THERE IS NO WAY
I just made the connection that the song they line dance to in episode 5 is "achy breaky heart",
and that this happens directly after the Captains death scene...
He died of a heart attack trying to see the man he loved.
HE LITERALLY HAD AN ACHY BREAKY HEART WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME???

This. This right here is breaking my heart.
I am sobbing
Just realised that Havers touches Cap's hand and keeps it down a bit to stop Cap from touching his face because of where they were and whom they were surrounded by
Fuck, that must have been so terrible for both of them.
Maybe that's why Havers was guiding Cap to grab the stick.
At least him grabbing the swaggerstick gave Havers the official excuse to touch his hands without adding too much suspicion.

This is undoubtedly my favourite part of our flag means death.
I'm not sure what else can dream of living up to Stede LAUNCHING himself off of the ship to get to Ed

The last thing the Captain heard before he died was the man he loved tenderly saying his name.
We didn't find out the Captain's name until that scene so that it was the only time we heard it being said.
Havers completes him.

Can we talk about THIS???
Tumblr media
I knew that the Captain (or James I guess??) would have a devastating end but I had no idea it would hit me this hard.
This rod they're both holding is called a swagger stick. They were carried by uniformed officers in WW1 as a symbol of military authority. The Captain has one throughout the series but here we see that it's not actually his but Havers'. They both hold it and each others hands until Havers lets go, giving it to him.
Looking back now, the stick is a symbol of the rank he never had. He died in shame, with stolen medals, surrounded by people who he looked up to but who resented him in turn. Havers though almost gives up his own authority to the Captain in this moment. Now, it makes so much sense why he wouldn't let go of that command when he was a ghost. When he was no longer alive, with no soldiers to command, it stopped representing his authority and became a symbol of Havers. These normal shots of him are so sad now, knowing that it's a possession they've shared.

Giving up that authority, would be like giving up the gift that Havers gave him.
I will need 3-5 business days to recover.

Guys he's not talking it through as a crew
Remember Frenchie suggested "bottle it up" in the pilot and now he's saying this. It's actually driving me insane.

I'm rocking with Zheng Yi Sao's aunt because "sea witch" is undoubtedly the most accurate description of Buttons.

I feel very seen by our flag means death at the moment, and not for their lgbtq representation but because I too have an obsession with soup

I have not been the same since Zheng Yi Sao became a character in our flag means death. It means so much to me that pirate-related media is representing her more because I never would have known about her and she is too cool to be forgotten.
For years pop culture either portrayed her as the racist "submissive asian woman" stereotype or ignored her completely. It's infuriating. Now though we have a strong portrayal of her in both doctor who and our flag means death!! Let me tell you a few things about the rightfully named "Pirate queen".
On average, most pirates died 2 years after starting piracy. Edward Teach died after two years, Stede Bonnet died after one and Israel Hands impressively died around 8 years after starting, all executed. Our pirate queen died at 68 after a successful 9 year career. In fact, she only stopped because she was made to surrender and lived the rest of her years in effective retirement.
She inherited her late husbands pirate fleets and at one point commanded around 1,800 ships. Blackbeard is believed to have a maximum of 5- likely because he didn't get along with people well enough to amass enough crews to run them. She had the largest fleet in history.
Zheng Yi Sao was a leader and undoubtedly one of the most successful pirates ever and yet we dare to forget her.

I know that the fandom in general never gave up hope but I did. I had reached acceptance that he was gone and that Nathan Foad wasn't coming back, especially with Guz Khan leaving the cast as well.
When I tell you I SCREAMED-
This stupid show let me give up hope and now he's home again and I don't know how to react.
I will not be normal about this.

I made this ages ago but it feels appropriate to put here
The show starts in 1717 and Blackbeard historically is killed in 1718. I have delusionally convinced myself that they will not kill him off in the show and instead have some elaborate fuckery for him to fake his death. Nothing sad will ever happen (again) in my silly little gay pirate show. You cannot convince me otherwise. I will not be taking criticism on this.
