It follows a young female hyena in the Kuweka Jua Clan and the trials she faces from her tyrannical Matriarch, and a dictatorial lion pride after her expulsion because of a framed murder. Here’s a little tale from FossilClan for a better understanding of my children.

The Legend of The Extinction

Long ago, the world was ruled by great animals, larger than the largest cat, taller than the most towering of mountains. They had teeth sharper than claws and eyes that could spot a mouse a mountain away. Some had feathers like that of a hawk, pretty and adorned with gradients of colors. Some had spikes and horns like icicles that glistened in the light and could pierce flesh with ease. Some even had erected claws on their hind paws that could slice open just about anything. 

But these beasts, though they had ruled the world long, met another challenger for the control of the lands. Cats with fangs longer than the longest tail of a cat’s there ever was, deer with antlers wide and spiky as a vast stretch of peaks, large, woolly beasts with tusks that stretched longer than a tree is tall, large spotted dogs with a tendency to rip apart and devour their prey while it was alive, and wolves twice the size of those around today. Both were formidable and feared by the other, but the world was changing and there had to be one ruler.

Both sides put up a tremendous fight. There were hundreds of battles and some lasted for moons upon end. Teeth met flesh, claws met spikes, and foe met worthy foe. In the end, the two sides were nearly as powerful as each other, and they both lost. By the time the rivalries came to an end, there was hardly anyone left on either side. Some of the survivors died off, as they could not adapt to the changing world. Some say a giant rock the size of a mountain fell from the sky and killed some of the creatures, others say they simply could not keep up with other things like the intensifying changing of seasons or floods or avalanches. Despite this, some of the survivors adapted to their world. Feathered beasts became the smaller birds, and sabered cats became the cats, big and small, that roam the lands today. Some left behind their skulls for us to remember them by and keep the spirits of our departed safe, guarding us with the horns and teeth and spikes they left behind so long ago.

first concept for this ever. It sucks but I still am kind of fond of it.

Gray cat is Sabertooth. She was originally deputy, and Mammothpaw near Bonepaw at the top of the right corner was named Lizardpaw. The purple-gray cat resting was Cycadswoop, then Flipkit, then named Finkit, and Fossilkit.

Tigerkit is literally so cute I’m going to explode and I haven’t even seen her face yet

I guarantee you will maybe have a mini-explosion when she is fully introduced I love her. Just wait until she’s an apprentice, she’ll be adorable with a little sticking out fang :)

Fossilkit is cute but I will not disagree with you, he has something going on and not in a particularly good way. Like in a… yeah, maybe a cursed way lol.

Why did Cycadswoop name him Fossilkit? Especially if it’s considered unorthodox. Was it to honor their home?

She named him Fossilkit to honor the Clan and in a deeper way to prove she is loyal, though she is the only one to doubt her loyalty to FossilClan. This is probably a good opportunity to reveal she was not born in FossilClan, she joined the Clan when she was around 7 moons and befriended Pinepaw quickly.

The reason Fossilkit’s name was problematic was because it is seen as an omen by superstitious cats, which Wooltuft 100% is. They also insisted it was solely because of his name because he didn’t want to say he had seen a vision/omen about a young kit in fear of scaring anyone. Great question!

…how about that Fossilkit, huh? Also changed the colors because I like it much better and I think it fits with FossilClan’s foresty/rugged territory anyway.

I’m aware Cycadswoop’s kits probably aren’t genetically correct but i don’t care. Let me make them cute how I want.

FAQ

Why do they live in a fossil? What animal is the fossil from?

They live in a fossil because that is cool and it’s also surprisingly structurally integral. Also it made the ground around it good for making dens I think.

It’s the fossil of a Gorgosaurus. One may think it’s a T. rex but it’s not, because I said so and it’s more accurate for where they inhabit.

Do they view fossils as a religious thing?

This will be exploited more later on but for the most part, yes. They have no idea what they are because they are barely sentient goof beings but they view it as a sanctimonious relic I suppose.

Where did you find the inspiration for Fossil Cats?

Autism and some adhd.

Prehistoric stuff and animals in general have been my yap fuel for all my life.

When does the comic update?

Fossil Cats updates weekly with no specific set time so it can be flexible. 

Is this a ClanGen comic?

Sure. It’s not really but it’s based off the game so sure.

What inspired you to make this comic?

I am fueled by autism and my destructive obsession with prehistoric stuff.
