“Something I can’t tell you.”
A/N: IM ALIVE!!! I js sorta thought of this idea at 1 am lol
Pairing: Dabi(Touya Todoroki) x reader
Summary: Dabi spots you up on the roof and you guys have a meaningful talk over a smoke
CW; perchance a tad OOC (I hope not), smoking
Tumblr media
Your quirk was bad luck. The bad part of yin and yang, the black cat, the broken mirror of the universe if you will. Bad luck trailed behind you like a moth to a flame your entire life, and as one would expect, it was annoying as all get out. Especially when it left you on top of the roof of the league of villains hideout, kicking the rusty metal bars which enclosed the rooftop in frustration, only causing your foot pain in the process, although at the moment that wasn’t really a concern so long as you could blow off some steam.
You searched your pockets as you leaned against the railing and pulled out your cigarettes, doing the pocket dance as you look for your lighter and groan in frustration when you just couldn’t fucking find it because whatever gods above seemed to hate your existence prior to your birth, and just had to gate keep your lighter.
You slumped down onto the wall besides the entrance to the rooftop, putting your head in your hands in utter defeat. The world had already thrown so much shit at you today, and now this?! It was like the world had it out for you for whatever goddamn reason, like the world wanted to see—
“Need a light?” Dabi inquired, stopping your train of thought as he looked down at you, extending a hand out to help you up from the cold concrete ground. “Yeah. Could use one.” You said in return, standing up and leaning against the creaking railing while you extended your hand which held a cigarette in it out to him. He used his quirk to light the cigarette, making sure to do his best at not burning it, and you to a crisp. “What’s up with you? Looks like you’ve been through hell.” Dabi questioned, one of his brows raised as his gaze cast downward to you.
You returned his gaze, your heart stuttering a bit once you met his icy cold blue eyes, “Shigaraki gave me a mouthful today about how I need to ‘shape up’ during missions. That I’m becoming a liability to the league.” You explained, shaking your head with an unimpressed expression, rolling your eyes while you took a puff of your cigarette, watching the smoke plume up into the night sky, practically feeling it poison your lungs puff by puff.
“I didn’t need anyone’s help back there, I was fine. I’m used to my bad luck quirk, I knew what I was getting into-“
“But the rest of the league didn’t.” Shigaraki growled out, scratching his neck in irritation, “you need to be more aware of your surroundings or you’re going to risk killing one of the valuable assets we currently have on a mission.” He added, not done with his lecture as he stared her down with a sharp glare. “You need to shape up or you won’t be any shape when I’m done dusting you. And the process is a lot slower than people think. So get out of my sight.”
“…yes sir.” You complied, begrudgingly shoving your hands in your pockets as you’d stomped up the stairs of the leagues hideout to find solice in the rooftop.
She scowled just thinking about what happened not a few moments ago, staring down at the city lights with the foul smelling smoke from her cigarette, “You know you could just stick it to him, right?”
“Hm?” You hummed in question, not understanding what he was saying, well more like not comprehending how she’d go about confronting shigaraki without literally dissipating to dust.
“Yeah, tell him off. He’s all bark no bite. Temper tantrums galore.” He rasped out with a soft cough, the damage done to him by his own quirk a bit too apparent. his eyes looked back up at the glittering stars in the sky. “I’ll even have your back if you need. You know, stand by, give the guy an ego check.” Dabi added, looking over at her with his usual joking/shit eating grin. You rolled your eyes and continued to puff at her cigarette, looking back up at him. “Right. Like you’d actually help me.” You huffed with your tone laced with sarcasm, not truthfully believing his words.
“I’m serious. The guy needs to learn to take down his ego.” Dabi retorted, shrugging his shoulders. Your eyes grew suspicious of him. Narrowing your gaze on him, you gently scooted away from him, your expression turning to one of distrust. “What’s the catch?” You asked hesitantly as he let out a raspy laugh, “No catch. Not this time.” He replied, his smile amused and peaking at the corners of his mouth only because of your paranoia surrounding him from you, like he was some uptight asshole who just so happened to also be a villain.
For obvious reasons, you were still suspicious, glaring at him as you carefully picked his expression for any lies he may be telling. Anytime anyone really did anything ‘nice’ in the league, it was to make some stupid deal. To get someone in their debt for later. And yet here Dabi was, no ulterior motive you could pick from him, nothing but a kind gesture. “So why then?” You asked, a hint of curiosity shining in your suspicious tone.
“If you must know, one, you’re hot,” Dabi stated with that stupid shit-eating grin which made you roll your eyes at his shabby attempts at getting under your skin, “two, you’re actually tolerable compared to these shitholes,” he added, the glimmer from the buildings of the city made the entire sky and land look like a black void of space, “And, uh… something I can’t tell you.” He said, his eyes meeting with yours just for one second, in which you didn’t see Dabi, you saw behind that tough, vengeful, angry, festering veil he so proudly swore by, you saw Touya. Just for a second, and then it was gone.
You nodded softly, the tone in the air changing just a bit. There was a mutual understanding of what that something was, yet neither of them dare to say it aloud and possibly destroy the friendship-ish they both held for each other.
Dabi eventually turned to you, the crickets in the night sky chirping as a sort of peaceful ambience, “hey, why do you stick around me? I mean, I’m an ass for sure, I could care less about others lives, and it’s not like I benefit you in any way, so…” he asked, looking over at you for an answer as you finally put out your cigarette after smoking every last drop from it.
“Well, for one, you’re hot.” You said smugly, the look on his face rather satisfying when he gave you an unimpressed glare, “two, you’re actually the only tolerable person in the league,” you repeated, his eyes rolling at the fact you practically copy and pasted his list of reasons. That was until your voice and eyes grew a bit softer, turning away from him as you shoved your hands in your pockets, opening the exit door, your body slightly turned towards him, “Oh, and…
“Something I can’t tell you.”
A/N: i hope y’all liked that!! Im thinking abt maybe making this into a series and making a prequel + maybe a part two? Lmk what yall thinkkk <3

Healing damage: an Izuku w/ quirk AU
Word count: 1.1k TW: suicide mention, self-harm, a sad boyo
AU where Izuku awakens a quirk after he follows through on Bakugou's swan dive off a roof comment
Izuku stumbled up the stairs to his apartment. His scraped hand burned as he pushed the door open. He checked the clock. It was 4:00. His mom wouldn't be getting home till at least 8, so he had time to fix this. Izuku made his way to his bedroom. He was lucky this time really, it was a lot messier to fix when katsuki got him on a day his mom'd be home.
He pulled off his shirt, exposing a back littered with pinkish scars. Most were dull and faded, a few newer ones still had steri-strips attached holding the healing tissue in place. He steadied his breath and took the razor to a free spot. The mirror was a lifesaver; he carefully slid the blade across his right flank. Just enough.
As soon as the skin tore in two he felt the power swell inside him. The feeling was almost euphoric. He'd been taking notes on his newly discovered quirk. He couldn’t be sure, but this sensation was probably fostering a slight addiction. Still, it was necessary. He couldn’t let his mom see him like this.
Izuku imbued the power into the bruises from Bakugou pushing him around, a few burns from when he'd gotten too close, the scraped hands from when he'd clumsily fell after Bakugou flashed his quirk at Izuku. A cut was enough to heal a lot of minor damage like this. The tests he'd done weren't conclusive but he knew this would be more than enough. He probably could've worked it through with less… he could've.
Shaking himself out of those thoughts, Izuku healed the cut. His quirk’s residual energy only closed part of the wound, but it was enough—he was fine. This way his mother wouldn't have to see.
Izuku examined his work, the slash was only through the epidermis so he washed it with a warm washcloth—the cloth made his hands tingly from the renewed nerve endings—and applied some antibiotic then put the bandaids over it. It would be plenty.
He used the washcloth to clean the bits of blood that had fell, tching to himself. This kind of messiness could get him in trouble, it was so clumsy.
Izuku returned to his room, taking out a notebook labelled quirk research. Flipping to the latest entry, he began writing the results of today's healing.
He sighed. There was studying to do… but All Might had been spotted near Musutafu recently. He needed to investigate. Smiling, Izuku shrugged and turned to his computer. There was so much to do. The boy clacked away at his keyboard, grin on his face.
The front door lock clicked open at 8:07 exactly. Izuku jumped to his feet, hastily shutting off his laptop and bouncing out to the entrance. "Hey mom" Izuku adopted a smile and waved towards her. "Hi honey" Inko smiled back at him as she took off her work-shoes, "I'm sorry about that late shift, the hospital keeps asking for more and more" "Its okay, I know you need to work" He shrugged to the apology, it was okay, he was better off with it anyways. "Do you want some tea?" Izuku offered, "I started some awhile ago" Inko moved to him and ruffled his hair fondly, "you are the best son I could ask for" she gave a nod "yes I'd love some tea" Izuku headed to the kitchen area, taking the simmering tea off the stove-top. Earl Grey—apparently it was his dad's favorite. His mother still kept it stocked, and drank it nonetheless. He placed the tea on the table where his mother had plopped down, "Hey mom I've got some school work to get back to" he eyed her, she looked exhausted slumped over the table like that, "I just wanted to check in on you" "Go do your work honey" Inko sat up, smiling fondly at Izuku "that brain of yours is a lot more important than some tea for me"
Izuku shuffled back to his room, feeling a bit bad about leaving his mom so quickly. He'd figured out all there was to know about All Might's Musutafu spotting in just under an hour, but then he'd seen an article on the new 1-A class getting expelled, and that'd sparked a whole new rabbit hole. In short, he hadn't gotten any actual work done.
12 am, he'd finished the last of his outline, now he was staring at his room's ceiling. Stuck tired but not falling asleep. This had been a side effect of his power he'd noticed early on. Something with the chemicals it released he thought. Probably related to the euphoria sense. He tossed listlessly.
1:30 am
Izuku was wide awake. His sheets felt more like restraints than anything resembling comforting. he pulled himself out of bed. Quietly. Mom would be asleep by now, and hopefully tired but… well he knew she wouldn't approve of this. She wouldn't approve of a lot of things he was doing recently,
Izuku gathered clothes to adorn. He softly pushed open his door and made his way to the doorway. Silently as he could.
The chemical imabalance theory explained initial insomnia, but he'd done his research. Quirk effects like that should wear off in a few hours—this was just him. He brought his notebook to write a few more theories.
Shoes slipped on, Izuku headed to the street.
The breeze outside flowed over him, frigid winter air. He basked in it. Letting the wind pull him in a random direction, he walked the streets like a ghost—haunting the soft glow of the street lights.
Izuku closed his eyes. He hadn't brought a coat, but that was just fine. He felt more present this way. He slid his arm against the cold stones of a wall beside the sidewalk. The rough tingle hugged his nerves.
He walked for a few minutes, until he spotted a park he used to play in as a kid. Izuku crossed the street, devoid of any cars to stop him, and headed up to a large tree. The leaves had fallen already. The bare branches revealed the stars when he gazed up from his seat at its root.
Izuku pulled out his notebook. A new notebook. He scribbled. I'm here, I have a quirk, I'm okay.
He wrote the phrases over, over, and over. Down the lines of the book, filling regular uniform columns. This notebook wasn't a quirk research book. It was a newer one. He'd gotten it a few days after Katsuki told him to jump. He'd gotten it a few days after he'd cleaned up the blood splattered concrete from where he'd jumped.

Over in the Ink Tank server they are hosting an art challenge event to take aliens from other pieces of media, cross them over, but redesign them to fit the Ben 10 world. Mostly human looking aliens and making them look less human lol.
But in my case I decided to join as I needed a break from my usual slew of art, and ended up designing Ben a Dinaurian transformation. The Dinaurians are aliens from my childhood game Fossil Fighters. And in honor of the game I also dubbed the transformation Fossil Fighter, since it sounds like a killer superhero nickname!🦕🦖
