I kind of hate that the organizers got exactly what they wanted, like the US Open mixed doubles are everywhere right now. And they knew what they were doing with those pairings. It kind of sucks that they snubbed real mixed doubles players for this and I hate that it worked exactly how they wanted. Everybody will watch that Emma and Carlos match (if they actually play) just for seeing them interact. I don't know how much that will help mixed doubles in the future though...

same thoughts 😕 imo it's one thing to have this as an exho with the intent of promoting mixed doubles as a discipline, but to call the winner a "grand slam champion" is frankly an insult to the idea of... grand slam champions 😭

anyway, it's obvious that this all really stems from the view that doubles is inferior to singles. which is funny to say since, this past week, i've seen a bunch of singles player duos lose to double specialists lmao 💀 it's an issue that kinda reminds me of the RG women's scheduling fiasco, the refusal to uproot the status quo translates to these lazy solutions to "grow the sport". do these tennis execs really think doubles isn't marketable? or is there just no significant efforts to promote the discipline?
