5 Hot Spots for Mock•Tails
After finding out about my pregnancy, I’ve still been more determined than ever to continue dining in style while sampling different menu items at each establishment that I decide to visit. I’ve been extra careful to only try things that my doctor says are safe for the baby and although many pregnant women may have a glass of wine, for my own reasons, I’ve decided to stay away from anything that contains alcohol. Do I miss my Sunday Mimosas you ask? Of course I do, but I must say I’ve been getting a kick out of finding new and creative ways to craft non-alcoholic beverages. So much so that I’ve decided to make it my mission to find the best mock-tails DC has to offer and tell you guys all about them!! Whether you’re pregnant or just taking a break from alcohol, here are 5 Hot Spots that I recommend for specially crafted mock-tails.
Punjab Grill : Punjab has some of the best bartenders ever! I was so happy to see how excited they were to play around with different recipes and have me try them, some were actually apart of the cocktail menu, while others were just specially crafted! I tried 3 top tier mock tails this day, which is why I’ve happily given them the #1 spot!
2. Belga Cafe : Not only was the customer service impeccable, they also crafted the perfect drink that actually tasted like a cross between a Mimosa and a Bellini, just the right amount of fizz, sweet and tangy! I was pleasantly satisfied.
3. Sushi Hachi : A Foamy Sweet yet Sour sensation!! I took no breaks taking down this beauty, it was definitely hard to stop sipping.
4. RPM ITALIAN : A mixture of sweet and tart, this berry and lemony blend paired perfectly with my meal! And guess what, I ordered it right off of the cocktail menu! Just let your waiter know you’d like it crafted without alcohol.
5. Graces Mandarin : A Virgin Mojito, one of the most common mix-ups I’ve been offered at restaurants when I inquire about mock-tails in DC. So far I’ve landed on 3 spots that offer them and they all taste similar, usually I wouldn’t dare order a mojito, the ones with alcohol never sat right with me! However, the Non-alcoholic Mojitos taste completely different, they’re surprisingly amazing!
Other establishments that serve the Virgin mojito: Ambar, Belga Cafe

Lunch w/ Friends
I was completely taken aback after walking into Kith/Kin ( meaning friends and family) and being acquainted with a hotel/ restaurant mash-up. The child in me didn’t know which area to explore first, after being greeted by the host, I decided that the adventure could wait until after our meal. The walk to our table was definitely a long one, mainly because after peering at the dishes dawning the tables of other guests I worked up an appetite which made the excitement of whats to come a bit stronger. I couldn’t figure out what I was more excited about, the modernly voguish space or the aroma of the Afro-Caribbean cuisine.
Once seated I thought that i’d indulge in a glass of Rose’ , I was more than pleased with the overall taste of this particular glass. Light yet sweet and aromatic, not as dry as others I’ve tried in the past.
For starters I tried the Lobster and Crab slider which turned out to be the perfect choice. Succulent yet distinctive crab and lobster team up with spicy mayo and lettuce to create one of the best sliders that has ever had the pleasure of gracing my palette. I’m pretty sure that the bun used for the sliders and the coco bread are from the same family, both buttery and sweet!
I can’t even come up with a proper description for the Mom Dukes Shrimp! Let me ask you, Have you ever had a dish so pleasing that it made you want to bow upon the person responsible for making it? Like, If nature had a taste this would be it, to truly treasure this moment I closed my eyes between each chew and for a brief moment I forgot where I was, I swore I could hear birds chirping as the warm summer breeze brushed against my skin. Truly an experience, which is how Kith/Kin secured their spot on our list of culinary orgasms.

Oh Olivia
Curious to see what establishment could’ve possibly taken the place of “NOPA” , I decided to give it a shot, to see if it could live up to the same expectations. Imagine my surprise when I walked in, the space beautifully decorated, natural lighting which is what i’m noticing that most of the establishments in this area are missing. A good Feng shui was created in this space leaving the energy very inviting, calming and uplifting. I didn’t feel rushed to finish my meal, in fact I dare you not to spend at least 2 hours here.
To set the mood of course a glass of bubbly was needed, Rose’ to be exact the perfect start to a somber yet sweet afternoon.
In case the Rose’ wasn’t enough, might I interest you in a sparkling glass of Lo Macabeo Chardonnay the perfect pairing for a such a perfect meal.
The house bread/ biscuit wasn’t at all lacking flavor, which instantly put my mind at ease, put in place to prepare diners for what they’ll be getting into.
I am here to announce that after trying the spicy whipped feta this experience was enough to make me drop my napkin from my lap and simply remove myself from within 50 feet of the restaurant after having avid thoughts of kidnapping the person responsible for such a complex dish. I wasn’t aware of how much I loved Feta until it was placed in front of me as a refreshingly zesty spread. It was at this moment that I realized, this chef doesn’t f*ck around. This silky party on a platter is made up of cucumber, feta, and jalapeno, served with crispy lavage coated in olive oil and spice. M M MMMMMMM!
My mouth has honestly never had the pleasure of meeting Dolmades before, so I couldn’t begin to think of what to expect. Once it hit the table I rolled it around a bit to see that the filling was secured safely inside of the Grape Leaves. After dipping one into the Avgolemono I proceeded to try one. Mid-chew I could taste the spiced beef and rice mix up, which slightly reminded me of my grandmothers lettuce wraps only these were a bit earthier and tasted a bit like corned beef hash the sauce added a lemon butter twist to it which I was quite pleased with.
The star of the evening was definitely the Coulotte Steak which was super crispy on the outside, however, when it came to the inside of the meat, the texture was a little inconsistent for medium-well. The buttery -sweet Greek- Style potatoes were my favorite part, indescribably invigorating and with the Avgolemono sauce and Mixed Greens this dish completely changed the perplexity of life, landing Olivia on our list of Culinary Orgasms!

Sei you will
This beautifully decorated establishment is located in the heart of Penn Quarter in Downtown DC, alongside the Shakespeare theater and a few other amazing dining establishments that have graced the tongues of DC locals with tastes from a variety of different backgrounds, a change I’ve been happily open to accepting. I was drawn to enter after peering through the window and noticing the new-age japanese decor. The spacious yet intimate atmosphere, the white to red color scheme, and the happy faces of diners as they ate their meals put me in a state of disbelief. The stress of the world had taken its toll on me this particular week, so seeing something so calmingly beautiful was as if I had the ability to glance into another world, a perfect world... MY perfect world.
Once inside and seated, I simply asked the waiter for something pretty, and out came this beautiful surprise.
The Infamous “Shoga-Tini”
This luscious libation marries pear, roasted pineapple, lemon and ginger liquor together in a pool of bliss. Just what I needed to wash my cares away.
After a drink as smooth as the Shoga-Tini, I thought that the Shrimp Cocktail Sushi Roll would be a perfect pairing , and I was right. Tropical with a refreshing finish.
After being soothed into submission I found myself ready to savor the flavors of the next dish, which happened to be the Bibimbap rice bowl which features short rib, fried egg, kimchi and gochujian chili sauce.
After getting a bit carried away with the Bibimbap I decided to wrap up my experience with the Miso Orange bread pudding, just because I couldn’t imagine what Miso and Orange would taste like together and to my surprise it was actually quite pleasing.
After such a filling experience ,I managed to scoff down every bite of this dessert. Impressive! It was as if butter and caramel decided to join forces with vanilla and citrus, can you imagine? I couldn’t either, which is why we are more than happy to announce Sei Restaurant as the new addition to our list of culinary orgasms.

I’m all about a view, a pool and this top by @prettylittlething I wanted to bring my own vibe to the pool side so I decided to ditch the usual bikini top. Instead I wore my pinstriped bikini bottoms with a black tie up shirt. This look wouldn’t have been complete without my favorite @overdoseeyewear frames, and let’s thank @hanifaofficial for coming through with the statement earrings. Want the complete look? One of the best things about Maketto is that it's basically a one stop shop! It's your restaurant, your cafe', your bar anddddd...from the street, it just looks like you're about to walk into a dope ass clothing store!! The staff makes you feel at home, and the vibeeeee?? Sooo chill, which is why I went for something a little more casual this time. I haddd to pull out the gold bubble coat (thanks @nadinematar) paired with cozy black leather boots from @simmishoes 📸:by @janasimone_ #foodmeatsfashion #fashion #dcrestaurants #foodblogger #maketto1351 (at Maketto)
