Yesterday was draw a teapot graveyard and a skull day. Tombstones are fun to draw... does that make me creepy?

This morning, I made more tiles. Lots of grass tiles. I’m so glad we don’t have green marble grass anymore. Whoo-Hoo

Well, our little game got a bit of a facelift today. Our grass texture (the upper part of this pic), was getting too flat. Like haha, it looks like the character is walking on green marble, instead of some lush pasture. So I made 30 grass brushes today so I could try and remedy the grass marbling. Making brushes is one of my favorite things <3
It’s tileable, like a good grass should be ;) and I’m very happy with it at this point. It really gives a lot of depth and variety of texture compared to before. Progress!

This is my favorite Autumn tree so far. Only 1 billion more trees to draw.

yep. Just drawing and junks. Lore book thing is coming along. I’m just playing around with the inside bit. figuring out the best way to convey all the info it has. I think I may treat it like a scrap book.

I got tired of drawing trees and books, so I decided to rework the Red Riding Hood npc we have. I started sketching, and it turned into this. I like her a lot more than the 1st version. Can’t wait to start fleshing out the rest of the npcs after i have more of the farmland done.    (And she’s holding a flamethrower if you were wondering.)

Take a GIF. So those 3 books are (left to right) the lore book, Crafting, and Cook Book. Once you open your selected book, you have an index with all the major categories, a tab with each major category, and a search bar. Our coder had fun naming the tabs, like too much fun. We decided to add a favorite button and a search bar to make things even easier to find. Because thumbing thru these books shouldn’t be a chore.

What we’ve been up to
Whew, back from a much needed break from bright screens. I’ve been getting migraines like crazy the last 2 weeks and needed to chill for a few days. Fun break, watched some movies, planned more for the game, slept a lot. Anyway, have a Beyond the Forest coding update.
Our coder totally kicked butt over the last 4 weeks. Our game now tells the players the game time based on where the sun or moon, and a few other icons, are in the sky. Our little world doesn't need exact time to be playable, and having a digital clock doesn’t go well with the feeling of the game. So we devised a better way by having a sun or moon crawl across the sky so you know the relative time.
Trees have been added and they are chop-able. We have a stand in animation at the moment but you can channel your inner woodsman and fell every tree to your heart’s desire. And since this is a multiplayer game, we needed to synchronize the harvest-able objects (actions like picking fruit, or chopping a tree), which is now completed.
We have a few GUI’s so far which have been added in. Containers, such as chests, have been added and synchronize over the network. We added in vehicle bundles, which is how you carry specific types of larger items in a greater quantity than you could fit in your bag. Our inventory GUI is in place, along with our gear inventory and the player’s library so they can access their Cook Book, Crafting Book and the yet to be drawn Lore Book.
A lot of work went into the crafting system, which is a huge piece of our game. It is mostly finished, with the exception of building structures, like some of the containers, campfires, shelters, etc.
We have a lot more to do to make this the game we want, but progress is addictive.

Food from the 1st biome in the game, the Farmlands. This feels like only 10% of the food for this biome. So much more to draw.

Inside of a house so far. Got a crummy chimney, some spiderwebs plastered about, weeds and dust. Oh, is that a shrubbery?
We want the houses to be super messy when you find them. Any ideas as to what else I should draw for junk inside?
