Why do you think you’ll go first? That’s a bit morbid, don’t you think? But no, I’ve been inhaling paint fumes for the past 13 years of my life, so if any of us are going to die first, it’ll be me.
I would feel old. I mean, the next thing you know your kids put you in some retirement home and you’re waiting for your time to pass. Then again, that wouldn’t happen for another seventy years. Unless, of course, you die young. Don’t worry, I’ll probably go first.

Just a suggestion, but, shut the fuck up.
You may be an adult, but you look twelve. I mean, you look like a very attractive twelve year old, so there’s that.

“Do you have a cool origin story for your surfing skills? I’m actually from Miami but I’ve barely touched a surfboard.”
“Thank you! I’ve been surfing since I was like, five. All thanks to one of my moms, really.”

Kid at heart but paying bills and having to make your own doctor’s appointments. It’s all very scary, Axel.
Fuck, thats kinda scary to think about how we have to do shit like that from now on. But hey, kid at heart right? Thats all that matters.

Well, I’m glad to hear that. I usually... wouldn’t just give my art away, but I figured I could make an exception for the circumstance. And since I love Rose.
Oh, well, that’s good. Good that nothing’s wrong. I don’t think I would be able to handle anyone else being sick right now. By the way, my mom hasn’t stopped talking about that painting. She loves it so much. More than me, I think. It’s beautiful.

No, I just figure I should get a check-up before New York. Make sure all’s well.
Gotta say, I’m pretty proud of you. You running a fever or something?

So, I actually made my own doctor’s appointment today. I feel like an adult and I don’t know how I feel about that.

“Don’t listen to people stuck in the ‘50s. Do whatever the fuck you want. But surfing — that’s really cool! How long have you been surfing?”
“I was at the beach and this lady had the audacity to tell me to burn my brand new surfboard and go study, then looked at my bathing suit like it was the ugliest thing she’d seen. Newsflash, the two piece was from Victora’s Secret and this is the 21 century. Pretty sure I can surf better than most the boys around here, am I right?”

phone call: skylar @ babygirl ♡
skylar: he was quick in his next remark. "And, and telling me about what happened in Michigan wasn't mine, but you still told me. I just don't want you to think I don't trust you. I do. /So/ much."
marisol: Taken aback, Mari's eyes focused on a spot on the wall in front of her, everything else unsharpening as she listened to him speak on the other line. It took her more than a few beats to respond, her head beginning to race and the butterflies continuing their dangerous dance along the lining of her stomach, but eventually she said, "Then, that's it? Are there any more secrets left?"

skylar: "I know…" He mumbled into the phone. He waited for a few seconds, closing his eyes, even when he spoke up again. "I'm sorry I never told you sooner." He finally let out.
marisol: Sighing again, this time in an exasperated manner, Mari licked her lips and sat up a bit more. "It's none of my business, Skylar," she said in a now-steady tone, her tears long gone, "it's Rose's. And yours. And the rest of your family's but it's not mine."

skylar: "Annnnd," he dragged the word out, "if everything goes well tonight, she should get discharged later tomorrow. My aunt's gonna stay with us for a few days though, to make sure everything goes well. They're going to put her on some medicine too, that should help her kick the addiction and stuff." Sky was trying to put a little enthusiasm into his voice, but he still didn't come across as very excited.
marisol: Letting out a long sigh of relief, Mari closed her eyes and leaned back into her pillows. "That's all very good, Skylar," she said softly, trying to hide in her voice that she was near tears and shaking like a chihuahua. "It's all very good."

skylar: "I'm better," Skylar started as he pulled a blanket that was at the foot of the bed over himself, turning onto his side a little. "They forced me to go home last night, and I slept a little so that made me feel better."
marisol: Nodding, she sat back against her headboard, ankles crossed and bag of chips tucked between her legs. "Well, that's good," She said slowly, "sleep can always make someone feel better."

skylar: "Definitely." Skylar agreed. He let out a little sigh, fixing the hair that had fallen flat against his forehead. A small "yeah" was all he could manage to get out clearly after some silence.
marisol: Watching as Luna walked silently into her room to drop a bag of tortilla chips on the bed in front of Mari, she nodded in gratitude and accepted her sister's small 'goodnight' and kiss on the cheek. "How're you feeling?" She asked as she waved her sister away and began to eat the chips.

skylar: "I have before. They're so boring. I used to think Rachel Rea was hot, though." He blushed a little at the confession. Skylar chuckled a little, and spent a few moments in thought. "Yeah," he said after a bit, "I got my uncle a little something. I feel bad. They normally go do something really nice but couldn't this year." His voice dropped a little towards the end.
marisol: "Yeah, but you'll learn how to cook for me. And... wow," Marisol chuckled, tilting her head in reaction to a creaking floorboard in time to see Luna slip past her door and wander into the kitchen. "I'm sure he enjoys just having you around."

skylar: "That's alright. I can cook. Well, I can cook a couple of things. If you show me how to do it, I can normally repeat it. I'll leave Taco Tuesdays to you, though." He laughed again. "Who knows. Maybe next year you'll have to be buying two father's day gifs."
marisol: "You could just watch a bunch of cooking shows," She suggested, her voice only tinged in a bit of seriousness. "Tacos I can do." Making a fake gagging noise, Marisol reacted in disgust to Sky's comment. "No, I won't be. I bought my dad like, 10 books for this Father's Day and it cost me two paychecks. No step-dad is getting anything more than a coupon book."

skylar: There was a tiny, almost inaudible groan from Skylar's end. "Let's not go down that path. But, yeah, we could try cooking something with it. I'll grab a recipe from my aunt. We'll have a cooking day." He waited a moment. "That might be fun. For them, at least. I know your mom's going to miss you once you're in school. A boyfriend, or, you know, fiancee, could keep her company. Like your dad's girlfriend does."
marisol: Smiling, she leaned back against her pillows. "Cooking isn't one of my strong suits, though. Except like, Mexican and Cuban food," She said and then listened closely and nodded, aware that he couldn't see her. "Yeah, but she'll have Luna. Unless Luna moves out. Which would be sad, considering. She's tough, though, and she likes the house to herself a lot of the time."
