Comfortable Shoes for Femmes
As a femme lesbian, I love feminine clothing but also appreciate comfort, especially in a job that requires me to be on my feet every day. Dressing feminine should not require a loss in comfort, so here are some recommendations.
Ballet flats: a classic and always chic. As a ballet dancer these are my go to shoes. First, make sure that you don’t have “toe cleavage”. It doesn’t look very good and is a good indication that it’s not a good shoe for you. Second, a common problem I’ve faced with these is the fact that the back of the shoe will sometimes get messed up and go under my heel. If you have this issue, I recommend buying ballet flats with straps. They look like a pointe shoe that’s been laced up, and provide more support and keep the heel from being ruined.
Riding boots: a go to choice for the fall and winter. Another classic piece I recommend buying in brown or black. These look good with a variety of outfits, from skinny jeans to a nice dress. Flat boots are especially popular at the moment and look much better in my opinion.
White sneakers: as much as I adore the neon/colorful sneakers that are popular at the moment, I find them impractical. I have trouble finding outfits for working out that will match the shoes I bought. My go to sneakers are now my old white cheerleading shoes, and they can be worn with more than just your workout clothes. They’re practical, chic, and will likely stay popular for years to come.
Cowboy boots: I’m a Texas gal, so feel free to roll your eyes and ignore if you’re not from the south or the country. I have three pairs and wear them everywhere: my old boots that are less expensive if I need to go out to the ranch or do some work outdoors, my chic black ones with little detail that go with almost anything, and my embroidered brown ones that are sure to get a compliment. If you’re thinking about buying cowboy boots for the first time, go with brown. They’re more of a classic and worn more often where I live. Or if you’re in the city and need something that would work with a more NYC look, buy some black ones. They also come in shorter styles that may be more popular. They’re very comfortable, but be sure to wear thick socks.
