Once described a girl as "just more of a person than other people" - still thought I was straight
Once unflinchingly gave a public speaking speech in front of peers including my then guy-crush about the gramatical importance of "they" as a gender-neutral pronoun - still somehow thought I was a girl (and they were surprisingly cool about it)
READ THE SIGNS PAST ME, how blind can you be XD

I would like to take this opportunity to personally apologize to one Ron Weasley--why did I ever think you were the "cowardly" one for being afraid of rat-sized dog-sized elephant-sized spiders

Anyone got some female/nb/trans fantasy composers to share? Mostly listening to Joe Hisashi, Thomas Bergerson and Antti Martikainen right now, I love the dramatic orchestral stuff!

YES IT”S FINALLY HERE!!
Since this took about twice as long as I expected to finish, I had plenty of chances to reflect on its meaning and motivations. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that this song can fit any number of characters. Ultimately, it’s more of a general statement about the Dragon Age series than one specific person.
This was a really, really long road. There’s no way I would’ve kept trying if it hadn’t been for all your likes and reblogs and nice DM’s. You’ve motivated me to push harder, pay more attention, and broaden my learning horizons far beyond what I thought was possible given the givens.
In the past, sharing my thoughts has been almost as hard as putting anything into a vaguely coherent (and vaguely tolerable!) creative expression, but every little bit of positivity spurred me on.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for supporting my insane ideas and helping me to find my voice – in more than one way.

The Final Conversation, a Fanfiction by Dorian Pavus’s Original Writer David Gaider
David Gaider, the former Lead Writer for the Dragon Age series, shares today a new short story about our friendly Tevinter mage Dorian Pavus, titled The Final Conversation. The title stems from a Necromantic blood ritual called the commutatus ultima, where one may briefly talk with the dead before a final passing… which of course is banned in Tevinter but they’ll do it anyway.
While the story is not canon since David Gaider long departed from BioWare post-Dragon Age: Inquisition, its roots are planted within lore consisting of known Tevinter society and its magical practices. Regardless, it is still an emotionally striking tale that adds context and closure to Dorian’s long tumultuous history with his family’s legacy, his father Magister Halward Pavus, and the beginning steps of Dorian’s ascension to Magister.
The short story can be found on Medium.

Chapter 3 online next weekend (not tomorrow :( )
Chapter 2 posted!
Tumblr media
I always used to roll my eyes at tales of everyday people swept away to worlds of fantasy and wonder – if I were ever lucky enough to leave the monotony of modern life behind, I told myself, there’d be no coming back! But, mere moments into my time in Thedas, my dreams of adventure became a nightmare…
Van, a 20-something nonbinary journalist, awakes in Thedas without a clue how to communicate and full knowledge of the trials to come. Determined to build themself a new life in a harsh and unforgiving world, and fearful of discovery, Van is unable to stand by while the people who were once little more than pixels on a screen die. When Van’s “visions” come to light, however, they are faced with a dilemma like no other – do they unmask Fen'Harel, shielding Inquisitor Elana Lavellan, their creation and newfound friend, from heartbreak and preparing her to do battle with her entire pantheon, or is there another way to secure the future of Thedas?
Is it even their place to say?

Like fuck, right. Gotta keep it vague.
So I applied for a journalism job at a lesser known, but recognizeable publication where I need to relocate - heard back in one day! Killer news right, I'm hella qualified, but I was pawing through their website (you know, doing that research everyone tells you to do before an interview) and I come across their editorial section and the work of... a senior employee, let's say, with no less than three jabs at "preferred pronoun" usage in just his recent content alone.
I've had at least 10 jobs, and been out as GQ using my correct they/they pronouns at exactly one of them, I don't give a fuck if my coworkers know the "real me," but this guy could be my supervisor, how am I supposed to go to work everyday knowing for a fact (not just for a likelihood) that the people there don't respect me and that the publication thinks that hackneyed jokes about people who have never, ever hurt you falls under the umbrella of productive opinion...
I don't want to come out to these people, but if I don't give them the chance to not hire me because of who I am, how am I supposed to protect myself from ending up in a work environment that would chip away at my hard won mental wellbeing?
How am I supposed to demand that basic respect from my potential colleagues when I was already planning to push for the kind of content I actually want to write and a better work/life balance than they're currently offering, without seeming like some entitled millenial lunatic...
I mean the answer is I probably can't and that I probably don't really want to work there, but any advice would be appreciated...
(I'm lucky to still have a job I absolutely love, and may be able to hold on to, but what a situation to be in...)

They are and they mine.
Xe. Zer. They, whatever - it's all an intellectual shorthand to remind those I trust to treat me as I am - not a man and not a woman, but kind of sometimes.
I've heard it said that dismissing the man/woman binary is nihilistic, and I say, you're absolutely right!
Language is a social construct.
All knowledge is constructed.
Nothing means anything unless we make it so, and that's the closest to magic we're gonna get folks.
Please reblog if you think that “they/them/theirs” is a valid set of pronouns.

Chapter 2 out tomorrow, Saturday, July 7!
(Since I’m repurposing Sulahean for a new life in my original fiction, I’m hoping to scratch my Dragon Age itch with this…)
