Okay, I’ve noticed something in this last watch-through of the movies.

So the first time En Saba Nur meets Charles and hijacks his powers, Charles is overwhelmed and struggles to communicate with Hank and Alex. He’s never been invaded like this before, and this mind is so old, so powerful, he’s caught up in a swell he didn’t see coming.

The second time?

The second time, Charles has learned. He stays mindful and wary when kidnapped, and he stays aware to project the message that En Sabah Nur directs as he expands his powers. He’s able to slip in a telepaths secret message, right under Nur’s nose. He has a modicum of control, and he makes a power move in the quiet ways of subtle defiance. Three words changed, and his rebellion is complete. “And to those with the greatest power, protect those without.”

The third time, he’s gone down twice.

He strikes the first blows and establishes a foothold. He occupies Nur’s focus, makes him fight for dominance in his own skull, just like he had previously done to Charles. It’s a battle of wills, and a weary Charles does go down.

He doesn’t win, not by himself, because he’s worn down and lessons learned aren’t the magic trick to success.

But that’s okay. Charles has friends with him.

But Charles has backup, and that’s is another lesson he learned a long time ago; have friends on your side who can rally when you’ve been struck down. And that’s how they win the day.

“You are alone, and I am not.”

But Charles’ arc here has been all learning, absorbing lessons. This isn’t the height of his power yet, there is work to be done, but every time Charles learns a little more. And Charles is not afraid of learning new things.

look up recipes (especially snack recipes) that are child/toddler/baby-friendly

i can guarantee there is a woman with a cooking blog out there who has found away to pack a bunch of vegetables into a surprisingly delicious little snack for her kids. this process has never failed me when i feel like i am not eating enough fruits and veggies. my entire flat is eating spinach muffins at the moment, which doesn’t sounding particularly appealing to most people and yet somehow. they’re delicious.
