For anyone who hasn't seen them before, Hidden Search Operators are handy tricks you can use when you're either searching or filtering AO3.

summary: string is a generic way of explaining that you can search AO3 for a specific word that appears in a summary. You can do this from the search bar in the header, from the Any Field box at the top of the Advanced Search form, or from the Search Within Results box at the bottom of the filter menu.

Examples:

summary: Bruce

summary: "Bruce Banner"

summary: Bruce OR summary: Banner OR summary: Hulk

You need to put quotation marks around your search term if it is more than one word. The quotes make sure that the site searches for those two words together.

The other two operators listed work best in the Search Within Results box.

expected_number_of_chapters: 1 will return results where every fic has only 1 chapter currently posted.

You can use expected_number_of_chapters: -1 if you want results where every fic has more than 1 chapter currently posted.

otp:true will return results where there is only 1 relationship tag on the fic. If you want results where there are 2+ relationship tags (and no fics with only 1 relationship tag) then you can use otp:false

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

It has been less than 24 hours since I started pondering headcanons about Yohan’s mother and now I’m already planning a fic and I can’t fucking wait to take a shot at this

right.. this ignites a small candle light in me like— i wanna draw yohan & isaac interaction. the no eyebrows comment lmao, adorable!

imagine yohan growing up and following isaac around like a quiet puppy, body language calm and quiet but eyes speaking volumes of his wonder & curiosity. or if he pulls at the hem of isaac's shirt as his older brother does chores/ peeking on his homework while isaac smiles through the frustration of alchemy/algebra, only to discover yohan likes seeing complicated things bcs yohan is very entertained by isaac's most hated subjects of learning. yohan is trying to be polite to isaac when he's not interested in his older brother's favorite subjects, so he just lingers in the bedroom with a book he snatch from isaac's bag and sit on the bed. only peeking up once to see what's isaac reading, dark eyes meeting with isaac's own with such poker face in his young age. isaac wonders what great things yohan will accomplish one day and hopes he'll be there to celebrate all of it with yohan.

this feels like such an easter egg for me! definitely gonna comeback to draw this one day, thankyou op!

Zero context WIP game ! Thank you @clawbehavior for the tag, excited to do this because I've got like 10 different wips and kept resisting the temptation to post snippets. These fics don't have definitive titles yet so the ones here are approximative descriptions

1. Ms Ji & the Kangs

“Yohan-ah, I love you, don’t cry” Isaac says, patting his baby brother’s stomach when he fusses. They’re both laying on Isaac’s bed after lunch, a bit drowsy in the early hours of the afternoon. Young-Ok watches the two as she folds laundry.

“Nanny, why does Yohan have no eyebrows ?” Isaac asks curiously.

She chuckles at the question, taking a tiny pair of socks out of the basket and folding them together. “Most babies are born without much hair, he’ll grow them later on.”

2. Conversations

Gaon swipes ‘accept call’ and props his phone against a utensil holder as Elijah’s lovely face comes into view. She has cut her hair into a bob, even bangs forming a curtain on her forehead.

“Gaon, it's an emergency ! You need to come to Geneva and do something !” Elijah’s voice immediately comes through the phone speaker, loud enough to be heard over the sound of meat sizzling on the stove. “Yohan is serious about growing that ugly mustache and the clinic receptionist keep trying to hit on him !”

Gaon chuckles at the photo. It’s blurry like the objective had gone out of focus at the last minute. Yohan is giving the camera a smile and scrunching his nose, eyes closed under his fringe like he’s shielding them from the flash. Some milk teeth are missing from his gums, two permanent ones just peeking above the surface. He must have been no more than six or seven here.  

4. Gaon scrolls online forums

"Judge Oh, I have this file I wanted discuss with you"

Jinjoo comes up behind him to see just as he is about to unlock his computer. What greets Gaon after entering his password is the previous night's research topic brightly displayed on the screen. Shit. Carelessly, he had simply shut the laptop before going to bed, instead of closing the tabs and erasing his search history.

Panic and embarrassment seize Gaon on the spot. He's about two hundred-percent certain that Jinjoo got a glimpse of what was written on the screen. Omegaverse fanfiction of him and their boss. Gaon wants to explode.

"You have…a lot of open tabs, Judge Kim."

5. Another snippet from Conversations

“You have something under your eye”

“Hmm ?” Yohan hums, closing said eye when Gaon’s thumb gently swipes across his skin.

“Eyelash.” Gaon flicks it away “crap I should’ve told you to make a wish”

They’re laying on the couch in a tangle of limbs, Gaon on top of Yohan like a weighted blanket, chest to chest, book long abandoned on the coffee table. Kkomi is on the armrest behind Yohan’s head, sniffing at his hair. Gaon yawns into Yohan’s collar.

“We should go to bed.” Yohan says, voice hoarse.  

6. Sunah lives

It is routine until her ears catch familiar voices, ones she thought she would never hear again, along with the cries of a fussy child.

“Gaon-ah, give her to me”

Sunah turns around to see, to her surprise, peering over the café’s balcony, Kang Yohan, his niece, his former associate, passing over an agitated toddler.

“I told you we should have brought her stroller,” Kim Gaon’s reprimands are a refreshing thing to hear “She gets tired.”

“It would have been inconvenient though, with all the stairs and narrow streets.” Kang Elijah chimes in. She is on crutches now, standing just a few centimeters shy of her uncle’s height.

“That’s fine” Kang Yohan hauls up the little girl against his chest so that her head rests on his shoulder, pats her back. “Appa will be the stroller today."

based on one of my fav harringrove fics, a baby shows up on yohan's doorstep with big brown eyes and wispy hair. concerned, he takes the child in and does his own digging for the parents. but with no luck, the baby stays under yohan's care. elijah thinks he's so adorable, and gaon isn't not himself, per se, but yohan does notice a quieter difference in him.

yohan takes to the baby so easily. after all, he helped raised elijah. giving them a bottle and changing diapers is second nature at this point. but it sticks in his head that gaon's hesitantly, so very unlike him. he interacts with the child, cautiously. and maybe it's a product of gaon never having grown up around children - an only child, after all.

but yohan also knows there's something else. something gaon isn't telling him. he doesn't prod like he normally would. instead, gives gaon the space he needs to adapt. yohan's not quite sure if the baby should stay under his care. it's quite the predicament, and even further suspicious when he starts noticing the baby's characteristics and personality, very much like baby elijah, even more so like isaac. but definitely that of gaon and himself.

the baby has an identical mole on his neck as yohan. the color of his eyes are the same rich, dark brown shade that regards yohan with curiosity, caution and love. yohan has his suspicions, as absurd as they are. until gaon confesses in the midst of a baby's wail, unable to calm him down and overwhelmed with the prospect of this new life.

on an accidental whim, gaon might've wished for a family. unbeknownst to him that yohan promised himself he'd keep gaon forever. and instead of the universe granting the normalcy that is their family, it extended it by one - a blend of yohan and gaon in a tiny human who showed up on yohan's doorstep just as perfect as the day gaon did, too.

I hope one day I can sit down & take my time to draw the scenes I love from the TDj fics I've written. So far I haven't been able too, mostly bcs I'm out of depth with background paintings.. But I do feel during these years I'm getting better & more confident w/creating arts, poses, & exploring

I'm excited over the fact that I'm actually able to pour out the poses in my head with less difficulties now. I believe I'll keep getting better and that means I can pour out any visuals in my head more or less.

I have been thinking of several projects for Gahan ship. There's several ideas in my head but the most prominent ones right now involves idol/model/famous gaon x very handsome/hot mysterious husband!yohan. Then the winter project gahan I put on hold. I got overwhelmed bcs that project humbles me down that I need to learn more about art fundamentals. Planning to get back on that project, I've sketched out several thumbnails. I plan to keep doing it anyway even if it takes me years and to share it with you. Some of the projects will be free to download, some you can purchase for HD pics, some will include a few paragraphs of shortfic there.

I haven't touched physical merchandise bcs I lack a lot of knowledge in that area, so this is in the tentative area but definitely considering this for future projects. I haven't got the time, interest to research about the oversea shipping, plus I haven't got the funds to spare for the shipping failures/merchandise experiments.

Not sure if the fandom is still gonna be active by the time I'm able to fully do one or all of these projects but I believe in us and our brainrot. And I love that I'm still creating for myself too xD

i'm playing fast and easy with the rules of this one (which you can find here). instead, you'll find numbered snippets from a bunch of WIPs i am 75-90 per cent done but ambivalent about which to update first. gahan readers, what interests you most?

1. even gods can't change the past

gaon stares listlessly at the stickers lining the base of the night lamp. despite repeated disinfectings, they haven't come off, dinosaurs, trucks, sparkly muffins. things he had put there to make their hospital stay livelier. 

'i guess we're even now,' soohyun says, quiet and mostly to herself. 

gaon thinks for a while. 'chief jo?' he guesses. soohyun had a girlish fascination with her mentor that in turn made the normally gruff man go tongue tied. 

'what -- no. jishin,' she says as if this explains anything. when gaon looks over at his wife sitting on the bed beside him, she looks guilty, sad, and relieved. the guilt is most prominent. 

'what --' says gaon, having to swallow because his mouth is suddenly dry. 'are you talking about?'

2. unnamed modern strangers in a bar au

the stranger backs gaon up until he hits the brick wall behind them, none too gently. but the man pays no attention to this. he looks at gaon with desire both ferocious and unyielding. 

'this husband of yours,' says the stranger angrily, sliding his hands into gaon's thick hair and keeping them there. 'you talk about him like he walks on water but he's only a man.'

'he's my world,' replies gaon breathlessly, eyes fixed on the man's mouth. then the stranger is kissing him.

3. omega spin-off of enantiomers

gaon spins in yohan's arms so they're back to chest, before sensuously dragging himself down yohan's front until he's crouched at yohan's feet. yohan's hands tighten around his when gaon looks up at him from the floor, smilingly and with heat. 

'that look is why i put a baby inside you the first time around,' yohan says, stroking gaon's hands. there's a hint of warning to his tone. and desperation. he can't be held responsible for what he does if gaon keeps this up. 

gaon laughs delightedly.

of course, that's when the bedroom emits a wail that filters down the hallway and into the living room.

4. everything everywhere all at once

soohyun's eyebrows go up in shock. 'you still love him,' she says accusingly. 'not just that -- you want to go back to him. your parents died because of kang yohan!' she yells this last part, stomping her feet in enraged helplessness. 

'good people die without good reason,' gaon replies, feeling his cheeks redden.

she looks at gaon like he's grown another head. 'are you listening to yourself right now? you'll forgive kang yohan, and for what? he broke your heart. you were devastated for weeks!'

'i'm not selfless, soohyun-yah. not like you,' gaon replies, voice cracking. he searches for the words, pulling them from deep inside him. 'after appa died, i kept the restaurant open to prove that i could. helping people came after. but i can't do it anymore. i can't keep dragging on like everything is normal when seeing how fucked up everything is is destroying me.'

soohyun visibly swallows her words, letting gaon finish. 

'i hurt,' gaon whispers, 'all the time. i'm so angry. it's like looking into an abyss but now it looks back at me. being with yohan makes me feel safe, like i'll survive this. like there's more to living than just pain.'

soohyun hunches over at the knees and hugs herself. 'why does it have to be kang yohan?' she says miserably.

'i don't know.' gaon approaches, choreographing his intent. he pulls her into a hug when she doesn't resist. 'it's fucked up. i'm fucked up but i miss him terribly.'

'what if he breaks your heart again?' she sniffles against gaon's chest, voice going flat with inevitability. 

'he might,' gaon admits, squeezing her in final consolation. 'but i'll go my whole life regretting it if i don't try.'

5. elevator troubles

‘bujangnim?’ gaon asks, knocking on the heavy wooden door for appearance’s sake before striding in. but yohan’s not there.

the sound of his harsh breathing fills the office. he makes his way over to where late afternoon sunlights spills through the floor to ceiling windows and stares at the traffic twenty stories below, tiny trucks and tinier people. 

he's livid. if he could, he would shatter every single window of this ministry building with the frequency of his rage.

a hand slips over his eyes, cooling their heat and blocking his vision. a body follows behind. 

‘shhh,’ rumbles yohan in gaon’s ear, moulding himself around gaon, silken wool and heat and support everywhere. his other hand lands on gaon's chest, over gaon's fast beating heart. 

gaon’s only reaction is a hitch in his breathing. his muscles remain tightly coiled, his hands clenched in fists at his sides.

'he told me that my parents would be proud of me for doing the right thing,' gaon says with long pauses between into the red blackness. 'when he -- when he was the one who helped doh young choon --' he breaks off with a stifled sound, enraged.  

yohan's joyless chuckle rumbles through gaon's body. 'min jung ho is a viper.' his inflection doesn't change when gaon grabs his wrist. 'down to his venomous words.'

'what gives him the right,' gasps gaon, eyes turning wet with frustrated tears under yohan's palm. he presses back into yohan's body. 

'none,' says yohan simply. 'just as he has no right to dispense justice.'

'i want to hurt him, so, so badly,' gaon confesses, pulling yohan's hand away. 

‘we will,’ says yohan. 

future promises aren't enough. gaon whirls around. 'now, yohan.' he pushes the unresisting older man backwards until yohan's thighs hit the heavy oak table. 'i want to destroy him now.'

6. my heart goes back to you, i just don't know

trigger warning, beware.

jung sunah pulls gaon’s face up with a fistful of silky, dark hair. gaon’s pupils are blown wide. yohan catches a peek of red tongue as gaon swallows, sweat beading along the younger man’s temple. yohan knows this expression from when he looked into the mirror all those weeks ago after jung sunah had ambushed him. 

she drugged gaon.

yohan watches with a foreboding feeling as jung sunah simply stares at gaon. the hunger on her face is…not good. she cocks her head, hand traveling to gaon’s panting mouth. yohan watches her fit two perfectly manicured fingers, nails painted rouge into the seam of gaon’s mouth; feels somehow worse when gaon doesn’t resist. 

‘he’s nothing! a means to an end,‘ barks yohan. he sounds affected because he is. he knows what’s happening here, what jung sunah is making him a bystander to.

she ignores this. ‘you know, i never liked giving blowjobs,’ she says conversationally. ‘they’re demeaning. the power differential is obvious. men enjoy it.’  she tilts gaon’s face up using the fingers in his mouth.

gaon pants heavily, eyelashes turning wet as he blinks slow and hard. ‘seeing kim pansanim on his knees makes me understand the appeal of it.’

‘is that why you brought him here?’ yohan asks, thinking quickly. ‘to get to me?’

‘you put your hand on his shoulder on live television,’ she replies in a faraway voice, but yohan can read her now.

Trying to understand myself more and how to improve my mental health bcs I hate feeling shitty for the past few years. This and several other books. Mostly self-improvement books. I don't read one book in one sitting, I typically do that with fanfics bcs fanfics I can get obsessed with lmao. But I read my ebooks for several pages for 1-2 hours, read another book some days later. Come back to that book another day, just going back and forth bcs I find it better to read self-improvement books like that for me.

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

as these amazing ppl have already said in their tags & reblogs, there's a lot to uncover and a lot to leave to our imaginations for this Kdrama especially. I got into this fandom on 2022. genuinely like.. absolutely and genuinely surprised a kdrama fandom can have fanfics on ao3 more than 20. Still active too! I dare myself to draw a fanart of them bcs I was, still am, brainrot bcs of them and honestly had dilemma if I was going to upload the art. Bcs idk if they're really active on social media? if it's only in ao3? i'm an artist, interactions (likes, comments, shares and such) is one of the things that keeps me alive. I was so frustrated with drawing human figures back then I just needed a push to do more

my friend nudged me to post it, i had a fear (still kinda has) to post BL art bcs only my close friends & open-minded friends that belong in fandoms/multi fandoms understands.

i was shocked when I woke up to hundreds of likes on my twitter and ppl are actually sharing the art! met great people there, small knitted community in a way. we noticed if one or two is absent. albeit certain ppl won't agree with our certain kinks and fantasies, and we probably won't share majority of them to the world bcs ppl nowadays don't seem to enjoy a lotta things— it's fanfics, it's meant to be whatever you want and like while not shoving it onto people's faces/if u don't like certain things, we used to turn away and be in our bubble with like-minded ppl. not shout and argue with the obviously different tastes.. but then again, it's social media.

we appreciate things more bcs we're small and still thriving fandom. we feed each other's delusional to keep our sanity lol, sometimes i do feel desperate for not having more food/content but I should be grateful we come this far. not to mention we don't really get oversaturated like big fandoms, there's the pros and cons.

TDJ is one of the loveliest fandoms i've ever been into and i don't think i'll ever yeet outta here anytime soon ^^ kudos to all tdj lovers, enjoyers, faneditors, artists & authors

Everytime I meet my friends, they will be surprised that the TDJ fandom has lasted so long. And to think it is able to do so with just one season, 16 episodes, and nothing more after that.

They will ask me why? And I thought that I will pass the question on to the rest of you.

We are still here even though the drama finished airing after 2021. And I still see fics being written on AO3 as well.

I fucking did it again

And by "it" I mean opening a document in my "Yo Han's POV" folder of Who Holds the Devil and stumbling over a section I'd forgotten I'd written (or blocked out, more likely). So, for your enjoyment in these trying post-chapter 39 times:

"Sometimes, Yo Han wondered what that must feel like — to be loved so fiercely and wholeheartedly by someone else. Especially someone like Ga On, whose emotions were as wild and unstoppable as they were genuine. He couldn't seem to curb them even if he tried.

It must be breathtaking to be loved by someone like him.

And, blinded by his own idiocy, Yo Han had allowed himself to hope. For a little while, he'd honestly thought he had a chance — that he might get to find out what that would be like. That, just maybe, the emotions he saw flashing past in Ga On's eyes meant something.

He should have known better."

And yet, despite knowing that — despite being well aware of how dangerous it is to keep recklessly touching a man like Kang Yo Han — Ga On finds it difficult to stop. He knows he should, if not out of deference to his superior, then for his own sake. He can feel his self-control crumble a little more with each new touch and, in its stead, rises a confusing, breathtaking yearning he's not sure if he's ready to face — much less knows how to handle.
