The firebender looks down, hating how Asami winced cause of her arm. “I love you Asami..you do anything for love.” Mei mumbles and then stands. “I...I just...i hurt hearing how everyone thought I was dead...without a fight?”

Mei sighs softly as she comes up to Asami's place. It had been a very long while since she had seen the nonbender, having taken off in order to get Xen Fu to follow. The girl hesitates before knocking a few times, her mind racing as she waited.

The door opens, revealing Mako and Bolin’s grandma. “Oh my, you appear to be a nice girl. You must be looking for Asami. She lives in the city now, she has an apartment there”, she says. “You might find her where the city is being expanded.”

“I was talking to myself.” Mei was looking at the table. “Please be honest with me. Don’t lie just to protect my feelings.” She says and looks to her. “Do you love Korra too? Like you love me?”

She eventually goes into the apartment, not noticing Asami. The firebender goes into the kitchen and sits at the table as her thoughts race around her head. “You did this to yourself.” Mei mumbles.

Mei stops outside of Asami’s apartment, looking at the door. She looks down and just sits outside, closing her eyes. The firebender hated admitting how much it hurt her to find out that Korra and Asami slept together when she was gone. But what did she expect? She hadn’t been there.

“He had no spirit connections. He was just a damn earthbender who had dirty tricks when it came to fighting.” Mei then looks away as her eyes began to water. She bit her lip hard when she wanted to speak again, but she forces herself to keep quiet. Maybe I should’ve just stayed gone...

The firebender then shakes her head and walks away.

Everyone came to the conclusion that I was dead and yet, the one person who could talk to spirits didn’t even try to see if she could talk to me?” Anger was beginning to take over as she kept talking.

Mei quickly turns to Korra. “Is she okay?” The firebender knew that had been her fault, having snapped at the nonbender. Talking to Korra was the last thing that she honestly wanted to do. “I’ll be fine standing.”

The firebender looks down and just holds herself. It bothered her more that everyone thought she had died. She understood that she should’ve left a note, but they all knew she was capable of handling herself, that she wouldn’t have been taken down so easily. It drained her when each one of her friends told her they had thought she wasn’t alive. 

The next day, Mei went to the fountain where she first met Asami, sitting there and staring at the water. Her body tenses when she sees Korra out of the corner of her eyes, standing up quickly to leave.

Mei ended up drinking her weight in alcohol, her face flushed as the party began to come to an end. The firebender carefully stands as she tried to get her vision in focus, but she just laughs to herself. “It was...sonice...to see you alls...” She manages to say. “Especiially...you.” The girl had pointed to Korra. “Thanks...for taking care of Asamis...I shure as hell couldn’t do its.” Mei then leaves the room, going into the guest room that the apartment had.

Days later, everyone was gathered, mostly to celebrate Mei being back. Mei watched as everyone talked, watching as Korra went over to Asami. She looks down at the drink in her hand, just nodding somewhat as Bolin told a story from work.

The firebender returns later, raising a brow. She goes and sits across from him, holding out some food. “Want some?”

“So you’re just gonna give up?” She places the money on the ground next to him. “Fine, use it at your own will.” Mei then walks away to go and get herself some food.

“It was the enemy probably who you identified...” Mei frowns. “Some waterbender’s found me and luckily for me they knew how to heal.” She looks to herself. “It took forever to get to how I am...so many sessions, so much pain. There are so many burn scars on me...”

Korra basked in shadows of her home feeling defeated by all that had happened. It had been years since Mei was taken from her, killed in an explosion, it had been a challenge to continue on protecting the world with the light gone from her life. Suddenly she heard movement behind her, the Avatar was about attack the intruder when the person she expected the least was in front of her "MEI!"

“KORRA!” Mei smiles widely and then hugs her tightly. “Sorry…I didn’t mean to scare you.” She says and then pulls away to look at the Avatar. “I…I’m so sorry I couldn’t show myself sooner…” The firebender frowns. “ I had to recover from my injuries…the explosion hurt me pretty bad.”
