I... ❞ 』 he really didn't know what to say to that. he didn't know what to do. the situation was a lot more complicated then it looked and Zack was stuck between a rock and a hard place. how did he explain his reasoning to Sephiroth when he didn't even truly understand it himself? what was he supposed to do? he knew why Sephiroth was reacting the way he was. ShinRa wasn't exactly the best people in the world. no, they had, in fact, done a lot of really messed up stuff. stuff that Zack most definitely didn't agree with or condone. but... he liked to believe that not every part of ShinRa was bad. he'd met some pretty decent people that he loved, cared about and cherished. he had made friends. did that forgive everything that had happened or had been done to them? no. but there had to be some bright side to this, however small.

『 ❝ just because you don't think so or didn't say so... doesn't mean that some people won't think so. and by some people, I mean me. ❞ 』 the words come out so easily and without a second thought. because it was true, at least to Zack. he truly thought that Kunsel was a good person. he was his friend and he'd been there for him through a lot of the messiness they'd gone through in the past. then again, Zack was the type of guy to try and see the best in people, even if there wasn't any. that was just the way he was.

honestly, Zack didn't know why he still came here. it wasn't like there was anyone waiting for him here anymore. maybe he just liked the peace and quiet. maybe it was the memories he had of this place. maybe it was just an instinct. maybe it was all of the above. regardless of his reasoning, he couldn't deny that coming back to the Church gave him a sense of calm. especially when he had those rough nights of his. the flashbacks and the pain that wasn't even there anymore. yet it still lingered over him like some shadow or ghoul he couldn't get away from. most of the time he just ignored it, focused on work and helping people instead of dealing with it. he knew it wasn't healthy for him. but that wouldn't stop him.

groaning softly as he attempted to adjust his position, shifting his aching shoulder slightly, his ears perked up at the sound of... a voice? was there someone else here? immediately, Zack's instincts kicked in, his training coming back to him like wildfire. 『 ❝ who's there?! ❞ 』 he wanted to reach for his weapon and get into his stance, but everything hurt. he grit his teeth, forcing himself to sit up just a bit straighter, to mask his pain, as he heard footsteps approach. mako blue eyes instantly landed on his unexpected guest, narrowing just slightly as he regarded them. did he... know them? why did they feel so familiar to him? did he say anything about it? 『 ❝ what are you doing here? ❞ 』 no, better to approach this cautiously, carefully.

Crouched in the shadows, Kunsel's attention was drawn by the sound of dragging footsteps on creaking floorboards and labored breathing. He lifted his head, peering from around an old weathered beam to see someone easing themselves onto one of the empty pews of the run-down church.

His eyes narrowed, then went wide. Heart caught in his throat, he sat riveted in place as he swore his eyes decieved him- was that...

"Zack?" He blurted it out before he could stop himself. If the stranger met him with a confused look, it wouldn't be the first time. Kunsel rose to his feet, creeping forward like he'd seen a ghost, his eyes wide with incredulity and shock. The closer he got, the more it looked like him - surely it was a hallucination, or mistaken identity.

Zack knew Noctis was concerned for him. he could tell just by looking at him, it didn't take a genius. his instincts were practically screaming at him about it. but, like before, he deigned to ignore them in favor of persevering. 『 ❝ no way, man. I totally have this. ❞ 』 Noctis had nothing to worry about. Zack was still in tiptop shape. he had plenty of gas in the tank. except he really didn't. it was a brief moment of disconnection, Zack's mind and body going in completely opposite directions. it was just a slight knock, not even that hard, but the pile of boxes he'd been moving around began to shift and slide and... no, no, no! 『 ❝ wait! no! hold on! ❞ 』 the raven attempted to stop the inevitable collapse, but he just wasn't fast enough. his energy reserves were lowering and his body decided that now would be a good time to betray him. he flinched when the crash finally came.

『 ❝ aw man... ❞ 』 groaning and covering his hands with his face, he finally collapsed to a sitting position on the ground before moving fingers through his hair. yeah, okay, fine, maybe he was a little tired. but just a little. ugh, his muscles hurt.

Crystal blues donned a hint of skepticism as the royals arms folded across his chest . There was a [ [ h i n t ] ] of a smile across his features , but that was only to hide the expression of CONCERN that was lingering deep beneath .
