Secret Dad-ing by dick_helmet_magneto
With his helmet in place, he could arrive after dark, use his powers to open the window to the nursery, and slip in with no one in the house none the wiser. He sat in the rocking chair by the crib with the small little boy in his arm, looking down at his sleeping face. He looked so much like Charles, except, perhaps, the hair. Gently, Erik moved a hand over said soft white hair. - Unknown to them, in the dead of the night, when everyone else sleeps, Erik steals some moments alone with his son.

Hmm. I deleted the previous version and I drew it again. Context, it's an illustration inspired by my fan fic Mania, just know that Bob has a manic episode, Sentry pops out and he kidnaps John.

Okay so the thing is Bob knew he liked men since he was very young, and despite probably never having the chance to experience a stable, healthy, normal relationship with a guy, he's always known what the specific kind of man that gets him all worked up is like.
What's funny, or not so funny, is that Bob has the most stereotypical taste in men. Like his type is the big, masculine, conventionally attractive guy, the kind of dude that swears on his life that he is straight despite having an anonymous Grindr profile.
And Bob knows it's a cliché and it's what any gay man with a brain would avoid at all costs, but he's never had the chance to do much with guys like that, so he's fine.
So imagine his shock when he wakes up in a bunker and one of the people pointing a gun at him is that exact type of man.
Imagine his frustration when he moves in the same tower as that man, gets progressively closer with him, and has to fight the indecent thoughts about his new friend on the daily basis, because said friend just LOVES to go around the building with gym shorts and tank tops, and he absolutely CAN'T HELP IT to pat Bob on his back when he greets him and give him the warmest smiles he has ever received from a dude in his life.

I'm Still Here 4 - Lights Out
ao3 mirror masterpost
-
The buzzing of a text notification filled the small bedroom. Yelena groaned sleepily as she felt her arm automatically snap out to grab the phone from the nightstand. The light of a small screen blasted her in the face, and she instinctively shut her eyes, only for them to pop open again against her will.
Bob. Stop texting your boyfriend.
I'm not texting my boyfriend. My boyfriend is texting me.
Well tell him to stop. We're not getting any sleep at this rate.
She felt her fingers tap a message into the phone, then reach to put it down.
Looks like your phone's done charging. Bob said silently, I put mine on the pad.
Mmm. Can we sleep now? Yelena rolled over on her bed, waiting for her eyes to close.
Bob's phone buzzed again.
BOB. Yelena yelled silently as her hand shot out and grabbed the phone again.
Sorry. Bob put the phone back down. John says goodnight to you too.
Goodnight, John. Now go to bed. Yelena pulled her hand back and closed her eyes firmly.
The phone buzzed again.
NO. Yelena locked her limbs before they could reach for the phone again.
That's your phone this time. Bob said.
Whoever it is can wait.
Her phone buzzed again. And again.
"Who in..." Yelena muttered and grabbed her phone.
It was a call from Bucky. Yelena let out a huff and answered it.
"What?" She mumbled. "If this is about the orange juice again-"
"Yelena." Bucky's voice was serious. "We've got a situation."
~ ~ ~
Political hostage extraction; not the simplest of missions, but one The New Avengers had done before. The target was being held in the basement of an old, crumbling office building, and negotiations had fallen through. Yelena had known about the situation prior - the team had been on-call in case things went south - but hadn't expected to be called into action, especially at 3am.
Yelena crouched behind the demolition equipment that had been left in the building's parking lot, waiting for Ava's signal that the coast was clear. There was a lookout on the top of the building, and it was going to take a hot minute for Ava to get up there on foot to take him out.
Nervous? Yelena asked Bob's consciousness.
A little. Bob admitted.
Don't be. We'll do fine. Yelena assured him.
It was their first mission since the 'incident', and everyone was wondering if Bob's presence was going to be a liability or not. It had been made clear that he needed to stay in the background and let Yelena do her job, and he'd agreed. When he'd been in action as Sentry, he'd had a whole range of powers at his disposal - powers that he'd left behind when abandoning his body. Yelena's skill set was very different from what he'd been used to, and her body not nearly as sturdy. He could easily get them both killed if he took over during a mission.
"Clear." Ava's voice came over Yelena's headset.
Bob retreated to spectator status as the next step of the plan went into motion. Yelena, Alexei, and John darted across the parking lot towards a side door in the building. Bucky, who'd been on-site all night and was too sleep-deprived for a stealth mission, gave them a ping when one of the hostiles on a lower floor turned their direction. The trio hid behind a backhoe until Bucky pinged them again that the coast was clear. They got to the side door, like clockwork.
It was dark indoors, as the power to the building had been cut long ago. Yelena adjusted her night vision goggles. The place was a mess; crumbling drywall lined the corridors while bits of ceiling tile dangled precariously from above.
Ava was making her way back downstairs - she needed to sneak into the basement and secure the hostage before any fighting broke out. Yelena's team would need to wait for her next signal before going too far.
The trio stealthily made their way towards one of the stairwells that went to the basement. They were entering a hallway close to the stairwell when a series of gunshots rang out. John gave a stifled grunt and fell to his knees. Instantly, Alexei and Yelena surrounded him and scanned the area for the source of the shots. This was an empty hallway - there was nowhere for a sniper to hide, and yet...
Another shot clipped Yelena's shoulder, exploding into the floor with a shower of debris. Yelena's heightened senses kicked in and she spun in the direction the bullet had come from. There, in the ceiling - she could see the tip of a gun barrel over the edge of the disarrayed ceiling tiles. She took a shot. There was a pause, then a muffled thud and a gloved hand dangled from the gap in the ceiling.
A coughing noise from John got her attention. He was sitting against the wall, blood oozing from several holes that had been punched into his chest armor. He looked up at Yelena with a pained smile.
"Better me than you." He said quietly. Then he coughed again and slumped over.
"John?" Yelena's asked.
John didn't respond.
"John?!" This time it was Bob asking.
Yelena felt Alexei shove her out of the way, pressing field dressing into the bullet wounds.
"He will be fine." Alexei said quickly, "He's still bleeding. He's still alive."
Yelena stood frozen.
Is he telling the truth? Bob asked. Can you tell?
Yelena couldn't answer. She could tell by Alexei's tone he wasn't telling the whole truth, but she needed to stay in control.
Ava sent a ping that she'd secured the hostage.
"Go!" Alexei tried to wave Yelena away. "Complete mission!"
Yelena nodded and turned towards the stairwell. She didn't have time to worry, or feel distressed that she might have just lost a team member on her watch, or feel... anything. She pushed her feelings down.
Bob was sounding frantic at Yelena's silence.
Tell me he's going to be ok, please!
He's going to be ok. Yelena stated, trying to focus on keeping her own feelings locked away.
No- no that's your lying tone. Oh god- Oh god no!
Something happened then - something Yelena couldn't explain. One moment, she was standing in the hallway of a decrepit office building. The next moment, she was laying down, eyes closed, pain radiating from her left arm and ribs.
Yelena cracked her eyes open. A familiar room greeted her - the Watchtower med bay. What... what was she doing here? She tried to move. Her body didn't respond. It just hurt.
Yelena? Bob asked, sounding equally disoriented.
Bob? What happened?
Bob was silent, but Yelena could sense a creeping dread from him.
Yelena tried to look around. She was laying on the bed in the med bay, metal cast on one arm and bandages taped to her torso... but she was strapped down, with Chitauri restraints handcuffing her to the bed. Yelena stared at the cuffs in alarm. What was going on? What had happened?
"Hello?!" She yelled to the empty room.
Bucky stepped into her field of view. Yelena looked up at him and tried to move her head, as if gesturing to the restraints.
"What gives?"
Bucky pulled up a chair next to the bed.
"Do you remember anything?"
"No... I was in the building, and then Walker..."
"Walker's alive." Bucky said quickly. "Everyone on the team is alive."
Yelena had never felt so relieved - not just for her sake, but for Bob's too. Neither of them would have been able to handle another loss at that point.
Bucky watched them carefully.
"You don't remember anything else?"
"No! What happened?!"
Bucky seemed to be choosing his next words carefully.
"... We're still working that out." he said finally, getting up to go. "I'll be back. You two get some rest."
Bob surfaced.
"Wait! What - did I do something?! Did-"
"It wasn't your fault, Bob." Bucky said, opening the door. "It's mine. We shouldn't have let you back onto the field so soon."
Bob pulled against the restraints. Yelena tried to make him stop - she knew it wouldn't do any good.
"Please-" Yelena broke in. "Tell us something."
Bucky paused.
"Walker's alive. That's all I can say."
