One Sick Night || Jay Halstead x Daughter
Request: Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ , maybe you could write that Y/N (Jay's 10-year-old daughter) gets sick, and Jay has a sleepless night because she comes into bed with him and just tosses and turns because of her fever and starts throwing up. Because of this, the next day they just lie on the couch, watch a Disney movie, and cuddle. 🍀☀️
It’s Jay’s 10 years old daughter, but it’s not Y/N. It’s easy to make it Y/N while you read if you like it, though :)
It was past midnight, and even deep in his sleep, he could sense something was wrong. It wasn’t a nightmare, but a gut feeling that woke him up, his eyes snapped open, wide and alert.
He jumped in fright when he saw his daughter’s face staring at him, watching him silently from beside the bed. She wasn’t even blinking.
“Whoa…” he said, managing not to curse. “Hey, kiddo.”
His eyes were sandy, and he could barely function. He knew his daughter was talking, but couldn’t focus on her words. He sat up on his side of the bed, rubbed his face, and then heard the sweet voice of his little human clearly say: “I don’t feel good.”
He looked back at her. She seemed fine under the dim light, just tired.
“Hmm. You… had a nightmare?” he managed to ask, yawning.
“No.” She rubbed her eye with one hand, and as she started to cry, trying to explain herself again: “I feel bad. Sick.”
At this point, Jay was beginning to understand what was going on. He finally sat down so he was face to face with her.
“Oh, okay. I’m sorry, honey. I’m sorry.” He gently moved her hand from her face to wipe her tears and inspect her. She felt feverish.
Damn, the detective thought to himself. His senses were waking up too and he could smell vomit. Then he noticed a stain on her T-shirt. He turned his head to the side and saw it: a puddle of vomit right at the door to his room. That’s were the smell came from. How could he not woke up if she vomited right in front of him? He felt like a failure.
“Sorry,” the little girl said, crying harder.
“No, honey. It’s okay. You did nothing wrong,” he soothe her holding her tight between his arms. “Let me get you some water. Wait here on my bed.” And he kissed her forehead before standing up.
The young Halstead climbed into her father’s bed and sat there, hugging her legs, waiting for him. She had a stomachache, her head hurt and her body felt weird. She was scared as well.
When her dad came back, he had a glass of water in one hand and a thermometer in the other.
“Here,” he said, offering the water. When she finished drinking, he helped her place the thermometer under her arm. “Don’t move, alright? Let’s just wait until it beeps.”
She nodded, and he kissed her head before leaving the room again. When he returned, he brought cloths and a mop to clean up the puddle. His daughter watched everything while waiting for the beep. First, he kneeled down and used the cloth to clean up, then followed with the mop, and finally sprayed some air freshener.
Jay smiled at her while doing that last part. And although she couldn’t smile back, it warmed her heart.
“Ok, let me check,” he said, taking out the thermometer. “Holy shit.”
“What!?”
“This is bad.”
“What!?”
“You’re going to die.”
“Dad!?” She was frightened.
“I’m joking,” the not so funny dad hurried to say. “I’m joking, it’s just a joke.”
But he was worried for real. Her temperature was high. They had been in this situation before, though, so he knew how to manage it.
“Here,” he said, handing her a clean T-shirt from his closet. “Change your clothes so you can be comfy.” If the rest of the detectives heard him talk like this, he’d be so embarrassed.
The young girl started to change but got tangled in the T-shirt while trying to put it on. It was just too big for her, and it was hard to manage. She was already stressed, so this made her cry again.
“Dad!”
“Is it eating you up?” Jay got close to help her get her head out of the neck opening. He couldn’t help but giggle.
“It looks like a dress,” she said. “You’re like a giant, Dad!” She moved the long sleeves hanging from her arms.
They both laughed, and for a moment, the night didn’t feel quite so heavy.
Halstead girl fell asleep a few minutes after taking the medicine her dad had given her. Her head rested on her daddy’s shoulder as he caressed her hair, soothing her. But just as his eyes were closing, his daughter abruptly stood up and ran to the bathroom to vomit again.
“This is not good,” he muttered. He had somehow expected it, but hoped it wouldn’t happen.
The night went by like that. She threw up two more times, and then, suddenly, her stomach settled, and the fever began to subside. He made a mental note to call Will in the morning and probably take her to the hospital for a check-up, especially if the fever continued, which was his principal concern.
Quietly and slowly, he stood up, leaving his daughter alone in bed. He took the trash can he had placed nearby so she could vomit without having to get up and started to clean it. It took him a while to finish because he kept peeking into his room to check on his little girl.
When he was done, he sat on the living room couch and looked at his phone.
4:28 AM.
“Geez,” he sighed deeply.
He opened his conversation with Hank Voight and wrote down a text explaining he’d have to take the day off. He was sure Voight would read it in a couple of hours. He also planned to call the school first thing in the morning to inform them his daughter wouldn’t attend.
The man fell asleep right there on the couch for a few minutes. Then, half-asleep and worried, he walked back to his room, where he fell asleep again beside his sick daughter.
It was already late when he woke up. He checked his phone and confirmed Voight’s approval to stay home. He texted Will, who asked a lot of questions about his niece’s symptoms and told him what to give her. He assured him he’d stop by later to check on his niece in person.
Little Halstead woke up to the smell of French toast. She jumped out of bed, the T-shirt dragging in the floor as she walked into the kitchen.
“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” he greeted her with a big smile. He noticed she looked better.
“It’s late for school,” was the first thing out of her mouth.
“Yup. I called and said you’re sick.” He moved fast to feel if her skin was irritated, and it was. Her eyes were still watery and a little bit red. He took a mental note that the fever had yet to subside entirely. “You need to stay here and rest with me. Uncle Will is coming later to check on you.”
“Oh,” she said. “So, you’re not going to work?”
“No way,” he said, serving the French toast onto a plate. “How would I leave you here alone? Are you hungry?”
“Mmm, not so much.”
“Okay. We can save these for later. What about fruit?”
But the little girl made a disapproval face.
“Look, I know you don’t have an appetite, but you need to eat something so your stomach isn’t empty. You need more meds, and I can’t give them to you like this. I know you don’t want to spend another night like last night.”
She nodded while her dad placed a French toast on her favorite plate. “Can you try that for me?”
A few bites were enough for her, and Halstead gently handed her the medicine. She took it without complaint this time. He watched her closely, grateful to see even the smallest sign of improvement.
“Now,” he said, settling onto the couch beside her and grabbing the remote, “what movie are we watching?”
She blinked at him, a little surprised: “I can choose?”
“Well, of course.” He said simply, as if she wasn’t always the one picking the movies to watch together.
“You’ll actually watch it with me? Without falling asleep halfway through?”
He smiled, tugging in the blankets and getting comfortable in the sofa.
“Is it Moana?” he asked, already knowing. “How could I ever fall asleep watching Moana, girl?”
She laughed, weak but genuine. “How did you know?”
“I’m a detective.” He gave her a wink.
Little Halstead curled up next to her dad, resting her head on his chest. Within fifteen minutes, she was fast asleep, her breathing soft and steady against him.
Jay looked down at her.
“I knew that too,” he whispered with a faint smile, holding her just a little closer.
He also knew they had another long night ahead of them.

Because is a hectic Monday :)
Monday Chaos || Jay Halstead x Halstead Sister
And Halstead sister being a heroe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: On a hectic Monday morning, Becca becomes an unexpected heroe when she saves a dog from abuse, leading to the arrest of a drug dealer.
Please, let me know if you like it! :)
Monday mornings were a disaster at the Halstead house. Per usual, Becca’s alarm hadn’t done the work and Jay had to knock at her door last minute, step into her room, and actually took her bedsheet off to wake her up. Which led to a siblings fight and finished with an angry teenager slamming her door.
Half an hour later, Jay and Becca were acting as if nothing had ever happened. He made breakfast for both of them and told his little sister that there was no way she’d leave the house without eating, becase “Breakfast is the most importante meal of the day,” she mimic him.
“It’s really late,” Jay said with his mouth full.
“You are disgusting.” Becca replied.
Brother and sister rushed to brush their teeth and finished getting ready to go out and start their day.
“Look, I don’t care if you’re late to school,” Jay started his Monday morning speech while they were already in the car. “But I do care about my work and I like to be on time…”
Becca had learnt to ignore and nod with her head while he was speaking. She pretended to pay attention, but she was more interested in what was happening outside.
“There’s a lot of traffic,” the older brother complained. “I’m not calling to your school this time to justify anything, you hear me?”
“Sorry, sorry…” She kept repeating by inertia.
After a few minutes, Becca realized they hadn’t moved at all. She looked at her watch and finally understood how late it was, “Geez, it’s super late. I’m really screwed this time.” Jay rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Can’t you turn the siren on or something?”
“Seriously!?”
But in that exact moment, they started to move again. It took an eternity to advance a block, they were driving very slow because of the long line of cars.
“This is unusual,” he pointed out. “Maybe there’s something happening,” and as they tried to peek over the rest of the cars, Becca noticed part of the street was closed due to maintenance.
“Yup. They’re blocking the lane, there are some machines working in there.”
He tried not to curse in front of his sister.
“Alright,” he sighed. “I will try to take another road.”
Jay was really good at driving, maybe thanks to his experience chasing running cars. When they finally passed the blocked street they both celebrated.
“Now, hold on tight, kiddo. This is an emergency, but I won’t do this again, you gotta start waking up earlier…” He said as he was stepping on the gas.
Without taking her sight off the window, Becca kept arguing, defending herself: “You say it as if this was daily occurrence. It’s not my fault the street was closed, maybe you could have check that on the news or something…”
But as they started arguing again and the car gained more and more speed, Becca screamed “STOP! STOP! STOP!”
Instinctively, he slammed on the breaks.
“WHAT?” He was raising his voice, but more than angry, he was worried.
“There!” She pointed outside, her hand shaking. “There’s a man choking a dog!” She cried as she unlocked her seatbelt.
It was true. Jay saw it clearly, it was a man, probably in his late 30s pulling a dog with a string tied around its neck. The dog was shaking trying to scape, but the man was also threatening him.
Everything happened very fast. Jay took his radio to call dispatch. “Stay here,” he ordered. But his little sister didn’t listen because at the same time, she jumped out of the truck leaving the door open.
“Call 911!” She screamed as she approached the man.
“I am 911!” Jay said out loud running after Becca and making the call on his radio.
“Hey!” The teenager was trying to catch the man’s attention. “Hey you!” All this movement made other people realize what was going on and they started to honk their cars.
As soon as the man realized, he started to run, leaving the dog at his own luck. Jay showed his badge and announced himself “CDP, Don’t run!”
Immediately, Becca started to untie the dog’s neck.
“Stay here! PLEASE” Her brother ordered and she just nodded. She was now scared enough to move.
This time, she obeyed, frozen with fear. As she worked on the knot, trying to free the dog, he bit her arm hard. She gasped but kept going until she finally released it. That’s when she noticed his back legs were also injured. “Oh, my God,” she cried.
Jay didn’t have to chase the man far, Becca witnessed how he tackled him and cuffed him a few steps from her. While searching him, Jay found something in his pockets. Thankfully, a patrol unit arrived soon after to assist, and Becca finally felt safe enough to breathe. She was worried for him.
“Are you okay?” her voice was barely a whisper when Jay returned to her side.
“Yeah, perfectly.” He smiled.
“We gotta take him to the vet,” she rushed to say.
“No,” Jay said firmly with a very stern tone. “We’ve gotta take you to the ER.” He pointed to the blood soaking her sleeve. “Did he bite you anywhere else?” he asked, inspecting her.
“No, I don’t think so.” Her arm was now starting to burn.
In a hurry, Jay helped her to stand up, “Alright. Get in the car.”
“Ok, get into the car.” Jay was rushing her, extremely worried now.
“Jay, we can’t leave him.”
“I know.” He said grabbing the dog from the floor. “Please, Beccs, just get into the car and put on your seatbelt.” He begged.
She obeyed her brother. While trying to put on her seatbelt, the bite started to hurt even more.
“You alright?” He asked again while trying to accommodate the animal in the back seat. He noticed she had started to cry.
“Mmhmm,” she could only mutter.
“Ok.” Jay jumped into the drivers seat. “Hold on tight, this time is for real.”
He turned the siren on and started driving in a frantic way.
“Take my phone and call Will. Tell him we’re heading to The Med and that you were bitten by a stray dog.”
“But what about—”
“I’m taking the dog to the vet as soon as Will starts treating you. I’m sorry, but you go first. So PLEASE, take my phone, call Will and tell him we’ll be there in 5 minutes.”
The road to the hospital was fast and the eldest Halstead sibling was waiting for them at the entrance.
“What the hell happened?”
“A stray dig bite her arm.” Jay explained as they rushed inside of the building.
“Twice,” the girl completed the information.
“Let me take a look.” Will stopped to bent to inspect the wounds. “Holy sh—it’s deep. And I can see three bites not two. Let’s move. Now. We need to clean your wounds urgently.”
Once Becca was in a bed being treated by their brother, he remembered the dog in the truck.
“You ok?” He asked his sister, who just nodded.
“Ok, I’ll be back! Keep me updated, both of you!” And he sprinted out.
“Ok, I’ll be back! Keep me updated, both of you!” And he sprinted out.
“Where are you—?” Will asked, glancing back but Jay was already gone. “Where the hell is he going?” He asked his little Halstead.
“To take the dog to the vet.”
“Can someone please, for once, explain to me what the hell is going on?”
But Jay wasn’t only heading to the vet. After dropping the dog off at an emergency clinic and making sure Becca was stable and in good hands with Will, he went straight to the district. The man he had arrested hadn’t just been abusing an animal, he’d been carrying several packets of heroin, each marked with a small red lip on the corner. And that mark was familiar. Very familiar.
“Hey! You’re here!” Hailey greeted his partner. “I heard the radio, and figured the girl you mentioned was Becca. Is everything alright?”
“She’s at Met with Will. Got bitten helping the dog. She’ll be fine after a few shots.” He answered while eagerly searching for some papers.
Hailey blinked, confused: “What? The guy bit her?”
“No. The dog.” Jay said, setting an open folder on his desk for Upton to see. “You recognize this?” There were a bunch of pictures of sealed heroin bags marked with the same red lip on the corner.”
Hailey was confused. Now Ruzek was also interested and stood up to understand what was going on.
“I found the same bags on the guy Becca spotted. She jumped out of the car when she saw him choking the dog. He ran—I caught him, searched him, and found these exact bags in his pockets. The cops took them as evidence.”
“Damn,” Adam muttered. “That’s the same batch Narcotics tied to that South Side crew, right?”
“Exactly. He’s a small fish, but we may have just gotten our hands on a direct link to the supplier.”
Voight stepped out of his office just as Jay finished talking, dragged by the intrigue. “What’ve we got?” He asked with his raspy voice.
“The guy that I caught earlier and was brought in this morning, he had packets of heroin with this same red lip mark. Same as the dope tied to your case with Narcotics.”
Voight nodded slowly, surprised. “They’ve been trying to track the flow of that product for weeks. This could be the thread we’ve been waiting for.”
“I know, and listen to this. He had the same burner phone model as two other runners we busted last month.”
Adam was fast to add: “We check his texts, we might find a meet location.”
“Again, how is it that you caught this guy?” Upton turned to him and asked in disbelief.
“Becca. She ran out of the car yelling at him because he was mistreating a dog.”
The blonde detective made an approval gesture after she heard the story for the second time. “Credits on her, then. If she hadn’t seen the dog…”
“I like this girl.” Adam smirked.
“I don’t. She doesn’t have a survival instinct and she’s going to kill me someday.” Halstead added to which Voight laughed.
“Just like her brother.” Alvin winked an eye to Jay as he sipped his coffee.
“Well, we owe one to the little Halstead,” Hank interrupted the conversation. “I just received a call from Narcotics. They’ve been looking for this punk for a while. They’ve been interrogating him since he was brought in.”
“Amazing.” Adam clapped and laughed.
“How is she dealing with this? Apart from the physical harm?” Hailey asked with concern.
“She’s really affected by the violence she witnessed, that’s for sure.” But detective Halstead got interrupted after he received a text from his brother.
“Ok. It’s Will about Becca. I gotta go now.” He looked at his sergeant, asking for permission.
“By all means,” Voight agreed to let him part. “Please bring her over so we can thank her.”
“You all are acting as if I wasn’t the one who tackled him down,” he joked as he was going down the stairs.
The smell of the hospital invaded his nose, Jay didn’t like it and as much as he hated syringes, he was there for his sister when she had to be shot several times. But she didn’t mind much about the pain when Jay told her what just had happened.
“What? What? What?” Becca was incredulous. “So I caught a bad guy?”
“No. You happened to spot a guy doing a bad thing, and he ended up being a drug dealer.” He didn’t go deep into the case.
“So I caught a bad guy,” she smiled, reaffirming what she first said. The nurse who was helping cure her wound just laughed. Will rolled his eyes.
“Well, please stop doing that,” the ginger brother begged. “I have enough with your all-terrain brother.”
Jay and Becca laughed at that, but Will didn’t.
“They have a surprise for you at the bullpen. Platt bought a cake for you.”
“Wow!” Becca gasped. “So, I am really a hero.” She kept joking.
“Just don’t let it get into her head,” Will said, leaving the room.
“You’re all done, sweetie,” the nurse finally said.
“Thank you.” The young Halstead smiled.
Jay changed to a serious tone: “Does it hurt?”
“Yes, it does. But the vaccines hurt the most, honestly.”
“How are you feeling? You, be honest.”
After a few seconds of avoiding his sight, she responded, “Bad. I feel sad.” Jay nodded, understanding what she must be feeling. But the teenager changed the subject quickly and urgently asked about the dog.
“He’s. He’ll be alright.”
“Good. Can we keep it?”
“Of course not,” he said as he helped her get out of the bed she was sitting on.
“I deserve it. I bet Sergeant Voight will agree with me,” she said as they walked out of the room.
“Don’t even think about it. Where are we going to keep it?”
“Hey, you see? I just realized this wouldn’t have happened if I had woken up earlier.”
“Oh, geez.” Her brother face palmed.
“Everything always happens for a reason. Now you can’t lecture me anymore.”
At the 21st, seargent Voight argued in favor of Becca Halstead to keep the dog.

What do you think about Jay being a single father of Y/N, a pre-teen who's maybe only 13 years old and gets her period for the first time at school? The school calls Jay and explains what happened and why he has to pick Y/N up. At home, he calms Y/N down and explains everything to her.
(You could also write that Y/N is Jay’s sister 🤔😅)
This is a sweet request :) I hope you like it!
Jay knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later, but he never thought it would be this soon. He rubbed his forehead with his bare hand as he listened to the woman on the other side of the line.
“Oh," he said flatly. "Is she—alright? Is she alright?"
He didn’t know what else to ask. A flood of thoughts and feelings was overtaking him.
"Okay. Please tell her I’m on my way. Thank you."
When he hung up the call, he simply stared down at his desk, thinking.
"Everything O.K?" Adam asked, interrupting his thoughts.
"Yeah, yeah. It was Y/N’s school. She's... feeling unwell."
"Oh, is she sick? Mack had that terrible flu last week, right?" He turned to Kim, who nodded. "It’s in the air."
"Yeah, no. I think it’s a stomach bug."
"Are you picking her up?" Adam asked as his partner stood up.
"Yes," Jay said. Then he realized he was acting strange. "Yes, yes. They called me to pick her up. I’m taking her home..." he continued as he walked through the bullpen. "Can you tell Voight when he’s back?"
"We got you covered," Ruzek said with a smile as he entered the coffee room.
But when Jay reached the stairs, he turned back. "Uh, Kim? Can you... Actually, can I have a word with you?"
Burgess, confused, said, "Sure," not knowing what it was about.
As they kept walking, Jay seemed deep in thought, but his friend and colleague didn’t want to push him, though she was intrigued.
"She got her period," he finally admitted, lowering his voice as they headed toward the parking lot.
It wasn’t that he was embarrassed about something so natural, but he wanted to be discreet out of consideration for his daughter’s feelings, especially since she was often at the station. “It’s her first time, and I don’t know what to do. I know the basics; I just don’t know what to actually do."
"Oh, Jay," Burgess said softly as she smiled. She hadn’t expected that.
"I guess I’m asking for advice. I technically know what to do, but... I really don’t."
"Okay. Well, do you have hygienic products at home?"
"Not really. It didn’t occur to me."
"Alright. First, go pick her up and take her home. She must be feeling really uncomfortable if she wasn’t wearing anything when it happened. She’s probably in pain too."
"Oh, geez," he said, unaware.
"Nothing a pill can’t help with,” she reassured him. “Ibuprofen is a must, so make sure you have some at home."
He nodded.
"Pads… yes. She needs pads. There are pads with wings and without. I’d recommend the ones with wings for now, but it really depends on what she feels comfortable with. A heating pad would be good too. Let her be comfy, let her sleep as much as she wants, and get her snacks. Chocolate, yes! And you’ll be okay."
Jay was mentally taking notes.
"Hey," Kim added gently. "Everything’s going to be alright. You’re a great father. I understand your concern, though, so if you need help, give me a call, okay? I can talk to her if she needs a girl to talk to."
"Thanks, Kim."
"But really, I think she already has everything she needs with you."
On his way to the school, Jay made a quick stop to buy everything Burgess said. The pads isle had a lot of options and not knowing which ones to choose, he took one bag of each to let Y/N decide. A new problem popped in his mid: Did she know how to wear those? Maybe a Youtube video would work, maybe he'd have to call aunt Kim.
Y/N was wearing a sweater tied around her waist when Jay arrived to school. It was obvious she was trying to cover herself. He had a quick chat with the nurse before they headed home. The ride was quiet, but not uncomfortable.
“I’m okay, Dad," Y/N answered after his gentle questions. "Nobody noticed, so it’s okay."
“That’s good, right? That nobody noticed."
"My uniform is stained, though," she said, a little ashamed.
"That’s not a problem. I’ll wash it as soon as we get home," he replied calmly.
"And my belly hurts," her voice cracking slightly.
"Those are cramps," Jay said, now more worried. "I got you pills for the pain."
"Dad, I don’t have any... any… thing"
"I got them. I got everything you need. Don’t worry, kiddo. Your dad’s got your back."
Y/N glanced into the back of the truck and saw the two bags full of supplies.
As soon as they got home, Y/N went straight to her room to change. Jay turned on the water heater, remembering how her mom used to love warm showers during her period. He was trying to give her space, but also figure out what to do next, when he heard Y/N’s voice calling him.
He knocked before entering with a glass of water and a box of pills. “You called me?"
They both sat on the edge of the bed. Y/N, now in baggy pants, looked more comfortable.
"How’s the pain?" Jay asked, taking a pill from the box.
"It hurts, but I can tolerate it. My body feels weird, though."
He nodded and handed her the pill. “Here, this will help."
He’d already done his research and checked with his doctor brother about dosage and safety, but he’d keep that part to himself.
"How are you feeling?" he asked gently. "I mean, you, not just physically."
Y/N looked up at him and shrugged. "I don’t know. It feels like my life just ended, honestly."
Jay suppressed a smile.
"I have hockey practice today, and I don’t think I can manage. What if I can’t ever play again? It seems so unfair. None of my friends have to deal with this."
Jay’s heart sank a little. But he saw the moment as a chance to start the talk.
"Look, Y/N, what happened today is totally normal. Every woman goes through it… your mom did, and eventually, your friends will too. It just means your body is growing up and now—”
"And now I can get pregnant," Y/N interrupted, rolling her eyes.
"...That’s not exactly what I was going to say..."
"I know what a period is, Dad. I paid attention in biology class. Don’t worry."
They both laughed.
"Okay, but seriously, this is normal. Your life’s not over. I know it’s overwhelming. If I’m honest with you, feel overwhelmed as well. But you can still play hockey, do everything you love." He paused to check on his daughter’s reaction.
"Think of all the women you know: athletes, teachers, police officers, firefighters, doctors, hockey players… Hon, they all go through this and still kick ass. Your life’s not over."
"You’re probably right," Y/N said after a long pause. "Still... it’s a little embarrassing being the only one."
"This isn’t something to be embarrassed about. But if you don’t want anyone to know, they don’t have to. Who knows, maybe one of your friends already went through this and didn’t tell anyone because she also believed she’s the only one.”
"Hmm," Y/N squinted. "Clever." She had never thought about that. Her dad was a genius.
Jay laughed. "Feeling better?"
"A little."
"Alright, here’s what I suggest: the heater’s on, so take a long, warm shower, you can stay as long as you want, just this once. Meanwhile, I’ll wash your uniform and I’ll call your coach to inform you’re not going to practice today because you’re sick. When you're done showering, you can sleep, lay down, or we can be couch potatoes and watch a movie. I’ll cook or order whatever you want. I even brought snacks." He raised his eyebrows bragging about it.
Y/N smiled, tearing up a little. She suddenly hugged her dad tightly and cried in his arms. She was feeling a lot of emotions.
They stayed that way for a while until Jay grew concerned of her nonstop crying.
“Hey, are you alright?" he whispered, stroking her hair.
"No, yeah. I’m fine. I just... Thank you, Daddy!" She beamed at him through tears. "The movie sounds like a great idea."
"Excellent!" He clapped once and stood up, trying to cheer her up.
"Uh, Dad. You said you bought pads?"
"Oh, shit! Yes! I almost forgot!" he said, dashing out of the room.
A moment later, he returned with two plastic bags full of products.

"I didn’t know which ones were better, so..." He dumped them all on the bed. "I bought all of them."
Y/N laughed. "That’s a lot of pads!"
"I'm a cautious man" He mocked himself. He picked a random package and opened it, "Ok, do you know how to use those? It's very simple..."
"Dad! The nurse showed me how to, you don't need to worry!" Y/N said as she grabbed a random package. "The shower sounds like a nice idea, so I'll do that. I'll take your word to stay as long as I want to."
"Only this time!" He joked.
He had done a quick search on how to use the hygienic products, and was ready to teach her but he was relieved the nurse had done that job, in case he messed it up.
When Y/N came out of the shower, the smell of fresh popcorn drifted through the house. Chocolate bars were waiting on the coffee table, and a blanket was already tossed on the couch.
It was such a simple gesture, but it meant everything. Her dad had really tried and somehow, he’d gotten it right.
She padded into the living room, her face softer now, her body relaxed, and her heart a little lighter.
“All good?” Jay asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she said with a smile as she snuggled under the blanket.
She hugged her dad one more time and thanked him.
“No need to thank me,” he said gently. “This is my job.”
Y/N fell asleep fifteen minutes into the rom-com she had chosen, her head resting on her dad’s shoulder, safe, warm, with no pain and feeling completely protected.
“Than you for trusting me.” The father said quietly when his daughter was deep asleep.

The Weight Station (S2x03) Chapter 2 || Jay Halstead x Healstead Sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found this in my drafts! :)
Friendly reminder: This is the plot from season 2, episode 3 but with Jay's younger sister involved in the story. This is one of my favorite episodes, I recently rewatched it and I coulnd't avoid imagining this.
I hope you like it. Feel free to comment.
It had been a long day and she had barely been in the bullpen for about three hours. Detectives were now coming and going, but the place was always full. There was a lot of movement and Becca was paying attention to it through Voight's window's office. Hank Voight himself had settle her there as a precautionary measure since they had begun to gather new information on the case and there were some pictures and data she shouldn't know about.
The last thing she could see was the photograph of a blonde teenager that detective Atwater paste on the board "Dora Kot" was written on top of it, it gave Becca the chills. It was hard to listen from her spot, even harder because they were speaking as quiet as they could because of her presence. She gave up on her mission to understand, but it was obvious that the girl was a victim.
Outside the office, Kevin informed that there were squats protecting the people involved in the Bembenek trial.
“Bembenek anticipated that,” Al interrupted. “That's why he's going after their family members.”
After their family members.
Instinctively and feeling unconfortable with that statement, Jay raised his head to Voight's office to see his sister. At that moment, Becca was snooping throw the window and quickly hid when his brother made eye contact. That made Jay smile, but it was a sad and worried smile.
A couple of minutes later, everyone disappeared. Only Nadia remainded in her place and Becca took the opportunity to go outside the office.
“It's ok, you can come out now. Come here,” Nadia invited with her distinctive smile. “Everyone is in the interrogation room, your brother included,” she said while getting a chair close to her desk for Becca to sit there. As she passed through the board, she made sure there were no disturbing pictures for the girl.
“There. Sit down with me".” It felt good to be in the company of Nadia, she had the ability to make her feel comfortable and forget about what was going on in her surroundings.
About half an hour later, the team made an entrances down the hall. They all passed through Nadia's desk without noticing them. Halstead was the first in line, followed by Dawson, Lindsay, Voight and Olinsky at the end. All of them looked very agitaded, specially Jay who walked forcefully with a frown on his face.
“There's too many risks,” Antonio said as if it was something nobody wanted or dared to say outloud. That's when Becca and Nadia interrupted what they were doing together and started to pay attention.
“There's always risks,” Jay said calmly.
“Jay, you'd be in the car with a hitman,” Erin almost cut his phrase.
A hitman. Becca wasn't really sure about what a hitman was, she surely had an idea, but she wasn't sure or rather she didn't wat to be sure. She looked at Nadia at the eyes looking for an answer, and in a way she gave a response with a look.
“Who's retired, and who we made a deal with.” Jay was getting ready drawing his gun, not really paying attention to his partner's ideas.
“Because that changes everything,” Erin answered sarcastically.
“We don't know how many people Bembenek wants dead!” Jay screamed with annoyance.
Becca gasped a scream, at the same time that Nadia put a hand on her shoulder to reassure her that everything was all right, though she didn't believed it.
Everyone was a little bit shocked.
“Isn't this enough!?” He kept yelling pointing at the pictures on the board. At that moment, Erin realised Becca's presence next to them and tried to warned him with a sight, but he was so abstracted that didn't noticed it.
“Sarge, I will sign whatever I have to sign saying I went on my own free will, that I wasn't ordered. That'll release the city from all liability. I don't have any beneficiaries, anyway. I signed that form the day I graduated from the Academy, right before they pinned a badge on my chest.”
“Get ready.” Hak ordered to the rest of the team.
“NO!” An almost unrecognizable scream was heard in the background and Jay freezed. He hadn't realized that her sister was there at the moment, he was so abstracted in his impulses. Now he didn't know how to explain to her what he was going to do nor how to assure that he was coming back alive. He felt terribly bad for not having her in his mind when he offered himself as bait, tought he wouldn't change his decision.
“Don't do this, please,” Becca was now standing up with tears all over her face. “Don't leave me, not you.” Nadia stayed right next to her.
The words echoed throughout the bullpen. Those present were moved, Erin almost bursting into tears. Everyone was avoiding to see directly to the youngest Halstead, even her big brother.
“Give me a minute” Jay implored in a whisper and the team went downstairs, nodding their heads slightly.
“I’ve seen them before, Hank. I know the girl,” Al said on the stairs. “He might be his brother, but he's more like a father for her. I don't think she has someone else.”
“Then we'll make this work. We're all going back home tonight.”
Nadia stayed upstairs, being the emotionally support fot the girl.
“Becca…” Jay knelt down to be at her level, close to her.
“What are you doing?”
“I need to do this.” Jay was trying to reach his sister's hands, but she snatched them away.
“No, you don't!”
“Becca, listen—“ The effort to hold her turned into a tussle. Becca was trying to get away from her
brother. Making a moderate use of his strength, he managed to subdue her and hugged her as tight as he could and she ended up doing the same.
“I need to do this, it's the only way to solve this. I'm doing this for you. I'm doing this for us. And I'm doing this for many more innocent people." He took Becca's face on his hands to be face to face. “Hey, look at me! Look at me! Do you trust me?”
Becca was drowning in tears and hardly answer: "Yes".
“Then you know that I'll be back, it's a promise. I have never broken a promise to you, have I? I need you to be strong for me, ok? I will be fine, I'll be back for you!”
“Jay…” Hank's voice broke the siblings moment. “We need to move.” You could hear in his voice that he was touched by the scene.
“I love you.” Jay stood up.
“I love you too.” But Becca couldn't let his brother go, so he had to separate her from him, Nadia holding her up.
Becca kept screaming, begging Jay not to go. He didn't look back at her. It was hard to see her like that, to feel her like that. He felt her pain as if it was his very own. Each scream was like a dagger in his soul, he couldn't look back or he was going to crumble. An he had to do this, didn't he? There was no option, was it? With teary eyes, he went down and disappeared from his sister's sight.
Nadia was trying to retain her, but she was fighting back. When Jay dissapeared, she fell down to the floor and stayed there crying now in silence.
“He's going to die.” Becca said sobbing. “He's going to leave me too.” Nadia couldn't do anything but hug the little girl.
Every second that passed felt like an eternity. Becca was now sitting in the sofa at the coffe room, she had been there all the time since Nadia convinced her to rest a little. She was quiet, staring off, mostly like a zombie, tears still running down her cheeks. She hadn't eaten or drank anything. Sergeant Platt had brought her some food, but she politely rejected it.
She was immmersed in her toughts, feelings taking over her. She felt sad, angry, betrayed. For some reason, she couldn't stop thinking about her mom and how much she missed her. She looked back at the last time she saw her healthy and the last time she saw her alive. She rememebered how she used to hold her tight when things got bad, and how being in her arms used to solve all the problems in the world. Her mom's arms would solve this. She recalled her funeral and felt a doble pain in her chest.
“I want my mom,” Becca whispered, not meaning to say it outloud.
“What was that?” Platt asked in a soothing voice.
“I— I just wish I could hug my mom right now.”
“Oh, hun,” Platt approached to Becca with a hug gesture and she jumped into her arms. Nadia also approached to contain her.
She rememebered how Jay hold her tight in his arms when he told her their mother passed away. How they stayed there for hours crying embracing each other. And how from that moment, his brother's arms became his new refuge.
In the streets, the detectives' mission was over. Things had gotten complicated, but they managed to succeed. Jay was alive, none of his parteners injured, and the target had been captured. When the adrenaline rushed down, Jay couldn't think about anything but Becca. Somehow he even began to question his actions.
“What would have happened to her if I had died?” He asked while going back to 21st.
“Don't do this to yourself, Jay. It didn't happened. You are alive, you are coming back to her, that's what matters,” Erin said while driving. “What's done is done. You were just doing your work, and you did it good.”
Jay was thinking about what to do to make it up for Becca. A movie night happened to be a good idea for the moment, but he also tought about taking a few days off to spend them totally with her. Maybe they could make a little trip or something like that, whatever she wanted. He just wanted to be with her, for her.
At the bullpen, Trudy gave the news to Becca: “Voight called, everything went good. Your brother will be here soon.”
“Is he alright?”
“Safe and sound,” Platt smiled.
“He kept his primise, you see?” Nadia recalled.
It was until that moment of relief that Becca stopped crying. She smiled for the first time in hours. She was relieved, but she still felt something heavy inside of her chest. There was nothing she wanted more that seeing Jay, but at the same time she wasn't ready, it was confusing. She felt tired, really tired as she never had felt before and from one second to another, she fall asleep in the couch.
“She cried all day, literally. She passes out at the moment she knew you were safe. She didn't eat or drink anything". Nadia informed Jay when he arrived to the bullpen. “She's in the coffee room.”
Jay stared at Becca for a few minutes before deciding to wake her up. He gently touched her arm, whispering her name. It didn't took long until she opened her eyes.
“Hey, it's me.”
“Jay?” She sat down in a quick movement.
“Yeah. I'm back.” And they hug each other. There wasn't much to say, really. They both were safe now.
“I'm so glad you're fine. I was scared—“
“I know,” he interrupted. “I'm so sorry I put you trough this. I really am. Let me compensate it.”
“It's ok.” Becca said, now looking him at the eyes. “I'm just tired. I wanna go home.”
“Sure. Let me change and grab some things and we'll go home. I tought we could have a movie night, you pick what to watch. We'll pass for some groceries, whatever you want, even that junk food you like to eat so much...”
“No, Jay. I want to go home... dad's home.”
“Oh.” He didn't understand, that didn't make any sense. “Ok, uh— then I'll drive you there, I guess.”
“You don't need to. When they told me you were fine, I asked Nadia and Sergeant Platt to contact dad. I bet he was mad, but he said he'd pick me up. So, you don't need to worry.”
Jay's heart was beating so fast. Becca's reaction took him off guard, this wasn't what he had planned and it didn't feel good. He wanted to ask why, but he knew the answer and didn't want to hear it. He had hurt her more that he could imagine, he knew that.
“Ok, then I'll just wait here with you.”
Becca didn't really want to go to her father's place. She wanted to be with Jay, but at the same time the idea hurt so much. She didn't undersand the feeling, and couldn't put it in words, but it was like a black hole consuming her.
They stayed there sitting next to each other in silence. Jay thinking she needed space, Becca wanted to say something, but not being able to speak. The rest of the team was comig back and the office was filling with noises.
“Your dad is downstairs, Beckie,” Nadia announced and went back to her desk.
Jay turned to his sister with a smirk: "Beckie?"
“I know, shut up!” She smiled a little bit. “She was really nice to me.”
Jay took note on that to thank her later.
They both stood up, “Time to go.” And walked along. When they were in the middle of the stairs, Jay stopped dead.
“Becca, I am really sorry. I never thought…” His voice sounded as if he was swallowing tears.
“I know, Jay. It is what you do. I just want to go home.”
Jay nodded, even when he knew she would never call that place “home.” When he opened the gate, he stayed inside.
“You're not comming?” At the same time she ask the question, Becca spotted her father downstairs. “It's ok, I understand,” she said to Jay giving him a small smile and rushed to go down.
He couldn't go any further, tough he wanted to escort his sister. It was hard enough to see his father at the distance, he couldn't be any close to him. He grow in anger when he saw how the man barely paid attention to his daughter, and how it seemeed he wasn't totally sobber. He stayed there a while after he saw them dissappear throught the door. He was worried, but couldn't do more.
Going back upstairs, Antonio was planning on going to Molly's, to which everyone agreed to.
“Are you coming?” Erin asked Jay, noticing he was down. “This is your celebration, anyway.”
“No, I don't think so. Tough day, I'll just have a beer at my place.”
“Are you ok? You want me to go over?”
“No. I need to be alone.”
Before going to his apparment, Jay stopped at a grocery store as he had planned to do with Becca, and bought all of her favorite ships and candies. He always teased her for eating all of these trash, but she loved it. He grabbed a coulple of beers too, he wasn't planning to stay sobber tonight.
At his place, he crashed in the sofa to watch a Hockey game while drinking. The adrenaline of the day had rushed down. He opened a bag of ships, Becca's favorites and started to cry. He felt selfish realicing the place where he had put his little sister without even thinking about it at the moment. He was wondering when would Becca forgive her, and if he would be able to forgive himself.

Reviving this because I just found a part two in my drafts lol
The Weight Station (S2x03) Chapter 1 || Jay Halstead x Halstead Sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly erased my other blog 🫠 (I only found parts 1 and 2, I'm missing p.3)
This is the plot from season 2, episode 3 but with Jay's younger sister involved in the story. This is one of my favorite episodes, I recently rewatched it and I coulnd't avoid imagining this.
This first part is more about what we see in the real episode, with the addition of Jay's sister.
Second part will be more about Becca waiting at the bullpen for Jay when he offers himself as bait. Nadia Decotis and trudy Platt involved. A lot of anxiety, stress, crying and lovely feelings to her brother. *I think I actually started writing this for what now will be the second part...and also the ending*
I hope you like it. Please feel free to comment.

The first rays of sun began to peek through the window. Becca was lying face up on her bed, looking at the ceiling almost without blinking. She had had another rough night of not being able to sleep. She was worried, very worried about her brother, and although there had only been a couple of days without seeing him, she missed him, she needed him.
She had gotten used to stay at his sibling's place and not at her father's house. Becca didn't like it there, even when she had her own room and all of her things where there, she preffered her big bother's company. Her father was a bit negligent and didn't pay much attention to her since her mother died, and that was kinda a long time ago, or it felt like a long time ago for a 10 years old girl.
Jay hadn't made contact with her in days, and that was strange. Becca was starting to feel worried, she knew about the risks of his work and her mind had begun to imagine various catastrophic scenarios. More than anything, she felt lonely. It was very easy for her to fall into this void. She was quiet young to have this sort of feelings, but this was the path life had taken her at such a young age. Jay was all she had, and she was very afraid of loosing him.
Becca was starting her first class at school when the principal interrupted: "I'm here to take Becca Halstead" -all eyes posed on her -"Take all of your belonging, sweetie, and head with me to the office, please" -Becca's heart drop off. The principal's smile to her was so condescending that she immediatly knew something was wrong.
-"There is a couple of cops here to pick you up" -The principal informed Becca while walking through the hallway - "Your brother send them". Now she couldn't stop thinking about what could have happened to Jay and her tendency to overthink made her anxious.
Becca stood silence, trying to hold back tears. She had a lot of questions in her mind, a lot of feelings. This was the first thing she had heard about Jay existence in days. A policewoman that noticed the concern in her eyes.
-"Hi! It's Becca, right? "- She started with a very soft voice - "I'm Kim, this is my partner Roman. We work with your brother Jay, he's our friend. He send us to pick you up and take you with him, is that all right?".
-"What's happening?" -The question slipped from her mouth - "And why didn't he come to pick me up by himself, then?"
-"Those are questions we cannot answer".
-"Is he--?"
-"Your brother is fine. I promise" -Kim reassured her.
At the bullpen, all the team was working on solving Jay's case. It was known that he had a target on his back and even when he was carefull about it, he had suffer some attacks. First, someone broke into his house, that's when he decided to get away from his sister for a while, to not even call her. But things scallated quickly, last night someone tried to shoot him when he was with Erin at a bar, and unfortunatelly one of his friends was injured. Also, Olinsky's CI told him that thugs had knowledge about Becca, and they would not hesitate in using her, since Jay had become a difficult target to take.
-"So, you know the victim?" -Hank asked.
-"Maddie Callahan, she worked there" -Jay said with guilt in his voice.
-"No ID of the shooter?
-"No" -Erin answered-"Patrol is going door to door in the neighborhood looking for witnesses".
-"That was the hospital" -Antonio hung the phone and approached to Jay- "Your friend is in ICU, but she's alive".
-"Thanks".
-"Hey! It's not your fault" -Antonio reaffirmed looking into Halstead's eyes and then walked to Voight: "Someone needs to talk to Bemberek".
-"Oh, Olinsky's already on that".
Atwater came out from one of the rooms: "A black Arcadia was found abandoned in Englewood. It matches the description of the getaway vehicle, but there's no prints they torched it".
"White male just checked into a south side clinic about half an hour ago, two bullet wounds" -Adam completed the information.
-"All right" -Hanks started- "Lindsay, Antonio, get on it". -Voight rushed when he catched Jay standing up and taking his coat to go out: "No, no, no, Jay. You're in protective custody until this dies down".
-"They shoot my friend! They nearly killed me and Erin, they spoted my little sister..."
-"You got a target on your back. You are not going anywhere till that tatget's removed".
-"So, I'm under house arrest?" -Jay was really angry.
At that moment, Burgess and Roman went up on the stairs to the office.
-"We're back" -Kim said in a high tone to calm the situation -"And we have company, so...". -Everyone at the bullpen fixed their eyes on the girl in school uniform. They were impressed on how much she ressembled to Jay.
-"Becca!" -Jay was so relieved to see her.
Becca dropped her backpack on the floor and ran to hug her brother. She had had a couple of horrible days, but now feeling calmed in his arms, and knowing he was safe, she started to cry: "I tought something bad had happened to you. Dad's going crazy. You didn't call, I haven't seen you in days. I thought you were--".
-"Shhh" -Jay stopped her sister's emotional verbal vomit and hugged her even tighter-"I'm sorry -- I'm all right, you're all right. We're good!". -He said stroking her hair.
Everyone was looking at the scene tenderly. Until that day, no one except Al knew Jay had a little sister, nor that she was so little. Erin's eyes filled up a little with tears.
Alvin Olinsky knew about Becca's existence from a visit to Jay's place the day he lost his badge due to Rodieger's murder. She was there asleep, occupying all of the sofa.
-"We went to your father's house, but he refused to come with us" -Roman interrupted -"He was quiet a charming man" -he said sarcastically -"We can send a unit to check on him".
-"That won't be necessary". -Jay answered without taking his eyes off his sister.
-"You wanted us, sargent?" -Kim asked.
-"Halstead doesn't leave your sight until I say so" -Voight told Burgess and Roman, drawing the attention back to the case -"And he stays here ar 21st along his sister".
-"Got it".
-"You don't have to stay up in here to have an eye on me! You got to be kidding me!" -Jay's anger took over him again. His sister stepped aside, though he was holding her by the shoulder.
-"Keep an eye on him" -Hank ordered before going downstairs.
He took his coat and threw it on his desk making a loud noise, to which Becca reacted with a little frightened jump and a sigh. Erin stared at Jay and gave the girl a reassureness smile before following the sargent.
Suddenly, the detectives were gone and everything stood silent. At the bullpen there were only Nadia, Kim and Roman, all of them attending their own business, but keeping an eye on the Halsteads.
-"There's fresh water on the frigde, or juice if you like it" -Nadia broke the silence. "I don't think you drink coffe, do you?" -She approached to Becca with a warm smile, heading her to the coffe room.
-"Go" -Jay granted -"I'll be with you in a sec".
Nadia was nice and talkative. She was trying to distract Becca, which Jay appreciated. Stealthily, he approached the room when he heard his sister laugh, that sound was like medicine to his heart and mind, which right now was full of stuff. When Becca noticed him, they stared and Nadia felt like it was the moment to leave the room.
-"Wha-what's going on?" -Becca asked slightly worried- "Don't you dare to lie to me, I'm not stupid". -Jay chuckled, he knew she wouldn't let it go.
-"Well, umm...let's say that a few days ago I caught a bad guy, right? And now this bad guy's brother is chasing me, BUT my friends are out there looking for him and they're gonna find him. There's nothing you should worry about".
-"So we're staying here until they catch him?".
-"That's right".
-"I guess you're safe here, aren't you? You are safe as long as you stay here".
-"We are safe as long as we stay here, yes".
-"I'm always safe when you are around" -Becca expressed in the most sincere way possible and Jay felt it deep in his heart.
A few hours passed. Jay wouldn't stop looking at his phone waiting for updates about the case. Becca spend her time sitting at her brother's desk coloring, or playing with Nadia, or asking police questions to Kim. She was a ray of sunshine for those present.
The phone rang and Nadia answered it. Her cheerful mood suddenly changed: "Okay. Okay. Got it". Jay was in a trance when she called him.
-"Um, detective Healstead?" -Jay turned to her- "Sargeant Voight is on his way up with the suspect". -In that moment, Kim and Roman approached to Jay- "Um, he asked that on his way to the interview room, you wait in his office for them to pass by".
-"Which suspect?"
-"Uh--" -Burgess made a sign for Nadia to not say a word - "Maybe it's better that you don't know, right?" -She talked to Jay, but he ignored her.
-"Is it the shooter?" -He asked standing up in anger.
Becca started getting tense again by the tone of the conversation "shooter? What shooter?"
-"Let's head in Voight's office, Jay" -Roman tried to calm the atmosphere. At that moment, Kim reached Becca's side.
-"First of all it's detective. Second of all, let's not me and you get off on the wrong foot".
-"I'm all for that. But if you can join me in Voight's office, detective, that would be great".
-"Jay..."-Becca called him in a pleading tone and he reacted to that.
From the inside of the office it was easy to observe how Hank was holding another man "That's him! That's him!" -In the fastest way possible, Jay ran to him, but was held by the two cops at the door: "Sarge, give me five minutes. Give me five minutes!", but Voight didn't even turned to see him. Becca had never seen his brother so angry and she got terrified at how intimmidating he could be.
-"Is that what we're going to do, throw? Because you're not walking past me until I get an "all cleared" -Roman was face to face with Jay - "You got that?".
-"Jay..." -This time the girl called more as a whisper, for her voice did not come out of her throat.
Becca was now a mixure of feelings and she couldn't stand it no more. Little did she know that this was the begining of a living nightmare.

Part 6 coming up
The Fragile Bonds Part 5 || Jay and Will Halstead x Halstead Sister
Tumblr media
Summary: After their father's death, Becca moved in with Jay. This is the first time the detective brother has to go undercover since his sister has been under his full care, creating a challenging situation for both. Reluctantly, Becca will have to live with Will and his family during those days, even though she doesn't feel very welcome in that household.
More than a year later but here you go!
The bullpen was dimly illuminated only by the street lights entering through the big windows. It was silent, everyone was gone, except for Hailey, who was waiting sitting at her boyfriend’s desk. She was extremely tired and falling asleep, her eyes were shutting but she was fitting it, until she couldn’t resist it anymore.
Hailey! Hails!
Jay’s voice kindly woke her up. “Why are you still here?” He said while gently taking the hair from her face and tugging it behind her ear.
“I was waiting for you.” She said as something obvious, followed by a long yawn to which Jay smirked.
“I’m not going home, honey. I’m going to pick up Becca.”
“I know” She answered back while standing up to stretch herself. “I’m going with you. I promised her I’d visit and I couldn’t.” Her tone changed with that last sentence but Jay didn’t really notice since he was trying to call Will.
“Will is not answering.”
“He’s probably sleeping. It’s late and they have a toddle at home. You probably shouldn’t be even calling him without texting him first.”
“Argh!” Jay gasped. “My phone died, I’ll charge it in the truck.”
“I’m going with you if you don’t mind.” The blonde detective said while taking her jacket
“There are some things you should know, anyway.”
Meanwhile, Becca was walking on the sidewalk of a moderately busy street. She was tired and hungry but couldn’t really think about it because she was mostly freezing. She had tried to use her phone again, only to realize she had lost it.
Defeated, she sat on the first bench she found and started crying. She looked around but didn’t recognize the street or any place around. She hadn’t been there before… or maybe she had, but she was too stressed to realize. She was lost, without a way to communicate, and in her mind, she couldn’t simply ask for help because the police would be involved, and they’d just take her back to Will.
“Mom, please help me,” she said in a faint voice. She was scared. All the stories her brother had told her, all the details of cases she shouldn’t have heard, came to her mind. She was really scared.
And with that vulnerability, everything came to her mind vividly: Owen biting Mr. Snuggles, Will trying to mend the situation, Nat’s voice, Nat tearing Mr. Snuggles' tail. The day she locked herself in the bathroom, the feeling of being abandoned at school, not being able to go to her dance classes, her safe space. All the bad emotions of the week were summed up in her mind, trying to tear her apart. And she could feel anxiety growing inside of her. Jay came to mind. They hadn’t talked in a while, and when he had the chance to call, she missed the opportunity because she was doing what? Nothing important. She started wondering how he was doing. Was he alright? What if the bad guys hurt him?
“Okay,” she muttered to herself. “No time for this. No time for this. What would Jay say?”
And suddenly, the bad feelings started to cease as she could hear Jay’s voice telling her to breathe. She closed her eyes, and that’s all she was able to hear: Breathe, breathe. Just breathe. After a few minutes, she opened her eyes and stood up from the bench.
Becca looked around, calmly. She observed all of the places around: the streets, the alleys… and then she smiled to herself. “Thank you, Jay Jay,” she said out loud. “I do know where I am.” And she started walking again.
“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” Jay was trying to control his tone. Hailey was sitting in the passenger seat, turning her body toward him while speaking. She was worried. Jay turned to face her from time to time, trying to also stay alert while driving.
“I wasn’t there when it happened,” Upton argued. “I was undercover with you! Platt told me the next day and it was already solved. I didn’t find it necessary to worry you with it, you already had a lot of shit to deal with. This would’ve only distracted you and put you at risk.”
Jay stayed silent. He was growing angry. His girlfriend could see it in his clenched jaw and tense temple. But he wasn’t mad at her, he was mad at Will and, mostly, at himself.
“Hey, Jay,” she squeezed his shoulder and took him out of his trance. “We were all taking care of her. I was taking care of her.”
He nodded and tried to smile. “Yeah. I know,” he said while taking her hand in his.
“She’ll feel better as soon as she sees you,” Hailey beamed at her boyfriend. “And, guess what?”
“What?”
“I got her the present. The one you wanted to give her.”
“Really? How?” Jay was still preoccupied, but his tone abruptly changed to a more cheerful one.
“I have my contacts.” She winked.
“Point in your favor. You keep managing to be her favorite.”
Ding, ding, ding
The sound of numerous notifications interrupted the moment. One after another, they didn’t stop.
“My phone must be charged now,” he said while Hailey grabbed it. “Uh, can you call Will, please?”
“Sure,” she agreed, already looking for the number. “Hmm, he’s not answering.”
“Maybe one more time?” But it was the same.
“Alright,” Jay gasped. “I hate the idea, but can you please try to call Natalie?”
“Hm. Weird,” Hailey spoke in a tone he didn’t like. “She hung up the call.”
The Halstead brother was starting to feel like something was wrong.
“It’s late, but maybe they’re out celebrating Becca’s birthday?” Upton suggested.
The two detectives looked at each other and said “No” at the same time.
“Okay. I know you planned on surprising her, but what if we call Becca?” Hailey suggested. “Listening to her voice will give you peace of mind.”
Her boyfriend nodded to this idea.
“Hmm. Straight to voicemail.”
“What?”
“It went straight to voicemail. I think it’s off.”
“I don’t like this,” Jay said after a few seconds of silence. His detective gut was telling him something was off.
“Don’t freak out,” Hailey warned while scrolling through the texts on his phone. “But you do have a lot of messages from her. Nothing bad, though. Only a lot of ‘I miss yous,’ ‘I love yous,’ ‘I hope you are safe’… There’s a voicemail.”
“She never calls. She’s scared of calls. The only time she called me…”
“I know.” She stopped him from saying what he didn’t want to speak out loud. “It’s from earlier tonight,” Hailey said as she played it on speaker.
Jay Jay… Becca’s voice came through on the other end of the phone, followed by a flurry of noise before the call abruptly cut off.
“What the— Is that all?” the concerned brother asked. “She— was she out?”
“It sounded like a street, yes.” She replayed the recording to listen more carefully.
“She sounds scared.” Without realizing it, Jay’s foot pressed harder on the gas and the car picked up speed.
“There are no more texts or voicemails, that was all.” She said as she took her phone from her duffel bag. “I promised I’d visit her today, but I couldn’t because of the case. I texted her to tell her, but I’m not sure if she read my message…”
“What? What do you got?” the concerned brother asked, eyes on the road but trying to look at Hailey’s phone at the same time.
“Hailey, I need you. Please call me,”she read Becca’s text out loud.
“Is that from Beccs? Hailey—” he got interrupted by another voicemail.
Hailey. Hailey, I really need your help! This time, her voice was edged with panic and agitation. No, get off!
“Was that the voice of a man?”
“Yes, yes it was. But I can’t understand what he said.”
As soon as Jay turned onto Will’s street, both detectives leaned forward when they saw the patrol car parked outside the house.
“Oh my God,” Hailey gasped.
As he quickly approached the scene and Hailey shot him a look filled with urgency, he knew something really bad had happened, and that it involved his little sister. He thought the worst, and his eyes started to water in anger. He had faced the worst criminals in the city, but nothing had ever made him more scared than something bad happening to his little sister.
It was almost midnight. Becca was still walking, arms wrapped around herself in an attempt to stay warm. The wind was freezing and biting into her skin. Her face, her nose and cheeks were all red. Her skin hurt. She was feeling so many things that she didn’t realize she had started to cry. But she kept going, because now she had a destination: she was going to visit her mom.
“Detective Halstead?” one of the cops acknowledged him as he strode toward them.
“What’s going on?” He ignored his colleague and asked Will directly, with a gaze that could pierce through his soul.
“Do you know each other?” the female cop asked, confused.
“He’s my brother. Where’s Becca?” He never took his sight from him.
“She’s not here. Seems like she escaped,” Hailey rushed to say with a stern tone and a killer gaze, walking into the house, with Natalie following her closely.
“What do you mean she escaped!?” Jay screamed in anger and leaned toward his brother, who instinctively raised his hands to defend himself.
“You weren’t here. You don’t know what happened, and you’re too angry to understand.”
“Hey, hey. Detective!” the female cop jumped between the two brothers and started addressing Jay directly. “We just arrived. We’re doing our work to find her. But according to your brother, the girl left about two hours ago… so, do you have any idea where she might be heading?”
“Two hours!?” Jay exploded. “Two hours and you just called the police!?”
“Detective! Detective!” the other cop called his attention. “Let’s calm down and focus on what matters, which is to find your sister. I was asking your brother for a picture of the girl…”
“I don’t have any picture… any recent picture. Sorry,” Will said, ashamed.
But Jay wasn’t paying attention to his brother anymore. He snatched up his phone and quickly dialed a number with urgency in every movement. At the same time, Hailey came out of the house followed by Natalie, who obviously wasn’t happy with the situation and kept saying this was too drama around a teenager’s tantrum.
On the other side of the call, between the sounds of chattering and music, a raspy voice came through.
“Sarge, I need your help,” Jay said into his phone.
At the entrance of the house, he noticed Hailey carrying Mr. Snuggles and his ripped tail.

¡Holi!
I'm so glad and excited to be back here! ☺️ I have a lot of energy and motivation to write, so I'm taking requests. They can be for any of the Chicago shows and characters, though if it's P.D., even better!
Besides The Fragile Bonds, I have a few other fics I still need to start :))))))) Are we still writing fics for P.D? Do we all still love Jay, Hailey, Upstead? lol
