Vegan black bean burger from Ethos Vegan Kitchen in Winter Park. I couldn’t finish it. It was even a little greasy like a burger should be. Tee hee.... ^_^ Enormous portions. Delicious and FRESH! <3 I shall return.

Cured by the D.R !
^This was my face yesterday.
Taste of India was closed.
Thai Thai was closed.
El Ambia Cubano was closed.
All these delicious, exotic restaurants have one thing in common.
They all close everyday from 2:30 to 4pm, because APPARENTLY nobody is hungry during those hours. They re-open at 4 for dinner.... but my best friend Angie and I were far too peckish... and I was far too irate to wait until 4. It was hot, and all my feathers were raised.

^ “The EFF ya’ll mean ya’ll closed??!?”
We set out to find a sushi spot, when in passing Angie pointed out this place:

The name of this grocery store always threw me off, so I never bothered to go in. When I think thrift, I think of musty smelling thrift stores where I can occasionally find a neat second hand treasure or two. I know that in the case of thrifty produce they mean “inexpensive produce.” Still. I just don’t like the name.
WELL, as it turns out, they not only carry inexpensive produce and meat...There is also a Dominican style hot bar and BAKERY inside. This I did not know!
Upon entering the store and fixing my gaze upon the hot bar, tears of joy began to stream down my face.
I mean.
Wow.
There’s really a lot to choose from, and it all looked super good.
So, I got this:

Yellow rice with red beans, tostones and stewed chicken. Tasted homemade and delicious. Especially the chicken! As you can see, they do not hold off on portions. ;)
And this:

A super adorbz Tres Leches cake. Divine. YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT CAKE. And this one was perfect.
Angie got this:

Clearly she wasn’t as hungry as me. lol. On the left is a desert called Flancocho...which is a mix of Flan and cake bathing in a delicious syrup. She also got yellow rice and red beans. BUT THAT PORK, ‘THO. Super tender. Very good. I know because I made her share with me. :D
Oh! And we split this!

This is a “Watermelon Quench.” YAS. This fabulous little bar also offers a menu of fresh squeezed juices. Upon our order, a lovely lady who was waiting juiced some watermelon slices and added a lil’ sweetener. The result was this delightfully refreshing beverage that I realllly want to have again.
As it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise that all my favorite restaurants were closed. I got to add a new favorite to my list. What a great little hidden gem! Go support this place so we don’t lose it! Thrifty Produce is located where Albertsons used to be. You’ll find it in the plaza on Wickham and Lake Washington. The hot bar offers a great variety of choices, even burritos! Best of all, it won’t drain your wallet. Very affordable. I will be back!
See you next time! Until then, do what you love with who you love.

And then later I went with the fam to Thai Thai. Got myself a Super Crunch Roll. Tempura sushi with eel, krab, cream cheese and eel sauce. That’s some phenomenal chicken fried rice posted in the background. ^_^

SALUTATIONS, LOVERS of Life!
My name is Kristen. I’m a mommy, and a musician.

I just turned the big 29, and I am not afraid! ^_^ I just realize more than ever that we have no time not to enjoy our lives, no matter what age we are!
I am a stage 5 food enthusiast.
I am also a huge advocate for self expression and individuality.
So here’s what’s going to happen....
Along with written entries about food, I’m going to sit down to eat with some amazing artists, and document it on film. The interviews will be posted here once a month starting in June. ^_^
Today I’d like to share with you what I’ve been eating during this very fine Birthday week of mine. ;)

This delectable confection is my Birthday cake. It’s a southern thang. Coca Cola cake is a very rich, decadent chocolate cake infused with coca cola. The chocolate ganache is infused with coca cola as well. Phenomenal. Love you, mom. <3

Went food truckin’ with my sis. This is a new tradition of mine.

First we stopped at a truck called “Curbies.” They offer unique entrees that represent various regions of the U.S. These are Lamb “Lollipops” with mint sauce and natural cut fries. The fries were bomb. The “lollipops” were nice.... particularly the sauce. BUT NOTHING WE HAD TASTED AS GOOD AS THIS:

^This is a professional picture. We did not take this. Good picture, though. Very effective. Ours looked like this:

LAMB BURGER: Lamb Burger cooked medium with spicy tomato jam, feta cheese compote, pico de gallo, piri-piri & apple ginger BBQ sauces, served on Portuguese roll.
Piri piri is Swahili for “Pepper pepper.” It’s hot sauce. I had never heard of Piri Piri before. Didn't matter. I just ate it. I don’t need elaborate descriptions if the food looks good. lol
We purchased this gem of a burger from the award winning BEM BOM food truck that specializes in PORTUGUESE cuisine.
Wait, wat?!

Portuguese food!? In Melbourne?!
We are moving on up. Wickham park hosts food truck events at least once a month. The next one is June 26th at 6pm. There are different trucks every time.
Oh what a joy to be introduced to new and delicious food. I love Portuguese food so far, and I will be hitting them up again.
See you next time. Until then, do what you love with who you love!
