Loaded Films co-production “Ten Years Japan”

We are very proud to announce Loaded Films' involvement in new international co-production "Ten Years Japan” (『十年 日本-仮』). Based on the concept of controversial Hong Kong feature “Ten Years”, “Ten Years Japan” brings together five young directors whose short segments create a fascinating vision of Japan a decade from now. “Magic Kimono” Released on June 24 2017 in Tokyo!

舞台挨拶も決定！

We are pleased to announce that Loaded Films’ first feature co-production “Magic Kimono” (”Futari no Tabiji��) will be released in cinemas this Saturday June 24th in Shibuya (Eurospace) and Ginza (Marunouchi TOEI). The film stars Kaori Momoi (”Ghost in the Shell,” “Memoirs of a Geisha”) and Issey Ogata (”Silence,” “The Sun”) and is written and directed by Maris Martinsons. 

“Magic Kimono” will also be released in Yokohama, Chiba, Utsunomiya, Osaka, Kobe (where the film’s Japan scenes are set), Nagoya, Sendai, Morioka, and Matsuyama. Check the official site for more details (Japanese only, but information on English-subtitled screenings coming soon).

Translation and international festival engagements for Shiro Maeda’s “Kako: My Sullen Past”

Mar 4, 2016 Loaded Films is handling English translation and international festival engagements for writer-director Shiro Maeda’s “Kako: My Sullen Past” (”Fukigen na Kako” 『ふきげんな過去』), starring Fumi Nikaido and Kyoko Koizumi. The film marks Maeda’s second as director -- his previous credits include “The Extreme Sukiyaki ” and “A Story of Yonosuke” (screenplay). “Kako: My Sullen Past” is produced by King Records and Tokyo Theatres. Distributor Tokyo Theatres will release the film this June 25 as part of the company’s 70th year celebrations.

World Premiere of Kaori Momoi's "火 Hee" in Berlinale 2016

Jan 19, 2016 Japanese actress and film maker Kaori Momoi makes her return to the Berlin International Film Festival (Feb. 11-21) with her second directorial effort, "火 Hee". The film will screen as a world premiere in the Forum programme.

Jan 6, 2016 Loaded Films is handling international festival bookings for 火 Hee, written and directed by, and starring Kaori Momoi. 火 Hee is Kaori Momoi’s second film as director, following 2006’s Faces of a Fig Tree.

3D documentary “The Great Tsunami” international premiere

Nov 29, 2015 We’re pleased to announce that the international premiere of Atsunori Kawamura’s 3D documentary feature “The Great Tsunami in Japan: Reflecting on the 2011 disaster” will take place at the International 3D Festival (I3DF) in Liège Belgium, Dec 16-17. Loaded Films was hired to consult on and secure the film’s first international screening. “The Great Tsunami” was produced by NHK Technologies. Congratulations to everyone involved!

“Magic Kimono” in post-production

Nov 28, 2015 Loaded Films co-production “Magic Kimono” is currently in the editing stage, with soundtrack composition set to commence next month. 

Earlier this month, the film was selected for the inaugural edition of the international Works in Progress program at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Screen International covered the news here.

Written and directed by Maris Martinsons, “Magic Kimono” stars Kaori Momoi and Issey Ogata, reuniting the pair on screen for the first time since Alexander Sokurov’s “The Sun” (2005). Filmed in Latvia and Kobe, “Magic Kimono” marks the first ever Baltic-Japan co-production and is set for international festival screenings and theatrical release in 2016.

Loaded Films in production on feature “Magic Kimono”

Aug 31, 2015 Loaded Films is currently in production in Latvia on Maris Martinson’s feature film “Magic Kimono,” starring Kaori Momoi and Issey Ogata. Filming relocates to Kobe, Japan, later in September. “Magic Kimono” marks the first ever Baltic-Japan co-production and is set for international festival screenings and theatrical release in 2016.

Loaded Films feature documentary production “The Land of Idols”

June 2nd, 2015 Loaded Films is excited to announce new feature documentary film production, The Land of Idols, directed by Jean-Armand Bougrelle. The subject matter of the film is described as follows:

“From sprawling urban Tokyo to the rural hamlets of Japan, from record breaking mega girl-bands to underground idols of Akihabara, The Land of Idols offers a journey through one of the most significant creations of Japanese pop culture.”

Bougrelle, a produced screenwriter and longtime resident of Japan, draws on his film and TV experience to explore his deep interest in the idol phenomenon. 

A crowdfunding campaign has just been launched on Indiegogo, offering more details on the film and people involved, a series of promotional videos, and a variety of perks for contributors. We welcome your support!

The Land of Idols begins shooting this month.

Issey Ogata joins the cast of “Magic Kimono”

May 18th, 2015 Actor Issey Ogata has joined the cast of Loaded Films co-production Magic Kimono, written and directed by Maris Martinsons.

Ogata, who plays a key role in Martin Scorsese’s recently wrapped Silence, will star alongside lead actress Kaori Momoi. The pair previously appeared together in Alexander Sokurov’s The Sun.

Oscar-nominated “Tangerines” to screen at EU Film Days in Tokyo and Kyoto

May 4th, 2015 Georgian director Zaza Urushadze’s Tangerines (original title Mandariinid) will screen as part of EU Film Days 2015, which takes place in Tokyo (May 29 - June 21) and Kyoto (July 7-12). Details on the film and screening dates can be found here (Japanese only until May 12).

Loaded Films provided Japanese subtitle and catalog notes translation for the Estonia-Georgia production, which will also screen with English subtitles. Tangerines was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards and 72nd Golden Globe Awards for best foreign language film, both firsts for an Estonian film.

Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs supports LF co-production “Magic Kimono”

April 13th, 2015 Loaded Films feature co-production Magic Kimono has been selected to receive the Agency for Cultural Affairs (Government of Japan) Co-Production Subsidy.

Magic Kimono is directed by Maris Martinsons and stars Kaori Momoi. As reported by Screen International and Cineuropa this February, Magic Kimono marks the first ever Japan-Baltics co-production. The producers are Linda Krukle for Latvia’s KrukFilms, Eiko Mizuno Gray and Jason Gray for Japan’s Loaded Films, and Sten Saluveer for Estonia’s Oree Films.

Other recipients of the subsidy include new films from directors Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Alejandro Jodorowsky, and a Japan-Taiwan project co-produced by Shochiku studios.

Translation of Yuki Tanada's "Romance"

Feb 26th, 2015 Loaded Films will create the English subtitles and translate support materials for director Yuki Tanada's Romance (working export title), as well as book the film's international festival premiere. Based on an original screenplay by Tanada, the film stars former AKB48 member Yuko Oshima (Pale Moon) as a train car sales clerk and Koji Okura as a shady movie producer who embark on an unplanned road trip through Hakone. Romance is produced by Toei Video and will be released by Tokyo Theatres this fall. Nikkatsu is handling international sales.

Update: The official English export title is Round Trip Heart. The film will have two market screenings at the upcoming Hong Kong Filmart (Mar. 23-26).
