"Be/Longing": Summer Photography Show
Featuring new work by Nina Dietzel, Darija Jelincic and Anne Veraldi
  Opening reception for the artists:
Friday, July 11th, 6 to 8pm
Fouladi Projects is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by three women photographers. The works in the show vary in content, but all investigate the human issues of isolation, containment and longing. Inherent in our existence is the need to balance the conundrum between being an individual, physically separate, yet also requiring a vital connection to others to thrive. Nina Dietzel's "Paris Series" diptychs juxtapose images which cleverly reveal the universal tension between masculine and feminine archetypes. Darija Jelincic's works on view are from her "Escapes" series, beautifully capturing vignettes of human culture clustered together against the great expanse of the sea and the sky. Anne Veraldi's photographs are a selection from her “Outside-In Series", which depict both found and remnant artifacts encapsulated within the iconic mason jar, as a way of preserving wistful memories from the past.
Nina Dietzel has contributed photography to The Huffington Post, The Culturist, AFAR Magazine and has collaborated with British sculptor and environmentalist Andy Goldsworthy to document his latest Bay Area installation.
Darija Jelincic was born in Zagreb, Croatia. During her studies of Sociology at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences she started to take photography classes. She naturally combined these two passions, and has since artfully manifested her fascination with human nature and culture into her photography. She was part of two workshops with Agency VII. She now lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic.
Anne Veraldi has shown her work in New York and Los Angeles as well as San Francisco. She received a New York Foundation grant and has completed public art projects in San Francisco and New York. Her photos have been featured in Color magazine.
Exhibition runs July 8th – August 30th

Rudi Molacek paintings from Berlin at Fouladi Projects gallery
Tumblr media
“malen wir”
New paintings by Rudi Molacek
On view will be a new suite of large works 56” x 48” on canvas fresh from Rudi’s studio in Berlin.
Originally from Vienna, Austria, artist Rudi Molacek embodies the spirit of a true romantic. He approaches his luminous oil paintings with unencumbered confidence, employing bold and gestural brush strokes buoyed by a dash of whimsy. His life long love of gardens is channeled into paint, translating his appreciation of nature onto the canvas. The paintings radiate with the timeless virtues of color, of light and the simple yet essential joy of a flower in bloom.
Show will be on view through July 5th, 2014

Jemima Kirke show at Fouladi Projects Gallery
Fouladi Projects is pleased to present Platforms portraits by painter and RISD alumni Jemima Kirke Exhibition runs March 21 - May10, 2014
A shared thematic perspective runs through Kirke's portraits. The female sitters somehow embody - with their varied, often dour expressions - vulnerability, frustration and suppressed longing thinly disguised beneath cool faux-sophisticated facades. Empathy is the distinguishing feature, one that imbues them with both dignity and life. They exist in depth, not just as marks on the surface. It is impressive to see how effective Kirke has been in creating a mood as she transforms observation and insight into painted images. It makes her art worth looking at and taking seriously.
Tumblr media
Part of her method is her attention to physical flaws, imperfections, which she describes as "part of our individuality". She abandons the traditional goal of rendering the subject "accurately" and aims for "capturing her presence in the room, her expressions, our relationship". This willingness to reinterpret the idea of "likeness" is an important element of Kirke's portraiture.

"No Should be As Friendly As Yes"
New Work by Karen Barbour
January 10 - March 1, 2014
Opening Reception for the artist:
Friday, January 10th, 6 to 8pm  Please join us for "No Should Be As Friendly As Yes", an intriguing exhibition of recent paintings by Bay Area artist, Karen Barbour. Karen is a prolific painter and a devoted keeper of sketchbooks filled with the thoughts, observations and drawings she utilizes for reference. Her process leads her to work on many pieces simultaneously, visiting them and revisiting them as they call to her. She is inspired by ongoing dreams and memories, both old and new, and the recollections play out on the paper and canvases like a narrative of her subconscious. The imagery is a surrealist mix of figures and abstractions, fluidly rendered with skillful combinations of gouache, ink, oil and collage.  Karen received her MFA from the SFAI and worked for many years as a successful illustrator in NYC. Her work has been shown in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, and other cities.  Show runs until March 1st, 2014

SEN by Lisa Solomon
“I like leaving long threads as a tribute to the process. They often make me think of memory, of the passage of time… They will never lay exactly the same way… I also gravitate toward the dimensionality of them. They instantly pull a drawing off of the wall and force something flat into space.” ~ Lisa Solomon. A great article by Monique Delaunay. http://sfartenthusiast.com/2013/11/lisa-solomon-sen-at-fouladi-projects/

"SEN' Exhibition in the process of being installed.
Exhibition opens November 15th.
"Lisa’s art practice is an ongoing investigation of gender archetypes and hybridizations, as well as an examination into her own personal history. Through obsessive repetition and re-contextualization, she takes traditional feminine handicrafts and elevates them into the realm of fine art. For this exhibition, Lisa hones in on Japan’s historical and cultural fixation on the number 1000."
