Hey guys! I've had a lot of ideas I wanna share with you that we're inspired by our lovely Battle Medic Breezepelt anon, @lesbiandicegoblin, and another lovely asker (who I tried to look for but could find) who made a gender neutral term for permanent nursery residents called Royalty! I made,,,,a bunch of other jobs/professions for warriors and medicine cats! Plus some unique jobs/subclasses for all the canon clans. Here they are, there's a lot!
Different roles in the clans!
Besides Leader, deputy, medcat, warriors, queens and elders! All cats old enough to serve their clan are considered warriors. Cats can also just simply be a warrior or a medicine cat with no subclass, or they can double up in professions if they so choose. However some subclasses cannot be doubled up (Seer) or are restricted to certain cats (Older cats cannot be Mediators, warriors cannot becomes Seers, Seers cannot become Royalty, etc)
Warrior subclasses found commonly in all clans are: Scouts, Hunters, Wardens, Builders, Lore keepers, Royalty and Mediators!
Scout: Cats who are very fast, usually the first cats out and about in the mornings to scout out hunting spots. Usually the cats who patrol the most and are often in back of battles in case they need to run to camp for reinforcements.
Hunter: Cats who specialize in the art of hunting, doesn't always mean hunting prey. Typically the cats who hunt the most and often work alongside Scouts when leaf-bare rolls around.
Warden: Camp defenders, often referred to as Stone Wardens in riverclan, these cats are typically large and powerful to defend their clanmates in the event of an invasion. Clans will usually have 2 to 4 Wardens, 2 for the camp entrance, 1 for the nursery and 1 for the elders.
Builders: Cats who are very clever and work with plant fibers and other building materials to keep up the dens of their camps. Often also the cats who end up cleaning the camp the most often, typically a job for older cats but many apprentices will also help and use the skills learned in creative ways.
Lorekeeper: The storytellers and historians of the clans. Often considered an elders job, cats of all ages will agree a good story is great for morale. Apart from telling stories these cats are also the keepers of their own personal clan history alongside general history of the clans. These cats are also in charge of teaching the young cats the basic clan history they need.
Royalty: Permanent Queens, Kings and the in betweens of the nursery, these cats are the parents of all the clan's inhabitants. Often another form of retirement for some warriors, the cats who choose to become Royalty over any other professional are revered and respected as the backbone of all clans. Royalty are in charge of the care and raising of any kits and their parents who reside in the nursery. They are also often retired or still active Wardens or Court Medics as well. (Made by Royalty anon, please let me know if you want proper credit I couldn't find you i apologize!)
Mediator: The peace keepers of the clans, these cats are the opposite of canon medicine cats. Picked from an early age as to prevent any biases from forming, Mediators are considered to be from all the clans. Mediators spend their apprenticeship bounced between all professions and all the clans so they have information and experience in all things. These cats are also the least bound by the warrior code, as they are loyal to the clans as a whole. These cats also tend to form half clan relationships and usually are half-clan themselves. Clans typically have 2 mediators at a time, the senior mediator and the apprentice, and the only time when there might be more than 2 is the overlap between a retired mediator and a newly appointed one.
Medicines cat subclasses commonly found in all clans are: Seer, Gardener, Battle Medic and Court Medic.
Seer: The medicine cat who has the strongest connection to StarClan, typically the senior medicine cat but not always. These cats are trained closest to the medicine cat code and usually trained away from camp and their clanmates to sever any familial bonds to stay completely unbiased. These cats have training for omen sightings and medical knowledge, but no training in fighting or hunting in order to stay 'pure' in the eyes of Starclan. Considered to be the only 'true' medicine cat and only subclass that can't be doubled up with other subclasses. (In reference to the GreenRose Au, these are the cats who receive the gift of the 'Spark' from Starclan.)
Gardener: either a regular warrior acting as an assistant or a medicine cat who tends to the art of herb gardening/gathering and the foraging of herbs! These cats can be anyone who takes to the art, or a medicine cat who simply enjoys it more so than their other options. Cats who help out a lot but don't participate in the art of gardening are called Helpful Paws or Healpaws depending on the clan.
Battle Medic: Medicine cats (or assistants) who serve the front lines of battles, often directly participating in the fight healing any injured clanmates or dragging away those who are too injured to continue fighting. These cats are trained in fighting and are only allowed to use this training self defense, of either themselves or their patients. Battle Medics are not allowed to attack other medics or any cat too obviously injured to be fighting. These cats are also called 'Grave Walkers' as they will usually prepare the passing rites of any cat who has fallen in battle, so their spirit can move on peacefully. Warriors who change their profession to medicine cat will usually become a Battle medic. (Idea made/inspired by battle medic!Breezepelt anon @lesbiandicegoblin)
Court Medic: Medicine cats (or assistants) who serve the cats in the nursery. Cats who are expecting or nursing kits will typically have one Royalty and one Court Medic looking after them and their children. These cats treat any of the nursery inhabitants, be it a parent, a kit or Royalty, and excel at the profession, often being as kind and nurturing as a parent themselves. Most cats who are Royalty are usually trained to also be a Court Medic, but may be referred to as either. If a court medic is also a warrior, they are only allowed to perform their Court Medic duties if they have finished their warrior duties for the day or if no other Court Medic is available.
Clan variants and unique subclasses by clan:
Thunderclan:
Brute: Cats who reveal in the art of battle, not as popular a profession as it once was. Slowly being reintroduced to Thunderclan but many cats tend to avoid it as they believed it to be cursed. The Thunderclan equivalent to Windclan's 'Strategist'.
Storm Chasers: A recently introduced job, these cats are trained in the tale tell signs of storms and are to warn their clanmates of potential flooding. Somewhat introduced by Stormfur of Riverclan during his brief stay in Thunderclan, hence the name, it was really only picked up after the first large flood after the battle with the Dark Forest. One of Thunderclan's first Storm Chasers was Briarlight, as she could feel the oncoming storms in her old injuries.
Windclan:
Strategist: Cats who excel in planning, whether it be battle, patrols or life in general. These cats are intelligent and quick thinking, often leading battle patrols from the back to bark out orders to the fighters. Common choices for deputies. The Windclan equivalent of Thunderclan's 'Brute'.
Tunnelers: An old Windclan profession brought back after the discovery of the tunnels underneath Windclan and Thunderclan territory. Mostly used for hunting and travel in harsh weather, Leaders and Mediators agree the tunnels couldn't be used for combat due unstable conditions and for most part that treaty has been upheld by Windclan. New tunnels are slow in the making due to having lost the profession for several seasons but cats are learning and discovering new ways to safely make more tunnels.
Shadowclan:
Moonlight Warrior/Night Stalkers: the Shadowclan equivalent to Skyclan's 'Daylight Warriors'. These are nearly nocturnal cats who serve their clan best at night, sometimes being rogues or kittypets who wish to be a part of the clan but not leave their housefolk behind. These cats have excellent night vision and simply feel all the more comfortable in the chill of night, often performing tasks that warriors or medicine cats couldn't accomplish during the day. Some of these cats will usually opt out of clan gatherings but it's not uncommon for those cats to guard camp while everyone else is away.
Spy/Ambusher: A Shadowclan subclass of scout, these cats are known for their stealth and trickery. They are the deadliest of Shadowclan's warriors and know how to keep a secret, there's no way of telling when a Shadowclan spy is telling the truth or not and thus they tend to be mistreated by cats both inside and outside their clan by sheer paranoia. Most are unbuffered but spies always confined in their leaders about what information and resources they've discovered.
Riverclan:
Bard/Poet: The Riverclan equivalent of Lorekeepers. Singers and songwriters, cats who can string together words that are as smooth as the lake at dawn. These cats are charming and love to spice up the history of the clans with a bit of song, most warriors of Riverclan are also bards or poets but the ones who excel at the profession are known across the clans.
Lake Watchers: Cats who keep an eye on the fish levels in the lake. These cats work alongside side warriors, hunting patrols and deputies to make sure the fish population in the lake never gets too low as to starve the clan. They also keep an eye on the Lake when it storms, they could be considered a Riverclan variation of Thunderclan's 'Storm Chasers'.
Skyclan:
Daylight Warrior/Dawn Walkers: The OG, the bringer of the Daylight Warriors. Typically a kittypet or rogue who wants to join the clan but not leave their housefolk behind. Also warriors who are more active during the day and less active at night. These warriors are unbuffered by the heat and blinding light of the day and are the most useful warriors during the hot summer months, and when they are the kittypet variety of this class they also have the advantage of another source of food as to not worry about any food storages.
Climbers: Cats who specialize in the climbing of trees and other vertical objects. These cats can leap great heights and distances with their powerful back legs, and it is the most common profession in skyclan. While most apprentices are taught the basics of climbing trees, these cats dedicate their lives to honing the craft. You can often spot these cats in trees keeping watch over the clan and their territory and hunting, they also use this method to ambush any intruders.
If you have a any question or are curious about any of them feel free to ask! I had fun coming up with these and I hope you all like them. They're free to use so if want to all you have to do is credit!

In celebration for my post about cat eye colors getting 500+ notes, I made this!
Know several things:
In the process of simplifying and explaining things, I likely made some mistakes. Fellow genetics fans, correct me on anything I did wrong, just don’t be an ass about it.
This doesn’t cover everything about cat genetics because I like my sanity. I left out the silver series, agouti patterns, albinism, and the thousand oddities that break the base rules that are normally confined to specific breeds. This just covered the most common/basic of cat genetics. I probably won’t make any more of these since this is just a masterpost of sorts for basic cat genetics for those who can’t stomach the boring crap.
You can definitely take artistic liberties with the exact hues and shades of colors! I do it myself, so it’d be hypocritical of me to say otherwise. You can totally have a “gray” cat be bluish-gray or greenish-gray or purplish-gray - whatever helps make characters look distinct! Reds themselves can range from a deep rust to a light ginger, and don’t be afraid to throw in hints of other colors into your blacks and whites.
You don’t have to listen to me. If making cats without a care for genetics is what makes you happy, that’s fine. If you’re just using this to see if any of your OCs are plausible and have no intentions to change their designs, that’s fine too. I won’t judge you for it. But if you like what I’ve made and want to learn more about cat genetics, welcome! I and others would be more than happy to inform you of anything you want to know!

Fun headcanon:
There's no such thing as "traditional" warrior names. Instead, naming trends in the Clans go in and out of popularity, much like human names do!
For a couple years leading up to Rusty joining the Clans, and all through "The Prophecies Begin", names emphasizing some physical characteristic were very popular. This is probably, in part, thanks to the rise of leaders with names like Tallstar, Crookedstar, and Raggedstar. This is also why some of the elders chose to change their names to reflect their appearances! Color based names were particularly in style- it was considered simple yet elegant to name a kit after a color.
Plant and animal related names were fashionable through the New Prophecy and Power of Three arcs. Naming kits after their physical appearances became considered uncreative- if you could only list the obvious about your kit, you must not be a very attentive parent...
The Power of Three and Omen of the Stars arcs also saw some movement away from the old, body based suffixes, and a shift towards more abstract names. (ex, LionBLAZE, HoneyFERN, CrowFROST, IvyPOOL, RedWILLOW) With the Clans growing to be larger in size than they had been for a long time, unique and catchy name combos became the go-to to help new warriors stand out from the crowd. (A lot easier to remember a name like Sunstrike of WindClan than Petalfur of RiverClan, right?) This trend started in ThunderClan, as they were the biggest Clan by a long shot, but it spread a bit to the other Clans as well. It caught on best in ShadowClan, while RiverClan and WindClan names remained a bit more old fashioned in general.
For the first half of AVOS was marked by a rise in monosyllabic prefixes. This trend also started in ThunderClan, mostly as a reaction to the flashy suffixes Bramblestar seemed fond of giving his warriors. No one wanted to have a warrior name that was too much of a mouthful to be chanted easily. This trend DID take off in the other Clans as well. It's also worthwhile to note that in RiverClan, it became very popular to give kits prefixes currently in use in one of the other Clans. The other Clans have no idea why it started, but there were some accusations flying around that RiverClan was trying to "steal" prefixes from other Clans, which doesn't make much sense.
Towards the end of AVOS and the beginning of TBC, a new fad of naming a kit something "lively" or "energetic" took off. It wasn't common to name kits this way before, but with the influx of unusual names from SkyClan and the new ShadowClan members Tigerstar II brought back with him, all the Clans suddenly wanted to break away from their old naming conventions a bit. This resulted in prefixes like Snap, Flip, Hop, Pounce, Whistle, Flutter, Splash, etc.
The most "poetic" naming era in Warriors history was a bit before Bluestar's time- Tallstar and Yellowfang were born into this time period, where prefixes could really be whatever as long as they were paired with an exciting, creative suffix. Some of the names considered most beautiful during this time were: Mistmouse, Meadowslip, Sandgorse, Featherstorm, Silverflame, Toadskip, Brightsky, Ottersplash, Mudthorn, Brambleberry, Moonflower...
I was just thinking about this bc of all the debates that happen in the fandom over whether or not the names of characters are good or bad, traditional or cheesy... this was just my way of making a fun explanation for the authors' inconsistency in naming the cats over the course of the series.

Headcanon that Hollytuft suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder and spents most of her days in absolute silence while also struggling with feeling incompetent and living to the imagine of her namesake and aunt the warrior Hollyleaf which her family constantly reminded her of growing up.
Her feelings worse as her littermates grow and end up having families of their own feeling isolated and feeling like she was meant to be important and live to Hollyleaf's image only to nothing more than a average warrior. of her famil.
It takes time time ends up finding confidence and taking pride and joy in her own skills. Before she realizes that before anything else or anyone, she is Hollytuft and it's her life to live and enjoy as simple or as paceful as she wants or needs it.

Headcanon that Alderheart had everyone worried as a kit because he was so small and prone to shaking making everyone think he wasn't going to make it. Which was a serious fear after losing two of his siblings.
His nursery days were composed of being curled up in Squirrelflight's tail while Jayfeather would lean over him forcing him to choke down a bundle of herbs to stregnten him and help him grow bigger and stronger.
Lionblaze and Cinderheart would often visit often distracting Sparkkit or chatting with Jayfeather usually providing with ideas or bringing him the herbs he would demand.
Alderheart was still pretty skinny and gangly coming out of the nursery which made it very surprising when it less than a couple of seasons he practically grew out to twice his size thanks to Bramblestar's genes and a case of a very unfortunate late growth spurt.
Now everyone has to crank their necks to look at their young ginger giant who keeps forgetting his own body proportions so he's especially clumsy his first few seasons and doesn't realize he can come across as intimidating from a distance much to

Headcanon that Skyclan cats in general have a significant dialect and speak with a slang.
For example, cats like Leafstar, Echosong and Tinycloud who are among the older generation tend to speak in a very crisp fast tone with certain emphasis on certain words and vowels. It's less common among the younger generation but Tinycloud's kits speal very heavily and it's common for Skyclan cats " accent" to become heavy when they are angry and emotional.
For example Skyclan cats with says " mawning" instead of morning dropping the hard R word.
They also include alot of general slang like roof, concrete, park, ma'am, and a mixture of human tender terms and insults.

Snippet my TallxJake Fireheart Au.
Tallstar breathed in the air of the camp. After nearly two moons of repairs it was finally started to look like home. Not like before. He doubted that afte the scale emotional and physical damage that had been done the camp and his clanmates would feel the same but now he could sleep with relief rather than numbness.
A kit's laugh made his ear twitch and he looked up to see Fireheart playing with Gorsekit near the nursery. His mother, Morningflower looking content and relaxed.
His heart fluttered.
His son.
He never though he would use that word would not after he grieved seemingly endless nights after Jake's too soon death. Not after catching the weak scent underlying his mate's dead body confirming that his kit was gone.
" He's a good warrior and a great cat. Bluestar is a fool to allow him to be away for this long" murmured Wrenflight, his half-sister licking her paw before swiping it over her ear.
Tallstar's ear twitched in irritation.
Right. Bluestar.
The she-cat had found his lost son and raised him in the Thunderclan nursery and somehow though sheer odds the leader did not cross paths with the now young warrior till now.
A part of him was angry. Surely she must have realized ....but no. Bluestar would never have deemed Tallstar for a code-breaker. She unlike his clanmates did not know about his relationship and the family he willingly chose to gave with kittypet who was Fireheart's other father.
Even more so, Fireheart was a near copy of Jake in his physical appearance and resembled him in his personality than to Tallstar.
No. Tallstar couldn't be angry. Afterall who would believe an old cat that was unattractive by Windclan standards with tunneler looks that were no longer worthlike pursuing like him would have sired the handsome ginger tabby.
" Father?"
Tallstar jumped in surpise to see Fireheart looking at him with a concerned look, Gorsekit entertaining himself by gnawing at the ginger tabby's tail.
Tallstar shuffled his paws and cleared his throat embarrassed at being caught in his brooding thoughts.
" Yes, son?" he said not resisting the urge to use the word in return.
Fireheart looked down embarrassed.
" Would you like to go on patrol together later today? I don't know much of the territory and I know I lag behind the others" he said sheepishly.
Tallstar's chest swelled with pride.
" Of course! I've been meaning to show you the Windclan territory properly" he said
* It's your birthright* he added in his mind
Fireheart's eyes gleamed brightly and he dipped his head respectfully before walking out, Gorsekit tumbling behind him.
" I still don't understand why don't take him back from Thunderclan. Windclan is his home, you are his father and he shares more connections here than he realizes" presses Wrenflight shaking her head.
Tallstar shook his head trying and failing not to get mad.
" I will not force my son to choose between the clan that raised him his entire life and myself and the clan I lead. I did not force that choice on Jake and neither will I do on our son. Whatever choice Fireheart makes will be his decisions and I will love him regardless, I already thought I lost him forever once, I don't need that again"
They sit by watching sun set across the horizon and Wrenflight affectionately nuzzles him in her sisterly fashion of rubbing against his ears too hard.
" You're going to be a great father. I know you are scared because he's older and you've lost so much time but trust me the bond never wavers and you already care and love him so much" purred Wrenflight.
Tallstar purred back his body relaxing.
" Thanks Wrenflight"

Headcanon that Rosepetal has a reputation over all five clans as a highly skilled and excellent mentor after training five apprentices.
Since most only get one or two if they are lucky, Rosepetal is admired and seen with interested looks each time her name and new apprentice get called out at the gathering.
Her experience, has made so now that other Thunderclan mentors will come to her for advice on how to teach and work with their apprentices and in Gatherings on occasion some cats will ask for advice with difficult or their first apprentice asking her to share her experience.

Headcanon that Flywhisker has ADHD.
She's Lionblaze's daughter and therefore Ashfoot's granddaughter who is a direct descendant of Wind Runner and Moth Flight who canonly had ADHD.
She struggled so much to learn as apprentice and Twigbranch's fustration didn't make her feel better about herself. Although overtime Twigbranch learned to a better mentor in the book by being more paws on and taking Flypaw into different parts to the forest I think that Flypaw struggled to keep up and was worried as her littermates started to surpass her while she struggled to keep on task.
I like to think that Flypaw is her young and in a moment of emotional impulsiveness sneaked out at night to the Moonpool hoping for responses from Starclan because she feared what place would she have if she couldn't keep up even among her own peers when she was seemingly young and and physically healthy.
She falls asleep at the edge of the moonpool and wakes up into the peering eyes of Moth Flight who blinks happily at her.
" Who are you?" Flypaw asks
" Your ancestor, from long ago when the clans were barely created and like you I too shared the same struggles and my own clan dismissing me because they couldn't see through my mind and eyes" replies Moth Flight.

Headcanon that Whitewater of Shadowclan is the reincarnation of One-eye/White-eye of Thunderclan.
Both she-cats are white with one blind eye and Whitewater appears suddenly in Shadowclan with neither kin nor a mentor.
My personal theory One-eye was devastated after watched her forest die and so many of the cats of her clan force to uproot and start again.
Determined, she like Cinderpelt chose to be reincarnated and was reborn as a white kit with a blind white eye, because White-eye was happy as a warrior and she took both of her names with pride and kept her eye in Starclan just as in her other life.
She's reborn as stray who feels the impulse and desire to go into the deep wild from the moment she opens her eyes. She wanders for many moons and eventually stumbles unto the Lake, into a Shadowclan patrol giving them a scare at seeing a she-cat climb out the lake with a fierce expression determined to fight and prove herself.
She asks Blackstar to join the clan saying that she'll do anything to prove her worth.
Blackstar accepts this and after a short training period grants her the name Whitewater, to forever keep in mind how she swam across the lake to arrive at the clans and become a clan cat.

Headcanon that because Willowshine is the daughter of Mosspelt ( Riverclan foster mother of Stormfur and Feathertail)
She's secretly thinks that the interclan romance and kit law is a bunch of mouse dung that should have never existed.
Hearing her mother speak about Graystripe and how he was haunted by the death of Silverstream and how he was treated as outcast by his birthclan and never truly fit in with Riverclan stayed with her.
She never forgot the stories or the horror.
How there was first doubts that Silverstream would be buried in clan territory after the previous kits born out of interclan had been buried out and their mother cast out that same day.
How Crookedstar's mate and Mistystar's foster mother were kitnapped by their Windclan father and their mother mourned for moons until they were brought back.
How Stonefur was executed due to being half-clan and Leopardstar had allowed it back in the forest.
As such Willowshine holds her furious opinion tightly to her chest.
She refused to treat Jayfeather, Hollyleaf or Lionblaze any different when it was revealed they were half-clan.
And felt pity and sympathetic for Leafpool knowing that while she shouldn't have broken the vow she did not deserve ro be stripped of the title she worked moons to earn for a mistake she made very early as medicine cat.
When Beechfur found out Gorsetail lf Windclan was expecting his kits he blurted it out to newly titled Willowshine out of anxiousness.
Who told him to talk to Gorsetail and discuss it among themselves saying it was only a parent's and mate business when it came to raising their kits and promising that unless he wished differently what he said to her in the medicine den stayed in the medicine den.

Rootpaw is a dramatic disaster bi you can't change my mind.
He believes in everything he was raised in absolution even if his father disagrees he only disputes with his father because Rootpaw loves Clan life and his home.
Of course this equals to his crushes. Bristlefrost saves his life and he immediately swoons and starts to compare how much of an awesome and wise warrior she is compared to his peers and father and literally somehow convinces his leader to bring food for Bristlefrost to their territory which would probably be the first example of a warrior/apprentice making an offering from one's own territory to another for food as a gift.
Even though he realizes how hypocritial and terrible it is to be a interclan romance he still finds himself rooting and being at her side at the moonpool even when his entire family leaves and he himself has doubts because he's so ride and die.
But pffft. That doesn't stop there.
He meets Shadowpaw and instantly there's a connection between feeling and being perceived as outsiders in their clan. Shadowpaw tends to his thorn and wounded paw and for literally the rest of the book Rootpaw instantly thinks how wonderful and what an amazing medicine cat Shadowpaw will be and how the rest of the book Rootpaw is literally mentally defending and frowning at how everyone doubts and views Shadowpaw and his visions, keep in mind he's literally only met Shadowpaw * once*
He's so ride and die ove the people he likes and cares about it's annoyingly charming like the rest of him.

Headcanon that all cats who have trained or been to the Dark Forest " change" the more time they spent there.
They develop the ability to come in to the dark forest at will and they recognize and walk the " paths" that similar to how one would travel the dirt paths in the rural areas created overtime.
Their eyes become sensitive and they can see dark forest cats and ghosts after many many moons often gaining a slight paleness or brightness.
They have the ability to " sense" other dark forest trainees. The way the way, the way they way their eyes reflect back and how when they walk past them their fur will stand back on end.
The longer you train, the more these abilites stay with you.
The first time you enter in the Dark Forest, for most cats when they are aware they feel cold and a crushing sensation in their brain along with all senses being both overwhelmed and closed off as they adjust to the new world.
However it's easy to adjust and like a pool of cold water soon it becomes nice and easy to slip in and out until the outside temperature becomes more uncomfortable. Some cats soon started to prefer the atmosphere of the Dark Forest ( Thornclaw, Breezepelt, Hollowflight, Beetlewhisker,) than they did when they were awake with their clan.
Ivypool has not been been a trainee for seasons but her eyes can still feel and find the "path" to the Dark forest which was once so easy to slink into she barely reacted. Moons after the battle she realized how disturbing it was how comforting and familiar it became and started to suffer from insomia.
Bristlekit, Thriftkit, and Flipkit had to sleep with their father in the nursery since birth since Ivypool was often restless and would spent much of the early night hours outside.
Tiger(heart)star often finds himself drifting to end of the Dark Forest in his sleep only to jolt himself awake and pace back and forth. Dovewing who knows this after moons and moons of nesting with Ivypool had lined their nest with soothing herbs scents and grooms him everytime reminding him that he's here in Shadowclan where everyone is safe, sleeping and starts counting off every clanmate which soothes him back to sleep.
