in which jack comes home in a bad mood after getting eliminated from the playoffs but his two girls are always there for him.
song- watch you sleep. - girl in red
jack felt off, almost empty as he pulled into the driveway of his home. a frown was displayed on his face, after getting eliminated from the playoffs. his team had played a good game, but not good enough.
he opened his car door grabbing his bags and keys, making his way to the front door and opening it with one swift movement.
he dropped his bags to the ground and looked around, no one to be seen, the tv was turned off and all that could be heard was the song here comes the sun by the beatles.
it was his 4year old daughter, matilda’s favourite song, she would try her best to sing along to it, not able to even get the words correct. it always brought a smile to his face.
he made his way into the kitchen without trying to disrupt anything. he stopped from a distance as he saw his wife with matilda propped up on her right hip, dancing and singing around the kitchen as she was making something.
jack leaned against the frame of the window and just watched, a look of happiness spread across his face.
you had had a big night, from watching the game, to trying to make dinner, to trying to make matilda stop crying. the crying was never ending, and for what reason? she could never figure it out, tilly was now 4 but she was just always crying. and when you couldn’t make it stop you felt like a horrible mother.
at this very moment you had matilda on your hip and you were trying to distract her so she would stop crying. you danced around and even started singing before she stopped crying.
it was rough when jack had to go on a roadie, meaning you had to put in that little bit of extra effort around the house.
you weren’t going to lie, it was a little bit relieving knowing jack wouldn’t have alot of hockey to focus on after losing tonight. you sure felt bad for your husband though.
“need a hand?” jack spoke up and took matilda out of his wife’s hands and pulled her in for a hug, “dada!” matilda cheered and dug her head into her dads neck.
“hey tills!” jack greeted, placing a sweet kiss on his daughters forehead.
“im sorry about the game jack.” you spoke and gave your husband a peck on lips.
“it’s okay, we tried our best.” he sighed, you could tell he was upset about it all.
“i need to finish dinner, could you go give her a bath?” you ask quietly.
“of course.”
jack carried matilda to the bathroom and turned on the bath tub. he grabbed out the basket full of tillys bath toys.
“which ones do you want tonight?” jack asked as he spread them out along the ground.
she picked up her favourite ones and placed them in the bath gently, as if they had feelings.
“good pick.” jack smiled picking up the rest of the toys and putting them away.
once the bath was full jack placed matilda in the bath and she played in there while jack washed her.
as her daddy put shampoo into her hair she looked up at him, she easily noticed that he wasn’t as talkative as he usually was and looked like he was sad.
“daddy?” she questioned.
“yes tilly baby?”
“do you have a boo boo?” she sat up in the bath and jack stopped massaging her scalp with conditioner.
“no honey, why do you ask?”
“your sad, what’s wrong daddy?” she frowned. “is it because you lost?”
“yes baby.” he sighed.
“it’s okay.” she placed her hand on top of his hoping to turn his frown into a smile.
a smile broke out on jack’s face, “thank you. can i ask you a question?”
she nodded gently.
“why do you get so upset all the time darling girl?” he asked curiously.
tilly looked like she was about to start crying again, “i miss you daddy.”
jacks heart swelled but also dropped, he wished that he could be there all the time for his girls.
“im always with you, in here.” he poked her little chest gesturing to her heart. “but baby, you need to stop getting so upset, it’s really hard on mummy, she feels bad when she can’t make you feel better.”
“do I make mummy sad?”
“not sad, she just feels like a bad mummy.” he sighed, knowing tilly most likely didn’t understand him anyway.
“she’s not a bad mummy!” she sort of yelled.
“she’s not. now come on, let’s get you dry and changed and into bed gorgeous.”
jack changed her into her pyjamas and placed her into her big girl bed pulling the blanket over her.
she closed her eyes straight away, but just was jack was about to shut the door she spoke up. “daddy?”
“yes?”
“i wont cry tonight so mummy feels better.”
“come see me if you want me baby.”
he left a gap in the door and made his way into the kitchen, his amazing wife had made his favourite meal, spaghetti bolognaise.
“ugh it looks and smells amazing baby.” he placed a kiss on your forehead and sat down next to you to eat.
you both dug into your food and ate up.
“im sorry you didn’t make it through to the next round.” you spoke quietly.
“it’s okay, I want to be here more for tilly, do you know why she cries so much?” he questioned his wife, she shared a look with him.
“no clue, I can’t get a peep out of her when she’s crying.” you frown.
“she said it’s because she misses me…” he sighed, he felt horrible. “i knew i would be a horrible dad.”
“hey hey hey, no your an amazing dad, tilly loves you, she wouldn’t want any other dad in the world.” you grabbed your husbands hand. “and I wouldn’t want anyone else to be my husband.”
you grab your husbands hand and drag him to tillys room and open the door, she is laid in her bed peacefully, “sometimes when your on a roadie i miss you so much so i come in here and watch her sleep. she looks exactly like you jack, and she calms me.”
jack remembered when tilly was first born, he would stay in her room for ages and watch her sleep because he was so worried something would happen to his girl.
but now, like his wife said, it was calming.
the way her little chest moved up and down as she breathed, the way she would move around every now and then and the way she would cuddle her snoopy teddy which had a devils jersey on it.
“we made her.” jack spoke softly.
“yeah. we did.” she grabbed jacks hand and leaned onto his shoulder.
this moment was the only moment he ever wanted, who cared about making it to the next round when he had his two girls at home?
they were all he ever needed.

Tumblr media
Father's Day had always been a rocky territory for you and Evie, especially before you'd introduced her to Quinn. You remembered so clearly when she was two, that she had come home from kindergarten with a Father's Day card, telling you "daddy card, daddy card!" over and over again. You had to break it to her that there was no "daddy" to give that card to.
The topic of Evie's father wasn't one you liked to think about. You were childhood sweethearts and when you found out you were pregnant, he was the first one you'd told. You'd expected tears and perhaps a bit of uncertainty, the two of you had often discussed a life beyond what the two of you had and that included children and marriage. You'd rushed over to his house as soon as the test had shown positive, brandishing the stick in your hand when he'd opened the door. You hadn't really known what else to do...you were still relatively young and this pregnancy wasn't necessarily planned.
He'd dumped you on the spot.
Actually no...he'd told you to get rid of "it" and then he'd dumped you...all while dropping the nuclear bomb of knowledge that he'd been sleeping with your best friend.
You'd frozen, not even flinching when the door slammed in your face. You'd gone into autopilot making your way back home and once you'd entered the safety of the four walls, you'd finally broken down.
It was safe to say that Evie's biological father wasn't a topic you wished to dwell upon.
But then you'd met Quinn and all of a sudden, every single definition of a dad seemed to befit him– it was something Evie had noticed too.
So when Evie was four and calling Quinn "dad" more often than not, the celebrations of Father's Day now seemed more appealing.
"Mom, Mom!"
You turned around from your place at the counter as Evie bounded into the apartment, her backpack swinging on her shoulders as she rushed to hug your legs.
"Hey, baby," you hummed, wrapping your arms around her, and stroking her hair as she looked up at you. "How was school?"
"Mom, I have a secret," Evie whispered as much as she could, giggling as you tilted your head in wonder. Your daughter tucked herself into your side with a smile across her face while Quinn entered the kitchen behind Evie, his keys swinging from his fingers.
"I swear that pickup line gets bigger by the day," he sighed, but despite his exasperated words, the soft smile reserved for you and Evie remained steady on his face. He placed the keys in a ceramic bowl before bending down and poking Evie's cheek lightly. "I'll need to start bringing a bed and pyjamas with me at this rate."
"Dad, that's silly!" Evie giggled heartily as she practically fizzed in her spot. Quinn's smile widened as he ruffled her hair before moving upwards to come face to face with you.
"Hey," Quinn spoke again, his voice low as he pressed a kiss to your welcoming lips. You hummed in response, your hand resting on his cheeks as he kissed you.
"Ew! Mom, Dad, stop!" Evie squirmed and broke free from where she'd become trapped and basically ran away screaming, her hands thrown up into the air.
You and Quinn fell into a fit of laughter, breaking apart to watch Evie disappear into her room. He pressed another chaste kiss to your temple before he flicked the switch on the kettle. You tidied up your laptop, which you'd been working on before they arrived home, tucking it aside, before picking up Evie's dropped backpack. You brushed it off before carrying it towards her room.
"Evie, darling, you left your bag in the kitchen," you spoke gently pushing the door open.
"Mom, in, quick!" Evie rushed to say, grabbing your hand and pulling you into the room as she closed the door.
The excitement in Evie's eyes was contagious as she held up a handmade Father's Day card, a mischievous grin on her face.
"Look what I made!" she exclaimed, practically bursting with pride, waving the card around, allowing you to take it gently.
The front of the card was adorned with a drawing of what you presumed to be Evie and Quinn holding hands– the latter indicated by a scribbled "Winnie", as well as the fact, the man in the drawing held a hockey stick in his other hand. The two were surrounded by colourful scribbles of writing.
Evie looked at you in question, her eyes wide as she waited for your reaction. You smiled warmly, opening up the card to reveal the inside, in which Evie's scribbled handwriting tried its best to be neat.
"It's beautiful, sweetheart," your tone softened as you crouched down to face Evie, handing the card back to her.
"You like it?" Evie asked carefully, as if afraid of your reaction.
"I love it," you reassured her while your thumb caressed her cheekbone. "How about you and I plan the entire day for Quinn tomorrow? Make it nice and fun for him, hm?
"Yes, yes, yes, yes!" Evie nodded rapidly as she pulled you towards the bed so you could scheme.
As you both sat on the edge of her bed, Evie began to share her plans for Father's Day through childish babbled, with you listening as intently as possible. The two of you huddled together, discussing the details of your surprise day for Quinn.
-
It was seven thirty in the morning when you felt a soft poke on your cheek. Allowing your eyes to flutter open, you lazily smiled as Evie silently urged you to get up before she "sneakily" crawled out of the room, her bare feet slapping against the floor of the hallway as she ran.
You rolled over to face Quinn, who had pulled you deep into his arms throughout the night, your nose gently brushing his before you carefully untangled yourself from him, tucking the blankets back over his sleeping figure before you crept out, following Evie.
Evie was practically fizzing in the living room as she clutched her card to her chest. You gently pressed a kiss to her forehead before placing a finger to your lips, signalling for her to keep quiet. Together, you and Evie tip-toed to the kitchen, where you both embarked on the mission of creating the perfect Father's Day breakfast for Quinn.
You'd been dating Quinn long enough to know he loved waffles. Not only was it his go-to cheat breakfast, but also his favourite meal to make for you and Evie. You and Evie got to work, following a recipe from an old cookbook you'd thrifted a few years ago, creating a waffle mixture. You'd tasked Evie with the important role of assistant chef, letting her stir and add a range of ingredients into the bowl.
Keeping a close eye on Evie, you moved away to heat an oiled pan to cook some bacon to go with the breakfast. You flicked on the radio, keeping the music at a lull, hoping to keep you and Evie's activities as secret as possible. Your daughter's tongue stuck out between her lips in concentration as she mixed, careful so as not to splash herself with the batter.
The scent of freshly brewing coffee began to fill the air as you worked side by side, flipping the bacon as Evie pushed the bowl aside. You watched from your peripherals as Evie opened the fridge and stood on her tiptoes to reach for the fruit you kept inside.
"Careful, love," you chided, scooping the bacon off of the pan and onto a plate before moving the pan from the hob. You turned and helped Evie gather the fruit and bring it towards the counter, where you chopped and sliced it up and put it all in bowls for Quinn.
"Mom! There's someone at the door," Evie whispered, her pyjama-clad arm pointed towards the entrance to the apartment in worry as a knock resounded.
"Perfect," you smiled, moving around Evie to get the door. You unlocked the door and peeked your head around the edge, to lay your eyes on a delivery man holding a bunch of neatly wrapped flowers. "Hello! Are those for me?"
"Ms. y/n?" The delivery man asked, glancing down at his clipboard.
"The very one!" You beamed, opening the door wider and taking the flowers that had been passed over to you. "Thank you!"
"No problem, have a nice morning," the delivery man nodded before he turned around, leaving you with the bunch of flowers. You closed the door quietly as you walked back towards the kitchen.
"Pretty, Mom!" Evie all but squealed before her hands clapped over her mouth at the volume. You chuckled and nodded in agreement as you set them down on the counter.
"They are, aren't they?"
-
Evie's excitement radiated as she carefully arranged the breakfast tray, making sure everything looked just right. The handmade card, now carefully positioned next to the wrapped flowers– you'd been surprised to learn that the florists had allowed you to order them last night for delivery this morning.
"Do you think Dad will love it?" Evie whispered, her eyes wide with anticipation as she surveyed the breakfast spread. The waffles were a golden brown with whipped cream and the bacon beside it with all the fruit bowls laid neatly on the tray.
"Absolutely, sweetheart," you assured her, sharing a conspiratorial smile. "Especially when he knows it's from you."
With the tray complete, you and Evie tip-toed back towards you and Quinn's shared room. The tray was clutched in your hands as Evie carefully clutched the bunch of flowers and her card.
Quinn stirred awake as the bedroom door creaked open. He opened a singular eye–which widened at the sight of his girls in the doorway.
"Good morning," he rasped, stretching up his arms as he sat against the headboard. His tired eyes glanced between you and Evie in wonder. "What's all this for?"
"Happy Father's Day!" Evie suddenly exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious as she jumped onto the bed beside Quinn, nestling into his side. Evie beamed with pride, holding up her handmade card and flowers for Quinn to see.
"W-what?" Quinn's voice cracked with emotion as he looked at Evie with softened eyes. His arm that had naturally fallen around Evie's shoulders had tightened around the girl.
"She wanted to surprise you," You spoke up, your weight shifting on your feet. The tray was getting heavier in your hands, but you tried to hide it so Evie could do this at her pace.
"I've never done today before," Evie muttered, her gaze falling to the bedsheets. "But you're my dad now." Quinn tilted his head to look down at her and you swore you saw the shimmer of tears brewing along his lower lashes.
"I'll let you in on a secret, bug," Quinn started, his soft voice so gentle and caring. "I've never had today done for me, and that means it's both our first time." Evie looked up to meet his eyes, her own wide and childlike.
"We're both babies at this," Evie said rather seriously, her head going lax against Quinn's shoulder. Her words caused Quinn to laugh and pull her closer to his side, his eyes flitting towards you.
"Oh, y/n/n, come put that down here," Quinn rushed to move and help you, but you merely pierced him with a gaze that threatened 'you stay where you are Quinn Hughes or I swear...' You placed the laden tray on his lap, perching on the bed by his feet.
"Oh, wow, look at all this!" Quinn exhaled with a smile. "This looks incredible!"
"Mom made it!" Evie burst, looking at you with a wide grin. "And I got to help make the batter and the fruits. She even let me sort the fruit into the bowls!"
"No way! That's my favourite part of the tray," Quinn remarked causing Evie to duck her head in embarrassment. He looked up towards you and pushed into the centre of the bed, moving carefully to not spill anything as he gestured for you to join his free side.
You were more than willing to sink into the warmth of his side of the bed as he pulled you into a short, but loving kiss. Your hand brushed through his mussed hair, as you pulled away and curled up beside him.
"Thank you for the breakfast," Quinn murmured as he nuzzled his nose against the side of your face.
"I had the best helper," you smiled, looking towards Evie who was sneaking a raspberry from a fruit bowl.  Quinn followed your gaze and once more, his gaze melted completely.
"So, bug," Quinn started, "what are those in your hands?"
"Oh!" Evie bounced onto her knees, picking up the flowers that she had placed half-mindedly on the bed in front of her and holding out the card for him to take. "These are for you!"
Quinn smiled and took both items from Evie. He emitted an indescribable noise as he saw the front of the card and the inside message. His lip jutted out as he buried his head into Evie's hair, his face smothered as she giggled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"That's me, that's you, and that's your hockey stick" Evie pointed out matter of factly, as Quinn glanced up. This time he couldn't hide his watery eyes as he listened to Evie explain his card, his free hand found yours and squeezed gently, his head resting atop Evie's. "And I wrote inside all myself!"
"I love it, bug," Quinn croaked, wiping his eye briefly as he pulled her into a side hug. "I'm gonna put it on the mantlepiece so everyone can see."
Evie bashfully smiled and wrapped her small arms around Quinn as much as she could. She'd once again forgotten all about the flowers which Quinn had swiped at the last moment to save them from being squished.
"These are very nice," Quinn commented, a faint blush creeping across his cheeks. "Don't think I've ever gotten flowers before."
"There's a first for everything it seems," you hummed softly, resting your head on his shoulder quite like Evie was doing on his opposite side. Quinn pressed a chaste kiss to the crown of your head before placing the flowers carefully at the end of Evie's legs.
"Yeah...there is," Quinn mumbled, "thank you...both of you," you and Evie both found yourselves nodding, the smell of food in front of you now growing more and more intense. "I might need both of your help with this breakfast, though."
Evie didn't need any other prompting before she grabbed at an entire bowl of fruit and started scoffing it down like a girl starved– which you knew she wasn't considering you'd already fed her plenty of waffles before you'd entered.
As you sat down and listened to Evie, who was telling Quinn all about the day ahead through a full mouth, you marvelled at how this Father's Day had transformed into a celebration you cherished, a far cry from the painful memories of the past.
Together, as a family, you were creating a different kind of story to the one your past had tried to force you to live—one filled with laughter, warmth, and the genuine bond between you, your daughter, and the man she proudly called "Dad."
more single mom!reader x quinn is coming I swearrrr!

Can you write "i don't want anyone else." & “i don’t believe you” for jack Hughes, but fluff?
Join my 100 followers celebration here!!
“Jack! I need your help!” You yelled, summoning your husband from where he was ironing his shirt down the hall.
You were getting ready to accompany Jack to a charity gala that him and Nico had to talk at. They had been working on a big charity endeavor all season and you were thrilled to hear him talk about the process and the great results they had received. You knew there was a lot of pressure on Jack this season, so you had done everything you could to be there for him and keep his life stress free. Unfortunately, that was a little tough due to the fact that you were pregnant.
You and Jack had found out just a few months into the season and were absolutely ecstatic. You knew Jack would be a great Dad, and if you could manage this busy season together, you were sure you could manage anything.
Jack came running in, shirtless, with a frantic look on his face. You were only six months pregnant, but he had been a nervous wreck recently due to your increasing discomfort and the impending due date.
“Are you alright?” He asked, eyes darting right to your stomach.
You giggled, placing a hand on his cheek to calm his worries.
“Yes, I just can’t zip my dress up. Can you get it?”
Jack easily pulled the zipper up and adjusted the clasp on your velvet black dress, taking in the sight of you in the dress that you had been so excited to wear all week.
“Wow, you look gorgeous baby,” he said in awe. “I’ve got the prettiest date on the whole team!”
“You’ve also got the most pregnant date on the whole team,” you mumbled, touching up your makeup. “I wish our baby girl was already here so I could have more fun with you tonight, I’ll probably be exhausted within an hour.”
Jack knew you had been struggling with mood swings recently and he rubbed your back comfortingly when he noticed the sad look on your face. He pressed a kiss to your exposed shoulder.
“Doesn’t matter, I wouldn’t want anyone else there with me,” Jack said smoothly. “You and baby girl are the best dates ever.”
“I don’t believe you,” you chuckled, wiping a stray tear from your cheek.
“I’m serious, baby. I couldn’t have gotten through this season without you by my side. We’re gonna go have a fun night, I’m gonna show you off in this dress, and then we’ll come home and I’ll give you a massage so you can sleep good. How does that sound?”
You leaned against him and stared at your reflection in the mirror. Your little family was already built on such pure love.

warnings: none
extra: readers birthday is in february! and also idk if all three brothers were in hs at the same time, because of where their birthdays fall, but lets just say if quinn was a senior, jack would be a junior and luke would be a freshie!! its all because of where quinns birthday falls, if his birthday was in like sept, i think he wouldve been out of hs by the time lukes a freshie but wtvr.
Tumblr media
three year old you sat in the waiting room, in your grandfathers lap, as you waited for your dad to come out of the hospital room and take you in. it wasn’t a long wait, maybe because you were drowning out the sound of the wailing cries of a baby, focusing on your grandfathers book. not like you could read it anyways.
“honey, come here” you heard, your head snapping in the direction the voice came from. it was your father, waving you in.
a big smile lit on your face as you hopped off of your grandfathers lap and ran towards your dad. he grabbed your hand and quietly brought you in the room. your mom laid on the hospital bed, a bundle in her arms. your dad lifted you up and brought you to her.
“hi baby” ellen said. “this is your brother, this is quinn” she spoke.
your smile stayed on your face as your dad leaned you towards the baby. “gentle, okay?” you nodded.
your fingers grazed your newborn brother’s face, then his hand. his little fingers clutched yours. “hi baby” you whispered to him.
your mom chuckled. “baby, his name is quinn. can you said quinn?” she asked.
“ki—kinn” you smiled.
your mom ran a hand through your hair. “good job baby”
two days later, quinn was brought home. you were quiet when he was asleep, quiet because you were in his room watching him, making sure he was okay. you watched him breathe, making sure it looked normal, or at least— what you thought was normal.
you were there to protect him, even if you were only three. “honey..” you turned to the doorway. your father and mother stood there.
“its time to go to bed, lovie” your father said.
you frowned and looked back at your brother. his eyelids fluttered as he dreamed. you let out a sigh. you reach your hand through the bars and tuck his bundle just a little more under him.
you got up and ran to your room before running back in, holding some object up to your parents.
“do this please?” you spoke as best as you could.
jim smiled softly and took it from you. he brought it over to the outlet near quinn’s crib and plugged the nightlight in. you smiled and pressed a button, turning it on.
in their eyes, they knew you would be an amazing sister.
five year old you sat in the waiting room, next to your grandfather who held one year old (almost two) quinn on his lap. quinn giggled at whatever funny thing your grandfather did.
your father walked out of the room, walking to you guys. “you two ready to meet your new brother?” he asked.
you nodded with a smile, hopping out of your seat. quinn didn’t understand much, but he had a happy face nonetheless.
your dad picked up quinn and held your hand, bringing you to the room. your mom held a bundle, again. your dad picked you up with his free arm, and set you next to your mom. he held onto quinn, allowing the boy to look at his younger brother.
“hi loves, meet jack” ellen smiled.
you smile and carefully caress one of his cheeks, before going to his hand. just like quinn, his fingers clasped around yours.
“hi jacky” you whispered.
as soon as he was brought home, you went to his and quinns (now) shared room and made sure the nightlight was in there, along with your pillow and blanket that lied next to the crib and on the floor.
much like you did with quinn, when jack slept, you watched. watched to make sure he was gonna be okay. to protect him. but he wasn’t the only one you watched.
you now watched both of your little brothers. you made sure they were tucked in at night, made sure they had their pacifiers and made sure the night light was always on.
you would be asleep on the floor next to jack’s crib by the time your parents came to get you. they never moved you though, they knew being in there brought you a sense of peace. their only concern was how you were able to sleep on the floor so peacefully.
as time went on, jack and quinn were already so different. jack was more vocal, more loud, a little more annoying, but you still adored him.
as he grew slightly more, he seemed to find everything funny. literally, everything. from you snapping your fingers in his or quinns face, to you even just holding him, he’d burst into giggles.
quinn on the other hand, he was quiet, calm, he liked to sleep when next to you. he was always at peace.
even though you were five, you’d make sure they would stay like that. happy, and never have regrets.
seven year old you sat in the waiting room. three (almost four!) year old quinn sat squished in your seat with you, and two year old jack sat on your lap. your grandfather sat next to you guys, waiting for your dad to get you all.
when he did, jack jumped out of his seat and bolted it for the room. you got out of your seat and helped quinn too before following your father.
jack was already on the bed by the time you got in, sitting on your moms legs as he looked at the baby in wonder. your father picked you up, setting you next to your mom, before picking quinn up. the family looked at the newest hughes.
“this is luke.” your mom smiled.
“loo—luuke” quinn spoke, slightly struggling, but getting it. you looked at your brother, caressing his face just like you did to both quinn and jack. then you grabbed his hand. he also grabbed yours.
“mama?” jacks voice rang out.
ellen looked at him. “is that?” jack pointed at the wrist band. he clearly wanted to know what it was.
“it means im a patient here baby, soon it will be off and we can go home” jack smiled at “go home” and clapped.
once luke was home, it was a cycle repeat. this time though, quinn was no longer in the room. he had his own room, right next to yours. before you’d go to bed, you would go to his room and make sure he was asleep.
you were able to get your mom to buy a nightlight that was the exact same as the one you had originally. you put the replica in jack and lukes room, giving quinn the original.
it was next to his bed, illuminating his face.
as soon as you knew he was all set, you tucked him in slightly more, and placed a small kiss on his forehead. then, you left to jack and lukes room.
jack was sound asleep, snoring quietly. you tucked him in too, placing a small kiss on his cheek.
you then went over to luke, who peacefully slept in his bundle. you sat down next to his crib and watched him, making sure he was okay. when you deemed it long enough, you lied down, on the floor, and fell asleep.
seventeen year old you sat on your bed, listening to thirteen year old (almost fourteen) quinn rant about how he was scared for his first day of freshman year. you pushed your book to the side and grabbed his shoulders.
“look at me, if any kid tries to mess with you, you tell me, alright? im not gonna let some weirdo mess with my little brother.” you told.
quinn nodded. you removed your hands from his shoulders, looking him in the eyes. “quinny, can you do me a favor?” you asked.
“whats up?”
you sighed, “when jack gets into highschool next year, watch out for him, okay? and then when lukes in highschool, watch for him too. you hear me? or make jack do it, but i want you to look out for them because i wont be able to, okay? im gonna do my best to help you this year too.” you told.
quinn nodded. “okay y/n/n” you smiled and brought your brother into a hug. “love you quinny”
“love you too sissy”
you’re now nineteen, quinns suddenly sixteen, jacks fourteen, and lukes twelve. you’re home for a week before you have to go all the way back to new jersey so you can go straight back to princeton.
jack groaned as ellen went to start the car. “why cant i walk there?” he whined.
you rolled your eyes. “shut up jack, if you walk there, you wont make it in time.”
“but all my friends are walking!” he complained.
“jack shut up, you can’t do anything about it so stop complaining. you’re gonna get there on time, and be warm while doing so. its cold here, you will be fine! plus, do you really want to carry your large bag full of hockey gear in the blistering cold? probably not!” you explained.
he crossed his arms and stomped towards the front door. “god i cannot wait to move out on my own.”
you sighed and grabbed his arm before he could leave. “look jack, listen to me. mom doesnt have to do this for you, you know that right? but shes not gonna make her son walk in the damn cold. and jack don’t make her drop you off around the block either. you need to understand that shes your mom, she’s getting older, she just wants to spend time with you.” you told him.
you could hear him sigh under his breath. “im sorry” he spoke. you ruffled his hair. “dont apologize, bub, just go out to the car, hang out with her until she gets you to the rink, and then have fun at practice. ill be picking you up.”
jack grinned before running out to the car.
“hes so annoying” quinn groaned. “tell me about it” luke retorted. “i had to room with him my entire life and i still do!”
“oh boohoo” quinn replied.
“luke, jack tells me all the time that you’re the annoying one! dancing around in pjs before school starts.” you laugh, walking over to your brothers.
“whatever” he grumbled.
you chuckled and ruffled his hair. “dont ever change, bud.”
luke sat on your bed, head on your chest as he cries. fourteen year old luke was crying over hockey and his coach. twenty-one year old you was holding him close. “let it out, lukey.”
he sniffled and cried, tears staining your shirt. “am i really that bad at hockey?” he asked.
you pulled him away from you and held him by his shoulders. “god no, lukey. you’re fucking incredible at hockey! you’re gonna go somewhere with your talent!”
“but coach rhines said im useless.” he spoke.
your brows furrowed. luke wasn’t a crier, so this was hard on not just him, but you as well. “you aren’t useless, luke. coach rhines is useless because what the fuck does he do besides sit on his ass and yell at you and your team? nothing! remember that, lukey. jesus, is this your school coach?” you asked.
“no— hes the rec coach” luke wiped his eyes.
“well, throw that jersey away because after i have a talk with him, you’re switching teams.” you spoke. “i dont care if i have to pay for it or whatever, you aren’t staying with him.”
“okay” luke whispered.
you frowned and grabbed the boy, tackling him into a hug. his laughs erupted throughout the room as your legs wrapped around his, keeping him in your hold.
your fingers tickled his sides. he laughed and tried to move away. “ill stop once you say you’re one of the best hockey players ever!” you laughed.
“b—but sidney crosby!” he laughed harder as you tickled him more.
“okay okay! im one of the best hockey players ever!” he spoke, expecting you to stop. you didn’t.
“gotta say it like you mean it kid!” you laughed.
after yelling it a few times and laughter cutting him off each time, you stopped. you both lied on your bed, your legs draped over his. “movie night?”
“yes please!”
summer vacation. all three brothers, and then your parents, would be here soon. five minutes. you walked into your childhood room. the walls still had your pages clipped to them.
your guitar lied in the corner of your room.
you took mental pictures, knowing most of this stuff would be leaving with you for when you moved into your apartment. you took mental pictures of it all.
you sat down on your bed. the only sound in the entire house was the creak of the bed frame. you remember sitting here and being able to hear when your father walked up the front porch steps, signaling he was home. he was the only one who used the front door, along with jack.
you remember this room almost being the meeting room with your brothers when you were here. quinn coming in for advice. jack coming in because he liked a girl. luke coming in because he felt like he was bad at hockey.
you also remember being able to hear either of your brothers blasting their favorite songs because the walls are that thin.
but now, you sat here realizing that at some point, all of this would be gone. no more house, no more memories, no more family.
you sat on your bed, crying. crying until you heard footsteps on the front porch and jack laugh at something he said.
you wiped your tears and walked down stairs. you walked to the front door and opened it as your dad was about to unlock it.
“in case you forgot, dad, no one used the front door” you smiled.
jim grinned and pulled you into a hug. “theres my favorite daughter”
“im your only daughter”
“so it works!”
vancouver, canada. a place home to the canucks, the team quinn played for. he stood next to you in the empty apartment that was a few doors down from his. jack and luke went back outside, going to grab a few more boxes of yours.
your parents would be flying in tomorrow to see you.
“vancouvers colder than i thought.” you told, voice in the middle of cracking.
quinn looked at you. “whats wrong?”
you shrugged him off. “its nothing, quinny. im okay, really.”
quinn scoffed. “tell me whats wrong, sissy. let me be here for you this time. you were always there for me, so its my turn. what is wrong?”
you sniffle before starting to cry. “i wish i never grew up quinny. god i miss when you, jack and luke were little. i miss being little. having no responsibilities, no regrets, being happy all the time. and i dont want to grow up anymore. i want to stop and stay young forever because the cost of growing up is losing you guys.”
quinn grabbed you and hugged you tight. he let you cry into his shoulder, and soon enough, jack and luke joined the hug too. you didn’t want to grow up. not anymore.

C for charlotte
Tumblr media
Charlotte was sitting in her blue bean bag in the Canuck’s locker room watching the game that just ended and seeing the Canuck’s win before she curled up into a tighter ball holding her Canuck and shark stuffie in her arms and cuddled under her soft fluffy blue blanket. Her eyes began to slowly shut and before she knew she fell asleep in her bean bag.
Quinn walked into the locked room after his first game as Captain, having won the game. He looked over to the side of the locker room that has a tv where Charlotte loves to watch the game at and saw her peacefully asleep in her bean bag.
He smiled walking over and kneeling down in front of her, he gently brushed her baby hairs away from her forehead, “Charlie girl.” Quinn gently cooed pressing a kiss to her forehead, Charlotte slowly woke up seeing her dad right her next to her, she reached her arms up wrapping them around his neck, letting Quinn stand up with her in his arms, “Good game daddy.” Charlotte mumbled slowly waking up as he head rested on his chest.
“Thank you Charlie girl.” Quinn smiled kissing the top of her head.
Charlotte suddenly gasped pulling her head back up from his chest and bringing her hand towards the new addition on his jersey, she smiled slowly tracing the C on her dad’s jersey.
“It’s so pretty.” Charlotte smiled focusing on the new patch.
Quinn smiled watching his daughter trace his captian patch, “Yeah?”
Charlotte looked up at her dad nodding with a smile, “Yeah it’s my letter, C for Charlotte.” Charlotte cheekily grinned giggling at little.
“Is it now?” Quinn smiled chuckling down at his daughter seeing the cheekily smile she was sending him, looking so much like Jack when she does that.
“I have to agree with baby bear, it’s C for Charlotte.” Brock chirped in with a grin as he walked over towards them.
“See daddy! Thank you uncle bo!” Charlotte proudly smiled up at the dad before sending a smile at her uncle who responded with a wink.
“Uncle Ellie!” Charlotte called out quickly gaining Elias’s attention who quickly walked over to the three.
“Yes lillan?” Elias gently smiled down at his honorary niece having called her little bird in german since she was born, he placed a gentle kiss on her cheek before waiting for her to talk.
“Is the C on daddy’s jersey for Charlotte.” Charlotte cheekily questioned looking at her uncle with her famous puppy eyes.
“Of course it is.” Elias quickly agreed chuckling slighty seeing the sassier side of Charlotte which is rare to come out.
“See Daddy.” Charlotte proudly smiled up at her dad.
“I know Charlie girl, i thought the same thing when i first saw it.” Quinn smiled slightly kissing the top of her head.
Charlotte gasped, “Daddy!” Quinn chuckled slightly looking down at his pouting daughter.

Now We’re Even - Jack Hughes
Tumblr media
Dedicated to 😛, who requested enemies to lovers. I tried my best and I hope you like it. Also, I feel like this blog is starting to become a Jack Hughes fan page (he's not even my face player lol). Anyway, send in requests. Do it. Right now. Or just send in love. I love interacting and want to do it more.
Also thank you for the sweet messages and follows, it means the world and I'm endlessly happy y'all like my writing.
One last thing, do you all like angst? I wrote something that hurt my feelings (in a good way but also not) and wanted to post, but I'm unsure. Let me know.
wc: 2,463 (credit to gif maker) (also please don't steal my work)
———————————————-
The first time Jack Hughes hit you, it was a complete accident. You were walking back to your car from your favorite bagel joint with the best hangover remedy. After a rough night, you had coffee, food, and your phone in hand when all of a sudden, a black Range Rover slowly backs into you and sends you stumbling to the ground, spilling the breakfast you’d just paid twenty bucks for.
You sit there on the dirty ground in shock, not believing that the sausage bagel you were beyond excited to eat was now lying scattered on the tar. You let out a sad sigh, still staring sadly at the bagel and the currently empty coffee cup, when the car is thrown into park, and a rather cute boy, around your age, gets out and rushes toward you.
“Oh my god,” he breathes out. “I’m so sorry. Are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?”
You stare up at green eyes that are filled with immense worry and make a little self-diagnosis. Nothing feels like it hurts too bad, so you think the bagel and coffee must’ve taken the blunt force.
“I think I’m okay. My breakfasts not, though.”
The boy follows your stare to the pieces of breakfast scattered around you. He runs his hand over his face and shakes his head, almost in disbelief. He stays there for a moment, seemingly in more shock than you are, when suddenly he pulls himself together and holds out his hand for you to take. You oblige, and he pulls you to your feet, scanning his eyes over your body, looking for any sign of damage.
“I’m so fucking sorry. I wasn’t looking, which I usually do, but I was distracted by my brother texting me, and I-“
“It’s okay,” you interrupt his blubbering, “it might leave a gnarly bruise, but I’m fine.”
Relief rushes through his features when you finish, but then his eyes dart back to your scattered breakfast. “Can I at least rebuy your breakfast?”
You look down at your watch and then at the boy, nodding your head. You were starving, and you had nothing but time. The boy gives you a tight-lipped smile, and you begin following him back into the bagel place. You both notice the awkward silence surrounding you two, but neither of you speaks. In fairness, you both didn’t really know how to act in the situation.
When you enter back in, you quickly tell him your order from earlier and spot a table that you make a beeline toward. He waits in the small line that has formed, and after waiting a few minutes, he’s secured the goods. He saunters back toward you, placing the bag of food and coffee down in front of you.
“There. I also got you a chocolate cookie thing as another apology.”
You give him a small smile. “Thanks.”
You think that would be the end until he sits down, and silence plagues you again. You don’t know what to do when he opens his mouth and tries to make conversation.
“Well, hey, this situation could’ve been worse.” He chuckles lightly. “You could’ve hit me, and that would’ve been a big deal.”
As soon as the words leave his lips, you’re conflicted. You have no idea what he means by that statement. You were sure he didn’t mean it as an insult, but a tiny spark of anger flares in your chest anyway.
“I’m pretty sure it’s bad if you hit anyone with a car. Why would it be worse if I hit you?”
The boy leans back in his chair, his eyes widening slightly in surprise. “Well, um, I’m Jack Hughes.”
You rack your brain and throw him a confused look. Are you supposed to know who the hell he is?
“Okay, why does that matter?”
His surprised expression stays on his face, and he gives you a quick once-over as if he’s trying to see if you were lying about knowing who he is.
“I play hockey.” He states as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
You resist the urge to roll your eyes. “Okay. I play volleyball with my friends sometimes; how does that make it worse if our roles were reversed?”
Jack licks his lips and thinks for two whole seconds about the current conversation, knowing he messed up. You don’t seem very angry, but your voice holds slight irritation.
“I play in the NHL.” He explains. “A lotta people would be pissed if I got hurt.”
You stare blankly at him, trying to decipher if he’s that full of himself or just acting like an asshole. You’re not crazy angry, but a distaste is forming for the boy sitting in front of you, and every time he opens his mouth, it worsens. You contemplate how you should respond. Half of you think you should just leave it and thank him for breakfast, but the other half wants to put the pretty boy in his place. Naturally, the petty side wins.
“Well, I didn’t hit you; you hit me. So, I guess hockey fans everywhere can rejoice that Jack Hanes is safe and sound.”
As you finish, Jack wants to correct you on his last name, but he picks up on the slight venom in your voice, and he realizes that he’s dug himself in a hole by being an ass, and he isn’t sure how to dig himself out. The only thing he can come up with is putting on his charm and hope that you take the bait.
He throws you a smile and leans forward. “Listen, I’m sorry, I’m coming off as an asshole.” He then leans back and plasters on a smirk. “I’m usually pretty good with the ladies, so how about I take you out?”
He throws you a wink across the table, and you’re suddenly happy you didn’t eat because you would have thrown up right there. You know this type of guy, and you hate it. They’re the type that throws the idea of a date and expects you to melt
Also, now you’re rather pissed, and the last thing you want to do is deal with a hockey player who seems to have an ego the size of Michigan.
“I’d rather not. Thanks for the food.”
You grab the bag from the table and walk out without turning around. You’re annoyed with this whole situation. Maybe you’re overreacting, but either way, you don’t care.
You climb into your car and race to your grandparent's lake house. You’re hungry, you’re starting to bruise, and you’re already over this day. When you get home, you heat the cold sandwich and replay the events of earlier, and scoff slightly. It maybe wasn’t the biggest deal in the world, but you were mad, and you hope that you never have to see Jack Hanes again.
**********
Fate wasn’t kind to you, and the second time you got hit by Jack Hughes, you really took it personally. However, this time thankfully, it wasn’t his car.
A few days later, you were standing in a crowded bar close to your grandparent's lake home with some friends visiting from school. The place was packed, far busier than you ever liked it. What was supposed to be a quiet girls' night out had turned wild when endless people began flooding in. All around you, people were packed closely, and you were getting jolted left and right. Normally you would be pissed, but you were feeling good. You have had a few drinks, and your friends are the funniest people in the room.
You’re sipping on whatever drink your friend got you, scanning the bar for prey. Yes, It’s a girl's night, but you all are on the lookout for men. Being summer in Michigan and close to the lake, you’re keenly aware that attractive men surround you. And what’s wrong with wanting a little attention?
Your attention is ripped away from scanning when a body collides with yours and almost sends you flying to the ground. However, before you fall, a set of hands grabs your waist and sets you straight.
It takes a minute for you to register what happened, especially since alcohol is in your system, but once you turn and see who had almost knocked you down, your eyes narrow.
“You.” You hiss.
Jack's eyes widen a bit, and recognition takes over his features.
“You gotta be kidding me.” You speak again, looking down at the hands still steading you.
Jack notices his hand placement and quickly removes them, throwing a semi-shy smile. “We have to stop meeting like this.”
You roll your eyes at the boy in front of you and scoff. “Maybe you should stop hitting me then.”
Jack lets out a snort but then recovers. “I’m sorry about the first time. And I’m sorry again for now. My buddy Trevor gets pretty wild, and I decided to take down whoever was closest to me.”
He points to an attractive blonde hair guy behind him who looks like he’s beyond toasted, so you believe that it wasn’t entirely Jacks's fault.
“I guess you’re forgiven. Just try to stop causing bodily harm toward me; I’d like to live to see thirty.”
Jack cringes when you say bodily harm, and he leans in next to your ear, a question spilling from his mouth without thinking.
“Are you okay?” His voice is soft and laced with concern.
If you weren’t slightly drunk, you would have never done it, but before you stop yourself, you pull the hem of your jeans down and show off your wicked yet small bruise. It looks pretty wild in the bar's dim light; you have to admit.
As Jack's eyes scan over the bruise, his face drops. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.”
As he guiltily speaks, you let a bubbly laugh out.
“Oh my god, don’t worry about it. This is the only evidence, and it doesn’t hurt badly at all.“
He doesn’t seem convinced, so you continue.
“Seriously, Hanes, I’m not gonna sue you. Relax.”
This time Jack lets out a small laugh and does correct you.
“Hughes, my name is Jack Hughes.”
You nod your head and smile. “Ah, Hughes, I like that better.”
You can’t see it, but Jack flushes a shade deeper, and then he remembers he doesn’t even know who you are, and he really, really wants to.
“Well, I’ve tried to kill you twice. Can I know your name?”
You scan him up and down and contemplate but decide to throw him a bone.
“(Y/N) (L/N), I would say nice to meet you, but I could think of a lot nicer ways.”
Jack snorts again and shakes his head. “I am really sorry about hitting you. Twice. And I’m also sorry I came across as an asshole.”
You think back to earlier in the week, and you find yourself nodding. “Yeah, you were, but I’m not holding a grudge. It’s forgotten.”
He nods at your admission and smiles slightly. Then he pauses, the gears turning in his head. He thinks about whether or not what he’s about to do is a good idea, but he decides it is.
“I think I didn’t know how to act because I was super nervous talking to you.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Why?”
He leans closer to you as if he is telling you a secret. “Well, I was having a great day, and suddenly I hit a pretty girl with my car. Then I act like an ass, and you put me in my place.”
You pull back a bit to look at him as he continues.
“And I found that really, really hot.”
You shove him away from you as he finishes.
“You’re so full of it.”
He puts his hand up in mock hurt, but you can see the sincerity behind his eyes as he talks.
“I’m not kidding; I wanted your number the second I saw you sitting surrounded by spilled coffee and a breakfast sandwich. But I got nervous, and then I wasn’t thinking and said something stupid, and then you were gone.” He pauses. “Now you’re here, and I kinda feel like this is a second chance.”
You give him a hard once over, deciding if this is worth your time. He is very good-looking, apparently not that big of an asshole, and needs a driving lesson, but he seems genuine.
“Fine, you can have my number. But only if you introduce my best friend to your friend over there. She’s really into blondes.”
A huge smile breaks across his face, and he pulls out his phone. You grab it and begin typing away when he throws one last remark toward you.
“Hey, at least we will have a good story to tell people about how we met.”
(Bonus - Three Months Later)
“Jack, stop. This is stupid.” He waves you off as he continues tightening his helmet and hockey pads.
Once he finishes, he stands directly in from of his Range Rover.
“It’s totally safe, and I believe in an eye for an eye. So get in the car and back into me.”
You roll your eyes at your boyfriend and shake your head. “Jack, I’m not going to hit you with your car.”
He gives you an exasperated look, gesturing back to his gear. “You didn’t have padding, so you should feel better knowing I won’t get hurt. Come on.”
He throws you the keys, but you keep your feet planted in front of you.
“Jack. I’m not going to hit my boyfriend, who has a hockey season coming up with his car.”
“Then just gently back into me; it’s only fair.”
You really don’t think you’re going to win this, so you huff and find yourself climbing into the driver's seat.
You take a minute, hoping he’ll think better, but he doesn’t remove himself. You know how stubborn your boyfriend is, and you know he won’t let this go until you do it. So, you throw the car in reverse and gently back into him.
You feel the car make contact and see Jack stumble back. You can’t help but laugh and throw the vehicle and park and jump out.
He is sitting on the ground, smirking up at you. “There, was that so hard?”
You roll your eyes. “Maybe I should hit you again, smack the attitude out.”
He grins at your statement, and you pull him to his feet. He leans down then and connects your lips with a sweet kiss that has you smiling.
You think maybe he was right; now you’re even. At least until the next time.
Thanks for reading, I love you.

love's responsibillity | n.h
Tumblr media
nico hischier x fem!reader
summary: Nico falls for y/n and her son Jude.
Tumblr media
You were a graphic designer for the New Jersey Devils, having landed the job shortly after the birth of your son, Jude. Known for your quiet and introverted nature, you preferred to speak only when spoken to or when necessary, not out of rudeness but simply due to your more reserved demeanor. Despite your reserved nature, Nico, had noticed you often lingering around the team's practice sessions, engrossed in your iPad, sketching away.
One day, Nico approached Timo and inquired about your presence. Timo nonchalantly replied, "Oh, that's y/n. She's the one who designs all the flyers and posters for us." Nico shrugged, but his gaze lingered on you as you made your way towards the team's offices, piquing his curiosity even more.
-
As you stepped through the front door after a long day at work, the joyful sound of Jude's gurgles greeted your ears. Making your way into the living room, you spotted Kelly, Jude's nanny, emerging from the kitchen with a warm smile. "Hey, y/n," she greeted you before gathering her belongings and bidding farewell. You scooped up Jude, his eyes brimming with adoration as he looked at you, and planted a gentle kiss on his head, reciprocating the love he radiated.
After settling Jude in his playpen, you proceeded to prepare dinner. With the delicious aroma wafting through the air, you took a moment to glance through your emails. Among the messages, an email from your boss, Harris, caught your attention. Clicking on it, you quickly scanned the contents and composed a prompt reply. It seemed you had the task of getting the players to collaborate on drawing a poster for the upcoming opening game.
you swiftly sketched up a few ideas that would provide the players with a visual reference for their collaborative poster. Carefully tucking the sketches into your bag, you gently lifted sleeping Jude from his playpen and cradled him in your arms. As you gazed down at his peaceful face, you couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of your slumbering baby. With a tender smile, you carefully placed Jude into his crib, taking a moment to watch over him as he continued to sleep soundly.
-
The following morning, you approached Lindy, politely asking if he could gather the players for a brief meeting. As the guys lined up, with Lindy introducing you, you cleared your throat to capture their attention. "Good afternoon, everyone. I'm the head graphic designer for the team, responsible for creating and approving most of our posters and banners," you explained, gesturing towards the banner proudly displayed on the ceiling. "Mr. Harris has requested your input on designing a poster for the upcoming opening game."
While delivering your message, your eyes met Nico's, and for a brief moment, he appeared slightly flustered, quickly averting his gaze.
Continuing with your instructions, you added, "Feel free to brainstorm together, bounce ideas off each other, and if you need any assistance or guidance, don't hesitate to visit me in my office. I'm here to help." With that, you expressed gratitude to Lindy for arranging the meeting and made your way towards your office. As you walked away, Nico's gaze followed you, momentarily captivated by your presence. His reverie was interrupted by Jack nudging him playfully. "Looks like someone has a little crush," Jack teased, a mischievous smirk forming on his face. Nico's cheeks flushed, unable to deny the truth behind Jack's words.
Nico's blush deepened as he realized his feelings for you were becoming apparent to others. He playfully nudged Jack back, attempting to brush off the comment. "Ah, come on, don't start with that," he chuckled, trying to maintain his composure.
Meanwhile, thoughts of you lingered in Nico's mind as he contemplated your talents and the way you carried yourself. He couldn't deny the intrigue he felt, wanting to know more about the person behind the reserved demeanor. Perhaps this project would give him the opportunity to interact with you more.
-
Around 2:30 in the afternoon, a sharp knock on your office door interrupted your work. Looking up, you noticed Nico standing there, holding a slightly crumpled piece of paper in his hand. You offered him a small, welcoming smile, gesturing for him to come inside.
"Hi," he mumbled, his cheeks flushed from the intense workout session. "Hey Nico, what's up?" you asked
"The guys came up with this," he replied, sliding the paper over to you. As you scanned the content, you noticed that it was a bit messy and lacked cohesion.
"It's a little messy," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. You smiled reassuringly, understanding the potential behind their ideas. "It just needs a little color, but can you help me out to make out what that is?" you asked, getting up from your desk and standing right next to him.
As you leaned closer to examine the details, Nico's face flushed, captivated by the proximity. From that close, he could almost count your lashes, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.
He cleared his throat, shifting his gaze back to the drawing. "I think that's supposed to be the logo?" he stated, but it came out more as a question, uncertain of his interpretation. You couldn't help but laugh at his uncertainty, a sound that struck Nico as angelic and filled the room with warmth.
"Yeah, thank goodness the guys never wanted to be artists," you mumbled humorously as you rose from your leaning position, making your way to the copy machine to reproduce the drawing. Oblivious to Nico's gaze upon you, you focused on the task at hand.
As you settled into a seat next to him, Nico gathered his thoughts and finally found the words to break the silence. "How long have you been designing stuff for the team?" he inquired, genuinely interested in your experience.
"Since 2017," you replied, retrieving a bag filled with pencils and sketching tools. Taking a swift and fluid motion, you started sketching, swiftly coming up with something similar to the drawing that had been presented. The movements of your hands were confident and precise, showcasing your artistic expertise. Nico watched, mesmerized by your creative process and the way your ideas effortlessly flowed onto the paper.
You turned the paper towards Nico, seeking his opinion. "What do you think?" you asked, curious about his reaction. Nico's amazement was evident as he gazed at what you had created in such a short amount of time. "Wow," he exclaimed, his admiration shining through.
Placing the paper in front of him, you inquired about the colors. "What do you think about the colors, though?" you asked, sliding the bag of colored pencils closer to him. Unbeknownst to you, your closeness had increased, and as you looked up, you realized your lips were almost brushing against each other. A brief moment of anticipation lingered between you both as Nico found himself leaning in slightly, but just as quickly, you pulled back, becoming aware of the proximity.
Nico cleared his throat, his face flushing with a mix of embarrassment and uncertainty. "Uh, I think I need to go. I think the coach needs me," he stammered, a hint of disappointment in his voice. You nodded in understanding, offering a small smile.
-
As you sat down on the floor with Jude that evening, your mind kept replaying the moment with Nico, causing your cheeks to flush with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Lost in your thoughts, you were suddenly brought back to reality by a knock on your door. Glancing at the clock, you felt a sense of confusion. Jude, noticing your perplexed expression, furrowed his tiny brow, eliciting a small laugh from you.
Curiosity piqued, you rose from the floor and approached the door, Jude's curious eyes following your movements. Checking the peephole, you were surprised to find Nico standing on the other side. Your heart skipped a beat as you contemplated the reason for his unexpected visit.
Feeling a sudden rush of anticipation, you hastily fixed your hair as best as you could before opening the door. Standing there was Nico, holding up the paper you had sketched earlier. "We came up with some of the colors," he said, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. You offered him a small, warm smile, appreciating his efforts.
As you glanced behind you to check on Jude, who was still sitting on the floor looking up at you both with a puzzled expression, Nico's gaze followed yours. His expression shifted, a mixture of surprise and realization crossing his face as he noticed the baby on the floor. The sight seemed to momentarily catch him off guard, leaving him momentarily speechless.
You turned your attention back to Nico, offering him a soft and inviting tone. "Do you want to come in?" you asked, stepping aside to make way for him to enter. Nico glanced at you, then cast a gentle gaze toward Jude, who was still sitting on the floor. A warm smile formed on Nico's face as he extended his hand in a small wave. Surprisingly, Jude reciprocated the gesture, waving back at Nico with a curious and innocent expression.
As you closed the door behind you, you noticed Nico's gaze fixed on Jude, his curiosity evident. He then turned his attention back to you, his words carrying a hint of surprise and embarrassment. "I didn't know you were married," he blurted out, realizing the implications of his earlier actions in your office.
You gently shook your head, a soft smile playing on your lips. "I'm not. It's just me and Jude," you clarified, scooping up Jude from the floor and walking towards the kitchen. Nico followed and took a seat, his face still flushed with a mix of embarrassment and relief.
Curiosity sparked within you, and you looked over at Nico, questioning how he had managed to find your address. His blush deepened as he responded, "Oh... I had to ask your assistant." You smiled at his admission, understanding the motivation behind his actions.
"Oh," you acknowledged, strapping Jude into his high chair. Turning to Nico, you informed him, "I'm going to get some stuff for the final draft. I'll be right back." With that, you slipped out of the kitchen, leaving Nico alone with Jude.
Nico shifted his attention to Jude, who observed him with curious eyes. Soon enough, Jude started to fuss, expressing his discontent. Realizing that you weren't returning immediately, Nico decided to undo the straps and lifted Jude from the high chair, gently bouncing him in his arms. Gradually, Jude's fussiness subsided as he found comfort resting his head against Nico's chest.
As Nico held Jude, he couldn't help but wonder to himself how someone could leave behind such a beautiful woman and an adorable baby.
As you walked back into the kitchen, the sight of Nico comforting Jude made your heart swell with warmth. Nico, feeling a bit uncertain, expressed his concern about Jude crying. However, you reassured him with a wave of your hand, assuring him that it was perfectly fine.
Taking your seats at the table, you engaged in small talk with Nico while simultaneously sketching the poster. Jude's happy babbles added a cheerful soundtrack to the room, creating a lively atmosphere. Occasionally, Nico would slip in a few flirtatious comments, but you always brushed them off, leaving him slightly perplexed.
-
After turning in the final draft of the poster, Nico's visits to your office continued, even though the task was completed. You perceived his presence as friendly, unaware of his true intentions. Little did you know, Nico had been wanting to ask you out on a date for some time now. However, every time he tried to broach the subject, you skillfully changed the topic, leaving him feeling uncertain and unsure of how to proceed.
Nico found himself drawn to your enigmatic personality and the way you effortlessly balanced your responsibilities as a graphic designer and a single mother. He admired your independence and dedication, making him even more determined to pursue a deeper connection with you. However, the difficulty he faced in expressing his intentions only added to his fascination with your presence.
-
Nico was over at the apartment, and after putting Jude down for a nap, you joined him on the couch. The two of you decided to watch a thriller movie, hoping to unwind and enjoy each other's company. As the movie played, Nico couldn't resist the growing connection between you, and he instinctively wrapped his arm around you. In that intimate moment, both of you leaned in, sharing a passionate kiss. His hands wandered to your waist, caressing it gently, while your own hands found their way into his hair, deepening the intensity of the kiss.
However, the moment was short-lived as you pulled away, standing up and adjusting your top. "Nico, we can't," you uttered, your voice filled with both longing and hesitation. You walked to the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water, with Nico following closely behind. Confusion etched across his face, he questioned, "Why not?"
You gripped the edge of the counter, your knuckles turning white. Gathering your thoughts, you turned to face Nico, determined to express your concerns. "Nico, I'm not the girl you usually date. I'm not fresh out of college or living by myself. I have other responsibilities," you explained, your voice tinged with a mix of vulnerability and strength. His face contorted with anger, and he shot back, "So what? Jude is great. Are you saying that he's getting in the way of us?" Nico's frustration caused his accent to thicken, reflecting his emotions.
Feeling a surge of frustration, you looked at him with anger in your eyes. "I never said that, Nico. Don't put words into my mouth," you said firmly, trying to maintain your composure. Nico took a leap of faith and grabbed your face, giving you another kiss. This time, you relaxed into the kiss, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside you. He pulled back, searching your eyes for any hesitation.
"I like you, y/n," Nico confessed, his gaze filled with hope and longing. You shook your head, your mind racing with conflicting thoughts. "Don't do this to yourself," you said, trying to distance yourself from the situation. Walking back towards the living room, you tried to put some space between you and Nico.
However, Nico wasn't willing to let go so easily. He grabbed your belt loops, pulling you back towards him. "Tell me you don't want this, and we'll pretend this never happened," he pleaded, his voice filled with a mixture of desperation and determination. You looked down, uncertain about how to proceed. Sensing your hesitation, Nico gently grasped your chin, making you meet his gaze.
"I want to be with you and Jude," he declared, his words filled with sincerity and affection. You felt your heart flutter, torn between the fear of complications and the possibility of something beautiful. Giving him a small smile, you leaned in and kissed his lips tenderly.
"Okay," you whispered, surrendering to the connection between you. Nico's face lit up with a mix of relief and happiness. "Yeah?" he asked, a hopeful smile gracing his lips. "Yeah," you confirmed, bringing him in for another kiss. In that moment, you decided to embrace the uncertainty and take a chance on love, knowing that together you could navigate the challenges that lay ahead.

Baskets and Babies
a/n: we got a whole lot of dad content today and I’m not complaining
warning: pregnancy
Tumblr media
The decision to go back home with Jack was a pretty easy one. When you had first found out you were pregnant one of the first things you both thought about was how the baby would be coming in the summer time which meant the decision of where you were having the baby was open. Both of you could stay in New Jersey since that is where your home was during the actual season and where you would be raising the baby. It was also where your doctor was for most of the pregnancy.
Or you could both go back home for the summer which did mean having to find a doctor for the last month and a half of your pregnancy. Yes it was scary and stressful but one perk was you had family around you guys there. Of course you knew that Ellen and Jim would fly to New Jersey to see their grandbaby but they wouldn’t be able to stay long term and at least for two months you would have help. This of course was something Ellen and Jim had told both of you if you did decide to go back home.
The decision was made and now here you both were. The boys and Jim were currently in a game of basketball as you sat next to Ellen on the sidelines. You would be the first to admit that Jack was not doing his best during this game or any of the other games that came before. He kept getting distracted and you knew it was because he kept looking at you and pausing to come check on you.
A gasp left your lips when Luke threw the ball at Jack but his attention had been elsewhere which meant he didn’t have enough time to react before he got hit with it. “Come on, Jack. Pay attention dude. We’re getting smoked right now.” Luke whined which caused Ellen to laugh beside you. “Boys.” She playfully rolled her eyes as she looked over at you. Your hand immediately went to your stomach and a smile grew on your lips as you felt your own little boy kick.
“Babe, your son is kicking away.” Those were all the words he needed to hear before ditching the game to press his hand to your stomach. A smile grew on his lips and you knew he could feel the little kicks. “Little man is active today.” He leaned in, pressing a kiss to your lips. “Jack!” You could hear Luke whine from somewhere behind Jack and a frustrated sigh escaped Jacks lips. “Coming.” He mumbled before getting up.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen that look on his face. Ever. Not with a single hockey thing. That boy is head over heels in love with you.” Ellen gave you a warm smile as she looked down at your belly. “Is it okay if I feel my little grandson kicking too?” You nod your head at her, placing her hand where you could still feel some of the little kicks. “I can’t wait to see him become a father and to see you become a mother. Both of you are going to be amazing parents.”
