there's a p common attitude in fandom spaces (fandom in general, not a specific one) that's like "why care about canon, or the characters being ooc? we're here to play with the dolls any way we like" and as much as i obviously am a person who thinks about canon a lot in theory i'm into that. in practice though when popular fanon takes things in a wildly different direction from canon so often it's in the service of taking something that was originally canonically weird and interesting and making it blander. it's flattening a complex character into a broad archetype i've seen a million times before, it's taking two characters with a complicated canonical relationship and writing them in a way where you could find-and-replace the names with any other popular migratory slash fandom pairing and the fic would make as much if not more sense. if you're going to break away from canon at least do something interesting? don't make it less weird? i feel like i'm watching someone take a really beautiful expensive cut of wagyu steak and grind it into hamburger to cook it well done and cover it in ketchup

Hey, so I get not wanting to engage with the MD community after that, but this is NOT most of the community. There are around 3 guys who do this, and the rest of us literally hate them, and they do this INTENTIONALLY because they also hate the rest of us. And the problem is, if you DO give up on MD projects, then that hands a win to them, and encourages them to keep harassing people. One of them even put up a post on their YT channel, CELEBRATING that you had stopped work on MD projects, and actively calling for more harassment for other creators because of it. I would implore you to PLEASE continue making MD projects. Don't let the bullies see that bullying gets a rise out of you, they will ONLY keep going further. These are not 'people', they are basically demons and letting them stop you from doing anything is just feeding them.

Thank you for your kindness and encouragement, from you and everyone else. I appreciate how much people care about the things I make. Unfortunately, however, my leave was already planned back in January 2025. This decision wasn’t solely made because of this person’s comment. Rather, that just ended up being the final nail in the coffin. After Intermission I already felt burnt out on MD and I was ready to move on, but I had Catalyst’s script finished and I wanted so badly to work on something with friends.

I decided I would stay longer just for the sake of completing this project with my team who now makes me so so so happy. While I am tired, I don’t regret my decision to pursue this. Catalyst has brought me so much joy in a time where I’ve been struggling with unemployment and fear for what my future looks like. I can’t stress enough how much I care for them. I’ve made new friends and my irl gang has met my online gang. It’s been a wonderful experience. After this is done though, I’m ready to pursue my own stories.

Also I never disclosed this since I didn’t want to bring attention to it, but this sort of vitriol has become normal for me. I’ve been sent death threats and comments that are attacks on my character. Critique of my work is something I can handle. I actually always seek out constructive criticism on the things I make because how else am I supposed to grow if I don’t know my weaknesses. Comments telling me to kms and insults? They start to weigh on you the more you get them.

This is the internet. I’ve been here for over a decade. As long as I’m here I know there will always be a chance someone throws words like those at me. The only thing I can do to combat it if ignoring doesn’t work is to walk away.

I hope you all will continue to support me and my work, though. I will do my best for you.

I find the dumb tags to be hilarious, but you really shouldn’t use those in a vacuum. You gotta at least put the actual tags there alongside the joke tags

Which I'm sure you're like "well duh Hannah, you don't like the Bad Jack and Maddie trope at all" and yes that is true and I guess my reason for hating that specific tag has to do with me disliking the trope?

Anyway here's my hot take: the tags of a fic are NOT the place to get all cutesy, tongue-in-cheek, double meaning, etc. When I first started trawling AO3 a couple of years ago, I took tags at their face value; I had no way of knowing all the little "quirks" of tagging within the phandom and stuff. So guess what I thought when I saw the tag "The Fenton's A+ Parenting"?

It's not even a good tag because I genuinely don't think everyone is on the same page about it. I think you have the camp that uses it to refer to the Bad Jack and Maddie trope (which is, I'm guessing? The more popular interpretation?), but there's also definitely a non-negligible number of people who Missed The Point and are definitely tagging their Good Jack and Maddie fics with that tag so like??? It's an ineffectual tag at best bc now no one knows what it ACTUALLY means

Anyway the point is: if your fic has Bad Jack and Maddie just tag it that way, please. You can get cutesy and tongue-in-cheek in your summary but the tags really need to be as straightforward as possible so that readers can truly understand what they're getting into, whether they're into it or not

The problem is that it’s not a niche fandom thing from the other side of the fence. DC basically took over the entire fandom of Danny phantom for a while and still is some of the most popular stuff.

And that’s the horror of time loops, you are free to do whatever. But after countless new experiences, the world is still the same. You have grown and changed as a person to the point that people don’t recognize you. But those people haven’t. They haven’t changed at all since the beginning.
