Lately 🌙

A selection of my works is currently exposed at @chezstephy bar in Saint-Gilles, Brussels! I would like to thank the staff of Chez Stephy for their kindness and all the people that came for the opening in November! 🌷

In these days I felt deeply inspired and I was driven to create illustrations and calligraphy on larger formats! I'm also engaging in new exciting projects and commissions!

Now that I'm (finally) working on the post-production of this loving project, I would like to share some selected illustrations made for @le_vanvere 's #whatasketchbook2022! 💧 Here are a few words from the book Il Processo di Condanna di Giovanna D’Arco (curated by Teresa Cremisi, published by SE SRL, Milano 2000) about Joan of Arc’s father and her men’s clothes. ⚔️

«SECONDO INTERROGATORIO COMPLEMENTARE | Lunedì 12 marzo | Nella prigione di Giovanna […] GIUDICE: Parlaci dei sogni di tuo padre. GIOVANNA: Quando ancora stavo con i miei genitori, mia madre ebbe più volte a dirmi che mio padre aveva sognato che io, sua figlia, me ne sarei andata con dei soldati; per questo avevano molta cura di me e mi sorvegliavano con grande preoccupazione. Io ho sempre ubbidito loro in tutto, tranne che al processo di Toul, in quella faccenda di matrimonio. Ho sentito dire da mia madre che mio padre ripeteva ai miei fratelli: «Se mai quella cosa che ho sognato dovesse avverarsi, io preferirei che voi l’annegaste; e se non lo farete voi, l’annegherò io con le mie stesse mani». Quando poi partii per Vancouleurs, poco ci mancò che uscissero di senno. GIUDICE: Tuo padre cominciò ad avere questi pensieri, questi sogni, dopo che tu avesti le tue visioni? In quanto all’abito, risponderò un’altra volta; per adesso non so se posso. Ma domani vi risponderò. GIUDICE: Pensavi di fare male indossando un abito maschile? GIOVANNA: No. E anche adesso, se fossi con i miei, dall’altra parte, in questo stesso abito da uomo e continuassi a fare quello che facevo prima della cattura, credo che sarebbe bene per la Francia. «GIUDICE: Sei rimasta a lungo nella torre di Beaurevoir? GIOVANNA: Quattro mesi circa; quando seppi che sarebbero venuti gli inglesi, fui molto in collera. Le mie Voci mi proibirono più volte di lanciarmi dalla torre ma poi, per paura degli inglesi, decisi di lanciarmi dopo aver raccomandato la mia anima a Dio e alla Santa Vergine e rimasi ferita. Dopo il salto, la voce di santa Caterina mi disse di farmi coraggio, che sarei guarita e che quelli di Compiègne avrebbero ricevuto aiuti. Io pregavo sempre per quelli di Compiègne insieme alle mie Voci. GIUDICE: che cosa hai raccontato dopo quel salto dalla torre? GIOVANNA: Alcuni dicevano che ero morta; non appena i borgognoni si accorsero che ero ancora viva, furono loro a dirmi che mi ero buttata di sotto. […] GIUDICE: Giovanna, di’ ai tuoi giudici perché ti sei gettata dalla torre di Beaurevoir. GIOVANNA: Avevo sentito dire che gli abitanti di Compiègne, tutti a partire dall’età di sette anni, sarebbero stati passati per le armi. Here are a few words from the book Il Processo di Condanna di Giovanna D’Arco (curated by Teresa Cremisi, published by SE SRL, Milan 2000) about Joan of Arc’s banner. ⚜️ «BEAUPÈRE: Quando andasti a Orléans avevi uno stendardo. Di che colore era? GIOVANNA: Avevo uno stendardo tutto disseminato di gigli; sopra c’erano raffigurati il mondo con due gigli ai lati; era bianco, di tela bianca, e c’erano scritti i nomi di Gesù e Maria. Aveva frange di seta. BEAUPÈRE: Questi nomi, Gesù e Maria, erano scritti in alto, in basso o di lato? GIOVANNA: Di lato, credo. BEAUPÈRE: A che cosa era più affezionata? Al tuo stendardo o alla tua spada? GIOVANNA: Al mio stendardo! Ci tenevo molto, quaranta volte più che alla mia spada. BEAUPÈRE: Chi ti ha detto di far dipingere quelle figure sullo stendardo? GIOVANNA: Quante volte devo dire che tutto quello che ho fatto l’ho fatto per la volontà di Dio? Portavo io stessa il mio stendardo quando andavo in battaglia, perché non volevo uccidere gente. Non ho mai ucciso nessuno. […] GIUDICE: Cosa voleva dire quella immagine di Dio che reggeva il mondo con i due angeli?
