This piece was partly inspired by a scene from the Demon Slayer series where the protagonist (Tanjiro Kamado) find himself in a dream sequence wreathed in wisteria flowers as he wrestles his sanity and sense of self.

I think the most reasonable explanation is that he tian isn’t estranged from his family at all

he likely still works for/under them, but he’s proven his worth and has been granted some independence to start contributing to the family business via his own pursuits. he wouldn’t have had the funds to start his business from scratch without any help (I think guan shan also pointed this out a few chapters ago) and I sincerely doubt that he cheng would let his little brother completely break off on his own (I think it’s been confirmed that all the nice cars he tian owns were gifted to him by his brother)

that being said, it all must still be incredibly taxing — hence the exhaustion you’ve pointed out, which I agree is very obvious. it could just be due to his maturity, but I would argue that he tian is borderline miserable yet still managing to keep his head above water. he probably doesn’t like what he does for a living, but it’s earning a profit and he’s good at it, and it’s a more tasteful option than continuing to do whatever work his father/brother are involved with

so, basically: running his own business is the lesser of two evils, but he’s still being emotionally and physically drained because it’s associated with and/or partially funded by his family — as well as whatever underground mess they’re involved with!

also while im in the over analyzing, rambling mood, timeskip he tian seems so much more tired both emotionally and physically, it's like he's exhausted

it just makes me wonder like, what exactly happened while he tian was gone? how estranged is he really from his family? how much was just studying abroad and how much was he actually witnessing and learning about his family "buisness"? we know he tian hates his dad and what his family does and we also know his dad to some degree wanted he tian to be a part of the family business

but he tian says he started a buisness to take care of mo

which i am so interested like if he truly did separate from his father and his family, how? how did he manage that? what did he have to go through first before gaining that freedom? we know he's still close to his brother from some of the extra chapters and official art where we see him take mo to visit he cheng and brother qiu

im just so curious about what happened to he tian while he was gone, what happened between him and his dad? him and his brother? if he's truly free from his father how did that happen? what sort of "buisness" is he even running? why does he look so damn exhausted all the time???

i think he tian and mo guan shan need to have an in depth conversation about everything that happened, like i think he tian needs to explain why he left, i also think its difficult because i think he tian doesn't want to tell mo, like he wants to keep mo as far away from that part of his life as possible, he wants to protect mo as much as he can but after everything they've been through and the way he tian is just sort of inserting himself back into mo's life like nothing happened mo deserves to know why he tian had to leave

but i don't think old xian will ever show it in the comic so to the fanfics i go

i never EVER think about the commonalities between mo and jian yi. the mirrored loneliness between them. how just one genuine connection with zhengxi lit up jian yi’s world, made everything feel warmer. and how, in contrast, she li’s approach only pushed guan shan further into isolation, poisoning what was left of his already fragile self-worth.

and, then, i RARELY ever think about how fiercely jian yi stood up for mo when he was falsely accused of assaulting a female classmate (which she li manipulated mo into taking the fall for in the first place) and people kept saying it would be better for mo to disappear.
