I'm Mels; you'll mostly find artwork on my blog, but occasionally fandom items. Expect to see a lot of Subeta and GW2.

I sure vanished for a bit! Unfortunately I hurt my back in February (It was minor, but still hurt like shit.) and took almost 4 weeks to heal back up. Slowly working on getting back into the groove of everything. Here is a self portrait of me :)

Another Funguary goblin. This one is for the Podoserpula Pusio. I missed a few days. If I get time I’d like to make them up, but we’ll see! Had to take some time to heal from an old surgery scar deciding to fight me OTL

New character! Yolk :) A humble bee farmer. This character was designed for Funguary and is based off the Elegant Blue Webcap, which honestly kind of looked like an alien fried egg to me, hence the name Yolk haha. Big thank you to Feefal for the wonderful inspiration / challenge :)

Finished this one a bit ago, but I haven’t been feeling well lately so I’ve been slow doing stuff lol. This is a 1500 piece from Buffalo called “Places you will go”. This was absolutely a gorgeous puzzle. Very fun to build, very vibrant colors. At first glance I worried it might be hard with certain colors (like the oranges for example) but there was plenty of texture and color variation for it to be fully engaging and fun :)

During October last year, I hosted an event with some friends. Here were the prizes that I drew out / recently finished! Image on the left was for my friend Reaper! She wanted a character designed from scratch based off of the prompt “Prehistoric / Zombie / Triceratops”. Image on the right was for my friend Celestial! She wanted me to help revamp / redesign an existing character of hers that only had a sketch. The character needed to follow the original concept which was “Winged Big Cat / Warrior / Spear Wielder”

Some fan art of the NPC Maleria on Subeta! I was sitting around last week and realized I don’t see much fan art for Subeta anymore. I figured the best way to change that is to draw some fan art myself :)

I finished this one two days ago, but I got too lazy to post it. This is a 1000 piece from Buffalo called Vintage Birdwatcher. I really enjoy this company’s puzzles. They’ve got a lot of options for images that I personally enjoy (more colorful and artistic). The quality is always really good in my opinion, and they’re a very affordable price for me (especially since I often find them on sale). My only negative with these puzzles is that the 1000 piece puzzles often come in really small boxes that barely fit the pieces and they’re glued shut which means you can never get the box apart as nicely as I’d hope. But that’s a very small negative to me.

Sorry for horrible picture quality. I’ve only got my phone and it sucks. B) Anyways, this puzzle was a 500 piece by Sure Lox called Alpine Vistas. I didn’t have super high hopes on quality for this one if I’m honest, since I’d read a few reviews on the brand. But with those low expectations, I ended up being happy with what I got out of the puzzle. My husband was able to find this puzzle marked down to only $1, and for that price it feels like it was a good puzzle. The pieces are pretty thin, but I was lucky enough to only have some very minor damage on one of the pieces and the rest were fine. I also timed myself on this one, and it took 2 hours and 55 minutes from start to finish. (Kind of why I personally don’t get ones lower than 1,000 pieces, but since this was only $1, we figured why not.) My only gripe with this puzzle was a personal one. The cardboard made my hands a lot more irritated and itchy than any other puzzles I’ve done. (I have a very mild allergy to wood/paper dust) And for that reason alone, even though the puzzle was nicer quality than I’d anticipated, I wouldn’t purchase from this brand again. Might be worth it for people without an allergy though!

First finished pieces of art for the year! I started all three pieces back in December with their sketch, and I finished them up in the last few days. :) All three characters belong to me; Epiphos (he/him), Thyra (she/her or they/them), Orwyne (she/her)

Going to start off my returning posts with a puzzle! This is the first puzzle I built in 2023. It is a 1000 piece by Ravensburger called Beautiful Mushrooms. This puzzle was a gift from my husband for Christmas last year. :) It’s my first Ravensburger puzzle. The pieces are very nice quality and this has to be one of my favorite puzzle artworks that I own so far. (My picture doesn’t do it justice!) I have some wood / paper allergies (very mild) that usually get activated by puzzle dust, but I have to admit that this puzzle didn’t irritate my hands at all. (Usually sorting pieces makes my hands very irritated but I didn’t experience that this time.) This puzzle feels like it would be a really good one for people who are just dipping their toes into larger puzzles, as there is a very good color variety that makes it easy to complete sections without getting stuck or frustrated. The only mild disappointment that I had with this puzzle was that the pieces didn’t lock together super great until very large chunks of the puzzle were put together. It made it a smidge annoying when I was trying to move sections into place, as sometimes they would crumble and I’d need to redo those sections. Once it was more together though, that seemed to go away. Overall, very happy with this puzzle and I’d buy more from this brand in the future :)

Returning to Tumblr
I don’t know how many people who follow me are still here on Tumblr, but I’m going to be trying to make a return to here. I took about a two year break from all social medias for mental health reasons, and at the end of it I think I’ve decided that I’ll just be trying to stick to the one I enjoyed the most, which was here. No promises I’ll stick around, as I sometimes just get so wrapped up in my own head in places like this that I need long breaks, but we’ll see what happens! I’ll be posting some RL stuff and some online stuff. So expect to see a bit of everything from me instead of just art. I’m trying to break the habit of encouraging others to only see me as some kind of art machine. :)
