But we DO know what she wanted. Did you play the quest?? She rejected the orokin caste system for the child. The operator said the child was taking her energy and she wasn't fighting it.

The purpose of the latter dialogue was to tell us she could've fought but didn't. This isn't that difficult to understand? Sometimes women do want children, you know?

Okay, I let this sit for a bit to gather my thoughts, because I didn't want to answer it directly in a haze of emotion. That wouldn't be conducive to any kind of beneficial exchange of dialogue.

I'm going to preface this by saying my issue was never the baby, or that Jade was pregnant. Some people took issue with it for personal reasons, which contributes to my belief that the narrative overall could have been handled better (this includes the warning we got at the start. A lot of us got blindsided by the pregnancy at the end because that warning was far too vague, which is where a LOT of the upset comes from, and I can understand why)

Now. She could very well have wanted the child. You could very well be right, and I acknowledge that. I disagree, but I also acknowledge that I could be wrong. My problem, in this case, comes less from the idea that she wanted the child, and more that we only ever get told this by other characters in the narrative. Even Umbra's quest gives us more insight into his internal thoughts than Jade Shadows does for Jade. That's a bit part of my issue. It's not about the kid, or her wanting it. It's that people are speaking FOR her in a way that gives her no real voice. Even just a simple line from the Operator saying that Jade told them she wanted it would have sufficed as a way to mitigate this.

My other issues with the quest stem more from the fact that we're not really given a reason to be invested in Jade, or the chemistry she had with Stalker, beyond one or two flashbacks from Stalker's perspective.

I don't think the quest was bad. It could have been far far worse, and there were good elements. I even enjoyed some parts. The baby itself was adorable. But it wasn't good, either. It left more questions than answers, when it was being sold as a quest that would give us answers. It could have, and should have, been handled better.

I don't like how it was handled. There was cool points, there was potential. But it got fumbled, HARD

We weren't given what we were promised. We were told his motivations would be made more clear after this. That we'd understand him better. But we weren't given that. We've been left with more questions and almost no answers.

I like that he was confirmed to be Umbral, and not have a pilot. But it feels like a hollow "oh hey I was right" than an excited "holy shit I was right"

Idk.

There were ways they could have kept the core of whatever the hell is going on in the quest and handle it with SO MUCH more tact.

Someone living out their entire game in character as their operator oc, making social media posts in character, extremely dedicated to saying everything in character. Their fashion also usually looks like a skyrim mod (sometimes they do it in third person and speak about their operator like it's their little virtual pet)

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
