I was introduced to this band in early middle school by my older sister, and without a doubt, they're a band I hold near and dear to me. This song wins apart from others they've done - like L.G. FUAD and Invisible Monsters - is because this was the first song I learned to play on bass guitar. I still remember how to play it six years later, too.The Mountain Goats - You Were Cool

Now, I have a lot I could say about The Mountain Goats, because I unconditionally love The Mountain Goats and everything that John Darnielle's done as a singer-songwriter. But this song wins because the subject matter makes me want to address my old high school self, to remind him that better days are ahead, as well as tell all my friends still in high school that there is hope on the horizon.Weezer - The Good Life

Dunno if Weezer's gotten to the point where enjoying their music is considered a guilty pleasure, but I love them nonetheless. Their second album, Pinkerton, holds a place in my heart (as well as an album that I dub "emo"). This song also holds true to my romantic notion that I need to address my past, broken-down self and tell him that things can turn around.
