There's also probably a little soupcon of ableism about it all because gentle reminder that any kind of glasses or vision-altering device which is used to improve eyesight is in fact a diability aid and people who have less than perfect vision are disabled in the most traditional sense of having a characteristic about themselves that must be addressed in order to participate in and interact with society to the same degree and in the same way as the majority.

Only it's not a minority of people who wear glasses. Nearly everyone's eyesight goes at the end to the degree that they need glasses or some other aid to interact with visual media and interact with the world safely.

Disability politics are everyone's business and should be on everyone's mind because we all end up disabled eventually.

can we talk about how literally 64% of people wear glasses, and yet we NEVER see them in movies/tv unless it's on some nerdy or uncool character? why do we adhere to such a weird beauty standard that subconsciously makes us feel bad for,, not being able to see???

Quick reminder that republicans and neocorpofacists like Trump don't actually NOT want to explore space they just want to privatize it so they can profit off of what they find and keep all the money for themselves. They will stripmine Mars if they find valuable minerals there and not give two shits about it, or about the scientific progress or discovery they're destroying in the process.

Same with defunding the NOAA. It's not about not caring about the weather, it's about creating a vacuum that capitalists can move into to create more profit opportunities.

The White House wants to slash NASA's budget and workforce and cancel a number of high-profile missions next year, newly released documents reveal. On May 2, the Trump administration released its 2026 "skinny budget" request, a broad summary of its funding plans for the coming fiscal year. That document proposed cutting NASA funding by nearly 25%, from $24.8 billion to $18.8 billion, with much of the reduction coming from the agency's science programs. On Friday afternoon (May 31), the White House published a more detailed version of the 2026 budget request, which shone more light on the administration's aims and the potential effects on NASA, its people and its mission portfolio.
