the (almost) complete Bungou Stray Dogs reading list
as a dostoyevsky fan i first discovered bsd by being very confused whenever i saw pretty anime boys in the crime and punishment tag, so now i’m using bsd to discover more classic literature, and you can too!
this is my personal list straight from my phone notes app, of the most significant works mentioned in the series. italized titles are those that i really couldn’t find an english translation of but they’re there for completeness (if you’ve found one please comment!)
i’ve also got links to the french text of all works that are originally in french, because i read french and as said this list is just adapted from my personal notes hahaha
special shoutout goes to @bsd-bibliophile and their website from where i got many of the links, especially the works of the japanese authors, as well as the bsd recommended reading list ❤️
links are pdfs unless otherwise specified

lemon by kajii motojirou
dogra magra by yumeno kyuusaku [website, incomplete translation]
madness of george III by alan bennett (madness of the jewel king) pretty sure this one’s still copyrighted, hence why they couldn’t use alan bennett’s name for ace, and why i can’t find any pdf copies

little women by louisa m. alcott
the grapes of wrath by john steinbeck [online/pdf/epub]

I lost my best friend 3 years ago- not lost as in dead but lost as in we only text each other on our birthdays now. Movies and books don't tell you that a friendship dying is like the sinking of a ship, you try to get higher and higher and hold onto the rails and unanswered texts, the captain tries to steer it to safety and salvage pieces of two broken hearts until you're left with memories of what once was. We were friends for a decade and knew each other's diaries by heart, I still remember her phone number and the way she took her coffee. Seeing her in streets is like breathing in a scent you forgot you knew but it immediately takes you back to a summer in '07.
Movies and books also don't tell you that friendships don't just end after one fight or incident, it's like the rusting of a bridge, the slow decay of flesh and bones and secrets. It took weeks, months- until one day I woke up and I realized I hadn't thought of her in a while. And I wrote a poem that day and I titled it 'The dying of a best friend' and I put all my love for her in a tiny box with my half of the matching pendant of a dolphin we had and stored them in a corner of my heart under the heading Grief. Where else can one hide unspent love?
It's been 3 years since I lost my best friend, lost as in I still carry our secrets in a tiny box but we only text each other on our birthdays.
-Ritika Jyala, excerpt from The world is a sphere of ice and our hands are made of fire
Edit: here's the visualizer for this piece

i love letterboxd because there are so many lists that cater to very specific, yet somehow universal moods. here are my favorites:
120 lesbian films to watch before saying all lesbian cinema is the same
the absolute beauty in everyday’s mundanity
add spice to your romance
autumnal harvest - movies that give you that warm feeling of fall and its surroundings
befriending the lyrical loneliness…
candy cinema
chaos, loneliness, madness, and desapair in the apathetic world of capitalism
crises of childhood
distinctive films that fill the void when you’re lonely or completely destroy you when you’re happy
film recs: female character studies
films that are kind
girlhood
horror as a vehicle
melancholy as a breathtaking aesthetic emotion
movies where female friendships are the scariest concept on earth
“nothing happens” yeah but the vibes
quiet little female character studies
quietly brilliant
snuggly wuggly flicks for anxiety driven chicks
soft horror
two lost souls find comfort
what we talk about when we talk about love

You don't understand, she gave him that pamphlet putting her heart and soul into it and it became a love letter to him. And he didn't want the crown prince to look at it even though to him it would just be an ordinary pamphlet but he didn't want anyone else to see. I'm dying!!!! Uk got me crying on a Sunday I've never felt so single in my life!!!
