so it feels obvious that the ‘mercy’ part of mercymorn’s name comes from john’s deep rooted belief that mercy does not exist (only blissful ignorance or whatever he said), but i wonder if morn comes from ‘mourn’, ‘morning’, or both?

like obviously mourn feels more obvious, but considering the spelling (and tamsyn muir is not one to shy away from the complex), i think morning and some symbolism involving that could be feasible?

Nona the Ninth is an interesting book, because a character named 'Hot Sauce' will be like, "I'm doing mysterious things" and then the totally very normal main character Nona will ask about her own mysterious backstory, only for your point of view to shift to the Holy Bible of fucking John while the book screams "FOUR DAYS TILL THE FUCKING TOMB OPENS LOSER" this book series is ruining my life

So as many of us know, Admiral Sarpedon is almost certainly named for the Sarpedon of the Iliad, a soldier who fought for Troy during the Trojan War. (Wikipedia provides a potential alternative: Sarpedon of Thrace, who was not a soldier but a victim of Heracles in the Herculean myths. I think this is unlikely in this context.)

This namesake has caused a lot of confusion re: Sarpedon's House. He seems almost like an exception to the general rule, given a personal name in lieu of a numerical name.

However, Sarpedon is in fact also a functional arithmonym, drawn from the ancient Sanskrit word for the number eight, sarpa. This suggests that Sarpedon almost certainly hails from the Eighth House.

when I was a freshman in college, me and one of my roommates were completely infatuated with our RA, who was stunning and rode a motorcycle and taught self defense classes. and obviously she didn’t give a fuck about either of us, two just-turned 18 freshmen, and all we could do was fuck each other about it. like we were so down bad for the same woman that through our shared horny suffering we forged a beautiful and unhinged fwb relationship.
