The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020, which outline the requirements for pre-packaged food labelling and the display of critical information on premises where food is manufactured, processed, served, and stored.
According to theFSSAI rules for packaging, the Food Business Operator (FBO) must comply with all provisions of these regulations one year after their publication in the Official Gazette, with the exception of Chapter 3 (display of information in food service establishments), which the FBO must comply with by January 1, 2022.
According to the regulations, the term "primary display panel" refers to the section of the container/package that is intended or likely to be exhibited, presented, shown, or studied by the client under usual and customary conditions of exhibition, sale, or purchase of the food item included therein.
FSSAI rules for packagingsays that a food label is required on all prepackaged foods, and it must include specific obligatory information. General food labelling regulations apply to all foods, and any labelling provided must be accurate and not deceptive.
The labelling requirement also contains a food additive declaration, the name and complete address of the relevant brand owner, manufacturer, marketer, packer, or bottler, if applicable, and the FSSAI emblem with license number.
A descriptive name for the food must be provided if there is no customary name or if it is not utilized. This must be sufficiently descriptive to tell the customer of the genuine nature of the food and to distinguish it from other goods with which it may be confused. The majority of products will fall into this category and will require a name that is descriptive.
Aside from that, the net amount, retail selling prices, consumer care information, lot/code/batch number, and date marking should all be specified clearly. “Date of production or packaging” and “Expiry/Use by” must be indicated on the label, according to the requirements. The phrase "Best before" might, however, be used as optional or supplementary information.
If your food product has two or more ingredients (including water and additives), you must include them all under the header "Ingredients" or another appropriate heading that includes the word "ingredients." What is Food Processing Machinery?
So, above you see the idea behind Food Processing and what are the processes the food goes through. But all of that is not possible by man power, we need to use machines to do this. Generally, the equipment that are used in Food Processing is what we called machines. So, what exactly this machine is do that it rinses, chop and harvest to make it attractive to customer and marketable food products. There’s a wide variety of machines and equipment used in this industry. Over the few years, Food Engineer department have become so important.
Every Food Processing industry has evolved and become complex. But innovation is needed to satisfy the consumer demands because what consumer sees in food products is its value, genuineness and safety. The machines aimed towards consumability, conservation, and also perform important function such as construction, handling and packaging.
Processes involving in Preparation
1. Proper Washing
First of all, it properly cleans. Now cleaning is done in two ways, both wet and dry to remove dirt from the surface of the food.
2. Assessment
Next is assessment of the food to obtain its overall quality. This is done by the trained operators.
3. Removing Skin
For improving more quality, it undergoes in process of removing the outer surface or non-needed substance from the food.
4. Classifying
It is basically to separates the foreign substance from the raw food.
Automatic Processing
After preparation equipment, the next step is Automatic processing or Mechanical Processing. This also includes numerous amounts of process.
1. Cutting the Proportion
The first process is to reduce the size of food substance through force or compression like Grinding and Cutting.
2. Increase the size
This method used to increase the standard size of food matter. The equipment that are involved in this process are Extrusion, Agglomeration or Rotating Pans and Forming for molding.
3. Unifying
In this process the particle size decreases and the consistency of liquid substance increases. The equipment that are used in Unifying are Mixers, Mills, etc.
4. Blending
In this method, they have to maintain a constant mixture. By mixing and dispersing more than two components into one another.
As the consumer demand increases the food processing industry will exponentially rise and evolve and only improve in the future.
