Thoughts on Trent?

In the show? Not a lot. He really has nothing going on, he has the personality of cardboard and the agency of a bag of rocks.

Incidentally that makes him a perfect blank slate to project a bunch of really neat character ideas onto. My take on Trent is like 50% Trent Lane from Daria (who Trent TD is such a blatant rip-off of I am surprised there was no legal action), 40% bio and 10% reading too far into some of his lines and interactions on the show.

I like him as this guy who sees himself as a soulful, profound artist. He thinks he's this generation's John Lennon or Justin Timberlake. But like all teenagers he tends to be melodramatic and take his music way too seriously. And he's surprisingly capable of holding a grudge too!

Trent certainly is the character of all time. He's what you make of him.

Okay, I know that I edited Julia out of this (for Aubrey :P), but I have to ask, who from here do you ship with who (you can include Julia or Aubrey or both)

Pretending for a moment that Julia is here, I was really big Julayne shipper when the first season came out. Now I'm not as enthusiastic about them, both as a ship and as individual characters since they were used so poorly in S2, but I try to ignore that and stay positive about it.

Oh yeah and obviously Raj and Bowie deserve each other and everything. It's both a great canon couple and great rep, what more could you ask for? I think Raj was underused in S2 and really lost a chance to shine on his own without Bowie, I think more fanfics should explore him as an individual character while expanding their relationship.

Thoughts on the Total Drama subreddit 😬

Oh boy, I have thoughts alright and none of them are particularly good ones. It's one of the worst fandom subreddits I have ever seen. Good fanart that would easily net over a thousand upvotes on most fandom subs struggles to get into the low hundreds at best. Meanwhile, low effort spam and engagement bait thrives and makes the front page on a nearly daily basis.

The moderation is incompetent and lazy, letting the aforementioned spam thrive and doing nothing to remove it or ban the users responsible for it. Posts that have almost nothing to do with TD and are mostly about Pokemon or Ben 10 or some other franchise are left up. Most subs would remove such posts for being off topic, but on the Total Drama subreddit anything goes I guess.

In the comments section you'll find a bunch of people who repeat the same few popular opinions and who hate to have any sort of productive discussion about the show. Never before have I met fans so utterly allergic to creativity or nuance.

And the most nightmarish part about it is that it's one of the better platforms to engage with Total Drama fans on. For all the shit I've talked about the r/TotalDrama, it's the cream of the crop. The youtube scene is a stale wasteland of the same bland opinions as the reddit but with somehow even less variety, and Twitter and TikTok are pure unfiltered brainrot.

The state of the Total Drama fandom has never been great, but speaking as a long time veteran it is a shell of its former self.

Overall thoughts for Ezekiel's feral arc?

Terrible, awful, no good arc. I've made posts ranting about it being bad before and I haven't changed my mind since. Easily the worst story to happen to a character in all of TD and it's not even close. Unfunny, mean spirited and spiteful writing that didn't even do a good job at being a Gollum reference.

Bro, as someone who ships Chref (original, I know.) Terry is such an asshole when it comes to some ships, he’s gone out of his way to shut down so many people for no reason 😭

This man needs to learn how to ignore and let people have fun.

I don't even think his opinions are particularly offensive or hurtful in the grand scheme of things. If any random fan said this it would be annoying but ultimately insignificant.

But when he's constantly presenting himself as this sort of social media ambassador to the fandom, it makes a lot of his comments come across as being in really poor taste. It looks even worse when you notice how for some ships (cough MKulia cough) he'll endlessly praise and hype up the ship and call it the best thing to ever happen to the fandom, even going so far as to tease the possibility of making it real in season 3, but will then vaguely neg on other ships if they're not what he personally likes.

Having the producers picking favorites in the fandom just feels dirty and intrusive.

I really liked how you rewrote Ezekiel in FWOAM, how would this version of the character progress in future seasons, if he’s even in any of them?

MAJOR FWOAM SPOILERS, READ AHEAD AT OWN DISCRETION! No I don't think he would come back for more seasons, but I absolutely want to continue the character's story. I think he'd definitely stay in touch with Beth, but his parents wouldn't allow him to have a cell phone so they have to stay in touch via letters. Beth actually doesn't mind it too much, she enjoys the old school retro feel of it a bit and even buys a Polaroid camera to send pictures with her letters...sometimes they're a little spicy too ;).

Once he's old enough to be independent and move out, he'd travel around the world doing humanitarian and charity work. That may seem a little random but in his Island bio it says he speaks 8 languages, and so he'd want to put them to use visiting places where they're spoken natively. I also think that in their letters Beth would tell him a lot about the wider world outside Canada, and he'd be very curious to get out there and experience it.

Thank you so much for answering my question! I can't describe how much I love For Want Of a Mohawk. I've grown so attached to your versions of the characters that I've been wondering how a continuation would go, and now that you've set a basis for the cast as well as what you might do with them I'm going to come up with how I think it would play out.

Let me know whenever you post that, I'd love to read interesting fan takes on the characters!

As for me, if ever I return to the FWOAM cast and want to continue their story I will probably write slice of life stuff after the show to continue their stories with.

Oh lol that makes a lot more sense. Well it all really depends how I would go about it? Following up from FWOAM itself? Diverging from a point in canon like FWOAM did but we start somewhere in action?

If I had to write Action as a follow-up to FWOAM with the Gen 1 cast, I don't actually think I could because I don't have enough material for them left to make both Action and World Tour interesting, and World Tour is by far the better option so I would just skip straight from Island to WT.

Okay fine, so if you put a gun to my head and forced me to write Action as a follow-up to FWOAM with the Gen 1 cast, how would I do it to make it not shit? Well I think I'd beef up the cast a bit by adding Katie, Sadie, Cody and Tyler. While I don't mind the overabundance of non-elimination episodes Action has in canon, they're much harder to make interesting when writing so having a bigger cast helps. Plus, I want Katie to have some time to shine outside her relationship with Noah, and Sadie to get further than either of them in her second time around. Plus Cody and Tyler were egregiously screwed by FWOAM's elimination order, and I have much more material for them in compfic still waiting to be used.

But I could still do all of that in World Tour and have it be better, so I guess my answer is like "make Action a watered down version of World Tour" which feels kinda underwhelming but, that's all I got right now.

Now, if I were to make a FWOAM style canon divergence starting from a point within canon Action? Now that I haven't considered before but...

Yeah I would make the divergence happen in Total Drama Drama Drama Drama Island. The divergence is the aforementioned characters ending up in the water when the briefcase is destroyed so Chris invites them to action. And fuck it, since I have literally no material, I am gonna make Sadie the main villain instead of Justin or Courtney. I don't know where I'd go from there but at least it'd give the season another antagonist to shake things up and drive conflict, which is something I think canon Action desperately lacks.

Anyways this post ended up way more long and rambly than I meant it to. I just think Action is the weakest season for making fanfic out of so I don't have a really concrete, decisive answer.

It absolutely is in the works, how long it will take I can't say but rest assured anon I will deliver a better take on Season 2 of the reboot than the dumpster fire we got.
