In response to a strike going on half-way around the world, local union members showed up to support miners in Papua, Indonesia on Friday. Eight miners have died in violent protests at the Grasberg Mine since the strike began on Sept. 25, according to the AP. The copper mine in Indonesia, the world's largest, is owned by the Phoenix-based company Freeport McMoran. The company declined to comment on the demonstration at its headquarters, or the ongoing strike in Indonesia.

The Occupy movement that started on New York’s Wall Street has gone international, with protesters demonstrating against social and economic inequality around the world. About 1000 people showed up to Occupy Phoenix on Friday, demonstrating against social and economic inequalities. One single-mother explains her reasons for joining the movement.
