A father comes home

A mother serves dinner

And children smile cheek to cheek

A shared peace is quiet

And we understand each other

So, there is no reason to speak

And judgments don’t come from color

Happiness is when…

The innocence of a child is kept

Learning to spell acceptance before oppression

You scratch a cat’s chin

And its head goes up

Or when you rest your hand by its head

And it curls into your palm

Happiness is when…

Time stops

You concentrate on the present

Life slows down

And you appreciate grass growing
