Initiation - Eddie Munson x (GN) Henderson! Reader
Summary: Eddie Munson had been dating Dustin Henderson's sibling since long before Dustin joined Hellfire, it's not their fault he never saw the signs. (Alternate Summary: Dustin invites his sibling to join their boyfriends' D&D campaign.)
Today was the day. The first day of senior year. It also happened to be the day your brother started his freshman year. Normally, you would get a ride to school with Eddie, who had been your boyfriend for the last six months. However, today being Dustin's first day, it was probably better that you drop him off since he didn't want to take his bike. "Dustin!" You called up the stairs from the front door, "will you please hurry up, you're going to make us both late!" "I'm coming, I'm coming!" you heard his response as he bounded down the stairs, his footsteps were so loud you feared he actually might fall through them. Dustin pushed past you and headed towards the front door. "Dusty, you need some breakfast." Your mother called after him. "There's no time mom!" He bellowed back as you sighed dramatically and whispered under your breath "we are never getting to school, are we?" "Look, I've got an apple, okay!" Dustin grabbed one from the fruit bowl to satisfy your mom. "Have a lovely day, dears!" "We will mom!" you responded in chorus.
As you climbed into the car, Dustin began quizzing you about the school. What the cliques were, whether the older kids would be horrid to him and his friends. "Maybe that shirt's not such a great idea." You gestured to what your brother was wearing and raised an eyebrow. "Hey, this shirt is a classic." He defended. You both laughed and the rest of the drive was spent with you constantly reassuring him that he would have a great time.
When you got to the school, you pulled up in an empty spot and let Dustin out of the car. "Aren't you coming?" He asked when you didn't move. "Yeah, I'll be out in a minute, you go on ahead." You smiled. Thirty seconds after he had turned and left, the passenger side door opened again and there was a hefty sigh as the visitor threw themselves down into the seat. "Here we are again," Eddie turned to face you and you to face him, "high school, how thrilling." His voice was monotonous and sarcastic. "Senior year, again," you teased him with a smile as your hand reached up to cup his cheek, "not much longer now babe, this is going to be your year!" You assured him. He moved his head to kiss the palm of your hand, which was still touching his face. "I love that you have so much faith in me." He pulled you by the arm towards him and kissed your forehead, then your lips, then your lips again. Flashing you a wicked grin in between. "No." "Wha-" Eddie clutched at his heart, "What do you mean no, I haven't even said anything." "Your face says it all, I missed enough classes last year because of you, you are not being the reason I miss the first class of senior year when you're the reason I almost didn't make it to senior year!" Although you were entirely serious in what you were saying, your tone was playful. It wasn't Eddies fault you almost got held back a year, sure he was the reason you skipped all those classes, but it was definitely still your choice to do so. "Fine, then I guess I'm just going to have to find someone else who'll hang out with me." He feigned disappointment, knowing full well just how important it was to you to be able to go off to college next year. "Good luck." You smiled, pulling your hand away from his face and opening your car door to step out. Eddie followed suit, before stepping around the vehicle and stopping in front of you. "One more, for luck?" he pleaded. How could you say no to those beautiful, brown eyes? You stepped forward, allowing yourself to be wrapped up in his arms as you shared a kiss. "Love you." He whispered as you broke the kiss. "Love you too."
The next time you saw Eddie was in English class. The two of you didn't share many classes, so, despite the fact this was the subject he disliked the most, you made it bearable. He sat in the seat right next to you, you knew this was going to be a long, long semester. "Quit staring at me!" You whispered. "Can't," he responded, "if I blink or look away you might disappear." When he wanted to, Eddie could be incredibly sweet and romantic, but when the situation called for it, he could also be exactly what you would expect from the school 'freak'. Despite the number of times you had told him it was just a stupid, awful nickname and reassured him he isn't actually a freak, part of him couldn't get over the fact that they might be right and once you figured that out, he would lose you for good. "Mr Munson," the teacher called, grabbing the attention of you both, "can we please open our textbooks?" Eddie quickly found he was the only person without an open book on his desk and he began rummaging around. Unable to find it, but too embarrassed to ask the teacher for a copy, he began to doodle in his notebook, giving the illusion he was taking notes. "Here," you whispered, "I've got a spare." Eddie looked at you puzzled, "Why on earth do you have a spare textbook?" "Honestly, I figured you wouldn't have one, so I got two." You smiled at him. He looked at you with a face that displayed eternal gratitude. "You're so weird," his frown turned to a smile, "and I'm so lucky." Eddie had never really had 'school supplies', and you meant what you said about this being the year he graduated. You were going to do everything you could to help, even if that meant forcing him to study and making sure he had all the textbooks he required. He knew that you weren't buying him school supplies because he or his uncle couldn't, but that it was because you genuinely cared for him.
When lunch finally rolled around, you looked everywhere for Eddie, but, he was nowhere to be found. You sat at your usual table, neither Eddie nor his D&D friends were anywhere to be found, so for now, you sat alone. That was until you saw your brother charging through the cafeteria. "Odd," you thought to yourself. "I wonder where he's running to?" You were no stranger to the antics of your brother, his friends, and the Upside Down. So out of instinct, you followed him. He ran into an empty classroom, which you too were going to enter until you looked through the frosted pane of glass. Dustin had run into a Hellfire meeting, headed up, of course, by Eddie.
Leaving them to it, you smiled and walked back to the cafeteria, grateful that your brother and boyfriend were getting along as well as you had known they would. Even if Dustin didn't know about your relationship.
Your first class after lunch felt like it had lasted forever. When the bell finally rang, you grabbed your belongings and ran straight for the door, not hearing what the teacher had said about homework at all. When you got to your locker, Eddie was already there waiting for you. "What took you so long?" he dramatically looked at his watch. "Shut up and tell me why you were talking to my brother." You quizzed him with a smile. "Little Henderson wants to join Hellfire," he shrugged, "what can I say, word gets around fast that I'm the best Dungeon Master in this town." A fact you were not going to dispute. Although you had never actually witnessed a Hellfire meeting, you had flicked through Eddie's notes when he was preparing a campaign (on more than one occasion). "And you're going to....?" you waited for him to respond. "I'm going to....?" he mocked your tone and you cocked your head to one side. "Obviously I'm going to let him and his friends join." "Okay, it sounds like there's a but." "But," he continued, confirming your suspicions, "I can't just let them join, that would be crazy, Gareth and Jeff would kill me. They have to pass the initiation first." "God, you're sadistic, I love you." You breathed, shaking your head ever so slightly. "That's what they tell me, and, I love you too." He placed a quick, chaste kiss on your forehead before walking off to his next class. One that he no doubt was not going to pay attention to. You watched Eddie walk away and began to wonder what kind of madness he would come up with for your brother and his friends.
***
"PLEASE!" Dustin begged. "Yeah, please, please, please!" Added Mike. "You have to!" Lucas chimed in. "Oh, I have to, do I?" You raised your eyebrow at the boy. "Oh, erm, I mean," Lucas stumbled over his words, "You're our only hope." He elaborated. "Ah!" You looked between the three boys, "So I'm your Obi-Wan." Dustin began to smile, he knew this meant you were in, the other two, however, just stood there nodding frantically. "Okay, I'll join," the three boys began to cheer. "BUT," you raised your hand, "there is one condition." You heard a chorus of "name it" "anything" and a dramatic "here we go" which came with an eye-roll, from Lucas, Mike and Dustin, in that order. "You must not, and I repeat, must not, tell Eddie it was me who taught the three of you to play in the first place." The three boys agreed very quickly to your condition. "Good," you nodded, sattisfied. "Now go get in the car so we can get this show on the road!
As you drove back towards the school, you couldn't help but think about the look on Eddie's face when he discovered that you had been keeping this secret from him for as long as you had known him. "So why don't you want Eddie to know?" Mike asked you. "Erm," you racked your brain trying to come up with something believable that on the one hand didn't expose your relationship, and on the other hand didn't make it seem like the two of you had never even so much as spoken to one another. It's not like you were trying to hide your relationship, in fact, chances are pretty much the whole school knew by now. It's just your family who didn't, and you weren't even hiding it! Eddie would pick you up for school and drop you at home regularly. "I mean we share a few classes, but it's not like we ever talk about D&D, you know." You shrugged, hoping you had managed to quell their curiosity. Which it had done, for now.
"I can't wait, this is going to be so much fun!" Lucas cheered as the three boys exited the car ahead of you. "I've heard his campaigns are EPIC!" Dustin squealed. "I've heard they're ruthless!" Mike's voice matched the excitement in his eyes. "You guys go ahead, I'll be right behind you." You called as you locked your car. The boys ran off and made their way to the classroom reserved for Hellfire; you on the other hand, took a deep breath and prepared yourself for what was going to happen next.
"So," you heard as you neared the classroom, "who did you bring?" Eddie had asked the three excited boys. "That would be me." You answered, stepping into the room before any of them could say anything. "Really?" Eddie asked, confused and surprised. "You.... don't play?" You weren't sure if that was a question or a statement. Eddie began walking towards you. He was unable to hear the three boys stifling their giggles. Dustin, Mike and Lucas took their seats on your right-hand side. You carried on walking towards Eddie, paying no attention to the grin on his face and meeting him halfway across the room. "Who do you think taught these dweebs to play?" Motioning towards them with your head. “My god, you’re so damn hot." Eddie breathed.

I sincerely apologise to anyone who has sent a request that I havent responded to. Honestly I can't apologise enough, it breaks me to let everyone down but i just can't fulfil these requests. My heart just isn't in it. So on that note, I'm starting again, but this time I'm putting less pressure on myself.
Something Nice Tommy x Reader x Alfie - Peaky Blinders fic part 3 is coming soon! After that, I'm unfortunately clearing all of my requests (I may keep the odd one or two that I feel particularly drawn to). Then, my requests will re-open for a period of time and I will start again.
The past few years have not been great for me (as they haven't for most people), like I said, my heart just hasn't been in it. I will probably end up being a bit more selective about the fics I write / who I write for, even if this means posting a list of who / what fandoms I will write for and hoping people are okay with this.
Once again, I'm so sorry for not being able to fulfill all the requests in my inbox, but I hope you continue to enjoy the content I do post.
Lots of love,

Something Nice - Thomas Shelby x Reader (eventual Reader x Alfie Solomons) (Modern! AU) - Part 2
Part 1
A/N: Welcome to part 2, where we are finally introducing Alfie!
Sidenote: I always try to keep the reader gender-neutral to the best of my ability - if at any point it stops being GN, please let me know and I will try to fix this.
Summary: Reader has been lifelong friends with Tommy Shelby and has always had feelings for him. However, when the reader meets Alfie, Tommy starts to show his true feelings and a decision has to be made.
The morning rolled around, but you had barely slept a wink. As Tommy had requested, you dropped him a text to let him know you were home and he didn't need to worry about you. His response, however, was what kept you awake. Well, that and everything Polly had said earlier. He responded to your message simply with a heart emoji. Tommy was not one for using emojis. This played on your mind heavily throughout the night. Thinking back to how... off... he had been all day, you could only hope he would be more like his usual self during your trip.
Before you knew it, it was daybreak and like the human clock he was, you heard the front door open without any warning at exactly eight AM. "You better be ready!" Tommy bellowed. "Great," you thought, "he's still in a mood." You rolled your eyes and called back "Yeah, I'll be down in just a second!" You could practically hear him roll his eyes. His way of gloating, he knew you wouldn't be ready.
You bounced down the stairs with your overnight bag slung over your shoulder, and over to where he was standing. You saw in an instant how his face went from stony and irritated to pure elation. His eyes lit up and he had a smile plastered on his face.
"Come on then, stop just standing there!" You teased. "Let's go!" You grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the door, laughing as you did so.
"What's got you so cheery this morning?" He asked.
"I just have a really good feeling about this trip, that's all."
"Me too." He whispered, barely audible, but you just about made out his comment.
"Wait, where's the car?" You asked, looking around as you turned around after locking your front door and wiggling the handle, just to be on the safe side.
"Right there." Tommy pointed to a taxi, which was parked just past your house.
"Since when did Tommy Shelby take a taxi?" You questioned.
"Felt like taking the train for this trip." He shrugged nonchalantly, opening the taxi door for you, before heading around to the other side and getting in himself.
The taxi ride was quiet, your brain was running at a thousand miles an hour, trying to work out if you should say something about his text last night or not. Every now and then, you glanced over to Tommy, normally you could tell what he was thinking by looking at his face, however, on this occasion he appeared to be doing everything in his power to conceal his face from you.
The taxi pulled up to the train station and you exited, waiting on the kerb for Tommy to walk around to you so you could head inside the station together. As he approached, he shot you a winning smile and offered you his arm. You had your bag across your body and he was wheeling a cute little suitcase that you always ridiculed him for. It did nothing for his "tough guy" persona.
"So..." you started, ask you took his arm and began walking towards the concession stands, "what exactly is this business you've got with Alf..."
"Business deals are not to be discussed where anyone can hear, you know that." He cut you off and threw you a glance.
"Yeah, I know but I just thought you might have at least told me why we are going... and why you need me for that matter."
"I need you," he stopped walking suddenly and unexpectedly, causing you to jolt backwards, turning so you were face to face as you did. You were so close to him that you could feel his breath on your face, "because you're my good luck charm and I really need this to work."
You smiled at his answer. When he wanted to, Tommy could be incredibly smooth-talking.
***
After eating, the two of you headed to the platform, where your train was already waiting for you. Naturally, Tommy had bought the two of you first-class tickets. You were walking in front of him down the train, trying to find your seats.
"Oh, here we are," you gestured to the table that would seat four. "Looks like this is us." You turned and smiled at Tommy.
"Indeed it is." He responded, reaching up to put his case in the overhead storage and holding his hand out to place yours up there too. You handed it over to him. "Not even going to try and do it yourself?" he laughed.
"You'll only laugh if I can't reach properly!" you responded matching his tone and giving him a playful shove.
Tommy took the window seat on one side, while you took the one opposite.
"So," you started as the platform staff began to conduct the final checks before departure, "how come we're taking the train?"
"I told you, I just felt like it."
"Come on Tommy, there's got to be another reason?"
"No other reason." He insisted.
"Okay, if you say so... not that I believe you!" You couldn't help but smile, and neither could Tommy. The two of you had always teased each other mercilessly, it was second nature by this point.
The train ride was going to take about an hour and a half, plenty of time for you to finally finish the book you were reading. Or so you thought. Around twenty minutes into the journey, Tommy got up from his seat. You didn't think anything of it... until he sat in the empty seat next to you.
"What are you doing?" you laughed, as he bounced down, "someone might want to sit there."
"I bloody hope not!" He replied, "I paid for all four seats!"
"Tommy, you've lost the plot, why in God's name would you do that?"
"'Cause I can," he responded with a shrug, "now, will you please tell me why whatever you're reading is more interesting than talking to me?"
"I'll talk to you," you closed the book, "when you tell me what's got you so worked up about this trip."
"I'm not worked up."
"He says, in the most defensive tone I've ever heard!" you laughed.
"Shut up, I'm not defensive." He laughed.
You looked at him and couldn't help but think "I haven't seen you laugh this much in a very long time," but you couldn't bring yourself to say it to him out loud, so you just nudged his shoulder with yours and said, "yeah, and I'm the Queen of Sheba!"
***
"God this train seems to be taking forever!" Tommy whined, "I should have driven."
"I don't know Tommy, I'm glad we took the train." You smiled at him, "although, having someone burst through my door at eight o'clock in the morning on a day where I could have been having a lie-in, is enough to make a girl tired!" You put your head on his shoulder and felt his body go tense. You paused for a second, trying to work out if you should sit back up, but after a moment, his body relaxed again and he touched his forehead to the top of your head, just briefly. "I'm just going to have a nap, wake me up when we get there."
Tommy chuckled and you felt the vibrations run through his body. "You've got it." He whispered.
He left you to sleep, even though his arm was becoming numb he enjoyed having your head on him like that. It brought him comfort, not that he would ever tell you.
"Time to wake up," Tommy whispered, placing his hand on your shoulder and lightly shaking you.
"Huh, are we there already?" you responded groggily.
"Not quite, we're about ten minutes out, but I thought you might want to give yourself a chance to wake up a bit." He smiled, and you couldn't help but smile back as you removed your head from his shoulder and sat up.
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea." You grumbled as you caught your reflection in the train window.
"Have a good sleep did you?" Tommy asked as you fixed your hair.
"Nothing special."
"Are you sure, it sounded special to me!"
"What?" Your jaw hit the floor, "Tommy, what are you talking about?"
"I'm only pulling your leg!" He chuckled. "Not like you were saying my name in your sleep or anything."
"Tommy, that's not funny, was I seriously talking in my sleep?" you asked, more embarrassed than worried about anything you may or may not have said.
"No, no you weren't," he saw you were glaring at him, "I promise!"
"Good." you sighed.
***
The two of you exited the train station and immediately caught a taxi. Tommy instructed the driver to take you straight to the hotel. The drive over to the hotel wasn't long at all, the two of you spent it in comfortable silence, neither of you wanted the driver to pick up on anything you were saying.
You arrived at the hotel and went up to the desk to check in.
"I'm sorry Mr Shelby, there appears to have been a mix up with the rooms." The young girl said.
"What kind of mix up?" There was fury in his voice, but he didn't let it show. Not yet, anyway.
"It appears we've overbooked, I can't accommodate two double rooms, unfortunately."
Tommy let out a sigh, ready to cause chaos right there in the hotel lobby.
"However," the girl added, "I can upgrade you to a nicer twin suite, it would be like having two double rooms as there are two separate bedrooms within the suite." Her voice was hopeful. Hopeful that he wasn't about to cause a horrific scene and also hopeful that he would appreciate her solution.
Tommy looked to you. You shrugged, signalling that it was fine with you, which it was. Your main priority was having somewhere to sleep.
"Fine, that'll have to do."
"Fantastic," the girl beamed as she typed away. "That's you checked in, here are your room keys," she handed you one each, "I hope you have a lovely stay, and if you need anything please do not hesitate to call down."
The hotel lift was rather small, there was barely enough room for two people, let alone two people and luggage! Tommy pressed the button for your floor. As the lift set off, it jolted a little, tossing the two of you into each other. You looked at one another and laughed about the lack of space.
"Maybe we should take the stairs back down." He suggested.
"I don't know," you replied, "it's pretty cold out, at least we would be warm." You laughed, and Tommy joined you in laughter.
Finally, the lift stopped and the two of you made your way to the room. Opening the door, you were shocked at how much space there was.
"Bloody hell," you commented, "could have taken some of the space out of this room and put it in that lift!"
Tommy chuckled and looked around a little before tucking his suitcase in the corner. "Come on, drop your bag, we need to get going."
"What, dressed like this?" You questioned, gesturing to the clothes you had travelled in.
"Fine, ten minutes, then we really need to get going." He agreed.
You smiled and headed into the bathroom to freshen up.
"Come on then, let's go!"" You announced, bounding out of the bathroom only to find Tommy wasn't there waiting for you. "Tommy?" You began walking around the room looking for him. Eventually finding him in one of the bedrooms, asleep. "Tommy, time to go, come on." You coaxed him up.
"Yeah, I'm coming." He grumbled.
"Having a nice dream there were you?" You asked as he approached you.
"I don't dream."
"Not what it sounded like to me." You turned and walked away quickly enough that Tommy didn't have time to respond.
"Oi," he called after you, "there's no way I was talking in my sleep!"
You hummed and shrugged your shoulders in response. Of course, you hadn't heard Tommy talking in his sleep, but he didn't need to know that.
The walk to... wherever it is you were going, as Tommy wouldn't even tell you that, was brisk. It wasn't cold out, but there was a sharp wind.
"So, when..."
Tommy cut you off again. "Don't ask 'when am I going to tell you what's so important about this meeting' or I swear I'll leave you out here in the cold."
"Fine," you whispered, "I won't ask."
"Good, now will you please hurry up or we're going to be late."
Tommy offered his arm to you, so you took it. Safe in the knowledge that if you were walking right beside him, he couldn't tell you to hurry up. Every now and then, you would glance over at him, tru=ying to work out why he was acting so strange.
***
Tommy walked into the high rise office building, with you close behind and you were greeted with a smile by a young man. The name tag pinned to his jacket said 'Ollie'.
"Mr Shelby," Ollie greeted him with a handshake, "I'm pleased you were able to find the place, Mr Solomons is waiting for you upstairs, and," he paused, turning to you, "who might you be?"
"Oh, sorry," you responded, "I'm Y/N." You extended your hand with a smile. Ollie shook it and smiled back.
"A pleasure to have you here."
Ollie escorted the two of you to the lift, you and Tommy shared a look, both knowing what the other was thinking. "I hope this one has more room than the one at the hotel." But neither of you needed to say it. Ollie swiped his security card and hit the button for the very top floor. It was only a short trip, before you knew it Ollie was escorting you from the lift towards Mr Solomons' office.
"You wait out 'ere." Tommy instructed you, as Ollie knocked on the door and introduced the two men.
"Tommy!" You heard a booming voice, "Glad you made it, drink?"
Ollie then reappeared, shutting the door behind him.
"Feel free to take a seat," he advised, you got the feeling you would be here a while, "If you need anything, you'll find a desk just around the corner, Mr Solomons' assistant Brit will be able to help you out." He smiled and headed back downstairs.
Half an hour had passed and you were still sitting waiting for Tommy. That's when it began.
"What the FUCK are you talking about?" You heard being shouted from inside the room.
"Exactly what it FUCKING SOUNDS LIKE!" Came the unmistakable sound of Tommy's frustration.
Your ears pricked up and the conversation, so you moved your chair slightly, just enough so you could hear what was being said with a bit more clarity through the closed door.
"And how would you know that, how would you know anything about my fucking business?"
"Because," you heard Tommy respond, "they told me, they told me with a gun to my 'ead, that I 'ad a choice."
"Oh yeah, and what choice was that?"
"That I could join 'em, or meet the same fate that awaited Alfie Solomons."
"Someone's threatening your life?!" You burst through the office door, with no regard for introductions. Sheer horror plastered on your face at the thought of someone holding a gun to Tommy's head.
"I told you to wait outside." Tommy acknowledged you but did not answer you.
"I was waiting outside. It's not my fault you're shouting loud enough the whole of London can hear you."
"For fucks sake," Tommy started.
"Listen, can you two have your little domestic later on?" Alfie interrupted. "For now, what I want to know Tommy, is why you've got such a beautiful creature waiting outside while I'm sitting in here looking at your mug?"
Alfie was staring at you, he clocked you the second you walked through the door and hadn't taken his eyes off you since.
"Sorry," you sighed, "I'm just gonna..." you gestured to the door and began to turn around.
"Hang on a minute," Alfie stopped you, "you're in here now, you might as well stay."
Tommy let out a frustrated groan. The last thing he had wanted was for you to become involved.
"Come on, I don't bite," the man winked, "I'm Alfie, and you are?"
"Y/N" you responded. As you walked towards the empty seat, you took in the man in front of you. His sharp, well-styled haircut, the stubble on his face and the incredibly flattering navy suit he was wearing. You could see the blazer on the back of his chair, his white shirt done up almost all the way to the top and the waistcoat which almost made it look like his arms were about to pop out of his sleeves.
You took a seat next to Tommy, who only gave you a side-eyed glance. You could feel your face going red.
"Can I get you a drink or anything?" Alfie asked you.
"No, I'm alright thank you." You replied.
"You change your mind, you let me know hmm?"
You nodded in response.
"Now, Tommy as you were saying? Why the bloody hell should I join forces with you?"
"Because if you don't," Tommy sighed, looked to you and then looked back at Alfie, "If you don't Changretta will kill us both."
"Well, fuck."

Something Nice - Thomas Shelby x Reader (eventual Reader x Alfie Solomons) (Modern! AU) - Part 1
A/N: In honour of the return of Peaky Blinders, here's a thing that was running around my head! I am going to do this in parts, purely because I'm not 100% sure how this is going to end yet!
Sidenote: I always try to keep the reader gender-neutral to the best of my ability
Summary: Reader has been lifelong friends with Tommy Shelby and has always had feelings for him. However, when the reader meets Alfie, Tommy starts to show his true feelings and a decision has to be made.
Part 2
Growing up you and Tommy had always been close. This was mainly due to circumstance as his Aunt Polly was a friend of your parents so you spent a lot of time around the Shelby boys. Especially Tommy. You don't know what drew you to him more than the others, not at such a young age. When you got older, however, it became much more obvious. You had been head over heels in love with him for as long as you could remember.
At age 15, you had confessed to Polly how you truly felt about Tommy. She had encouraged you to tell him, but out of fear of ruining your friendship you had decided to keep it to yourself. When Tommy started dating, your heart sank. Of course, you were happy that he was happy, but selfishly you had wished it was you on his arm. Having tried dating yourself you quickly realised that no one would ever compare to Tommy, so not only was a second date extremely rare, but a first date was more often than not, not even on the cards. Some took this as a sign you were "playing hard to get" and insisted on chasing after you. Sure, the attention was nice, but none of them would ever hold your heart in their hands the way Tommy did.
Now that you were both older, Tommy started running the family business. Naturally, he asked you to be his right hand. As the eldest brother, Arthur had taken offence to this, but deep down, he knew you were the right choice. Of course, you accepted the offer. It was the only way you were going to be able to keep an eye on him.
"I've got some business down in London this week," Tommy stated, barely looking up from the papers on his desk.
"Okay," you replied from the sofa, "what do you need me to do while you're away?" You asked, it wasn't unusual for Tommy to go away on business and leave you in charge.
"Nothin'," he responded, still not looking up, "I want you to come with me."
You choked on your drink, you could count on one hand how many times Tommy had asked you to go with him to a business meeting. He much preferred knowing that things were left in your capable hands while he was away. Your choking, however, finally prompted him to look up from his desk.
"Okay, it's not that shocking of a request." He laughed, watching as you thumped yourself in the chest to stop the choking. Tommy had always this way of both making you feel at ease, you knew you could tell him anything and he wouldn't judge you, but he also knew how to press all the right buttons to fluster you, and boy did he know it. This was definitely one of those instances.
"Tommy, are you sure?" you asked, placing your mug on the table to the side of the sofa and making your way over to the chairs in front of his desk. You threw yourself down on the comfortable chair as Tommy followed you with his eyes.
"Of course I'm sure, wouldn't ask if I wasn't now would I!" His tone was playful with a slight hint of laughter, but the smile on his face made you think he was up to something.
"Okay, if you're sure then I'm in!" you exclaimed in delight. "When do we leave?"
"Ten o'clock tomorrow morning, I'll pick you up at eight and we can get breakfast first."
You knew from his tone of voice this wasn't a question, it was a fact. You would be having breakfast with Tommy tomorrow, which wasn't necessarily out of the ordinary, but he did usually at least provide you with the opportunity to decline. Knowing this, you didn't respond with words. You let out a slight hum and nodded as you stood up from the chair and Tommy began to write again.
"Who's going to look after everything here if we are both away?" you asked.
"Polly will." He responded, once again not looking up from his desk.
Satisfied with the answer, you turned to leave his office and made your way towards the ominous, dark oak door.
"Oh!" Tommy called after you, as your hand reached the door handle, "Make sure you pack something nice."
"See you later Tommy!" You called back, not turning around or taking on his comments. "What the hell does 'pack something nice' mean?" you thought to yourself. What on earth was he planning?
***
That night, you went home and started to pack. Tommy's words about taking something nice to wear still ringing in your ears. You were so deep in thought, that you didn't hear your phone ping. Once was fair enough, but then it began to ping repeatedly, snapping you out of the trance you were in. Picking it up, you saw twelve texts from Tommy, five from Arthur, and a missed call from Polly. "Shit!" you exclaimed to the empty room. The latest text, which was from Tommy simply read "I'm coming over". Naturally, he wasn't one for asking permission first. You read the rest of the messages and realised you were late for meeting the Shelby's at The Garrison.
Quickly scanning the room, knowing that not only would Tommy be there any moment, but also that he wouldn't knock on the door, he would just let himself in. You grabbed the jumper closest to you and threw it on in place of the shirt you had been wearing all day, and changed into a clean pair of jeans. Just in time too, as at that very moment, the door behind you burst open.
"I wish you'd answer your bloody phone," Tommy exasperated, "thought you were dead!"
You laughed at his dramatic comment. "Sorry Tommy, I was packing and lost all track of time, I.."
He cut you off, "It's fine, let's just get going 'ey." He reached out to you with his hand, which was extremely unusual. Another thing to add to today's list of his strange behaviours. As you got closer to him, he took your hand in his outstretched one and the two of you walked down to the street where Tommy had parked.
He opened the passenger side door with his free hand and guided you towards the car. He was definitely acting strange.
"Why thank you, kind sir," you joked as you let go of his hand to get into the car.
He laughed in response, "Come on, just get in, we're already late."
The drive to The Garrison was a short one, made even shorter by the way Tommy drove. There was never any uncomfortable silence between you and Tommy, but at that moment in time, something did feel off.
"Is everything okay?" you asked, mostly out of genuine concern but partially just for something to say that would put him at ease.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened. "Everything's fine."
"Okay, but are you sure?" you prodded, "You've got this look on your face that..."
"I said it's fine." He snapped, cutting you off, and not for the first time that night. His sudden change in personality was definitely something you would be keeping an eye on, not just tonight but also while the two of you were away.
You didn't respond, you just sank into the seat and waited for the car ride to be over.
***
"Finally!" You heard Arthur's booming voice from across the bar.
You began making your way over to where Arthur, Polly and Michael were sitting. "Thought you was goin' to be dead or something" he laughed. "Seriously though, you alright? Not like you to not answer your phone." His tone was much more hushed now and filled with genuine concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine," you smiled, "just got a bit carried away with the packing that's all."
"Oi oi!" Arthur whooped, "finally going on that trip 'ey Tommy!" Arthur looked in his brother's direction and sent him a not-so-subtle wink.
"Leave it out, Arthur." Tommy, who was not too far behind you, was clearly in a mood and Arthur had clearly already started drinking.
You took off your jacket and placed it on the empty seat next to Polly, who stood up to hug you as soon as your jacket hit the chair.
"It's good to see you, love," she started, "ignore Arthur, he's already had too many." Her voice raised slightly as she neared the end of her sentence, grabbing Arthur's attention and hinting to him that he needs to slow down.
"Who even pays attention to him anyway?" John smiled from across the table. He was sitting directly opposite the seat you had chosen. After Tommy, John was the brother you were next closest with. The two of you were the same age, so you had been in the same school year. He had even escorted you to the prom you didn't really want to go to. Of course, he wasn't the Shelby you desperately wanted to ask you, but with Tommy being a few years older, there was no way he would want to go to a stupid school dance. John, however, was more than happy to go with you, and you were happy to be going with someone you loved, someone who you knew wouldn't leave your side the whole night.
"Bloody no one, and for good reason," came Tommy's voice from behind you. You turned around and saw he had two drinks, one in each hand. He extended one to you and kept the other for himself.
"Thank you," you smiled as you accepted the drink, "Arthur is harmless," you addressed the group, sitting down with Tommy taking the empty seat to your left. "Sure he's had a bit to drink, but..." you shrugged, losing your train of thought.
"She's right," Polly interjected, "Arthur says a lot of things but doesn't mean anything by them." Polly looked to you, knowing how Arthur's comment had made you feel.
"Where's Michael?" Tommy asked.
"God knows," John responded, "can't we just start without him?"
"No, we need everyone here."
The four of you sat laughing and enjoying yourselves while you waited for Michael to arrive.
"I'm here," came a voice behind you, "I'm here." Michael had arrived but sounded out of breath.
"Bloody hell, did you run here?" You asked, standing to hug him.
"Something like that." He let go of you to take his coat off and place it on the empty chair between Arthur and John. "I'm just gonna get a drink, then we can start. Anyone else?" He immediately regretted asking as everyone shouted their drink orders to him.
"Right, now that we are all here," Tommy began as Michael took his seat, "as you know, we," he motioned to you, himself and back to you again, "will be going to London for a couple days."
"Why?" interrupted Arthur.
"Shut the fuck up and I'll tell you," Tommy responded, "I have a business deal to take care of," he paused, "with Alfie Solomons." He stopped talking and waited for the interruptions of his family to tell him this was a bad idea. You didn't know much about Alfie Solomons, but what you did know, was that nothing good came from doing business with him.
The table stayed silent until Tommy opened his mouth to continue.
"Are you fucking joking?" Polly questioned.
"No, Pol, I'm serious."
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
No, that's why I'm not going alone." Tommy motioned to you. Polly's anger was bubbling up to the surface as Tommy remained calm.
"Excuse me?" You interrupted, "You're only taking me because you're doing business with Alfie Solomons?"
"Yeah." Tommy shook his head slightly, in a way that suggested he didn't understand why this was even an issue.
"And you didn't think to tell me this sooner?"
"I'm telling you now, aren't I!" He began to raise his voice. There was definitely something going on with him.
"Tommy, calm down," John started, "no need to be a dick about it, you did just kind of dump this on us with no warning. I mean, do we not even get a say?"
You smiled at John, thankful he had said something to take Tommy's attention off you. The man could be so hot and cold sometimes that you often wondered why you were so enamoured by him. Standing up, you excused yourself to get another drink, leaving John and Tommy at each other's throats over this business.
***
"Are you alright?" you heard Polly's voice behind you. She had followed you to the bar, knowing how it made you feel when Tommy snapped like he had just then.
"Yeah," the bartender looked in your direction, you raised two fingers and before you had even brought your hand back down to the bar, there were two glasses of Whiskey in front of you. You pushed one of them towards Polly, picked the other up and threw it down your neck, motioning to the bartender for two more. "I just wish he'd told me, you know."
Polly mimicked your action and swallowed down her glass. The two of you stood at the bar for a few more moments.
"You know what Tommy is like," Polly said, "he doesn't always consider other people before he makes these decisions."
"What if I didn't want to go, though?" You asked, "What would he have done then, gone down on his own? Or do you think he knew that I would drop everything for him?" You ran your hand through your hair and let out a groan.
"I think he hoped you would," Polly responded after a moment. "He hoped you would because he would for you."
You looked at her in confusion.
"Oh please, as if you hadn't noticed!" She jested.
The confusion on your face grew.
"Oh my god, you don't know?"
"Know what, what are you on about Polly?" You instinctively raised an eyebrow.
"Did you really think you were the only one who came to me when you were teenagers? Admittedly you were the first but Tommy followed soon after." She glared at you, your jaw was about ready to hit the floor.
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
"If you think what I'm saying is that Tommy is in love with you, then yes, I am."
You picked up your drink and walked back to the table, Polly close behind you.
"You alright?" Tommy asked, looking at you as you sat down.
"Yeah, I'm..." you paused, trying to think of the words, "I'm fine, just tired I think."
"Want me to drive you home?" He asked, placing his hand on your arm.
You thought about it for a moment, normally you would accept, but given everything Polly had just said you needed to think. "No, it's alright, I'll walk." You smiled.
"Okay, well at least let me walk you out?"
"Yeah, okay" you answered, standing up and folding your jacket over your arm.
"See you when you get back from London." Polly smiled as she stood up to hug you goodbye.
As you walked around the other side to hug the rest of the family, you came to Michael next. "Stay safe, see you soon," he hugged you tightly.
"Yeah, see you when you get back," Arthur was the next to hug you.
Finally, you came to John, "If it doesn't feel right, call me, okay?" John whispered into your ear as he hugged you the tightest of all.
"Yeah," you whispered back, "I'm sure it'll all be fine though."
He pulled back from the hug, placed his hands on your shoulders and smiled at you.
"Come on then," Tommy hurried you, you took his arm as he walked you to the door. "Now are you sure you don't want a lift?" He stopped walking to light a cigarette once you had exited the building.
"Yeah, honestly it's fine."
"Okay, well let me know when you're home okay?"
You nodded, "See you in the morning, Tommy."
"See you tomorrow," he smiled, as he hugged you himself. Cigarette between his lips so he could hold you as close to him as possible.
He eventually let go after what felt like a ten-minute hug. You turned to walk away, glancing over your shoulder multiple times, knowing he was watching you walk away.

No Matter What Happens - James McAvoy x Reader
James McAvoy x Plus size! Reader - reader is insecure, James proposes on the red carpet at a movie premiere.
A/N: I’M ALIVE! This was requested by the gorgeous @thebeckyjolene about 100 years ago and i’m so very sorry it took so long! I hope it was worth the wait. I’m not 100% sure this comes across as a plus size reader, but i’ve tried to leave it vague enough that it both is and isn’t.. if that makes sense!
"I look awful" you sighed, staring into the full length mirror, running your hands down your dress and over your curves, trying to smooth it down and twisting from side to side, eyeing yourself from every angle.
"Don’t be silly," James smiled, walking into the room, fixing his cufflinks, "you look stunning!" He walked up behind you, placed his hands on your hips and softly kissed your cheek.
You shook your head in disbelief at his statement, not believing a word. Placing your hand on his cheek while his face was so close to yours, you whispered, "flattery will get you nowhere."
He chuckled in response. "I beg to differ." Kissing your cheek again, he squeezed your hips "come on darling, you look fantastic and we need to get going." You reluctantly agreed and after taking one final look in the mirror, you ran your hands down your sides, over every curve of your body and nodded to yourself in an attempt to convince your brain that you did look as good as James thought.
As the car pulled up to the red carpet, James placed his hand on your leg, which was restlessly bouncing against the back seat.
"Are you okay"? James asked as he gave your knee a gentle squeeze.
"Yeah, I'm just..." you paused, looking deep into his eyes and seeing the worry start to appear. "Nothing, it's nothing," you smiled at him reassuringly, "I'm fine".
"Are you sure"?
"Positive," you placed your hand on top of his and gave it a light squeeze, "let's get going."
“Darling if you’re not feeling up to it, we can turn this car around and go straight back home”.
“No, it’s okay, let’s go”. You forced a smile, still not fully confident in yourself but boosted by James’ love for you.
James got out of the car and then turned back, offering you his hand. Gratefully, you took it and slid out, whispering a small thank you. James nodded and pulled you close to him as he reached around you to close the car door. He placed a kiss on the corner of your mouth before putting both hands on your hips and stepping back slightly, looking into your eyes and scanning your face for any sign you were not okay. Unable to find any such sign, he took a step to the side and placed his right hand in your left.
As you walked down towards the photographers, there were already tens of thousands of screaming fans pointing cameras in your direction. Of course, they were screaming for James and not you, but somewhere in the back of your mind, you convinced yourself that they were hurling insults at you. In reality, they weren’t, James’ fans loved you.
When you approached the press pit, you felt James squeeze your hand. It was his way.of making sure you were okay without using words. You squeezed back in response, signalling you were fine.
Now, it was your turn in front of the press. You stood there, waiting alone, for a few moments while James had some individual photos taken, then he beckoned for you to join him. You walked over and he immediately wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you close and kissing your cheek.
“No matter what happens, I love you” he whispered. The comment made you smile and the flashing of cameras began. You and James shifted on your feet, holding poses with very minor differences for around thirty seconds. The, you felt James remove his arm from your waist. Inside, you began to panic. Was he leaving you? Is this what he meant when he said ‘no matter what happens’? You turned to face him and he wasn’t there, not where he was earlier anyway. There were screams of excitement and cheers that you dan’t heard earlier due to the panic you were feeling drowning them out. As they came into focus, you looked down and there was James. On one knee.
“Y/N, typically during proposals, people say ‘will you make me the happiest man on earth’, but i’m not going to say that, because you already make me the happiest man on earth.”
Your hand shot up to your mouth, realising what was happening as James fumbled in his jacket pocket and pulled out a box. Opening the box, James continued, “you are the bravest, smartest, most beautiful person I have ever met and it would be my honour if you would spend the rest of your life with me.”
You were speechless, there were tears rolling down your face and ruining your make-up but you didn’t care. You couldn’t believe James would do this in front of everyone. “Y/N,” he finalised, “will you marry me”?
“Yes,” you whispered, “yes, yes of course I will”. You said a bit louder this time, James took your hand, placed the ring on your finder and stood up. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he wrapped his around your waist. He pulled you in as close as humanly possible and looked deep into your eyes before kissing you. The crowd cheered like crazy and there were camera flashes everywhere. The kiss seemed to last forever, and for a moment you completely forgot about the premier.
