Dragon Logic

Honestly I think this makes perfect sense.

I'm noticing something interesting about Swordfish, and what I noticed seems to tie into the recent lore you've revealed about Avoryx and what she believes Hopper is going to end up doing someday. (The whole eating all her friends and terrorizing the countryside thing.)

It seems plain to me that Swordfish doesn't value material things, and instead is fascinated with the living, breathing creatures of the world. Hopper contrasts by loving all things associated with being a 'true' dragon such as material wealth and magical artifacts. All I've done thus far is state the obvious, but here's my actual point:

Could Swordfish's destiny be to right the wrong that is Avoryx's legacy of avarice, murder, and cruelty, by showing Hopper (even if Swordfish's curiosity and interest in the smaller, ordinary fauna of the world is childish now and not rooted in any kind of 'personal philosophy') that there are things to value other than hoarding inert trinkets, that the little wonders of living are worth cherishing and guarding too?

WOW!!! I very much enjoyed reading this analysis! It's such a joy when my silly comics invoke deeper thoughts and theories like this. Both Swordfish and Hopper are a part of me and my experiences, so many of their adventures are directly or indirectly inspired from my life. And many times I don't realize these parallels myself. Sometimes I just draw and write what I subconsciously know, but don't acknowledge to myself out loud. How parents, siblings, friends can affect you, shape your future etc. How every generation is hopefully better than the last. Your take is absolutely correct in that Swordfish's influence could change Hopper's future, but in the end it's Hopper who makes the choices. She admires her mother so much that she might be blinded to paths other than the traditional dragon tyranny.

But they're just hatchlings atm, so nobody knows what the future holds :P

Well I now fear for swordfish's life, how come Anoryx has not come for him yet?!

Oh she ate all the grown dragons! Avoryx doesn’t bother with whelps, it’s like trying to catch rats bare-handed. And Swordfish would probably get a pass as an adult wyrm too. He’s Hopper’s best friend and Avoryx wouldn’t cause her hatchling unnecessary distress.

She’s sure that Hopper will eventually follow in her footsteps anyway, aka 100% certain that someday the kid is going to eat all her childhood friends :/

I’m sorry if this has been already asked but could we have a bit more lore on Avoryx? I’m sorry if I’m bothering or pressuring you.

Hi anon! This is not a bother at all, in fact I’m delighted to loredump about my favorite menace :D

Many probably already know, but Avoryx is Hopper’s mother! Now although she’s known as a particularly destructive, even for a dragon, she’s actually a pretty alright parent. Before Hopper was born she arrived at wherever my comics take place and just.. wreaked havoc. Slaughtered and ate all the other dragons that lived there and then laid a single egg.

Avoryx is not at all bothered by Hopper’s pinkness. In fact as soon as Hopper was old enough to venture out on her own she stopped caring. Hopper was out there doing her own thing and the sooner her hatchling grows independent the better. If her whelp came running back to her lair with knights giving chase she’d eat them and then she’s usually aggravated enough to slink out of the ruins she made her lair in and rip apart whichever settlement she stumbles on.

Also, instead of the classic dragonfire, Avoryx expels black smoke from her maw, and a scalding tar-like liquid drips from between her blackened teeth. Her presence is announced by a cloud of smog, a telltale sign of impending death. The unknown liquid she leaves behind on her path of destruction can be collected. It’s sticky, corrosive, and smells vile, but dragon slayers and alchemists need to collect whatever samples they can if they hope to one day slay this beast.

Oh and she has an old “pet” raven that acts as an alarm clock and reports activity near her vicinity. It also picks scraps from between her teeth - a personal dentist!

It’s kind of a mystery how the bird has been spared from becoming a morsel.

I love love LOVE very traditional dragon designs!! Yknow the super evil treasure-hoarding beasts who just radiate malice :D Just being evil for the sake of it. It’s cliche but I enjoy it so much

It also feels great to switch it up and make something other than my comics. I really ought to do it more often to reignite that passion for drawing evil wyrms. It’s gotten a bit stale and I’d like to make and share some art that I like doing for ME, even if it might not speak to many as my comics do.

Specifically I really want to doodle my BG3 Dragonborn.. as soon as I get back my computer I can take some reference screenshots…

Here we see two whelps scouring the haunted ruins, hoping to retrieve forgotten treasures amidst the crumbling chambers. It is a dangerous endeavour, for there are wicked forces to be awakened here.

Though worry not! These two will solve their problems by biting! Really hard!

It’s Swordfish turn to become a plushie, and a glowing one on top! When exposed to light for some time, both his fins and eyes glow a blue hue in the darkness, so not only does he keep nightmares at bay, he’s super cute to look at! :D

He does chew on boots so beware of that.
