I wanted to say that I largely agree with what you say. However, Ursa being a weird, awful parent actually makes an odd degree of sense within the context of the comics, where they've accidentally pretty consistently portrayed her as an awful parent.

I am absolutely fine with Azula being portrayed as a little jerk, but the way they did it seemed to undermine the themes of the comic. It would make more sense if they showed the academy corrupting her over time.

I don't know what you think of this but making Mai be a fake friend who was always taking advantage of Azula felt like an odd touch to me.

Are these the two same Mai's because I feel like the comic version of kid Mai and the kid Mai we got in Zuko alone are two completely different people lol. Yeah I agree the whole fake friend angle is very odd. IMO there should have been a mixture of Mai latching on to certain aspects of Azula but also forcing herself to tolerate other aspects due to external pressures. WHY WERE THEY BEHAVING LIKE THEY WERE 12-13 IN THE COMIC WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE AROUND 8??? In Zuko Alone they were 8 and already a friend group... And were more or less behaving like actual 8-year-olds.

Ursa has been in a sad state ever since ATLA ended it's true. Not sure where Ursa and Azula can really go from here :( :( :(
