I’m a teacher assistant for spanish grammar and the professor was explaining epícenos (single gendered words that encompass masculine and feminine beings) and he was using iguana as an example and he said: “there is only one gender… iguana” and i had to mute my microphone

I didn't put much thought into Cinco de Mayo this year, but I was kinda thinking about how I didn't realize that it *is* significant as a holiday, just not in the way that people expect it to me.

Like, I would hope most people know better than to erroneously call it Mexican Independance Day, so that's not what this is about, but specifically the history of it in California and how if was seen as a sign of hope of civil rights, and in the mid 20th century as iconic for Chicano rights

Happy Cinco de Mayo. Remember that it is not Mexican Independence Day, but rather the victory against the French in the battle of Puebla.

It has a lot of history in the US because it was both a symbol of resistance during the Mexican-American War and also symbolic during the mid century chicano movement.

Magic carpet is so important if he wasn't there straight up Aladdin would've died horrible deaths multiple times. He is also so cute and funny. He expresses so much emotion through just body language, he's such a sweet silly lil guy extra picture below cut

I remember seeing so many people making their own interpretations of all their favorite characters and I was just in awe of all the creativity, it’s amazing! I just decided if everyone can do that, why can’t I make two different things I love, my culture and Sailor Moon, into one? It just felt like the perfect idea, especially in this political climate, to introduce people who are not familiar with Mexican culture to see how beautiful it is.

I used an old Folklorico dress as reference and looked up many “how to” videos but I also researched many dresses from various places in Mexico. I decided to not use as much fabric as a traditional dress even with that decision my skirt used over 12 yards of fabric! The hardest part was figuring out how to implement Usagi’s accessories, like what can stay the same or what needed to be redesigned in Folklorico style. I also had Sailor Moon playing in the background as I was working and I like to think that helped a lot as I worked.

Currently watching both the Good Place and Star Trek Lower Decks

I’m only a few eps into the latter and it’s kinda funny bc I haven’t seen any piece of Star Trek media prior, but I haven’t seen watched Community, so I’m like “that’s the Dreamatorium!” I knew it was a Star Trek reference but still lol
