I plan to take the viewer on the journey of rediscovering Washington DC, people, places, and things. When people think of DC, their mind automatically goes to politics. Through Neighborhood Favorites, it is my goal to show viewers the DC that I know and love: a world class city with beautiful architecture, stunning culture and nightlife, an exciting dining scene and a thriving fashion industry. Each episode of Neighborhood Favorites will showcase DC through a lens of prosperity and cultural richness.
It is with great disappointment and perturbation that 'The Wharf' has policy and signage stating they do not allow masking. Especially since there are policies and efforts to ensure water ways are protected, the air (smoking is not allowed) and the area was constructed to be wheelchair accessible to ADA standards (all of which are great).
Furthermore there is community outreach, affordable housing, employment, and a focus on community, especially participation by 'The Wharf'. COVID is still a matter of public health concern and there is no way in which policy that bans masking is safe, promotes safety or an enjoyable environment, especially for vulnerable populations and those who practice COVID mitigations.
This inventory is for the state of Minnesota, however it is important to note such an egregious practice as this that excludes the most vulnerable members of the community. It is not only feckless, but incredibly harmful. And based on what some disabled people have said, this mask ban may be grounds for an ADA violation lawsuit.
In an update 'The Wharf' posted a statement to their Twitter account in response to public response:
While it is noteworthy 'The Wharf' responded, the statement is not particularly convincing. Requesting for people to not wear Halloween masks is not entirely unreasonable. Entirely. There should have been a discussion as to the specifics of such a policy.
Perhaps not scaring anyone, and there being guidelines for what kind of Halloween masks were acceptable. Or if it was about littering, this would be entirely understandable. That said, it doesn't seem that was important. If so, the signs would have been edited, not removed. At the very least, I am glad the community stood up for public health. It matters and often works when people band together.
I bet you can tell, especially if you’ve been reading my posts lately, that I’m using Fridays for retrospection. This post is no different, and I think everyone, and I mean almost any tastebud endowed individual, will take interest in today’s category. So far, minus a few rough bumps, 2022 hasn’t been horrible. And my dining affairs deserve a second glance. That’s what this post is all…

Hell yeeehaaa got some photos of a skittery critter I’ve been hunting for a while now!
This is a sea slater, a kind of isopod! For the longest time I had no idea what they were, too skittish for me to get close. Today was just wet and cloudy out for me to corner one on a walkway and herd it into submission for some photos. I chased it back to safety after!
If you look closely at the first photo you can see my awkward photography pose!
