Yeah, you see a snivelling sniffing mess amidst the crowd and you think flu season? Hahha no. Life of a hyperallergic student is a cycle of constant rummaging for tissues, immense guilt for disrupting the peace everywhere you go..the sterile Operation Theatre to the quiet library and wondering how many itches can be tended to at once. Not to mention the special appearance pre-sneeze face (mostly only when your crush is around) which stays for what feels like eternity while everyone watches in disgust. Then follows the trumpet like nose-blowing session. Can’t get a guy to flutter an eyelash with a cute top, but take a hanky and blow all the phlegm out and lo- 15 guys stop and stare at the ruckus. And sorry kind stranger, you said “Bless You” for the first 3 sneezes and then just realised you’d be held up all day…and I acknowledge it with a nod from behind an elephant sized hanky. Thank you. A new perfume, a fresh orange peel, the sun, hell even cold air can set off a bout of sea lion-like sneezes and reduce one to a soppy mass of red eyes and rash. 😧 So basically, I regret the inconvenience caused by my hyper-reactive body. It’s not much fun being bleary eyed and congested all through spring. Be nice. Hand us a tissue. And quit glaring. Sneeze and let sneeze.
