unpop op: Murderbot is a lot of fun but becomes a same-y slog about halfway through book 3. I think it doesn't develop enough themes or expand the world or vary the rhythm and POV, or whatever series need to do to avoid the atmosphere getting stale. Still worth reading.

Other cartoons by the creators of this, whom I actually never heard of until now, are unwatchably bad on almost every level from overall quality to their dated caricatures and weird libertarian takes but this Warhammer parody they're doing now has some of the funniest jokes I've seen and spot-on skewering of Games Workshop's worldbuilding. The self aware jabs at themselves are also pretty funny

I notice the first episode has casual slurs but the second doesn't. The second is also funnier as a whole and has more interesting "critique" of this kind of grimdark universe, a lot of focus on the Least Terrible of the four main characters and how hard he's struggling with his status quo. I keep seeing some of tumblr's biggest assholes unironically loving aspects of it that are very bluntly making fun of people like them. That sure happens a lot, doesn't it.

Apparently its existence is at least partially in response to the owners of Warhammer forcing fan animations to be taken down. That explains the overall surge in Warhammer parodies I've been seeing and also how un-affectionate they feel. Wow who could have seen that coming? They really dug their own grave didn't they.
