Inej from Six of Crows. Such a great character. I’m halfway through Shadow and Bone on Netflix, trying not to burn through all the episodes at once.

There is actually freedom in being able to say that, as a white person, I am not enough. I don’t see the big picture and I don’t have to offer my opinion on everything. I can be one aspect of a larger world and that actually comes as a huge relief because we are only human. In trying to be everything, the only voice in the room, we have lost our identities. I can see now, I have had this paternalistic attitude towards people of colour. I have been in denial about it, thinking I have learned more than my parents or grandparents about how to ‘not be racist’ but it exists in my subconscious.
Whiteness can only be redeemed if we pull back and let others speak. Who were my ancestors before they were colonisers or empire builders? What traditions did they have in small English and Welsh villages when their focus wasn’t on expansion? What made them human? We lost ourselves somewhere along the line and it isn’t a tragedy or something black people have to be burdened with. We have an opportunity to do some introspection and I think that is good for us and for others.
White people: if you want to help long term: get used to being told your opinion is wrong, irrelevant, or unwanted. Tell your friends to get used to it. Work on getting used to it and do this work with other white people. Because white supremacy has all of y’all very used  to being right and being an inherently valued voice and if we’re going to fight white supremacy you’re going to have to be comfortable surrendering that expectation and also white people will need to learn how to handle being rejected or disagreed with. It’s an extension of racism and racial trauma for black people to try and educate or speak up about our issues only to expose ourselves to your white fragility which  makes you defensive– this defensiveness can look like shutting down, silencing us, painting all corrections or disagreements as ‘fighs’ (extending the idea that black people are aggressive) etc.
White resilience is the opposite of white fragility and black people are VERY good at resilience, unfortunately. Listen to us we know how to combat this.

Last week was Star Wars week and it was Mother’s Day (week) so I had to do something but it is only ready now. I need these women and their virtues at this time for inspiration. They are not the only Star Wars mothers (I want to include Shmi) but they are all connected. So I present Leia and her 2 moms.
I’d considered giving Padmé a blaster or have her piloting something but this costume had such clever allusions to the Rebellion, it worked for her being the symbolic mother of the Rebellion and birth mother to the major players within it. Cat Taber also mentioned her word for this character is grace, not only to describe the way she carries herself but in her treatment of others.
Breha needs to make more appearances in canon. I loved her in Princess of Alderaan. She has such wry humour and a special relationship with her daughter. A great example of how you don’t need to be a blood relative to be an awesome mom. This outfit is based on her flashback appearance in the Leia comic. She was not only queen but also minister of education and the arts on Alderaan. I wanted to enhance my impression of her being the Frida Kahlo of Star Wars.
Finally, I can appreciate Rise of Skywalker for one thing, young Leia undergoing Jedi training. Leia can be just as theatrical as the rest of her family; I love her architectural, stately dark robes in the sequels but she is also the most pragmatic member of her family. Her gas station attendant (as Carrie might say) jedi uniform is very Leia. It contrasts nicely with her more cultured and dramatic side, seen in her fabulous art deco lightsaber. She put a lot of thought into crafting that hilt. Leia never stopped using the force, she defined it on her own terms, much like Ahsoka and Maz. She’s also not only a mom to Ben but virtually all the kids in the Resistance.

The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Leia Organa designs, art by Robert Rowley, Jock, and Tonči Zonjić.
“I wanted Carrie to look fabulous again. So let’s do dramatic lines. Let’s do gorgeous coats. One of the few specific visual ideas I gave was that big Blade Runner-like coat with the huge collar that blocked the bottom half of her face. I didn’t want her to have to be buttoned-down and practical. I wanted her to look badass.” - Rian Johnson.

everyone please turn off ‘best stuff first’ in your settings on tumblr so you can support your content creators!
having best stuff first makes it so a lot of content creators’ edits and gifs get buried by other posts, so if you want to see your dashboard in… you know… chronological order (still don’t understand why social media keeps thinking we want anything but that) make sure you go:
settings > global settings > dashboard preferences > turn ‘best stuff first’ off.

My favorite part of the trailer.  Not that I want Leia in danger, I just like seeing her son feeling conflicted over her because he knows deep down that she deserves better. Practically all of the other young heroes want Leia as their space mom. I feel like they wouldn’t put this in the trailer if this was the end for the character so it is probably misleading. Kylo can murder his dad but I don’t know if he can even kill his mom from a distance, let alone face to face. Also, Adam Driver does actually look something like Carrie and Harrison, despite my initial misgivings. Ben has his mother’s eyes and complexion.

lawful good: organized layer folders, each folder has a name, all of the layers have names, finished layers are locked
neutral good: names all the layers and locks them but doesn’t do folders
chaotic good: names all the layers but doesn’t lock em and doesn’t do folders
lawful neutral: layers and folders still have ther default numbers, no names
true neutral: no folders and all default numbers. no names. no locks.
chaotic neutral: sometimes uses names. sometimes doesnt. sometimes theres folders. sometimes theres not.
lawful evil: does everything in one layer
neutral evil: merges all layers as they finish them
chaotic evil: a million blank layers with nothing on any of them

4 types of star wars fans
Type 1: memes the shit out of prequels, probably thinks rey is overrated, worships darth vader or han solo
Type 2: worships kylo ren/ ben solo, overuses the word “redemption” , uses rey as a self-insert, watched tfa all wrong
Type 3: finn/poe/rose/jessika pava stan, gay and/or woke as fuck, hates hux with a passion, finnpoe or finnrey endgame
Type 4: weird mixture of 1 and 3 who actually analyzes the movie after, probably watches clone wars or rebels and probably stans obi-wan, leia, darth maul, or ahsoka tano
