He didn't ask for help, he didn't say anything, he didn't even talk. He stared at the wall, he felt his body slowly starting to feel dense and heavy and too much. He was trying to make this pass quickly so no one would notice. He was trying to get out of bed but the sheets were holding him hostage, the daylight was too bright, the world around him was too alive and he was in this weird limbo where he wasn't even sure if he existed. He stayed there, scared but quiet and still. Ian felt like a chore, like a responsibility, like too much weight in someone's shoulders so he kept quiet and still. But then something moved in the other side of the bed, then a kiss in his shoulder, a hand that decided to stay there and a whisper "You're not a chore" Mickey said softly, like the mind reader he was "you're my husband and I promised to love you and take care of you in sickness and health, so here i am loving you and taking care of you in sickness"

lip and ian / frank and monica

i have so many feelings about them- specifically in 7x08. that episode was very ian and lip, and i think the best part of that episode was this still of ian’s face after lip grabs him and screams at him

his face here is barely visible but it’s so telling. he’s breathing heavily and in shock and overall just seems almost scared. and like, i get it, i would react the same way because who wouldn’t, but something about the way he looks at lip reminds me of this

and i just know that he saw a little bit of frank in lip when he did that. maybe he thought of the story lip told about frank being sober when they were 9 & 10 and then going back to being a drunk, maybe for a second he just associated that with lip.

and not like this was purposeful (or was it?) but ian’s literally wearing the same shirt just in a different color.

lip isn’t frank, just like how ian isn’t monica. they both know this, but still the way they look at their parents vs at each other is similar.

or take lip’s monologue about ian from season six for example,

“you know, he thinks… being bipolar means he’s doomed to be a piece of shit like our mother. maybe it’s true.” “maybe it’s not.”

and just the whole dummy & alcoholic gene thing from season 1 made it so clear that something would happen to both of them.

and the fact that ian is always told he looks like monica and lip is always told he looks like frank, it’s just soul crushing.

and they both date people like their parents. ian dates older guys to fill the void frank created. lip dates unstable (usually blonde) women to fill the void monica created.

in ways, they are like their parents.

both frank and lip were academically smart, both of them were poor but had promising futures, and both of them are attracted to craziness/crazy women. (plus they’re alcoholics).

both monica and ian are caring people. they both have been used by people, specifically used in a sexual way. they’re both queer. (and they’re both mentally ill).

but the similarity between the two brothers is that they want recovery. they don’t want to be like their parents. ian wants his stability back. lip wants his sobriety back. monica was unmedicated, frank was beyond repair, but lip and ian wanted to change and they didn’t want the lives that frank and monica lived.

headcanon thoughts

one of my fav little details to imagine/things included in fic is how full mickey's heart is knowing how loved ian is...

like seeing ian interact with his family (especially debbie, carl, and liam) definitely makes mickey smile. like when he came back in season 4 and debbie and carl were all excited to see him, and he was cracking jokes with them and making them laugh. i just know that mickey looks on with a full heart, seeing just how loved he is.

imagining later in life, when mickey comes back, he feels the same way. he watches on as ian and carl wrestle in the living room and then crash on the couch in a burst of laughter. he watches as debbie and ian crack jokes about needing support groups specifically for red-headed, gay middle children and then start bickering with each other about which one of them is more fucked up. he'll sit back and watch as ian has liam lifted over his head, spinning all around the room while liam falls into a fit of laughter.

and when ian is having a depressive episode, his heart warms as they each keep an eye on him, going in to talk to/check on him a couple times a day. they'll tell them about their day, debbie will bring franny in to give him the pictures she drew for her uncle ian. carl will go on and on about what kind of sick-cop chase he got to do that day, or if he was merely a Meter Monkey that day, he'll still tell ian about it. liam will come in and tell ian about school, showing him the good grades he got on the spelling test ian helped him study for. he'll bring him a pb&j and leave it on the nightstand, because a pb&j always makes him feel better when he's down.

mickey is completely warmed by how much love ian has in his life, and how much his little siblings absolutely adore him. the way he is with his family is one of mickey's favorite things about him <3

Another week another @galladrabbles! this week's prompt by @thisdivorce. "Love is insane, you feel like you're always subtly asking "do you still love me even though I'm flawed" and the answer keeps being yes."-gayassnatural. So maybe mine isn't him SUBTLY asking... Lolol

"Would you love me if I was a worm?"

"A what?"

"A worm, Mickey." Ian wiggles to demonstrate.

"Why are you asking stupid fucking questions?" Mickey puts a hand on his hip and looks at his husband on the couch, swiping up on his phone. "Is this another one of those tiktok things? You're gonna be disappointed and comment about how your husband said no?"

Ian looks up. Sees the raised black brows. "No…" 

Mickey sighs dramatically.

"Fine! I'd love you as a worm. I'd keep you in a damn tank and feed you dirt. You happy?"

Ian beams. "Yes."

I can’t help but to imagine a super pregnant Ian fucking the brains out of Mickey, then suddenly getting thrashed down onto the mattress like a bloated rag doll, because Mickey wants to flip things around. After having a few unpleasant experiences in the past, Ian doesn’t enjoy bottoming too much, and instantly tenses up as Mickey kneels over him. Last time he let him be on top, they were both drunk out of their minds… and their night of intoxicated sex resulted in him having a sore ass for days, and their unplanned pregnancy… so, naturally, he doesn’t want to lay down. Frozen in place by his silent panic, all that he can do is sit there — giving that petrified look — and wait for Mickey to come to his senses again… so that they can both have a satisfying finish, without him having to feel as though he’s been violated.
