"Relive" ( 28/08/2010) By Farhana Hussain and Chantelle lake Our interactive installation work presentation to our class in our studio. The idea was to reproduce or recreate a child's birthday party to generate a psychological as well as a physical movement: journey through time and space, leading to various actions, including making various sounds. The piece regards to the journey from the adulthood to the childhood because throughout time we all eventually have to grow up...but that does not mean that once we grow up we neccessarily forget our "childish" ways; we intend to be all logical and practical while suppressing that little kid in us. As a result, we become an epitome of boredom stuck with boring everyday routined tasks (sounds harsh but is true to some extent). Hence, our purpose was to bring those people out of their boring everyday life for a little while to their "once upon" a childhood carefree time and event. In away we were trying to revive, reexperience and recreate those childhood memories. The whole setting/installation was created in the first place to be interactive with the audiences/participants that started with a simple instruction "Help yourselves to the drinks and food!". The audiences brightened up instantly which provoked chattering and laughing. They loosened up instantly, were excited by the time we moved onto the passing the parcel game, where there were gifts within. So, when the music stopped the parcel possessor gets to open it and take a gift out. Inspired by Roger Hiorns, David Enrico and Rirkirt Tirivanija.

Puzzle 1 (2012) Laser Wood Etching 8 pieces of 30x30cm MDF (122x61cm) by Farhana Hussain
It's an INTERACTIVE piece. Viewer takes on the role of a participant and tries to solve this puzzle. My idea is to recreate the experience of playing with the jigsaw puzzle from ones childhood while the participants pieces together a moment from my own childhood: a photo from my 12th birthday...
