YOU SWORE YOU'D NEVER COME back to New Jersey โ but, here you were.
How you ended up here, tipsy and alone in this bar? You're not exactly sure. What you do know is that the night started in your childhood home with your parent's very expensive bottle of wine. And now you were here, in downtown Jersey in one of your old high school dresses that fits a little tighter than it did almost 5 years ago.
Your lips were stained red as you ordered another glass of Blueberry Gin & Tonic. You didn't know when you had started drinking Gin & Tonic but a lot had changed in the last couple of months. You didn't even know who you really were anymore, it was blurry.
And you could blame all of that on your high-school sweetheart โ the person you'd thought you'd spend the rest of your life with. Key word: thought, as in past-tense.
As you swirled the ice in your glass, memories flooded back like a tidal wave crashing against the shore of your mind. The late-night drives down highway roads, the whispered promises of forever, and the way your heart used to skip a beat at the sight of his smile. But somewhere along the way, those promises faded into echoes, and the smiles became almost bitter memories.
It all came crashing down a few months ago. The pain was like a dagger through your heart, leaving you gasping for air in a world suddenly devoid of color. You lost the one person in your life who made you, you. You had to relearn who you really were without him.
And in the aftermath, you tried to pick up the pieces of your shattered and almost confusing life, but the wounds were too deep, the scars too raw. So you ran, running from the memories that now haunted you, seeking solace in the anonymity of far-away cities and unfamiliar faces.
But no matter how far you ran, you couldn't outrun the ghosts of your past. They followed you like shadows, lurking in the corners of your mind, waiting for a moment of weakness to strike.
And tonight was no different.
When your eyes locked with his familiar blue ones, a particular ghost of your past appeared. And you didn't miss the way you felt your heart skip a beat when you saw his now grown-out hair (you'd never let him grow it out when you were together) and his soft stubble that you always made him shave. But it suited him, he looked more mature.
But you weren't surprised, it almost seemed like fate. Almost. If it weren't for the fact that you knew, in the back of your mind, he always liked spending his Saturdays playing pool with his friends, in this exact bar. You pretended like you hadn't planned this entire thing.
And so you feigned ignorance, pretending as if you hadn't noticed him at all. You kept gazing at him, taking him in. You felt the anger rise in your body as your nose flared, beginning to think sober up again. You took another swig of your drink and turned away from him, you could practically hear the wheels turning inside his head as he analyzed you right back.
A few moments pass and as you predicted, you felt a tap on your shoulder. "Y/N?"
You met his gaze and it felt so much different from the last time he'd looked at you. He looked... surprised? Is that even the right word? You felt his eyes scan you up and down, the tight dress fitting you perfectly in his mind.
You, too, had changed since the last time he'd saw you. Your hair was slightly shorter and more put together, you looked healthier and more mature. Less like a teenager and more like an adult now, but that's just how aging works, right? Not only did your looks change, but the way you carried yourself.
God, you were sexy. Jack always knew you were beautiful, it was undeniable. But after not seeing you for months now, you looked like a dream โ a hauntingly beautiful vision that stirred something deep within him. He couldn't help but be mesmerized by the way you carried yourself, with a newfound confidence and poise that spoke of strength.
He was at a loss of words. But it was Jack, of course he didn't let it show. He plastered on his award-winning smirk and let his gaze fall back on to your face. "I didn't know you were back in Jersey, you shoulda texted."
Your face contorted into surprise. Was he really trying to pretend like nothing happened? Oh, two can play that game. "I was just visiting family." Your red lips turned into a tipsy smile. "But you're right, I should've texted. How have you been?"
"Awesome. Is this seat taken?" Jack didn't wait for an answer, he just pulled out a chair and sat down. He glanced down at your drink, the smirk still very much evident in face.
God, how much you wanted to just smash his face in. But you swallowed the anger with your drink, letting him study you for a few more moments.
"Since when do you drink?" His tone was amused as he watched you swallow the liquid so effortlessly, like it was water.
Since you left, you wanted to shout. "Not until recently."
You watched as he leaned back in his chair, studying you with an intensity that made your skin crawl. "And what brought about this newfound appreciation for alcohol?" He asked, his tone still but the underlying curiosity evident in his eyes.
"Life." you said simply, your voice barely above a whisper. "Life has a funny way of changing things."
He nodded, as if he understood, but you could see the doubt flickering behind his eyes. He didn't know the half of it, didn't know the pain and the heartache you had endured in his absence. And part of you wanted to keep it that way, wanted to shield him from the truth of how much he had hurt you.
But another part of you, a smaller part buried deep within all the hurt and bitterness, wanted him to know. Wanted him to see the scars he had left on your soul, to feel the weight of the words left unsaid between you. But not to burden him, to somehow reverse all the pain he'd caused you.
"So, what have you been up to?" you asked, deflecting the conversation away from yourself. "Anything exciting?" By anything, you really meant anyone.
You saw the way Jack's smirk faltered as he shook his head. "Nope, nothin' new." But he knew that you knew the real answer.
Two months, it took him two months to move on from a 4 year relationship. "Really?" you asked, your voice laced with skepticism. "No new hobbies, no new friends, no new... interests?"
Jack chuckled, a sheepish grin spreading across his face as he leaned in closer to you, his gaze locking with yours in a way that sent a shiver down your spine. "Well, I might have picked up a few new hobbies," he admitted, his voice low. "But nothing as exciting as running into you here, that's for sure."
Despite yourself, you felt a small, genuine smile tug at the corners of your lips at his charming response. He had always had a way with words, a charisma that could disarm even the most guarded of hearts.
"There she is," his voice was soft as he watched the curves of your lips turn upward. "I missed that."
His words sent a warm flutter through your chest, a mixture of nostalgia and longing swirling within you like a whirlpool. Despite everything that had happened between you, there was still a part of you that missed the comfort of his presence, the familiarity of his smile.
"Well, don't let it get to your head," you teased, although the playful tone of your voice couldn't mask the vulnerability lurking beneath the surface. "I wouldn't want you thinking you can charm your way out of everything."
"I'm not trying to, trust me. I can't help it." Jack smirked as he shrugged. "And for the record, I did miss it. I don't remember the last time I've seen your genuine smile."
Your smile faltered as your stomach squeezed in anxiety. The last couple of months of your relationship was spent only arguing, and the smiles had become a rarity, buried beneath layers of resentment and hurt. You swallowed hard, the memories of those final days weighing heavy on your heart like a rock.
"Yeah, well, it's been a while," you said, your voice barely above a whisper as you fought to push aside the memories threatening to overwhelm you. "A lot has changed since then."
"I can tell," his eyes scanned your body and you felt your heart jump. He wet his lips as his blue eyes met yours again, a grin playing on his lips. "I remember this dress. You wore it at my draft party, I remember."
Your breath caught in your throat at his words, memories of that night flooding back with a rush of emotions. You remembered the excitement in the air, the pride shining in his family's eyes as he celebrated the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
"Yeah, I remember," you said softly, your voice tinged with nostalgia. "It feels like so long ago."
Jack nodded, a wistful smile playing at the corners of his lips as he reached across the table to brush a stray lock of hair from your face, his touch sending a shiver down your spine. "I never forgot that night," he said, his voice low and sincere. "Or how beautiful you looked in this dress."
Your heart skipped a beat and you felt like the air was knocked out of you at his words. Goddamn him, his smooth-talk, and that damned cologne that made you feel high off of him. "Shut up," was all you could muster as Jack chuckled.
"Let's go take a walk."
And like always, Jack didn't wait for an answer. He just grabbed your hand and began walking toward the exit. Your mind raced as Jack's touch sent a jolt of electricity coursing through your veins. And despite your inner turmoil and the warning bells ringing in your head, there was a part of you that couldn't resist the pull of his charm, the familiarity of his touch.
You hated how he still had this effect on you and how confident he was, he always made decisions for you. You're not sure if it's really a bad thing, because how can something so bad feel so insanely good?
"Okay," you said softly more to yourself than him, your voice barely above a whisper. You allowed him to lead you away from the dimly lit bar and out into the cool night air.
As you walked side by side, the silence between you heavy with unspoken words and unresolved tension, you couldn't help but feel a sense of dรฉjร vu wash over you. It was like stepping back in time, back to a simpler era when the world was young and full of promise.
Jack pulled you into his chest as you walked, his arm wrapping protectively around your shoulders as you leaned into him, seeking solace in his familiar warmth.
Despite everything, despite the pain and the heartache, a part of you still longed for the comfort of his embrace, for the reassurance of his presence by your side.
"The dress still fits you so well," Jack finally spoke up. You could feel practically hear the grin on his face as you rolled your eyes, a smile tugging on your lips.
"Yeah, well, it's a good thing I haven't outgrown it," you replied, your voice light and teasing as you leaned into his embrace subconsciously.
Jack chuckled, his arm tightening around you. "You'd look in a garbage bag, princess. You can never outgrow anything."
"Flattery will get you nowhere, Jack." You quipped.
"It's gotten me this fair, huh?" Jack's tone was amused as you felt yourself roll your eyes at his cockiness. He let out a laugh as he squeezed your arms, the way he knew you liked.
You wanted to slap the smirk off his face but instead, you just shook your head at his teasing. He still knew you so well, even after so long. As much as you wanted to resist his charm, there was a small part of you that couldn't help but be swept away by it. Jack had always had a way of getting under your skin, of finding the cracks in your armor and worming his way into your heart.
"You're insufferable," you said, though the teasing lilt in your voice betrayed the fondness you couldn't quite suppress.
Jack chuckled, his laughter warm and infectious as he leaned in closer to press a kiss to your temple, his lips lingering against your skin for a moment longer than necessary.
"But you love me anyway," he said, his voice soft as he met your gaze with a knowing smile.
You couldn't deny the truth of his words, no matter how much you wanted to. Despite everything, despite the pain and the heartache, a part of you still loved him โ had always loved him. Would you always love him?
You gazed back at him, his grin even bigger as his hand squeezed your arms again. The more you stared, the more you slipped back right where he wanted. Fuck, you were back.
Your hands came up to touch his soft stubble, one of the many new things about him. Something you never thought you'd like, you swore his clean-face was your favorite but he proved you wrong.
"You like it?" Jack asked, his voice low and husky as he watched you trace your fingers along his stubbled jawline. There was a glint of satisfaction in his eyes, a silent acknowledgment of the power he still held over you.
"Yeah," you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper as you met his gaze, your fingers lingering against his stubble. "It suits you. You look... different, but in a good way."
A smile tugged at the corners of Jack's lips, his eyes sparkling with gratitude as he reached up to gently cup your cheek in his hand, his touch sending shivers down your spine.
"Thank you," he said, his voice warm with sincerity. "I'm glad you think so."
You smiled genuinely, the anger slowly dissipating as you looked into the eyes of the man you'd once loved, wholeheartedly. His face may have changed but his gaze was still the same, the same blue eyes you'd been drawn to from the beginning.
"Let's head back to the car, yeah?" His voice came out hoarse and low, you could hear practically hear the need in his voice. And again, you let him lead you back to his car and eventually, to his home.
Your lips curved into a smirk, you'd had gotten exactly what you'd sought out to do. You'd gotten him back, but who ever doubted you?

Summary: Jack and Y/N meet by chance at their local coffee shop on a day clouded with uncertainty. A piece of good news finds its way to Y/N, giving her the strength to keep moving forward.

...
The air in the dimly lit home is heavy and oppressive, like a thick fog that clings to your skin as you stumble through the door. The alcohol coursing through your veins dulls your senses, making the world around you feel distant and muted.
Jason sits on the worn couch, his posture rigid and unmoving, like a statue carved from ice. His eyes, once warm and inviting, now bore into you with an intensity that sends a chill down your spine.
The shadows cast by the weak light play across his face, accentuating the hard lines of his jaw and the deep furrows of his brow.
As you come into view, disheveled and intoxicated, his features contort with a mixture of anger and disappointment. The lines around his mouth deepen, his lips pressed together in a thin, disapproving line. His eyes narrow, the icy blue of his irises almost grey in the gloom, like a winter sky heavy with the promise of snow.
"You're home late. Where were you?" His voice is calm, but it carries an edge.
You try to steady yourself, but the room spins around you, the walls closing in as if to suffocate you. You struggle to find your words, your tongue thick and clumsy in your mouth, the taste of regret bitter and metallic.
"Out with the girls," you manage to slur out, the words sounding hollow and unconvincing even to your own ears. You kick off your heels, the clatter breaking the heavy silence like the crack of ice on a frozen pond.
He rises from the couch with a deliberate slowness, his movements calculated and menacing, like a predator stalking its prey. The air seems to grow colder as he approaches, the chill emanating from his body palpable even from a distance. He closes the distance between you, his presence looming over you like a gathering storm.
He latches onto your purse, his grip tight and possessive, his fingers digging into the soft leather like talons. "You were flirting with other guys, werenโt you?"
His words are laced with accusation, each syllable like a shard of ice piercing your already raw nerves. The cold fury in his voice is like a winter gale, cutting through you and leaving you shivering in its wake.
Tears prick at the corners of your eyes, you shake your head, movements jerky and unsteady, as if your body is fighting against the weight of his accusations.
"No, Jason, I told you, I was just out with my friends. I wasn't flirting with anyone." The words feel hollow and meaningless. The chill of his gaze seeps into your bones, leaving you numb and aching.
He steps closer, his presence overwhelming as he towers over you, his broad frame blocking out what little light remains in the room. "I don't believe you, Y/N. You've always been too friendly with guys. I know you're hiding something from me."
Desperation claws at your chest, you plead with him, your voice cracking with emotion, "I'm not hiding anything! Why can't you trust me for once?" The question hangs between you.
Your words are a desperate prayer for understanding, for forgiveness, for a chance to thaw the barrier that has grown between you and salvage what's left of the love you once shared.
His grip tightens on your purse, his knuckles turning white with the intensity of his hold. His eyes blaze with a fury that seems to consume him from within.
Under the weight of his gaze, you feel small and insignificant.
"Because every time I trust you, you betray me! You're always sneaking around, meeting up with guys behind my back. I can't take it anymore!" His voice rises with each word, the volume cutting through your silence,
Tears spill over onto your cheeks, the hot saltwater a stark contrast to the cold emptiness that fills your chest. They cascade down your face, leaving glistening trails that reflect the lights.
"Jason, pleaseโฆ I love you, but I can't keep doing this. I can't live like this anymore." The words come out in a choked whisper.
For a moment, his expression softens, the hard lines of his face smoothing out like snow drifts in the fleeting warmth of the sun.
"You're just like all the rest. Always looking for an excuse to leave me. Well, go ahead then. Leave. See if I care."
With a final, wrenching sob, you turn away from him, your footsteps heavy and leaden as you make your way towards the door.
The cold metal of the handle bites into your palm as you grasp it. But before you can turn the handle, Jason's voice cuts through the silence, his tone suddenly weary and defeated.
You pause, your hand still resting on the doorknob, your heart pounding in your chest as you brace yourself for whatever new accusation or insult he's about to hurl your way.
But when you turn to face him, the expression on his face is one you've never seen before. Gone is the anger and the suspicion, replaced by a look of guilt and shame that makes your stomach twist.
"I've been seeing someone else for the past few months. I... I didn't know how to tell you."
You stare at him, your mind reeling as you try to process the implications of his words. All this time, while he was accusing you of sneaking around and betraying him, he was the one who was being unfaithful.
"How could you?" you whisper, your voice barely audible over the roaring in your ears. "How could you do this to me, to us?"
Jason shrugs, his eyes cold and unapologetic as he meets your gaze. "I'm sorry, Y/N, but what did you expect? It's not like we were going to last forever anyway. You pushed me away, always nagging and complaining about every little thing. I felt like I was suffocating in this relationship."
"When I met her, it was like a breath of fresh air. She understands me in a way you never could. She doesn't try to change me or control me like you do."
You thought you knew him, thought you understood the depths of his love for you.

2 months later
You stood in line at 'The Brew' coffee shop, the warm, inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloping you like a comforting embrace. The rich scent of roasted beans mingled with the subtle sweetness of vanilla and caramel.
Ahead of you, a charming elderly couple deliberated over their order, their laughter filling the cozy space. The woman poked her husband, her lips curved into a playful smile. "Do you think we should try something new today? Maybe one of those fancy lattes?" Her voice was a melodic lilt.
Her husband chuckled softly, the sound a deep, rich rumble that seemed to emanate from his very core. His hand rested gently on his wife's shoulder. His eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled down at her.
"You know how much I love my black coffee," he said, his voice a soothing baritone. "But if you want to try something new, I'm more than happy to indulge you."
As you waited patiently, your eyes wandered to the man next to you, who seemed lost in thought. He was engrossed in a conversation on his phone, his brow furrowed in concentration, creating a series of deep lines that etched themselves into his forehead.
He shuffled his feet nervously, the movement causing the light to catch on the polished leather of his shoes. His gaze flickered to the menu before him, a brief moment of indecision flashing across his face.
Your curiosity piqued, you couldn't help but steal a glance at him, admiring the way the soft, golden light of the cafรฉ danced across his features, The angles of his jawline were sharp and defined, a stark contrast to the soft, inviting curve of his lips.
The air seemed to crackle with an invisible energy. Who was he speaking to, and what stories lay hidden behind those piercing, enigmatic eyes? The questions danced on the tip of your tongue, begging to be asked, as the world around you faded into a blur of color and sound.
the man beside you turned, his eyes catching yours in a moment of recognition. His lips curved into a charming smile, the corners of his mouth tugging upwards as he spoke.
"Oh hey, you're my neighbor, right?" he asked, his voice smooth and warm, like honey drizzling over freshly baked bread. โYou live on Baker Street?โ
You blinked, surprised by his sudden acknowledgment. Your eyelashes fluttered against your cheeks, "Yes, I do" you replied, your own voice soft and hesitant, a stark contrast to his confident tone. You felt your shyness begin to fade, melting away like frost under the warmth of his gaze.
"I'm Jack," he said, extending a hand towards you. His movements were fluid and graceful, his arm cutting through the space between you with a sense of purpose.
As he reached out, you noticed the way his fingers flexed, the tendons in his hand shifting beneath his skin like the strings of a finely tuned instrument.
You shook his hand, your own fingers grazing against his skin. His hand was warm and firm, his grip strong and reassuring. You could feel the roughness of his palm, the slight calluses on the skin.
"I'm Y/N," you said, your own name sounding foreign and new on your tongue.
"Nice to meet you, Y/N," Jack said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. The light seemed to dance in his irises, like stars winking in a midnight sky. "I've seen you around, but we haven't had a chance to chat."
"I'm usually too shy to say hello," you admitted, feeling a blush creep onto your cheeks. The heat rose in your face, painting your skin with a rosy hue. Your gaze darted away from his, suddenly self-conscious under the weight of his attention.
"Well, I'm glad I broke the ice," Jack said. His words were punctuated by a soft chuckle, the sound rich and inviting, like the first sip of a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. "I'm a bit of a chatterbox myself."
You laughed, finding yourself drawn to his easygoing nature. The sound of your laughter mingled with the ambient noise of the coffee shop. As the line moved forward, you approached the counter, your steps falling into sync with Jack's.
Standing nervously, your gaze fixed upon the menu, you tried to focus on placing your order. Jack stood beside you, his voice was a soothing hum, his sapphire eyes sparkling with amusement as he watched you deliberate over your choices.
As you opened your mouth to speak, Jack's voice broke the silence. "Can I have a banana muffin? And whatever she's getting, we're together." His words caught you off guard, and you turned to face him, your eyes wide with surprise.
Before you could protest, he raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a playful smirk. "Yeah, I'd like a banana muffin and a green tea as well, thanks." You uttered to the cashier.
The barista nodded, punching in the order as you stood there, momentarily stunned by Jack's gesture. You managed a small smile, your heart pounding erratically in your chest.
โฆ
You collected your drinks and made your way to a nearby table. Settling into your seats, you wrapped your hands around your warm cup, the heat seeping into your skin and grounding you in the moment.
Jack's gentle gaze fell upon your hands, and you suddenly became aware of your own nervous habit. Your fingers were picking at your cuticles, a subconscious gesture that betrayed your inner anxiety.
"You should stop doing that, you'll do some serious damage to your cuticles," Jack said softly, placing his warm hand over yours.
"Nervous habit," you whispered, your voice barely audible above the hum of conversation around you.
Glancing at Jack, you found his piercing gaze already fixed upon you. His eyes, a mesmerizing shade of blue, seemed to see right through you, as if he could read your every thought and emotion. You felt exposed, but not in a way that made you uncomfortable.
"So, Y/N," Jack said once you had paid, his voice smooth as honey. "What brings you to The Brew today?"
You fumbled through your words, your shyness threatening to hold you back. But as you looked into Jack's eyes, you saw nothing but patience and genuine interest. He listened intently to your every word, his focus unwavering as you spoke.
"Just a quick drink to fuel my day," you replied, your fingers fidgeting with the cardboard sleeve of your cup. "I have a lot of work to catch up on."
"Sounds like my kind of day," Jack said, his lips curving into a sympathetic smile. "I play sports, so I spend a lot of my down time at coffee shops."
A playful glint flashed in your eyes as a sudden burst of confidence surged through you. "Oh, so this is something you do all the time? Talk to pretty girls in coffee shops?" you said, your tone light and teasing.
Jack's eyes widened, and he sputtered, caught off guard by your unexpected quip. You raised your hands in surrender, a grin spreading across your face. "I'm kidding, Jack. What do you play?"
a laugh escaped his lips, the sound rich and warm. "Ice hockey for the Jersey Devils," he stated nonchalantly, his eyes searching your face for any sign of recognition. You nodded, a hint of uncertainty in your response. The name sounded familiar, but it was never a sport you had invested much time in.
You vaguely recalled Jason, your ex, being an avid Rangers fan, and you assumed the Devils must have been the team he was always passionately screaming about during games.
"I don't know much about the sport, but it sounds like fun. Do you enjoy it?" you asked, your tone genuine and curious.
Jack nodded, his response somewhat reserved, as if he didn't want to delve too deeply into the subject. Shifting the conversation, he inquired, "What do you write?"
"Novels, mostly," you replied, your eyes lighting up as you spoke about your passion. "Romance usually, and when I can, I help out with this sports magazine, ya know."
"I love reading romance novels," he said, his confession causing your eyes to widen in surprise. You hadn't pegged him as the type to enjoy the genre, but the revelation only served to intrigue you further.
"Well, then I guess I'll have to add you to my mailing list," you said, a mischievous grin spreading across your face.
With each sip of your green tea, you felt your nerves slowly melting away. Jack's laughter filled the air, the sound rich and infectious, and for a moment, you forgot all your worries.
As you finished your muffin, savoring the last few bites, Jack turned to you, his eyes holding a hint of something more profound.
"I'd like to see you again," he said, his voice a gentle whisper that sent shivers down your spine. "Maybe we could exchange numbers if you want to, of course?"
A surge of excitement coursed through your veins, your heart beating a little faster at the prospect of seeing him again. "Yeah, I'd really like that," you said back. You smiled, feeling a flutter in your heart as you exchanged numbers, your fingers brushing against his as you handed him your phone.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Y/N," Jack said, his voice warm and sincere. His eyes lingered on yours, holding your gaze for a moment. "I hope to see you around."
"I hope so too, Jack," you replied.

The sterile smell of disinfectant mingles with the faint aroma of latex gloves. You sit nervously in the doctor's office, your foot tapping an anxious rhythm against the tiled floor. The ticking of the clock on the wall seems to echo in your ears.
The door opens, and the doctor enters, a warm smile gracing their features. Their white coat rustles slightly as they move, the fabric crisp and pristine. The doctor's presence brings a sense of calm to the room.
"Hello, Y/N," they say kindly, their voice soft and soothing. They take a seat across from you, the leather chair creaking slightly under their weight. "Let's get started, shall we?"
You nod, swallowing hard as a lump forms in your throat. Your hands fidget in your lap, fingers intertwining and untwining as you try to calm your nerves. The doctor begins by asking about your medical history, their pen gliding smoothly across the clipboard as they jot down notes.
The conversation shifts to your recent symptoms, and you describe the fatigue that has left you drained and listless, the nasal swelling, and the tender breasts that have made even the slightest touch uncomfortable.
After discussing your health, the doctor suggests running a few tests to confirm your suspicions. "We'll start with a urine test to check for the presence of hCG," they explain, their tone reassuring. They hand you a small plastic cup, its surface cool against your fingertips. "I'll be back shortly to collect the sample."
You take the cup, your hand trembling slightly as you rise from your seat. As you make your way to the restroom. The tile floor feels cold beneath your feet.
In the privacy of the restroom, you take a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies that flutter in your stomach. You follow the instructions, your movements mechanical and precise. As you cap the sample, you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, your reflection staring back at you with a mixture of hope and trepidation.
You return to the examination room, the plastic cup clutched tightly in your hand. The doctor takes the sample, offering a reassuring smile as they prepare to run the test.
The minutes seem to stretch into hours as you wait, the silence broken only by the gentle hum of the air conditioning and the distant murmur of voices in the hallway. The waiting is the hardest part. The doctor returns to the room, a reassuring smile on their face.
ย "Thank you, Y/N. Now, while we wait for the results, can you tell me the date of your last menstrual period and any potential dates of conception?"
You take a deep breath, trying to focus your scattered thoughts. As you provide the information to the best of your recollection, a knot forms in your stomach, the memories of those moments flooding back to you.
The doctor nods, jotting down the details on their clipboard. They ask a few more questions, their tone gentle and understanding, the conversation flows naturally.
After what feels like an eternity, the doctor excuses themselves to check on the test results. The room falls silent, the only sound the ticking of the clock on the wall, each second a reminder of the life-changing news that awaits you.
When the doctor returns, they have a file in hand. They take a seat beside you, their expression softening as they meet your gaze. There's a warmth in their eyes, a sense of understanding that puts you at ease, even as your heart races in anticipation.
"Y/N," they begin gently, their voice filled with compassion, "the urine test came back positive for hCG. It looks like congratulations are in orderโyou're pregnant."
A wave of conflicting emotions washes over you, a tempestuous sea of feelings that threatens to overwhelm you. Tears well up in your eyes, a mixture of joy and sorrow, hope and fear. The doctor places a comforting hand on your shoulder.
They talk about prenatal care, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of self-care during this transformative time but it's tempered by a sense of overwhelming sadness, a bittersweet realization that this moment is not quite as you had imagined it.
โฆ
As you step into your home, the weight of the news settles upon your shoulders. Your hand instinctively finds its way to your stomach, a gentle caress that acknowledges the life growing within you.
You look around the living room, your eyes falling upon the photographs that adorn the walls and shelves. Images of you and Jason, frozen in moments of happiness and love.
One by one, you lift heavy pieces of furniture, rearranging them with a vision of a brighter future. The familiar layout melts away, replaced by a canvas upon which you can paint your hopes and dreams.
Framed photographs and cherished trinkets that once held sentimental value now seem like relics of a bygone era, you gather them up, your heart no longer clinging to their memories. The walls, once adorned with the echoes of a broken past, now stand bare, ready to be filled with the laughter and love of a new chapter.
You run your fingers lovingly over the smooth surface of your stomach just as you finish your cathartic cleanse, your phone chimes with a message.
You pick it up, a smile spreading across your face as you see Jack's name on the screen. You settle into the couch, sinking into the soft cushions as you eagerly open the message.
"Hey there, I was thinking about you. How about dinner tomorrow night? I know a great little Italian place."
Your fingers hover over the screen, poised to type a response, but hesitation grips you. Your fingers hover over the screen, poised to type a response, but hesitation takes hold. The news of your pregnancy weighs heavily on your mind, a secret that both excites and frightens you.
You know you should tell him, but doubt creeps in, insidious and persistent. You and Jack aren't even officially dating yet. Your relationship, while promising, is still new and undefined.
The thought of burdening him with this life-altering news so early on feels unfair, potentially derailing the tender connection you've begun to forge. What if the prospect of fatherhood sends him running?
"Dinner sounds perfect," you type, hitting send before you can second-guess yourself.

Luke frowned and grumbled unhappily as he squinted his eyes waking up and Sebastian wasnโt in bed, something that very very rarely happened as Luke always gets up before him.
Luke and Sebastian were staying in Ellen and Jimโs house for a few days.
Luke grumbled as got out of bed and slipped on Sebastianโs shirt and stumbled out of his room and walked down the hallway and the stairs and walked into the living room and saw the front door wide open.
Luke walked out and truly wasnโt that surprised.
Sebastian was kneeled down in the dirt in the front yard with Ellen helping her plant some new flowers and move some flowers into a bigger pots.
Ellen Hughes is the only person that could get Sebastian up before the sunrises, Sebastian always is eager to help Ellen with her flowers as he loves spending the time with Ellen and itโs something he knows Ellen loves and he doesnโt mind losing a little sleep every once in a while to spend time with her.
Luke smiled softly watching as Sebastian threw his head back laughing at something Ellen most of said and Ellen was laughing just as hard.
Luke walked across the porch and sat down on the hanging swing couch and he smiled softly seeing the blanket that he knew wasnโt there last night and knew Sebastian brought it out for Luke because Sebastian knows Luke wakes up when Sebastian isnโt in bed and expected a sleepy Luke to stumble out.
Luke laid down on the swinging couch and curled up under the blanket and closed his eyes listening to sound of his momโs and boyfriendโs laughter.
Sebastian and Ellen wiped their hands off as they got up and walked up the front stairs and they both saw Luke fast asleep on the front porch swing.
Ellen gently patted Sebastianโs shoulder and headed into the house.
Sebastian walked over and bent down in front of his boyfriend, โBaby.โ Sebastian softly cooed gently shaking Luke.
Luke mumbled but he eventually squinted his eyes and saw Sebastian, Luke happily smiled and reached his arms up and wrapped them around Sebastianโs neck pulling him closer.
โBaby i gotta shower.โ Sebastian laughed fondly knowing Luke wants to cuddle.
Luke pouted, โIโll join you.โ Luke tightened his grip on Sebastian having missed him especially as he didnโt get to wake up in bed with him.
โAlright.โ Sebastian easily agreed and leaned down grabbing Luke and picking him up and Lukeโs legs quickly wrapped around his waist as Sebastian hands stayed under his thighs.

๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐! สฒแตแถแต สฐแตแตสฐแตหข
in which jack comes home in a bad mood after getting eliminated from the playoffs but his two girls are always there for him.
song- watch you sleep. - girl in red
jack felt off, almost empty as he pulled into the driveway of his home. a frown was displayed on his face, after getting eliminated from the playoffs. his team had played a good game, but not good enough.
he opened his car door grabbing his bags and keys, making his way to the front door and opening it with one swift movement.
he dropped his bags to the ground and looked around, no one to be seen, the tv was turned off and all that could be heard was the song here comes the sun by the beatles.
it was his 4year old daughter, matildaโs favourite song, she would try her best to sing along to it, not able to even get the words correct. it always brought a smile to his face.
he made his way into the kitchen without trying to disrupt anything. he stopped from a distance as he saw his wife with matilda propped up on her right hip, dancing and singing around the kitchen as she was making something.
jack leaned against the frame of the window and just watched, a look of happiness spread across his face.
you had had a big night, from watching the game, to trying to make dinner, to trying to make matilda stop crying. the crying was never ending, and for what reason? she could never figure it out, tilly was now 4 but she was just always crying. and when you couldnโt make it stop you felt like a horrible mother.
at this very moment you had matilda on your hip and you were trying to distract her so she would stop crying. you danced around and even started singing before she stopped crying.
it was rough when jack had to go on a roadie, meaning you had to put in that little bit of extra effort around the house.
you werenโt going to lie, it was a little bit relieving knowing jack wouldnโt have alot of hockey to focus on after losing tonight. you sure felt bad for your husband though.
โneed a hand?โ jack spoke up and took matilda out of his wifeโs hands and pulled her in for a hug, โdada!โ matilda cheered and dug her head into her dads neck.
โhey tills!โ jack greeted, placing a sweet kiss on his daughters forehead.
โim sorry about the game jack.โ you spoke and gave your husband a peck on lips.
โitโs okay, we tried our best.โ he sighed, you could tell he was upset about it all.
โi need to finish dinner, could you go give her a bath?โ you ask quietly.
โof course.โ
jack carried matilda to the bathroom and turned on the bath tub. he grabbed out the basket full of tillys bath toys.
โwhich ones do you want tonight?โ jack asked as he spread them out along the ground.
she picked up her favourite ones and placed them in the bath gently, as if they had feelings.
โgood pick.โ jack smiled picking up the rest of the toys and putting them away.
once the bath was full jack placed matilda in the bath and she played in there while jack washed her.
as her daddy put shampoo into her hair she looked up at him, she easily noticed that he wasnโt as talkative as he usually was and looked like he was sad.
โdaddy?โ she questioned.
โyes tilly baby?โ
โdo you have a boo boo?โ she sat up in the bath and jack stopped massaging her scalp with conditioner.
โno honey, why do you ask?โ
โyour sad, whatโs wrong daddy?โ she frowned. โis it because you lost?โ
โyes baby.โ he sighed.
โitโs okay.โ she placed her hand on top of his hoping to turn his frown into a smile.
a smile broke out on jackโs face, โthank you. can i ask you a question?โ
she nodded gently.
โwhy do you get so upset all the time darling girl?โ he asked curiously.
tilly looked like she was about to start crying again, โi miss you daddy.โ
jacks heart swelled but also dropped, he wished that he could be there all the time for his girls.
โim always with you, in here.โ he poked her little chest gesturing to her heart. โbut baby, you need to stop getting so upset, itโs really hard on mummy, she feels bad when she canโt make you feel better.โ
โdo I make mummy sad?โ
โnot sad, she just feels like a bad mummy.โ he sighed, knowing tilly most likely didnโt understand him anyway.
โsheโs not a bad mummy!โ she sort of yelled.
โsheโs not. now come on, letโs get you dry and changed and into bed gorgeous.โ
jack changed her into her pyjamas and placed her into her big girl bed pulling the blanket over her.
she closed her eyes straight away, but just was jack was about to shut the door she spoke up. โdaddy?โ
โyes?โ
โi wont cry tonight so mummy feels better.โ
โcome see me if you want me baby.โ
he left a gap in the door and made his way into the kitchen, his amazing wife had made his favourite meal, spaghetti bolognaise.
โugh it looks and smells amazing baby.โ he placed a kiss on your forehead and sat down next to you to eat.
you both dug into your food and ate up.
โim sorry you didnโt make it through to the next round.โ you spoke quietly.
โitโs okay, I want to be here more for tilly, do you know why she cries so much?โ he questioned his wife, she shared a look with him.
โno clue, I canโt get a peep out of her when sheโs crying.โ you frown.
โshe said itโs because she misses meโฆโ he sighed, he felt horrible. โi knew i would be a horrible dad.โ
โhey hey hey, no your an amazing dad, tilly loves you, she wouldnโt want any other dad in the world.โ you grabbed your husbands hand. โand I wouldnโt want anyone else to be my husband.โ
you grab your husbands hand and drag him to tillys room and open the door, she is laid in her bed peacefully, โsometimes when your on a roadie i miss you so much so i come in here and watch her sleep. she looks exactly like you jack, and she calms me.โ
jack remembered when tilly was first born, he would stay in her room for ages and watch her sleep because he was so worried something would happen to his girl.
but now, like his wife said, it was calming.
the way her little chest moved up and down as she breathed, the way she would move around every now and then and the way she would cuddle her snoopy teddy which had a devils jersey on it.
โwe made her.โ jack spoke softly.
โyeah. we did.โ she grabbed jacks hand and leaned onto his shoulder.
this moment was the only moment he ever wanted, who cared about making it to the next round when he had his two girls at home?
they were all he ever needed.

UMICH DORM

summary: the one in which jack meets you in lukeโs dorm and you are a friend with lukeโs benefits.
๐๏ธ: nothing to say just that this family has a great genetics (reminds me leclerc family too) cause god the hughes brothers are hot ๐ฅต
type: fluff เฒ
Jack Hughes strolled down the well-lit UMich dormitory hallway. His younger brother, Luke, was playing for the Michigan Wolverines hockey team, and this was Jack's first visit to see him at college. Luke had assured him that it was fine to drop by his room whenever, so without hesitation, Jack reached the door with Luke's room number.
Without much ceremony, he opened the door, unknowingly stepping into a moment that would leave an indelible mark in his memory. There, on Luke's bed, was a young woman he'd never seen before. She wore one of Luke's Michigan Wolverines hockey team hoodies, the oversized garment hanging off her frame, and nothing but panties. Her presence in Luke's room was as surprising to Jack as his presence was to her.
She spoke softly as Jack entered the room, a hint of irritation in her voice, "Who the heck are you?"
Jack offered a friendly smile, hoping to ease the tension. "I'm Jack, Luke's older brother. You must be... Luke's girlfriend?"
Y/N's laughter filled the room, a playful glint in her eyes. "Girlfriend? No way! I'm just a friend. Who the hell just walks into someone's room like that?"
Jack smiled, appreciating her candor. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to barge in like this. I thought you were, well, his girlfriend. You're wearing his hoodie."
She shrugged, her gaze still fixed on him. "Oh, this? I just borrowed it because it's comfy. Not my fault if it smells like him."
Jack's amusement only grew, and he found himself drawn to her spirited personality. He nodded, acknowledging her point. "Fair enough. I'm sorry for the intrusion. I'll see myself out."
Y/N's eyes sparkled, and she playfully quipped, "You better, Mr. Intruder."
As Jack quietly closed the door and retreated down the hallway, he couldn't help but reflect on the intriguing encounter. He knew, deep down, that he had to find a way to see her again.

Jack was sat at the bar with some of the boys, just drinking, chatting, and scrolling. After you big win the other day. Jack's phone was flooded with pictures and edits of you.
"Yo look at Jack's girl," Dawson said turning his phone to Nico.
"I still can't believe he pulled her," Nico said in disbelief shaking his head.
"Let me see that," Jack groaned taking Dawson's phone out of his hand.
Jack looked at the edit on the phone a huge blush rising to his cheeks, and an unwanted tent on his jeans.
"Aw look at Jacky he's blushing," Luke chirped at Jack patting him on the back.
"Shut up," Jack grumbled passing the phone back to Dawson.
Jack checked his phone seeing that you had texted that you would be home in about an hour. He smiled down at his phone bidding his goodbyes before racing back to the apartment.
Once he got to the place he quickly got out the wine and two glasses preparing for your arrival.
-
You got to the apartment, digging your keys of your pocket unlocking the door. You opened the door stepping inside with a smile.
"I'm home," You said calling out. You saw Jack shoot out of the hallway making his way over to you with a smile.
He pulled you into a hug, "God I missed you."
"I missed you too," You said pulling away, leaning back in to place a kiss to his lips.
You smiled pulling away but, that didn't last long, he pulled you back in kissing your much more passionately this time.
He tapped your thigh before pulling it up to wrap them around his waist, never breaking the kiss.
He walked to the bedroom placing you down on the bed, Pulling back from you, "Need you so bad, baby," He smiled pulling his shirt off before leaning back to kiss you.
He tugged at your leggings pulling them down along with your panties tossing them off to the side.
His hand slid down rubbing along your thigh.
"Stop teasing," You groaned against his lips. He smiled, pulling your shirt off and removing his pants.
"What do you need," He asked desperately wanting to give you everything you wanted and more.
"Need you inside," You practically begged out. He smiled before taking his cock in his hand pumping it a few times before sliding it against your clit.
"fuck baby, please," You moaned out desperate for him.
He lined himself up before slowly pushing himself inside you.
You both moaned out at the very missed feeling.
He slowly pulled himself back before pushing himself back inside you.
"You feel so good baby," He said before pushing himself deeper inside you. He moved his head down kissing down your neck making his way to your tits.
he grabbed at one before taking the other in his mouth.
Your eyes rolled back in pleasure at the feeling, "Don't stop," you begged.
"feel good?" He asked pulling back to kiss back up your neck.
"So good."
He continued his movements pushing deeper inside of you each time. His hand made its way down rubbing at your clit.
"You gonna cum for me baby?" He asked.
"Mhm," You moaned out at the immense pleasure.
Your legs slowly began to shake, as you reached your peak, a string of moans and curses slipping from your lips.
"Good girl," He said kissing you, continuing his movement to ride out your high. He pulled out pumping his cock, cum spurting all over your pussy.
"Fuck, such a good girl," He smiled at the sight of your covered in his cum, "And all mine."
"All your's Jack, all yours."

Intro - Zach: Hello, beautiful human! Thank you for clicking on our conversation with Y/N Y/L/Nโ we have an entire album to dissect, itโs called Teardrops thereโs a link in the description below if you havenโt heard it yet and while your down there please hit the like and leave your honest feedback in the comment section below and subscribe!
Zach: Hello, beautiful human! I am Zach Sang and that is Dan Zola and today we welcome, someone whoโs dominating the charts and the music industry right nowโ Y/N Y/L/N! (*Zach and Dan starts clapping*)
Y/N: Hello! Hi, Zach, hey Danโ itโs been a while since Iโve last been here.
Zach: I know it has been a year and a half since your first appearance in the Zach Sang Show and we missed you, dude.
Y/N: Iโve missed you guys too, you guys are the best interviewers out there.
Dan: Really?
Zach: Are we really?
Y/N: You donโt ask me dumb questions, so yeah. (*chuckles*)
Zach: Well, thank you. We have lots to discuss todayโ youโre album Teardrops being one of those topics today, weโll also be talking about your tourโ Wonderland Tour which is ongoing currently, and more personal questions to finish if you donโt mind.
Y/N: Yeah, letโs get to it.
Zach: So, Teardrops, this album is years in the making, right? Two years at least, right?
Y/N: Yeah, almost two years but a year and a half to be more specific.
Zach: Can you tell us more as to why you kept pushing it back? And why you decided that now was the perfect time to release it?
Y/N: Well, Iโve always known a year and a half ago that I would be making this album. I already have written the songs for it at the timeโ and originally I was gonna release it last year but I am a perfectionist, so I decided to push it back a little. Cause I really do value the quality of my work, so I had to.
Then a few months ago, a lot had happenedโ life happened and I was in a really dark place in my life that I had no choice but put all of it on hold which I hated doing but I needed to do it for the sake of my sanity and then at one point I decided to scrap all the songs I had on the albumโ this album was originally going to be called Angel which had songs with completely different vibes as to what I have now but I decided to archive them for now because of my circumstances.
Zach: Oh wow, so you have a completely different album you had to archive. Can I ask what pushed that decision? Why not just stick to the original plan?
Y/N: Like I said, something happened in my personal life that pushed me to do so. My song making process involves a lot of emotion for meโ I feel a lot. So whenever Iโm happy or angry or sad or heartbroken, just whenever I feel an intense emotion I just start writing.
It just flows out of me and at first they are just lyrics and I piece them together, produce the melody and beats and then they become a song. When all the drama and chaos started happening to me a few months agoโ I just kept writing. Writing and writing until I managed to make thirteen new songs.
Song writing is my way of grieving in a way and moving on from those emotions and experiencesโ so, changing the album completely was important for my grieving process in a way.
Don: Wow.
Zach: Yeah, wow! Dan just expressed everything in one wordโ wow. I donโt want to touch on that experience of yours cause i know how fresh it still is but hopefully we can touch on it a little when we dissect the songsโ but before we start with the album dissection, do you think youโll ever release the original albumโ Angel?
Y/N: (*smiles*) Uhm, as of now, no. Iโm not sure when Iโll be doing that or if Iโll be doing that. It dependsโ someday maybe.
Zach: Thatโs fineโ take all the time you need. So, letโs start talking about the album in detail. Teardrops, why that title? Why change it from Angel to Teardrops?
Y/N: I wanted to change everything from the original albumโ everything. So that meant the tracks, the title, the visuals, the concept. Everything.
I named it Teardrops because all I did while making this album was cry (*awkward laugh*). I was crying writing each song, cried when I produced each melody, cried after recordingโ it was a lot. Each song represents the tears Iโve shed in a wayโ which is why I called it Teardrops.
Zach: Thatโs amazing, what a process.
Dan: It really is.
Y/N: Thank you so much.
Zach: So, track 1โ Raindrops (an angel cried.), please introduce us to this song.
Y/N: Ok, so, Raindrops is a short intro to the album. The name Angel is a name I was called a lot byโ a person in my life and I wanted the intro to set the tone for the entire album, so that the listeners would know what they are getting into musically.
My mom used to say when I was young that the reason it would rain was because angels were crying and a couple of months ago an angel did cryโ she cried and cried and cried.
Zach: Let me just say this trackโ is heavenly. Thatโs the word that seems to enter my head when I hear it.
Y/N: Thank you and thatโs good. Thatโs the vibe I was going forโ an almost angelic sounding production, without instruments or any melody at the back just my voice and an echoโ itโs perfect.
Zach: Next we have, track 2โ Selfishโ
Y/N: Yeah, but I actually want to explain track 2 and 3 togetherโ Selfish and Reckless.
Zach: Oh, go ahead. Please.
Y/N: Track 2โ Selfish and Track 3โ Reckless weโre actually written together which is why iโll be talking about them together.
Selfish and Reckless are songs about regret and realization. The realization that you were with someone so selfish and reckless at the same timeโ itโs aboutโ (*chuckles*) when I found out about the drama, those were the two words that came into my headโ selfish and reckless then I just started writing.
They are twins almost (*laughs*) you have to listen to them one after the other to get the gist of the emotion and story I was trying to express.
Dan: I just want to say, I really love the intro to Recklessโ the music box element. Why did you choose that sound and element to add to the song?
Y/N: Thatโs a great question. I have a couple songs on this album that has a very Disney feel to it almostโ like a fairytale vibe that I really loved. I mean that is the concept I was going for, a fairytale theme. Everything about Reckless was heavily inspired by Tinkerbell, the fairly like aspect of itโ the music box at the beginning made it it come to life.
Zach: Why a fairytale concept though?
Y/N: Well, fairytales arenโt real, arenโt they? (*smirks*)
Zach: Oh? So it wasnโt real? Is that what your implying? (*Zach and Dan smirk back understanding what you were implying*)
Y/N: Thatโs the thing about fairytalesโ for little children itโs real up until it isnโt anymore. Itโs the same for me. (*smiles*)
Zach: Are we still talking about fairytales? (*laughs*)
Y/N: We are! We are.
Zach: Ok. The next song, track 4โ Dangerous. What can you tell us about that?
Y/N: Itโs one of my favorites. One of the fairytale-like songs that I was talking about. Itโs a ballad, the melody reminds me of those Disney songs that would play when the Princess and the Prince are dancing but in contrast to that the lyrics are very sad.
Zach: What is it about?
Y/N: Zach seriously (*chuckles*) everyone knows what it is about.
Zach: (*laughing*) Moving on to track 5โ Safety Net ft Ty Dolla $ignโ your first feature in this album and by the way, let me just say that this is my favorite track.
Y/N: Thank you, I actually contacted Ty and asked him to be in it because I felt that his voice and style matched the song so wellโ and yeah, Safety Net is about realizing later into a relationship that no one is there to catch you at the bottomโ that there was no safety net to begin with and you have no other choice but to continue falling.
Dan: Weโve all been there.
Y/N: Weโve all been there. (*nods in agreement*)
Zach: Now onto track 6โ Leave Me Lonely.
Y/N: This track is also one of my favorites and I feel like Iโve been saying that a lot (*laughs*) anyway, this song is about asking to be left alone. Itโs preferring to be left lonely rather than staying in a relationship that is no good for you.
This song is actually so much fun to sing. Vocally itโs the most unique Iโve ever done.
Zach: It kinda has a James Bond vibe, I donโt know why it feels like that but it does.
Y/N: Thatโs such a complementโ James Bond vibe! Thatโs great. Thank you.
Dan: Track 7โ Good in Goodbye. This is one of your more upbeat songs in this album. Itโs really fun, with the wording in the chorus.
Zach: Yeah, itโs such a catchy chorus, dude and very clever with the play-on words.
Y/N: I know. Itโs such a fun song to sing, honestlyโ the chorus I am very proud of. I just love how it all turned out honestly.
Zach: Now for track 8โ Wonderland which you named your Tour after. Why this song?
Y/N: Again, the entire concept of this era is fairytale. Wonderland is an nod to Alice in Wonderland which I love and I thought It would be an appropriate title for my Tourโ to be able to name that event Wonderland was the perfect choice.
The song is about falling into a relationship the same way Alice fell into the rabbit holeโ the unexpectedness, the craziness, and uncertainty of it all. My previous relationship is just like Wonderlandโ it was new and exciting but it was also risky and frighteningโ it was all over the place.
Zach: We are halfway into your album. Track 9โ Watch.
Dan: This song made me emotional out of all of them.
Y/N: Did it really?
Dan: (*nods*)
Y/N: Well, Watch is one of those songs that talks about the physical feeling of a heartbreak. The turmoil and anguish you feel. In this song I described it as a burning sensation which some might relate to and some might notโ it depends it guess.
Zach: Ok, how about track 10โ My Tears Ricochet which is such an interesting title by the way.
Y/N: Oohh, this one is tricky. This song can actually be interpreted in a lot of waysโ everyone can have their own interpretation of this song which is the fun aspect of song writing. For me this song is about how the pain inflicted on me affects the person as well, how the tears I shed ricochet backโ somewhat like karma in a way.
Zach: This song is deep. Probably the most versatile album youโve ever put out to be honest.
Y/N: Thank you so much for saying that. That means a lot to me.
Dan: Now on to, Track 11โ Consequences.
Zach: Another tear jerking songโ well, they all are.
Y/N: (*chuckles*) Thatโs true. Consequences is just me listing down all the consequences I had to deal with for loving someone who embarrassed and hurt me. (*shrugs*)
Dan: I love how this song, with the meaning and the message you are trying to put out and then transitioning to the next track which is Track 12โ The 1. Just the different emotions youโve put into this.
Zach: Yeah, cause The 1 is almost a bittersweet song. Which is a complete opposite of the previous songs.
Y/N: This album is basically me going through the five stages of grief. Some people listening to the album might say โOh sheโs talking shit about her ex but then the next song is about her crying about him.โ Or โShe wrote a song about hating her ex but has a song about missing him.โโ Thatโs the point.
You donโt just move on from someone. You donโt. Especially after a long relationship, it is gonna be hard to let go and I understand thatโ Iโve made peace with that. I understand that I have to go through all the stages to get to the point where I am finally at peace.
Itโs not easy. Iโm still at that processโ yes, I may sing about missing and crying about a past lover but also singing another song about hating his gutsโ thatโs the process. Iโm grieving, Iโm moving onโ and The 1 is one one of those songs where I just reminisce. Itโs about the possibilities that could have happened if everything didnโt come crashing down like it did.
Zach: I keep forgetting how young you are at how mature you speak. You carry yourself with so much grace and dignityโ itโs honestly so admirable.
Y/N: Thank you, Zach but seriously stop it before I cry.
Zach: (*laughs*) Ok, finally the last song in the album. Track 13โ Red.
Y/N: Red is the final trackโ I use colors to express and relate different feelings Iโve felt through my last relationship and yeahโ Thatโs Teardrops! Iโm extremely proud of it and happy with the feedback.
Zach: You should be, this is a masterpiece! One of the many achievements youโve accomplished just in the last few monthsโ one of them also being your tour which are sold out in all the cities.
Dan: Weโve got tickets for tomorrow by the way.
Y/N: Yay! Thatโs amazing! But yeah Iโm extremely grateful for the love I have been receiving lately. My fans are extremely supportive and being able to perform for them every night is the best feeling in the world.
Zach: The opening night was at Cincinnati, right?
Y/N: It was yeah! Such a great opener as well, the response and the energy in the stadium was out of this worldโ Iโd never forget it.
Dan: Along with your performance, the presence of Bengalsโ Quarterback Joe Burrow also caused chaos. How did that happen?
Zach: Yeah, everyone wants to know, how long has this been going on?
Y/N: (*laughs while shaking your head*) Iโve met him just the day before the show actually, so not that long ago. The NFL invited me to sing the National Anthem the day before at a game and when the Bengalsโ wonโ they invited my team an I to the after party. I was pretty hesitant on going but my best friend dragged me to it (*laughs*)
Obviously I knew who he was and surprisingly he knew who I was and when he approached me, he told me he was a fanโ he congratulated me on performing which shocked me considering it was their win we were celebrating that night, but yeah. We talked and he mentioned that he tried to get tickets to my show but didnโt succeed in doing so.
So I offered him a ticket, I donโt know what urged me to do so but he hesitantly accepted and thatโs how he ended up thereโ we became friends.
Zach: So you mean to tell me, that you had extra tickets laying around?! (*jokes*)
Y/N: I always have one extra ticket, just in case. (*shrugs*)
Dan: You attended their game a few weeks ago as well, didnโt you?
Y/N: Yeah, I think that was Joeโs way of repaying me back for the ticketsโ our schedule coincided and he asked me if I wanted to go and I didnโt have anything else better to do at New Jersey so I accepted.
Zach: Fans speculate that you two are dating because of your somewhat public interaction that day.
Y/N: No. Joe and I are good friends. We are both focused on our own careers and I donโt think Iโm ready to be in another relationship of any kind at the moment. (*smiles sadly*)
Zach: And thatโs understandable, I hope this puts the rumors to rest. Thank you for stopping by, Y/N.
Y/N: It wonโt but thank you anywayโ also thank you for inviting me.
Dan: We love having you here.
Zach: Good luck on the show tomorrow. We will see you!
Y/N: Iโll see you tomorrow, guys!

๐๐๐ง1: this interview is Godsent, everything was just perfect.
๐๐๐ง2: thank you to Zach and Dan for the amazing content as always.
๐๐๐ง3: An hour long interview of Y/N talking about her album? Yes please
โณ ๐ก๐๐ญ๐๐ซ1: An hour long interview of Y/N talking about her trash of an album as she continues to shit on Jack? Bitch please.
โณ ๐๐๐ง4: Translation: I watched the entire 1 hour interview where Y/N talks about the songs she wrote about her cheating ex which she never ones name dropsโฆ but if the shoe fits ig ๐คทโโ๏ธ
โณ ๐๐๐ง5: OH SHIT HAHQHAHHAHQHQHAHA
๐๐๐ง6: Zach is right. Y/N handles herself with so much grace and dignity it is truly inspiring. She continued with her life and let her work speak for her. Sheโs stronger than me fr cause if my boyfriend of 3 years cheats on me and gets caught for the entire world to see I would be in jail rn.
๐๐๐ง7: itโs the fact that she had an completely different album called ANGEL and decided to scrap it all when Jackโs cheating scandal happened hurts my heart.
โณ ๐๐๐ง8: Iโm crying in the club rn. Angel is probably the complete opposite of Teardrops. It probably was about how in love she was with Jack.
โณ ๐๐๐ง9: MY HEART HURTS FOR HER CAUSE ANGEL TO TEARDROPS WITH THE INTRO BEING RAINDROPS (AN ANGEL CRIED)!! Sheโs a genius but itโs so sad.
โณ ๐๐๐ง10: just imagine how hurt she must have been to realize that she would never get to release those songs.
โณ ๐๐๐ง11: When they asked her if sheโll ever release Angel she said maybe but the pain in her eyes when she was thinking about it says otherwise.
โณ ๐๐๐ง12: Iโm sorry Iโm a new fan and Iโm not sure why people keep emphasizing on the name Angel? Like, what does it represent? And why is it so important?
โณ ๐๐๐ง13: Itโs alright ๐ Angel is what Y/Nโs ex boyfriend Jack called her. He cheated on her after 3 years of being together hence her having an album called Angel is so shocking cause we are assuming itโs about her love for Jack which we will never get to hear by the looks of it.
โณ ๐๐๐ง14: And since Jack plays for the New Jersey Devils, Y/N would call him the Devil and Y/N the Angel.
โณ ๐๐๐ง12: Thank you so much for explaining. That is so sad.
๐๐๐ง15: Raindrops (an angel cried) hits harder now knowing what the album was called before ๐ญ
๐๐๐ง16: I admire her so much. She said she made peace with the fact that she needed to go through the five stages of grief. She accepted that she was gonna feel all those emotions just so that she could move on.
๐๐๐ง17: โfairytales arenโt real, arenโt they?โ OOOHH GIRL HER SMIRK AFTER SHE SAID THAT๐
โณ ๐๐๐ง18: โfor little children fairytales are real until they arenโt anymore.โ Put that on a shirt.
๐๐๐ง19: her explanation of Safety Net pained me, I related to that song the most.
โณ ๐๐๐ง20: realizing that there wasnโt a Safety Net to catch you the entire time ๐ฅฒ
๐๐๐ง21: sheโs beauty and brains, sheโs so intellectual.
๐๐๐ง22: she deserves all the love in the world ๐ฅน๐ค
๐๐๐ง23: look how happy she looked talking about Joe ๐ญ
โณ ๐๐๐ง24: the immediate switch up was so cute. She literally lit up.
๐๐๐ง25: I know she just denied them dating but I really do feel that there is something there.
โณ ๐๐๐ง26: IK!! CALL ME CRAZY BUT SHE EITHER WANTS TO KEEP IT A SECRET OR THEY HAVE FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER!
โณ ๐๐๐ง27: I understand the excitement but please letโs respect both their privacy. Joe and Y/N are both private people so IF they are dating and want to keep it quiet then letโs please respect that. However, I donโt think they are dating tho, not yet anyway. Y/N is still in the process of moving on, she said sheโs not ready for a relationship. Letโs respect that please. ๐ค
โณ ๐๐๐ง28: Couldnโt have said it any better ๐๐ค
๐๐๐ง29: get you a friend who would give you tickets to their shows/games ๐ซ
๐๐๐ง30: Joe congratulated Y/N for singing the National Anthem at his own after party ๐ฉ can he get anymore perfect.
๐๐๐ง31: Y/N hates New Jersey. You canโt convince me otherwise. Joe gave her tickets to his game and she took it as a way to get out.
โณ ๐๐๐ง32: heโs hot for that.
โณ ๐๐๐ง33: I donโt blame her but I donโt think sheโll hate it forever. She just need time.
๐๐๐ง34: friends donโt look at friends the way they were looking at each other.
โณ ๐๐๐ง35: they probably do like each other but give it time. I actually want them to last and she needs to heal first before doing so.
๐๐๐ง36: Iโm so ready for her show even more now ๐
Cincinnati, Ohio
Joe: Hello, hello.
Reporter: Did you have a good time at practice today, Joe?
Joe: Uhm, itโs practice. Itโs the same every seasonโ it was good. Exhausting but good.
Reporter: You donโt train during off season?
Joe: Nah, Iโm a lazy guy, sit at home all day. (*smiles*)
Reporter: Whatโs your favorite thing to do every year, Joe?
Joe: Just relax. Sit on my couch watch YouTube videos, play video games thatโs my favorite thing to do.
Reporter: Did you watch the Quarterback thing, Joe?
Joe: I did not.
Reporter: Do you plan to?
Joe: Uhm, maybe one day. Probably not though.
Reporter: What why?
Joe: Would you watch a documentary about Hobson? (*grinning as he nodded his head at the reporter*)
Reporters: (*laughs*)
Reporter: Joe, one of your strengths is your ability to compartmentalize, is your focus right there?
Joe: Yeah. Iโm able to hyper focus on a lot of different things at different times and when itโs time for one, I can completely focus on that and forget about everything else.
Reporter: Were you asked to be in season two of The Quarterback?
Joe: Yeah I was. Maybe one yearโ this year Iโm not, uhm but weโll see. I would like to do it maybe a couple of years down the road but I donโt think now is the right time.
Reporter: Joe, are there any personal goals youโve set for yourself?
Joe: You always have personal goals, Iโve been thinking about goals a lot lately and I think where my mindset is these days is just improving everyday. The point Iโm at nowโ Iโm one of the best in the world and if I just continue to improve everyday Iโm gonna help myself a lot more.
Reporter: What music do you listen to, Joe?
Joe: I๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝm, uh, kind of all over the place. Iโll listen to some indie, I listen to some hip hop, some pop. I listen to just about anything but countryโ Iโm not a country guy. (*smiles*)
Reporter: A lot of Y/N Y/L/N then?
Joe: (*laughs while nodding his head*) Yeah, Iโm a fan of hers.
Reporter: You were seen at her concert here at PayCor and she was at the game against the Jets recentlyโ you two seem close.
Joe: Sheโs a good friend. I met her after the game against the Raidersโ we had a good conversation. I joked about having a hard time buying tickets for her show and she offered to give me an extra ticket. Yeah, we became friends after that. I invited her to the game against the Jets cause our schedules aligned and yeah. Sheโs great.
Reporter: Gave her flowers recently, Joe? (*grins*)
Joe: (*shrugging his shoulders laughing*) Flowers? I donโt know? You tell me? Did I?
Reporter: I think you did.
Joe: Sheโs an amazing human being. So maybe I did. (*shrugs again*)
Reporter: Last question, Joe. How are you feeling that there is a possibility that youโll be the highest paid NFL player is history?
Joe: That is not guaranteed yet as of the moment, so I donโt really feel anything about itโ sure Iโm flattered to be considered a valuable player but as of now itโs only a possibility. Ones it actually happens Iโll get back to you. (*chuckles*)
Reporters: Thank you so much, Joe.
Joe: Thank you.

*****
one - two months
โJack, are you sure about this?โ Ashley asks, fiddling with the silver rings on her fingers.ย
โWhy wouldnโt I be?โ He responds confidently, sparing a look at her from the drivers seat beforeย turning his eyes back on the road. โEveryoneโs expecting you.โ
โYou told them?โ
โThat my girlfriend was coming with me to a New Yearโs party? Of course.โ He squeezes her thigh lightly. โTheyโre excited to meet you. And not while weโre working.โ
โIโm excited to meet them too.โ
โYou sure?โ He teases lightly. โYouโve been quiet all afternoon.โ
โYeah, yeah. Sorry.โ
โNothing to be sorry about.โ They stop at a red light, and he leans over to kiss her cheek. โAsh, baby, theyโre gonna love you.โ
โBut you donโt know that,โ she protests softly.ย
โI do, actually. Because everyone loves you.โ
She rolls her eyes. โYou canโt promise me that everyoneโs gonna even like me.โ
He shrugs. โIโll prove you wrong. Youโll see.โ He tugs at her gold sweater. โIs this new?โ
โYeah. Seems fitting for the occasion. Sparkles equals New Years, right?โ
โI like it a lot.โ
โI know what youโre doing,โ she deadpans.ย
He smirks. โAnd what might that be?โ
โDistracting me.โ
โMaybe so. Youโre so smart, Miss Columbia Grad.โ
โJack,โ she whines, making him laugh.ย
He picks up her hand and kisses the back of it. โTrust me, okay? Itโll be great. And Iโll be with you all night.โ
Ashley swallows, before forcing herself to nod.ย
The thing is, after two months of dating officially (sheโs not counting the month beforehand when there wasnโt a label on things even though there shouldโve been), there are still important parts of each otherโs lives they have yet to experience together. Sheโs gone to a few of his games, but has never met any of his teammates (except for Luke, but he doesnโt count), choosing to meet Jack back at his place after instead of waiting for him at the rink. She also doesnโt count that one Devils game she had to fill in for, which is how she met Jack in the first place. The few times heโs invited her along when he does go out with them, sheโs been busy with other things.ย
New Yearโs is kinda a big time to be meeting new people. People that mean a lot to Jack. But that could just also be all in Ashleyโs head. Sheโs never really done this before. The last serious boyfriend she had was in high school where everyone knew each other. There was no need for introductions.ย
Jack squeezes her hand. โThank you.โย
โFor?โย
โComing with me to this. Taking off work early. I appreciate it a lot.โย
She shrugs casually. โItโs about time, right?โ She pointedly ignores the look he shoots her, because she doesnโt want him to know how nervous she really is.
Before they know it, Jackโs pulled into the driveway of the Toffolis and her hands start sweating again. She gathers the flowers on her lap and the wine bag as Jack rounds the car and opens the door for her. He grabs the bag, presses a kiss atop her head and hand in hand, they walk to the front door. She lets Jack take the lead as he just walks in. They walk into the kitchen area, as Cat pulls her into a hug and thanks them graciously for the flowers and wine.
It turns out that Ashley really does have nothing to worry about. Getting thrown into a whirlwind of introductions and new names is a lot, but she doesnโt mind. A wave of comfort crashes over her as Luke practically hauls her into a hug.ย
She finds herself besides Nico after he hands her a glass of wine. โYouโre a journalist, right?โ He asks.
โI am.โ
โDo you ever watch Jackโs media interviews?โ
Ashley giggles. โI do once in awhile. Trust me, I have my thoughts. I also met him for the first time from that. And you, technically.โ
โRight, right. Will we ever see you in the locker room again?โ
โProbably not. I was just filling in for Danny. On the rare chance I do sports, itโs usually for the Jets. Besides, better to watch and support you all without any stake professionally.โ
โWhat do you usually report on?โ Nico asks with genuine curiosity.ย
She perks up, like anytime she gets to talk about her job. As she talks, using her hands animatedly despite one of them holding a drink, Jack looks on from a distance with a lovesick look in his eyes.
โShe is way too cool for you,โ Dawson says, fixing his cap.
Jack rolls his eyes. โShut up.โ But Jack knows his teammateโs right.
Jackโs not clingy, perse, but itโs hard for him to watch Ashley justโฆbe and not be touching a part of her. Even if itโs just sliding up against her so her body is pressed alongside his, he just wants to be near her all the time.ย
(Quinn once sent some random thing he found on Instagram about love languages a few years back and Jack had remembered absolutely roasting him. But maybe he had a point)
โSo,โ Nicole starts, refilling both their glasses up with champagne a bit later in the evening. โWhy Jack?โ
Ashley snorts. โYour guess is as good as mine.โ From beside his girlfriend, Jesper barks out a laugh and from next to Ashley, Jack pouts. Ashley laughs, leaning into Jackโs side. โIโm kidding. Mostly. I was hesitant at first though.โ
โOh, yeah. He told me about this,โ Jesper says. โSaid he chased you down the hall after post-game media and asked you out?โ
โSounds about right.โ
โAnd you said yes to that?โ Jesper asks. Jack whacks his teammate in the stomach.ย
โNot right away,โ Ashley admits. โHe gave me his number and told me to text him if I was interested. And I ended up being interested.โ
โLucky for him,โ Nicole chuckles.ย
Jack squeezes Ashleyโs waist fondly. โLucky for me.โ
She listens on in interest as Nicole talks about how she and Jesper got together. Somewhere throughout the conversation, she canโt help but let her mind drift. Theyโve been together for years now, been living together for a bit and are looking to move into a house. She literally moved away from Sweden full-time for him.ย
Ashley swallows as Jack asks about how their house search is going. Thereโs a very little chance that Jack will be leaving Jersey anytime within the next half decade. But her mother warned her that his career could take him places in the future unexpectedly.ย
And in a way, so could Ashleyโs. But itโs not as easy.ย
She scolds herself for even thinking this far. Theyโve been dating for literally two months. Thatโs nothing in the grand scheme of things. Theyโre celebrating entering the new year today, but she has no idea if theyโll even be together for all of it.
Sheโs hoping they are. God, she really fucking hopes so. But she could hope until the end of the world and have it fall short. She smoothes her sweater out with her suddenly-clammy hands, chugging the whole glass of champagne before putting the flute down on a nearby table. She excuses herself politely to use the bathroom, which she does, before getting some air.ย
She definitely looks a bit crazy outside on the Toffoliโs porch in the dead of winter, but she doesnโt mind the biting edge of cold. Itโs grounding her, actually.ย
โWas looking for you.โ
Ashley doesnโt even look at Jack, humming as she hears him walking out to stand next to her. โDid my sparkle sweater give me away?โ
โNo, Neeks did, actually. Said he saw you walking out.โ She finally looks at him with his eyebrows furrowed. โYouโre not cold?โ
โDonโt even think about offering me your jacket,โ she warns. โI know youโre only wearing a t-shirt underneath.โ
โThen come back inside so we both donโt die.โ
โIn a minute,โ she promises.ย
He huffs, rubbing his hands up and down her arms to try and generate some heat. โEverything good?โ
โYeah, yeah.โ Just, you know, minorly freaking out at her boyfriendโs teammateโs place about the fact that she might be falling in love with him even though it hasnโt been that long and what a future could look like for them and how that future could fall apart in an instant.
So regular New Yearโs Eve thoughts.
โUnlike you, I donโt have a college degree, much less two,โ Jack grins. โI canโt read minds.โ
โAnd you think I can?โ She jokes back weakly. He just chuckles. She continues. โYour friends are nice. I like them a lot.โ
He lights up anytime someone he loves gets brought up in conversation. โYeah, theyโre cool. They like you too.โ
โThatโs good,โ she says softly.ย
He taps her forehead with his pointer finger. โCountdownโs soon. Come back inside?โ He laces their fingers together.ย
โYou gonna kiss me at midnight?โ
โThink so.โ
โYou only think so?โ
Jack smirks, kissing her deeply. โShut up.โ
Ashley is absolutely floored.
two - one year and one month
Camโs wedding crept up on her.ย
Of course, Ashley knew it was coming, but still. Though she was surprised when Jack told her that he was free of games on that particular early November weekend somehow, only having to miss an optional practice and that he would notify the coaching staff far in advance.ย
Itโs not the act of bringing Jack that sheโs nervous about. Cam and Amanda, his fiance, came into the city a few months ago and they all grabbed lunch before heading to a game at The Rock that night. Sheโll never forget how ultimately โtraitor-like to the Bruinsโ Cam felt, Ashley and Amanda finding it hilarious. They both had a good time though, and thatโs all that matters, and Cam, who has always looked out for her even before she had ever asked, subtly gave his approval.ย
(โIโll admit my assumptions about him were wrong,โ Cam had said. โHeโs awesome, and he really cares about you. If heโs the one, I wonโt be mad about it. Heโs very lucky.โ)
Itโs more of a particular person thatโs going to be at the wedding.ย
Weirdly, when she and Alex broke up way back when, one of the thoughts that circled her mind months after was exactly this. If and when the day of Camโs wedding came, and they were both still close to him, theyโd both be there. And here they are.ย
Sheโs over him โ obviously, considering sheโs in a happy, long-term relationship and itโs been four years โ but how do you prepare to see your ex-boyfriend when the last time you saw him you had just broken up and you were in tears?
She and Jack drive up to Cape Cod early the day of the wedding and she feels a bit bad that heโs driving after he had a game last night and has one in just two days but he doesnโt mind, happy to be driving as long as sheโs in the passenger seat next to him. Theyโre switching off anyways, and she had driven the first half. Cam and Amanda rented out a bunch of rooms at a few inns for their guests so her and Jack will get ready there before heading to the venue.ย
From a quick rundown Cam gave her a month ago when they caught up over the phone, sheโll at least be familiar with a good amount of people at the wedding. Sheโs excited to see them all again and catch up, those memories that were bittersweet at some point, all water under the bridge so many years later.ย
Itโs what you get for dating within a friend group. Ultimately, at some point, sides are chosen.
At the end of the day, itโs Cam, someone who has always been there for her since they were 16, even when she didnโt necessarily do the same. Heโs given his friendship selflessly to her for over a decade. The least she can do is come to his wedding to celebrate.ย
And she has Jack with her. Nothing can go wrong with Jack by her side.ย
โYou okay?โ Jackโs voice breaks her out of her thoughts as he squeezes her thigh, sneaking a look before focusing back on the road. โYouโre quiet. Youโre rarely quiet in the car.โ
โItโs a 5 hour drive, Jack.โ
โIโve been playing country nonstop for the last half an hour and you havenโt chirped me once.โ She starts playing with his fingers and his eyebrows furrow. โAlright. Whatโs going on, baby? What are you thinking about?โ
โYou know what Iโm thinking about.โ She shoots back with no malice.ย
He sighs, linking their hands together and bringing them up to his lips to kiss her knuckles. โYeah. I got you though. Iโll be with you the whole day.โ
โItโs dumb, really. Four years. And I havenโt thought about him in a long time.โ
He shrugs. โHe was your first heartbreak, and you havenโt seen him since. This is gonna be some sort of closure, even if itโs four years later.โ
โYou seem awfully cool about this, considering, you know, your current girlfriend is lowkey freaking out about seeing her ex again.โ
โIโm not worried,โ he replies easily. โYou need this closure. I wasnโt smart like you back then and actually saw my exes probably way sooner than I shouldโve. Besides, Iโm the one on your arm now. Not him. Iโm not pressed.โ
She scoffs at yet another country song playing and skips it, snorting when โSuburban Legendsโ by Taylor Swift comes on. How fitting. โIโm definitely hyping it up in my head. Itโs nothing. And Cam told me that he purposefully put us at separate tables, in case Alex says some questionable shit while drunk.โ
โNo worries about you saying anything questionable?โ
โCompared to Alex? No way.โ He snorts, amused. But he knows enough about his girlfriendโs ex-boyfriend to not push it. โI wonder if heโs bringing someone. God, I hope he is.โ
โWhy? Donโt want to rub it in his face that youโre happy and in love?โ
โThatโs mean,โ she says airily. โNo. I hope heโs bringing someone because I want to know what kind of girl can tolerate his ass. I did, but I was 20 and stupid. I wanna see what kind of girl can tolerate him at 26.โ
โDoes he know Iโm coming?โ
โCam?โ
He snorts. โNo. Alex.โ
โWho knows? Even if he does, he probably doesnโt care and isnโt overthinking it like I am.โ
โI think youโd be surprised,โ she looks at him, confused and he bites his lip. โEven if they play it off, guys are affected by that stuff more than youโd think.โ
โWhat is there to be affected by?โ
โYou,โ Jack says simply. โNot that Iโm biased or anything, but you leave quite an impact on everyone you meet. And that lucky ass got to date you. As someone who also has had that privilege, I can relate a bit.โ
Ashley chuckles before squeezing his hand. โThanks for coming with me. I know your schedule is really busy with the season and everything-โ
โYou donโt need to thank me. Isnโt half of having a significant other just bringing them as plus ones to weddings?โ
โFair.โ She leans her head on his shoulder momentarily as he pushes the sunglasses on top of his head to his face. โThank you, though. I feel bad that youโre missing practice.โ
He snorts. โDonโt.โ
โThey didnโt give you a hard time?โ
โNot really. Itโs an optional, anyways. Nico just told us to have fun and I think Lindy has a soft spot for you somehow. Iโm excited. I like Cam. And Iโm happy to be here with you.โ He smirks, adding. โCome on, baby. Did you think I was gonna leave you to dry when your ex is gonna be there?โ
โYou donโt know anybody at the wedding. And Cam grew up in a hockey-loving family from Boston. Thereโs bound to be people who recognize you.โ
โSo Iโm the arm candy for the night. That works perfectly for me.โย
They arrive at the inn just past 1, and decide to stop by a nearby cafe to grab a quick bite. Jack decides to take a short nap before they have to start getting ready and head out while she scrolls on her phone and plays with his hair since his head is on her lap. Occasionally she finds herself staring outside the window at the water with a smile. Even if not in the summer, the Cape is beautiful.
Once it hits 4:15, she figures that she should start getting ready, but she canโt move without disturbing Jack since heโs still sleeping soundly on her lap. She gently whispers his name and presses a few kisses on his forehead as his breathing changes, groaning a bit as he stretches and opens his eyes.ย
โTime to go?โ
โIn like, an hour. I need to start getting ready.โ
He hums, puckering his lips and she takes the hint, kissing him soundly twice before ushering him off her lap. She lays out the few makeup products she has, moisturizing her face before putting light foundation and concealer on. As always, she focuses more attention on her eyeshadow, deciding to add a bit of gold glitter to compliment her pink dress. She clips a matching pink bow in, liking the way it blends with the natural brown of her hair. She decides to save the lipstick for right before they leave and turns to Jack, whoโs buttoning his shirt.ย
โWhat do you think?โ He looks up as heโs buttoning his cuffs. โToo much glitter?โ She asks.
โNever too much glitter. You look beautiful.โ
She looks at his blazer and tie that heโs laid out on the bed, looking at him with minor confusion. โSince when do you own that tie?โ
โSince last week when I bought it.โ
She looks at where her dress is hanging. โIt matches my dress.โ
โYes it does.โ
She looks towards him as he tucks his shirt in, a sudden wave of love rushing through her heart. โI love you.โ
He looks up and immediately walks over to her, placing a hand on her waist and kissing her. โI love you too.โ
She puts on her dress quickly, smiling when she doesnโt even have to ask Jack as he comes over to help her zip it up, pressing a chaste kiss on her shoulder. His phone ringing interrupts and she brushes her hair before she puts on her accessories.ย
โSup Quinny?โ
Quinnโs voice crackles through Jackโs phone. โWhere the fuck are you going all dressed up on a Saturday? I know for a fact you donโt have a game today, considering Luke just sent a snap of him playing Chel with Dawson 10 minutes ago.โ
โIโm in the Cape, asshole. One of Ashโs friends is getting married.โ
She peeks into the view of the camera and waves after putting in one earring. โHi Quinn!โ
โOh! Hey Ash. You look beautiful.โ
She beams. โThank you!โ
Jack scoffs. โIโm here too.โ
Ashley leaves the brothers to catch up as she starts gathering her things and puts on her lip tint before sitting at the edge of the bed since they still have 15 minutes left before they have to head out and sheโs mostly all ready to go. She chimes in once in awhile, always happy to talk to Quinn as Jack shrugs on his suit jacket, ties his matching pink tie and clasps on his watch.
โLooking good, you two.โ Quinn says as they both stand in front of the phone. โMatching tie, eh? Good move, Jacky.โ
โWe look good enough to make an ex jealous?โ
She just rolls her eyes as Quinnโs eyes lights up, immediately catching on. โAbsolutely.โ
โDonโt encourage him, Quinn.โ
Quinn just laughs and bids them farewell as Jack smooths down his tie. She puts on her jacket and grabs her boots and slips them on. As sheโs about to bend down and tie them, Jack ushers her to sit on the bed and kneels down. He does it too quickly for her to dwell too much on how much she loves him, but he probably knows, if him gently rubbing his thumb over her ankle and the kiss on the inside of her knee tell her anything.ย
Itโs only been a little over a year, but she really does think she could spend the rest of her life with him.
They end up running into Nick in the lobby and even though itโs beenโฆfour years since sheโs seen him, she corrals him into a tight hug. She introduces Jack and Nick introduces Melanie, his fiancee. The only indication from Nick that he knows who Jack is is a subtle comment thatโs delivered in a way thatโs so Nick it makes her heart ache โ โJack Hughes. Only Ash would show up after almost five years in the flesh with a professional athlete at a wedding where her ex is gonna be at. Always gotta do some out of pocket shit.โ โ and makes Jack laugh as she slaps him.
The four of them walk the short seven minute walk to the venue together, with Ashley and Nick mostly leading the conversation. She canโt remember where they left their tentative friendship in their late teens and early twenties when the world was shut down and the future looked the most uncertain it had been. Even though they donโt immediately pick up where they left off, years of rust littered in their interactions and memories, sheโs extremely happy to see that heโs doing well.ย
(Jackโs just happy to be there, holding his girlfriendโs hand as she leads the conversation. Itโs nice not having to lead for once. Thereโs not many situations where heโs the one tagging along)ย
As they enter the ceremony space, Ashley immediately sees plenty of other people she recognizes. She chuckles to herself as she realizes many of the guys are from the soccer team. Itโs touching to know they still keep in touch. Logan, one of said guys, greets Nick goodheartedly, before wrangling her into a hug. As pleasantries are exchanged and people are introduced, she does feel a bit out of place. But thatโs natural, reconnecting with people after so long that clearly still hang out with each other and only hear about her through sporadic updates through Cam when they ask.ย
Sides were chosen, even if not intentionally. Ashleyโs learned to be okay with that. Even if she thinks itโs unfair that Alex got to keep a lot of their mutual friends and she didnโt.
As everyone settles down in their seats, she squeezes Jackโs hand, opening her mouth to apologize forโฆsomething. Not preparing him in giving the whole lore of how she knows all these people? How the only reason she knows the sport of soccer is so well is because of Alex? Not explaining clearly the mixed feelings of her coming to the Cape this weekend?ย
But Jackโs enraptured in a conversation with Logan, and she smiles. Of course. Logan played hockey back in high school as well.ย
(Out of instinct, Jack does squeeze her hand back though, even placing them in his lap even though heโs not looking in her direction at all)
When Alex comes into view, a pretty redheadโs hand around the crook of his elbow, Ashley starts sweating. Thank goodness she has deodorant in her bag. Jack, whoโs still talking to Logan, notices, and sheโs about to apologize for her clammy hands as he sends her a confused look but the nearby exclamations of Alexโs name answers his question. He just presses two kisses to her temple.
Logan, to his credit, grimaces. โYou gonna be good, Ash?โ
She waves his kindness away. โOf course. Itโs been so long. And itโs Camโs day.โ
And it is Camโs day, as everyone falls silent watching both sets of parents and the groomsmen and bridesmaids walk down โ she chuckles when she sees Sean walking down, forgetting that he and Cam got closer in college even after going to the same high school โ before grinning as Amanda walks down in her beautiful A-line, ball gown of a wedding dress. Ashley wipes a tear away watching Cam do the same and she thinks if only 16 year old them could see themselves now.ย
(She has a moment when she looks at Jack where her stomach flips, thinking of the day they could be the ones at the altar. She quickly focuses her attention back to the front)
Cam and Amanda are pronounced husband and wife and she cheers as he dips her and kisses her, beaming and tearing up and laughing as she hears Nick wolf-whistle. People start dispersing, the large heated patio hosting a cocktail hour before the doors to the reception hall open back up again.
While sheโs sipping on a glass of wine, she hears a familiar voice calling her name and she beams, carefully making sure she doesnโt spill any wine on Seanโs tuxedo as he towers over her and hugs her tightly. He introduces himself to Jack and she watches in slight amusement as they talk.ย
Sean and her never really were friends, more friends by association. He was more in the popular crowd in the school that Ashley herself was never inclined to push her way through. Her and Sean shared plenty of classes together though, and always got along when forced to work together. And in another life, sometimes Ashley thinks that she wouldโve had a crush on the blonde boy.ย
Instead, she dated one of his teammates. And, well, that turned out the way it did.
(Ashley rolls her eyes when Sean makes a comment about how it โmakes complete sense that youโre the one who ended up dating a professional athleteโ because sure, Sean. Sure.)
Jack may be among many Massachusetts natives who live and die for the Bruins and are not hesitant in chirping him within 5 minutes of meeting him, but he smiles genuinely as his hand instinctively finds a way on her lower back. After dating Ashley for over a year, heโs used to the good-intentioned bluntness of New Englanders. She only starts rolling her eyes when high school gets brought up and stories about her start piling up. In contrast, Jack loves this and just eggs them on, eager to hear the stories.ย
With a quick glance at the seating chart when theyโre all starting to filter back into the reception hall, she finds that the high school crowd is split between two tables, and that Cam kept to his word and put her and Alex at different ones. The tables next to each other, but still. She wonโt have to worry about making accidental awkward eye contact with him across her chicken. Sheโs the slightest bit surprised she hasnโt crossed direct paths with him yet. But thereโs enough people that they wouldnโt ever be forced to interact. And maybe thatโs for the best.ย
Dinner passes by without incident, Ashley squeezing both Cam and Amanda tight as they come around to toast every table as Jack gives Cam a tight bro-hug and Amanda a polite kiss on the cheek. The dance floor starts to open up, and as usual, Ashleyโs one of the first ones on, dragging Jack and practically their whole table out. She feels light on her feet and happy as she leans into Jack with a big smile. He ditches his suit jacket at the table and his pink tie is loosened and she thinks he looks so handsome. Sheโs happily tipsy enough where the curious glances and whispers from probably the entire fucking reception hall about why an NHL player is here donโt bother her. She knows heโs used to it. She doesnโt know how.
(Jack may not know everything of the lore and context behind Ashleyโs relationship with the people she knows here, but he knows her and how deeply she feels and nostalgic she can get and how that can change her perception of her own memories and how that in turn, can make her extremely self critical.ย
So this whole evening, heโs tried to make it as easy as possible, talking with her old friends and classmates โ which isnโt much of an ask, theyโre nice enough โ and just squeezing her hand or waist or kissing her temple or cheek when he feels her focus trailing off. If she talks to Alex and wants him there, heโll be right next to her. If not, heโll make himself scarce. Whatever she wants)
Ashleyโs resting at her chair while Jackโs in a casual conversation with Cam as Alex comes up behind Cam, tapping him on the shoulder. She swallows and sits up straight and Jack automatically places a gentle hand on her back. Cam and Alex exchange a few words she canโt hear before Cam turns his attention back to her and Jack feels a surge of gratitude towards Cam, who looks extremely apologetic.ย
Jack watches as she stands up and steps towards Alex with a small smile. โHey.โ
Alex blinks. โHi.โ She gives him a quick hug before stepping back next to Jack as he stands up. โAlex, this is Jack, my boyfriend. Jack, Alex.โ
โNice to meet you, man.โ Jack says with a firm, polite handshake and he doesnโt really see (or care about) Alexโs reaction before turning back to Ashley again, trying to read her. She gives him an almost imperceptible nod. Jackโs eyes flicker to Cam, who also nods behind Alex and he clears his throat. โIโm gonna get a refill. You two want anything?โ
โAll good, man.โ
โRum and coke, heavier on the coke?โ
โYou got it,โ Jack presses a quick kiss to her hair before he and Cam walk to the bar.ย
Jack waves to the bartender for a whiskey sour for himself as Cam gets a gin and tonic. They both lean against the counter and Jack sighs, watching Alex take Jackโs previous seat. โWas that a good idea? Leaving them alone?โ Because he knows her, of course, but Camโs known her longer. And he had a front row seat to her and Alexโs friendship before they got together, their relationship when they got together, and the fallout of their breakup.ย
โHonestly? I donโt know. But theyโre both 26 year old mature adults.โ Camโs eyes flit over to a redhead woman a couple seats away from the bar and waves her over. Jackโs trying to remember if heโs met her tonight
โHi Cam,โ she says lightly.ย
โHey yourself,โ he nods over in the direction of her and Alex. โYou initiate that?โ
She snorts, โOf course I did.โ She perches herself on a stool and sticks her hand out to Jack. โI donโt think weโve met yet. Iโm Francesca, but please call me Fran. Iโm Alexโs girlfriend.โ
Jack gives her a small smile. This is something. โJack. Ashleyโs boyfriend.โ
โIโm aware,โ she teases. โI grew up in Jersey and my brotherโs a huge hockey fan. Iโve been to a couple of your games throughout the years.โ
โAlways nice to meet a fan,โ He responds smoothly and genuinely. โEspecially in a room filled with Bruins fans that could honestly poison my drink at any moment and I wouldnโt be surprised.โ
โYeah, yeah. Youโre lucky there are no Rangers fans here.โ Cam waves him off as Jack and Fran laugh.ย
โWhat a way to meet someone for the first time,โ Fran says.
โWhile our exes are talking for the first time in over four years?โ Jack says and Fran and Cam both snort. โYou could say that.โ
She turns to Cam, โCam, you can go off and mingle, you know? Itโs your wedding. Jack and I will be fine here.โ
Jack opens his mouth to agree but Cam just shakes his head. โItโs fine. I need a second to breathe anyways. And also make sure this doesnโt go downhill.โ
โAshley seems like a smart girl and Alex isnโt that stupid,โ Fran says. โThey wouldnโt make a fuss at your wedding.โ
Cam sighs and Jack thinks about how thankful he is that Cam has been there for his girlfriend way before Jack even knew her. Jack then turns to Fran and asks how she and Alex met and the conversation starts there, all three of them turning to the two exes from time to time to make sure thereโs no flames or glasses being thrown.ย
Fran talks about how she and Alex met at work and laughs in amusement when Jack explains that it was the same with him and Ashley, talking about how Ashley had been filling in for a colleague for an interview and Jack practically fell in love with her the second he saw her and had to tell himself to not sound stupid in front of the pretty girl.ย
And honestly, as Jack talks to Fran, he laughs to himself a bit ironically. She reminds him a bit of Ashley. A bit too much for him personally and harsh in a different way than his girlfriend, but decent company nonetheless. So maybe he and Alex are more alike than they think.ย
Meanwhile, the conversation happening merely 20 feet away between two exes is not as casual. Not as comfortable.ย
โBeen a long time, huh?โ Alex remarks.ย
Ashley tries not to scoff. โFour years.โ
Alex curses under his breath. โYeah. How are you?โ
What a loaded question. She goes along with it. โIโm good.โ
โCam mentioned youโre in New York?โ
โI am. Moved out there about a year after college for work. Then went to grad school there.โ
โJournalist?โ
She shrugs. โMore or less. The titleโs changed a couple times throughout the years but all in that field.โ
โThatโs awesome.โ He runs a hand through his hair and it looks so familiar yet unfamiliar. โI still remember when you told me you got into BU. Seems like the path was always laid out for you, huh?โ
Sheโll have to unpack that one later. โGuess so. How about you? I heard you were in Portland. Real estate, right?โ
He nods, โYeah.โ
โThatโs great. Iโm really glad youโre doing well.โ
โThanks.โ A moment of silence there. โFor what itโs worth, it is really good to see you again.โ
Ashley lets out a genuine smile. Small, but genuine. โSame.โย
The sound of his laughter kinda aches a bit, but not in a way that has her sad. Just nostalgic. There is some easy banter, and somewhere in the back of her mind, Ashleyโs remembering a bit of why she loved him in the first place.ย
Thereโs a pause in the conversation, before she continues, โI havenโt gotten a chance to meet whoever youโre here with yet, but-โ
โFran.โ
โFran, right.โ she says. โBut Iโve heard a bit. How long have you two been together?โ
โAre we really going to do this?โ
She swallows the urge to fire back, shrugging instead. โWhy not? And donโt pretend like youโre not curious about Jack either. I figured I might as well just go first.โ
Alex laughs. โAround three years for Fran and I.โ
โYou love her?โ
โI do. A lot.โ
She smiles. Genuinely this time. โGood. Iโm glad to hear it.โ
โHow about you and Mr. NHL Superstar?โ
Again, she swallows down her instinct to fire back. โA little over a year now.โ
โYou happy?โ
โVery.โ
Alex nods once and doesnโt quite smile but has a pleasant expression on his face. โCam said that he likes him. Which is a lot, considering Iโm pretty sure he used to think that he was a cocky asshole.โ
Ashley knows itโs not meant in that way because she knows that her boyfriend has somewhat of a reputation, but she gets defensive. โPeople arenโt always what they seem. Even if heโs a pest on the ice sometimes, heโs a wonderful guy.โ You should know, she wants to say. You were the exact same way in high school.
Theyโre trickling into dangerous territory. She wonders if heโll take the bait. If he does, she wonders if sheโll be strong enough not to fall for it. She wonders if heโll apologize, not because she needs it, but because she knows she deserved one all those years ago.ย
Alex leans back casually, putting his arm over the empty chair next to him. โFrom me to Jack fucking Hughes. I donโt know if I should be flattered or offended.โ
Ashley doesnโt know at all how sheโs supposed to take that. Like everything heโs always done, he says it casually, taking a drink of water as sheโs figuring out how to respond. She doesnโt. For the first time, she feels like she doesnโt have control of this conversation.
He notices she has no response and keeps going. โHey, heโs a decent player and the money canโt hurt. Iโm glad youโre happy.โ
She swallows. A gold digger? Is that really what heโs hinting at?
Ashley almost sighs in relief when she catches sight of Jack, Cam and a woman who she presumes is Fran walking back towards them. Immediately she plasters on a smile and introduces herself to Fran, because itโs not her fault that her boyfriend still has the ability to get under her skin even so many years after their break-up. Jack presses a rum and coke in her hand silently and she thanks him quietly before making small talk with Fran. Just having Jack next to her has her blood pressure lowering. Soon enough, they all but shove Cam back into his own wedding and bid farewell as Fran excuses her and Alex and heads over to chat with someone she doesnโt recognize.ย
Jack leads her outside of the main reception hall into one of the hallways, where there are people sporadically chatting and also getting away from the music for a second.ย
Jack grabs her drink and faces her with a concerned look. โAsh? You okay? It seemed to get a littleโฆtense at times.โ
Ashley shrugs and chuckles. Itโs bitter though, and he knows it, immediately placing a grounding hand on her waist. โI was how I always am to everyone.โ
โSure,โ he responds skeptically.ย
She sighs. โIt was fine. Iโm fine. It didnโt go badly. I donโt know if it was good. It justโฆwas.โ She squeezes her eyes shut. โIt was fine. Itโs not a big deal. Itโs been four fucking years and itโs not like I love him anymore. I shouldnโt-โ
โHey. Stop. None of that,โ Jack says softly but firmly, leaning in closer and kissing her forehead as she bites her bottom lip harshly. He holds her hand gently and presses it against his chest. โOpen your eyes, baby. Take some breaths with me.โ
She obeys, looking into blue eyes that have become another home for her and taking deep breaths. โThanks.โ
โAlways. Wanna talk about it?โ
She debates in her mind. โNo. Itโs a wedding. Letโs go back and have fun and dance.โ
โYou sure?โ
She nods, before placing a peck on his lips. โIโll probably be more in my feelings tomorrow about it. Or the next week. But for now, come dance with me.โ
โLead the way.โ
Ashley doesnโt even look at Alexโs direction for the rest of the night, instead looking at Jack when she feels like the floor beneath her is gonna get pulled away. The stupidly romantic thing is, she knows heโll catch her everytime.
three - one year and nine months
โWhat do you think?โ
Jack looks up from where heโs sitting on her bed and his eyes pop open, jaw dropping with it. He tosses his phone to the side. โAsh. Holy shit.โ
Ashley twirls around in the yellow ruffle dress. โI like this one the most, but I donโt think itโs fancy enough.โ
She looks up to see him biting his lip, eyes scanning her body. She blushes as he beckons her to stand inbetween his legs. โDonโt care. You have to wear this one, please. It fits you perfectly.โ
She smoothes down the ruffles. โAre you sure itโs fancy enough?โ
โHoney, most of the guys probably wonโt even be wearing ties,โ she settles her hands in his hair. โWear this one. I know you love it and you look beautiful in it.โ
She lets out a breath. โOkay, yeah. I can pair it with those flower earrings and matching bracelet and I think Scarlett has white heels I could borrow and-โ
โWoah there,โ he chuckles, rubbing his thumbs on the fabric at her hips. โDid you have too much coffee today? Youโre talking a million miles a minute.โ
โNo,โ she drawls out. โIโm justโฆnervous? This is the first thing weโre going to thatโs soโฆโ
โPublic?โ He finishes for her. She nods. He pushes her gently so that sheโs sitting next to him. โI get that. Iโm a bit nervous too. But Iโll be there the whole time. And youโll have my parents and Quinn. And Nico will be there too. Besides, youโre great with people. Iโve seen you in action.โ
She shrugs modestly. โThatโs not what Iโm worried about.โ
โThen what is it youโre worried about?โ
She swallows at his tone, because she doesnโt think he gets it. Why would he? Heโs not the one thatโs going to be scrutinized by his fans. At least not to the degree she would be. โEveryone elseโs thoughts.โ
Jack nods slowly in realization. He leans in to kiss her lips twice. She has to admit it makes her feel a bit better. His kisses usually do. โYou know no one elseโs opinions mean anything. Besides, itโs very clear to anyone that Iโm happily taken.โ
And he has a point. Sheโs made an appearance on his Instagram with two photos in his annual summer dump โ one was just of her in the city and the other was of the two of them by the lake in Michigan โ and he hadnโt tagged her, but it was clearly a message to the world that he wasnโt a single man. Social media doesnโt matter and it never will, but it had been a decision they both had come to, Jack approaching her gently and asking if he could post them.ย
But having it through a screen and having it in real life is different.ย
โI know itโs stupid,โ she says. โBut you know me. I donโt particularly enjoy being out of my element.โ
โI know, I know,โ he bumps her knee with his. โItโll be fun though. Weโll get drunk the night before and maybe Iโll be hungover the next morning and you get to tell Luke if I do anything embarrassing.โ
Ashley laughs. โThat does sound fun.โ
โExactly.โ He cups her face in his hands. โI gotcha, baby. Always.โ
She trusts in that when she lands in Boston a few days later. She trusts in that as she gets swept in a world sheโs not quite comfortable in, but finds there are a lot more similarities than differences compared to environments sheโs been in. Sheโs a journalist after all. Itโs her job in a way to blend into different lives in order to get the best and most impactful stories. She trusts in that as sheโs rolling her eyes fondly at Jack, whoโs chatting with practically everyone at the bar. She doesnโt think sheโs ever seen this many hockey players in one room. She trusts in that as Jack then always drags whoever heโs talking to so that he can introduce her.ย
For someone who has always valued their privacy, Jack is making it pretty obvious that the โstunning girl in the floral shirtโ is his. Ashley canโt say she hates it, even if itโs a little bold for her particular taste.ย
โHe looks happy, doesnโt he?โ Ellen asks as they both watch Jack across the room with Auston Matthews. Ashleyโs cousins in Toronto would be freaking out right now.ย
Ashley snickers. โDrunk or happy?โ
โBoth?โ Ellen raises her glass up to knock it against Ashleyโs in a toast.
โIโll drink to that.โย
โThank you for coming. I know it means a lot to Jack that youโre here.โ
โThank you all for having me,โ Ashley responds, suddenly a bit shy. โItโs, been, uh, a bit overwhelming, to be honest.โ
โI can imagine,โ Ellen smiles sympathetically. โAll this hockey stuff, business wise, is more Jimmyโs scene than mine.โ
โReally?โ Ashley thinks to all that Jackโs told her about his mother and all the warmth Ellen has emitted since theyโve met, not to mention how everyone theyโve talked to โ player, coach, agent โ has gravitated towards Ellen.
To her credit, Ellen chuckles. โThatโs fair. Jack tells me that you know how to work a room, which is something that Jimmyโs always said about me.โ
Ashley traces the rim of her glass. โI think Jack gives me too much credit.โ
โIโm not sure about that,โ Ellen says with a knowing smile. โI read your article the other day. The one about the family whoโs had to travel across the country to get care for their child. Quinn sent it to me, actually.โ Quinn read it? She doesnโt remember sending it to him. Did Jack send it to him? โItโs an incredible piece of work. How long did that take you?โ
โFrom start to finish? Around two months.โ
Ellen grins, placing a motherly hand on her shoulder. โYouโre so talented, honey. I try to keep up with everything you write, but you do so much that sometimes I lose track.โ
"You really donโt have to do that. But thank you, Ellen. T-that means a lot to me.โย
โWhat does Mom not have to do?โ Jack asks, squeezing himself next to his girlfriend.
โRead my articles.โ
Jack grins. โWhy not? Theyโre so good. Our family group chat is filled with them. Dad always loves your profiles.โ
Ashley swallows. Sheโs pretty confident that the Hughes family likes her, but the fact that they all keep track of her published articles is a bit too much for her to handle right now. She downs the rest of her beer and waves Jack away when he opens his mouth to ask if she wants his. Instead, he asks the bartender for a ginger ale. Ashleyโs grateful.ย
The next day, Ashley smiles as Jackโs walking the carpet. Heโs up for the Hart trophy this year and as he squats down to greet a little boy and sign his jersey, Ashley canโt help but let her love and pride for him soar. Sheโs as out of the way as she can be, trying not to get overwhelmed with all the voices and flashes around her. It helps that Ellen and Jim seem to always be nearby and she makes fast friends with Nina and Luca, who are watching Nico do similar things.ย
She gets pulled out of her own world with a familiar hand on her waist. โHey,โ Jack murmurs into her ear.ย
โHi.โ
โDo you wanna jump into a few pictures with me?โ Jack asks softly. โItโll only take a few minutes. No pressure if not.โ
โUh, yeah. Sure.โ
He beams, offering an arm as he leads them over to where the photographers are. She tries not to blink too much as the flashes hurt her eyes and hopes she and Jack are looking in the same direction.ย
โYou look beautiful,โ he pairs his sincere compliment with a squeeze of her waist.ย
She smiles at the cameras for a few seconds before turning to him slightly. โYou already said that.โ
โI know. Itโs worth repeating.โ
Thankfully, itโs only about 30 seconds before everyone else โ Quinn, Jackโs parents and Nicoโs familyย โ are being ushered in for a group photo. She finds herself inbetween Jack and Nico and giggles as Nico tries to blow his hair out of his face. She takes pity on him after a few tries and she reaches up to fix it for him quickly, Nina laughing on the other side of her brother.ย
โStop messing with it,โ Ashley scolds lightly through clenched teeth, smiling for the pictures. โYouโre gonna make it worse.โ She giggles when Nico pokes her side a few seconds later.ย
When Jack wins the Hart, Ashley leaps out of her seat in excitement. To her, heโs always going to be the best player she knows because she sees firsthand how hard he works, but itโs nice that his peers are recognizing it too. He places a quick kiss on her lips before going up on stage and Ashleyโs clapping and laughing to herself. He was dreading having to make any sort of speech.ย
After the ceremony, she just follows everyone to whatever swanky rooftop seemingly the entire NHL is gathering at. She finds herself flocking towards Nina for a lot of the evening as they both exchange fun stories and memories of their own lives over drinks. Ashley thinks she could keep talking to Nina for the rest of her life. Sheโs just so damn cool.ย
The next day, she drags Jack around the BU campus and is happy pointing out buildings that she had classes in, cried in, cheered in and lived her life in. They walk from one end of Com Ave to the other, Ashley dutifully pointing out Agganis Arena (โIโm sure Trevor has some good memories in this buildingโ), their starting point.
She stands in front of the College of Communication building and stops. Jack dutifully stops next to her. โThis building kinda looks like shit.โ
Ashley snorts. โYeah, I know. Especially compared to all the science buildings.โ She bites her lip. โIt all started here.โ
โWhat did?โ
โThe dream.โ
And yeah, maybe thatโs a bit dramatic. But Jack said similar things when he brought her to Toronto earlier this year, so she knows he understands.ย
Almost two years together now, sheโs convinced that no one will really ever understand her like Jack does.ย
He nudges her hip with his, the breeze blowing comfortably through her hair and rustling the plants around them. They watch as a student walks through the front doors. โWanna go in?โย
She shakes her head. โNah, Iโm good.โ She tugs at his hand while sipping the lavender lemonade from Pavement in the other. โCome on. Iโll show you Bay State. I lived there my junior year after I came back from studying abroad in Dublin.โ
Bay State Road is beautiful as always in the Boston summer, Ashleyโs hand in Jackโs. She drags him out into the middle of the road and only squeals once when a car is coming and he pulls her to the sidewalk.ย
Campus isnโt the same when classes arenโt in session, but she hopes Jack can still feel some of the magic in the air through her stories.ย
โIt suits you.โ
She turns to Jack. โHm?โ
โThis city. It suits you.โ
โOh,โ she blushes for some reason. โThanks.โ
โDo you miss it here?โ
โAll the time,โ Ashley admits. โNew York is great, but Boston will always be home.โ
โWould you think of working here? If given the option?โ Jack asks.ย
โMaybe,โ Ashley squeezes Jackโs hand, โBut I also have reasons to stay in New York.โ
He smirks, but it quickly transitions into something gentler. โYeah?โ
She could throw something snarky back at him, but she looks around the brownstones and lets out a deep breath. This is home, but flashes of Hoboken and East Village flicker in her mind and thatโs also home.ย
She looks at Jack and feels overwhelmed. Oh. Itโs Boston. Itโs Hoboken. Itโs East Village. Itโs him. Jack is home.
four - two years
โBig day, huh?โย
Ashley just smiles at Carissa, nudging her side. โWeโve come a long way since that phone call at 2 a.m.โ
Carissa just snorts. โThat phone call got us here.โ
โTrue,โ Ashley squeezes her arm as they make their way to their assigned table. โLove you, girly.โ
โLove you more. Iโm proud of us.โ
Ashley grins, looking around as everyone is mingling amongst each other. There are past award winners here and Ashleyโs already done some of her internal fangirling, especially when Lynsey Addario came up to her and wanted to talk to her.ย
Sheโs still decently new in this industry and knows she has so much to learn, but itโs comforting to see that all of her hard work has paid off.ย
People are starting to take their seats and Ashley looks around at her colleagues. Everyoneโs dressed up and looks so lovely and Ashley smiles, looking down at her midnight blue dress. When Jack had seen her walk out of the changing room in it a few weeks ago, his eyes had popped out.ย
(โFuck,โ he had said. โNow Iโm even more pissed I canโt make it to the dinner.โ)
And yeah, it would be nice if he was here. But the Devils are playing the Islanders tonight. It sucks that heโs so close but so far away, but after two years now, itโs just part of the gig. And they make it work. So Ashley isnโt too upset about it, even if Jack is.ย
Sheโs a bit confused when there is an empty seat next to her, as it seems like the ballroom is filled. Thereโs no nametag there either, but her attention soon drifts off to the front. She has to bite her lip to stop herself from smiling too hard.ย
The Pulitzer Prize Awards Ceremony at Columbia University, also her alma mater in a way. Her 18-year-old-self who was sitting in the front row of Introduction to Journalism in Boston couldโve only dreamed about this day.ย
Opening remarks start and Ashley really does try to listen, but her eyes glaze over as her mind drifts off. She claps as the first few awards are being presented. She thinks about all the hours that it took to get this piece down, but also all the hours before โ in her classes, at her college paper, in her internships, during her job search. The times she wanted to throw in the towel and just do something else. Anything else.ย ย
โI didnโt miss too much, did I?โ She blinks, turning to the voice next to her. She freezes.ย
โJack?โ She breathes out. She hasnโt been sleeping much this week, so this could very well be a hallucination.ย
He beams and she reaches to place her hand on his cheek and she realizes as she scans her eyes up and down.ย Oh. Heโs in her favorite suit of his. And heโs here.ย
โOh my god,โ she wraps her arms around his neck as her whole table cheers. Thankfully, thereโs a lull in the ceremony where the whole room is blanketed in a low buzz. โWhat the f-donโt you have a game?โ
โTechnically,โ Jack says, nodding at her coworkers with a charming smile. โTook a personal day.โ
โWhat? You can do that?โ
โYeah,โ he shrugs, like he didnโt just skip a game to be here. He rubs his thumb on her shoulder as he kisses her temple. โThis is a huge deal, baby. I wasnโt gonna miss it. Iโm so proud of you.โ
โLindyโs not mad? Nicoโs not mad?โ
Jack snorts. โThe second you won, I told Lindy to count me out for the game so he can do what he wants with that. Nicoโs lowkey pissed he also canโt be here.โ He turns to Carissa on the other side and beams. โHey Care. Congrats.โ
โThanks, Jack,โ Carissa beams. โSurprised you pulled this off.โ
โSurprised we pulled this off.โ
Ashley looks at Carissa. โYou knew about this?โ
โOf course. Who do you think made sure he would have a seat?โ
She looks between her colleague and her boyfriend. Something creeps up her throat that feels a lot like love.ย
When her and Carissa are recognized and they have to go up to accept the award and give a short speech, itโs kinda a blur. All she remembers is Jackโs kiss on her cheek and receiving a standing ovation as she and Carissa walk up together. So many hours with her eyes glazed over glaring at the laptop. So many hours interviewing with people and reconfirming facts. So many hours dedicated to this one piece.ย
She wouldnโt have it any other way.ย
As Carissa is speaking, she locks eyes with Jack. Heโs beaming and his eyes are actually sparkling. His hair tousled and heโs so handsome and heโs hers.ย
(She almost trips walking back to him)ย
He chuckles, pulling her into another tight hug. โYouโre amazing, baby. Congratulations.โ
โThank you,โ she chokes out. โThank you for calming me down all the times I was freaking out.โ
โOf course. Iโm sure all those glasses of cold water helped,โ he jokes. She always said the ice cold water he would place next to her laptop would wake up her brain.ย
She laughs into his shoulder. โThey did.โ
He pulls away and just stares at her, smile still on his face. Their attention is taken away by someone who wants to congratulate Ashley and has no recognition on their face when looking at Jack.ย
(Jack looks on with pride)
plus one - three years and four months
Stanley Cups are interesting. Even some of the best athletes of all time have never gotten one. And some that are only slightly above average perhaps were just placed on the right team in the right season.ย
But this Stanley Cup, in Ashleyโs completely unbiased opinion, this one was fully deserved. By every single person on the team.ย
She doesnโt think sheโll ever forget the absolute joy in Nicoโs eyes as he lifted the cup in the air to a roaring crowd at The Rock, or how long the hug between Jack and Luke was when the final whistle sounded, or seeing Ellen cry as her two sons beckoned her in for a picture with the cup, her other son and husband standing close by with pride in their eyes.ย
The picture of her and Jack by the cup as heโs kissing her cheek as she smiles so widely her eyes are shut might be her favorite picture of them of all time.ย
Ashley had wondered if Jack was going to bring the cup to Toronto or Michigan. He ended up bringing it to Toronto while Luke brought it to Michigan. It ended up being all the same, since they were both present at both.ย
Jack winning the Cup is obviously a huge celebration. But heโs not the only one with something to celebrate.
Yesterday, when they were out to lunch with some of his extended family, Ashley had found out by phone that she was just promoted to be a director of her team. After her phone call, she had just covered her mouth in shock as she sat down on a nearby bench. It wasnโt until a few minutes later when a concerned Jack came up to her and asked what was wrong, before she told him and he smothered her face in kisses.ย
The parade around his pseudo-hometown is absolutely insane. Ashley doesnโt even know how she has a voice by mid-afternoon, much less how Jack has one considering that heโs been yelling all day. At some point, she forces him to sit down and chug a giant water bottle.ย
But she canโt overthink too hard. Her phoneโs filled with pictures of Jack with his loved ones and she just feels proud.ย
Some of Jackโs extended family who still live in the area offered their home to host a party that night with just friends and family. Ashley did all she could to help prepare, which included coming over to decorate the night before and parking herself in the kitchen the second they got there to offer a helping hand. Well, she tried, before every single person pushed her away and insisted she go join the celebrations.ย
She finds herself in a long, in-depth conversation with one of Jackโs younger cousins whoโs thinking about working in media when she notices it suddenly becomes quiet. Suddenly, the light flickers off and Ashley is confused.
Jack then walks in with a circular cake with candles lit paired with his beautiful smile. Ashley blinks in confusion as everyoneโs eyes fall on her and before she can ask what the hell is going on, Luke bounds over to her and swings an arm around her shoulder, shaking her.ย
โCongrats on your promotion, Ash!โ Luke exclaims.ย
Her mouth drops open and she looks around as everyone in the room cheers and shouts out their congratulations. She chuckles in shock as Jack walks closer. And then suddenly, all she can focus on is him.ย
โWhat are you doing?โ She whispers, suddenly wanting to cry.ย
โCome on,โ he says with the softest smile. โYou didnโt think Iโd just keep the news to myself, did you?โ
โBut this is your day,โ she chokes out.ย
โMy day. Your day. Itโs all the same, eh?โ Jack nods at the candles. โHurry up. My arms are getting tired.โ
A watery laugh from her before she blows out the candles at everyoneโs cheers. Jack places the cake on a nearby table before smothering her in a tight hug. Ashleyโs heart could burst right now at the love she feels from the people in the room and the person in her arms. She gets a chance to really look at the cake, which is white and sage with โCongratulations Jack and Ashley!โ in beautiful script at the center. The lights turn back on and Quinnโs the first one who comes up to hug her. As Ellen is giving Ashley a kiss on the cheek, she sees Jack over Ellenโs shoulder, smiling at her.ย
She swallows as she pulls away, before glancing at the ring on her left finger. Ashleyโs never let herself want much in her life. But if someone asked her what she wants with her life, she would just place them in this room. Right here. Right now.ย
(They cut the cake together. Ashley feels a buzzing joy throughout her bones)

"Gonna make a momma, right, baby?" Jack grunted as he fucked into you, his hips snapped against the back of your thigh roughly. He couldn't help it, his head was spinning at the thought of fucking a baby inside you. Yeah, you two were young but that wasn't an excuse - he wanted to.
You didn't even comprehend anything he was saying, you just took his cock as he fucked you. Your throat hurt with how loud you were sore from the position you were in but everything just faded, all you could feel was his cock driving into you. He held your hips into place as he fucked into you as you drooled all over the pillow.
He grabbed your hair and pushed your face harder into the pillow, ramming into you. "Yeah, sweetheart, you're gonna be mine forever now. Gonna have my baby."
"Mhm," you moaned out as you nodded quickly. "Yes, Jack."
"Yeah? You want my babies in you, huh?" Jack let out a breathless chuckle as his head fell back. "Shit, baby. Gonna cum inside you, princess."
You nodded again, you were close to finishing too. He kept ramming into you harder and harder, your head was spinning and you felt like you were about to pass out. Jack gripped your hips harder and leaned to your ear, you could hear his grunts even clearer now as he fucked you into the mattress. "Gonna cum, Jack."
"Cum for me, princess."
You let go, cumming all over his cock. You cried out loudly, your whole body shaking but Jack held your hips in place as he fucked into you harder now, it felt like the whole room was shaking at the impact. "Make me momma, please, Jack." You moaned and that was all Jack needed to completely cum into you. He kept you hips in place to make sure you took all his cum, fucking you through both your highs.

Does He Know
Part 2
Word Count - 3023
The bedroom was eerily quiet, the only sound the soft ticking of the clock on the nightstand and the distant hum of traffic outside the window. The once-comforting space now felt cold and unfamiliar, as if the revelation of Vince's cheating had tainted every corner of their shared life.
Y/N sat on the edge of the bed, her shoulders slumped and her head bowed, the revelation of Vince's betrayal pressing down on her like a physical force. The hotel receipt lay crumpled in her hand even days after the discovery, the damning evidence of his infidelity a tangible reminder of the shattered trust between them.
Her eyes were red-rimmed and puffy, the tracks of her tears still glistening on her cheeks. Her normally vibrant face was pale and drawn, the light in her eyes dimmed by the pain and confusion swirling in her heart. She stared blankly at the floor, the plush carpet blurring before her as fresh tears welled up, obscuring her vision.
Vince stood in the doorway, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his jeans, his shoulders hunched in a posture of guilt and remorse. He watched Y/N, his heart aching at the sight of her so broken and lost. The urge to go to her, to wrap her in his arms and beg for forgiveness, was overwhelming, but he hesitated, unsure if his touch would be welcome.
"Y/N," he said softly, his voice cracking with emotion. "Please, talk to me. Itโs been a week and you havenโt said a word. I ended things with her, I want to put you first. We can work through this. You know I love you."
Y/N's head snapped up, her eyes blazing with a mix of anger and anguish. "You love me?" she repeated, her voice raw and trembling. "How do we work through the fact that you betrayed me, that you broke our vows, that you..." her voice broke, a sob tearing from her throat. "How could you do this to me, to us? You told me you wanted to have a family and the next day you go and cheat."
Vince took a tentative step into the room, his hand outstretched in a gesture of supplication. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his own eyes shining with unshed tears. "It was a mistake, a moment of weakness. I was feeling insecure and went out to find something to fix it. It didn't mean anything more than that, I swear."
Y/N shook her head, a mirthless laugh escaping her lips. "It meant something to me," she said, her voice barely audible. "It meant everything to me. Our marriage, our love, our future... it was all a lie."
Vince crossed the room in two quick strides, dropping to his knees before her, his hands reaching for hers. Y/N flinched at his touch, pulling away, the hotel receipt fluttering to the floor between them. The sight of it, lying there like a boundary, a divide, was too much for Vince to bear.
"Please," he begged, his voice thick with tears. "Don't give up on us. I know I hurt you, and I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you, but please, don't let this be the end."
Y/N looked at him, her eyes searching his face, looking for some glimmer of the man she had loved, the man she had trusted with her heart. But all she saw was a stranger, a man capable of deceit and betrayal. The pain in her chest intensified, a physical ache that took her breath away.
"I don't know if you deserve that," she whispered, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible. "I don't know if I can ever trust you again. I donโt want to trust that."
Vince's shoulders slumped, the weight of her words hitting him like a physical blow. He bowed his head, tears dripping onto the carpet. Y/N watched him, her own heart breaking, torn between the love she still felt for him and the unbearable pain of his betrayal.
โฆ
Y/N sat at her desk, staring blankly at the computer screen in front of her. The cursor blinked mockingly, the empty document a reflection of the emptiness she felt inside. Her eyes drifted to the small slip of paper tucked beneath a stack of files, the edges peeking out invitingly. Jack's number. She had taken it on a whim at their last family gathering, not really intending to use it, but now...
Before she could second-guess herself, Y/N reached for the paper, her fingers trembling slightly as she dialed the number into her phone. She held her breath as it rang once, twice, three times.
"Hello?" Jack's voice was slightly breathless, as if he had been in the middle of something.
"Jack? It's Y/N. I'm sorry, is this a bad time?" Y/N bit her lip, suddenly unsure of herself.
"Y/N! No, no, it's fine. I just got out of practice, that's all. What's up?" Jack's tone was warm, friendly, and Y/N felt herself slightly relaxing.
"I was just wondering if you might want to grab a coffee later? I could use a friendly face and some good conversation." Y/N held her breath, waiting for his response.
"How could I possibly refuse coffee with such a beautiful woman?" Jack's voice was playful, teasing, and Y/N found herself laughing despite herself. She didnโt even remember the last time Vince called her beautiful or anything romantic at all for that matter.
"Great. How about that little place on Main Street, say around 4?" she asked.
"It's a date then. I'll see you there." With a click, the line went dead, and Y/N found herself smiling, a flutter of excitement in her stomach. The sound of the office door opening startled her, and she looked up to see Vince standing in the doorway, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Who were you talking to?" he asked, his tone slightly accusatory.
Y/N hesitated for a moment before answering. "A family friend, Jack. We're going to grab coffee later."
Vince's face darkened, his jaw clenching. "Really, Y/N? You're going to start hanging out with other guys now? I thought we were supposed to be working on our marriage, not complicating things further."
Y/N felt a spark of anger flare in her chest. "Oh, that's rich coming from you, Vince when Iโm not even sure I wanna be with you. You're the one who complicated our marriage by sleeping with someone else for four months. I'm just trying to find a little bit of independence outside of you and support where I can."
Vince ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident in every line of his body. "I know I messed up, Y/N. I know I hurt you. But you trying to get even with me is not allowed. I'm trying to be there for you. Running off with some other guy who just wants to sleep with you isn't going to solve anything."
Y/N stood up, her hands clenched at her sides. "I'm not running off with anyone, Vince. I'm having coffee with a friend. And frankly, I don't think you have any right to tell me who I can and can't spend time with, not after what you did. I will continue doing whatever the hell I want."
Vince opened his mouth to respond, but Y/N cut him off. "I can't do this with you right now, Vince. I need some space, far, far away from you. And I need to know that I have people in my life who I can count on, who I can trust. Right now, that's not you."
She grabbed her phone and pushed past him, ignoring the stricken look on his face. As she walked out of the office, she felt a sense of lightness, of freedom. She knew that her problems with Vince were far from over, that they had a long way to go if they were ever going to rebuild what they had lost.
โฆ
They settled into the plush, worn leather armchairs, the rich burgundy color a warm contrast to the pale green walls of the cozy coffee shop. The late afternoon sun streamed through the large picture window, casting a golden glow over the polished wooden tabletops and the colorful artwork that adorned the walls.
Across from her, Jack leaned back in his chair, one arm draped casually over the back, his long legs stretched out beneath the table. He was dressed in a fitted navy blue henley that accentuated his broad shoulders and a pair of dark wash jeans that hugged his lean hips.
The gentle hum of conversation and the occasional hiss of the espresso machine created a soothing ambiance, a welcome respite from the chaos of her personal life. "So there I was, standing in the middle of the pet store, covered in dog food, and this little old lady comes up to me and says, 'Young man, I think you've got something on your shirt.'" Jack's voice was rich and warm, with a hint of mischief that made Y/N smile despite herself.
She laughed, the sound bright and genuine, and she felt some of the tension that had been coiled tight in her chest start to loosen. It felt good to laugh, to forget about her troubles for a moment and just enjoy the company of a friend.
Y/N cradled her mug of steaming hazelnut latte in both hands, the heat seeping into her skin and the rich, nutty aroma filling her nostrils. She inhaled deeply, savoring the scent, before taking a small sip. The creamy, slightly sweet liquid coated her tongue, and she closed her eyes for a moment, letting the flavor and the warmth wash over her.
When she opened them again, she found Jack watching her, his gaze intense and focused. He had one elbow propped on the table, his chin resting on his hand, and he was leaning forward slightly, as if drawn to her.
"You know, Y/N," he said softly, his voice low and intimate, โHe doesnโt know how lucky he is does he? To be married to someone so gorgeous and interesting as you. ย He must always let you down, he probably doesnโt even buy you flowers or cook dinner. you're handling it with such grace and resilience."
Y/N felt a flush creep up her neck at his words, and she glanced down at her mug, suddenly shy. "thatโs what happens when men arenโt in love with you anymore," she murmured, tracing the rim of the cup with her finger. "And Iโm not handling it gracefully at all. Most days, I feel like I'm barely keeping it together."
"You're stronger than you give yourself credit for," Jack said, his thumb rubbing small circles on the back of her hand. "And you don't have to go through this alone. I'm here for you, whenever you need me."
Y/N swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly dry. There was something in Jack's gaze, in his touch, that made her feel seen, understood in a way she hadn't experienced in a long time. It was both thrilling and terrifying, and she found herself leaning closer, drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
"Thank you, Jack," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own heartbeat. "That means more to me than you know." Jack smiled, a slow, warm curve of his lips that made Y/N's stomach flip.
They sat there for a moment, lost in each other's gaze, the rest of the world fading away until it was just the two of them, connected by a thread of understanding and attraction that seemed to grow stronger with every passing second.
Finally, Y/N pulled her hand away, breaking the spell. She cleared her throat, suddenly aware of the other patrons in the coffee shop, the clatter of dishes and the hum of conversation rushing back in. "We should probably find somewhere more quiet," she said, glancing at her watch. "Itโs getting crowded in here."
As they left the coffee shop, Jack suggested a walk along the nearby beach. Y/N readily agreed, eager to feel the salty breeze on her face and the sand beneath her feet. They strolled along the shore, their shoulders brushing occasionally, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks a soothing rhythm.
Y/N found herself opening up to Jack in a way she hadn't with anyone else, not even Vince. She told him about the struggles in her marriage, the doubts and insecurities that had plagued her even before Vince's betrayal. Jack listened intently, his brow furrowed in concern, his hand occasionally reaching out to give hers a comforting squeeze.
The sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, they settled down on the sand, side by side, watching the stars slowly emerge in the darkening sky. Y/N felt a sense of peace wash over her, a feeling she hadn't experienced in longer than she could remember.
She glanced over at Jack, only to find him already staring at her, his gaze intense and filled with an emotion she couldn't quite name. Y/N's heart skipped a beat, a flutter of something dangerous and exciting stirring in her chest.
"You know," Jack said softly, his voice barely audible over the crash of the waves, "Vince is a fool for not realizing what he had in you. You deserve so much better, Y/N. You deserve someone who will cherish you, who will put you first, always."
Y/N swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly dry. She knew she should pull away, should put some distance between them, but she found herself leaning closer, drawn in by the magnetism of Jack's presence.
"And who might that someone be?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jack's hand was warm and slightly rough against Y/N's cheek, his touch sending shivers down her spine. His thumb traced the delicate curve of her cheekbone, the gesture intimate and possessive. Y/N's eyes fluttered closed for a moment, her breath coming in short, shallow gasps as she leaned into his touch. โI think you know," he murmured, his eyes darkening with desire.
Y/N's breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew this was wrong, knew she was treading on dangerous ground, but in that moment, with the stars shining above them and Jack's touch setting her skin on fire, she couldn't find it in herself to care.
"Are you happy with him?" Jack asked, his voice low and husky. "I can do so much more for you than just make you happy."
Y/N shuddered at his words, a heat blooming in her core. She knew she should pull away, should put some distance between them, but she found herself drawn to Jack like a moth to a flame. His presence was intoxicating, his gaze hypnotic, and she felt herself falling under his spell.
"I..." Y/N's voice trailed off, her thoughts scattered and jumbled. She couldn't think straight, not with Jack's hand on her face and his body so close to hers. "I don't know anymore. Things with Vince are so complicated, so broken. I don't know if we can ever go back to the way things were."
Jack leaned in closer, his lips just inches from hers. "Then don't go back," he murmured, his breath hot against her skin. "Move forward. With me."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat at his words, a thrill of excitement and fear running through her. She knew that what Jack was offering was dangerous, that it could destroy what little was left of her marriage. But there was a part of her, a part that had been buried for so long, that yearned for the passion and excitement that Jack promised.
"Jack," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I can't. I'm still married. I made vows."
Jack's hand slid down to the nape of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair. "Vows that Vince already broke," he reminded her, his tone gentle but insistent. "You deserve to be happy, Y/N. You deserve to be with someone who will cherish you, who will put you first."
Y/N's resolve wavered, her body responding to Jack's touch even as her mind screamed at her to stop. She knew that what he was saying made sense, that Vince had shattered their vows the moment he had slept with another woman. But still, she hesitated, torn between her desire for Jack and her sense of loyalty to her husband.
"I don't know what to do," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm so confused, so lost."
Jack's other hand came up to cup her face, tilting her chin up so that she was looking directly into his eyes. "Let me guide you," he murmured, his gaze intense and filled with promise. "Let me show you what it's like to be truly loved, truly desired."
Y/N's breath caught in her throat, her pulse racing. She knew that she was standing on the edge of a precipice, that if she took this step, there would be no going back. But with Jack's hands on her skin and his words echoing in her ears, she found herself wanting to take that leap, to give in to the desire that had been building between them for weeks.
Slowly, tentatively, Y/N leaned in, her lips parting slightly. Jack met her halfway, his mouth claiming hers in a kiss that was both tender and passionate. Y/N melted into him, her hands coming up to tangle in his hair as she pressed her body against his.
For a moment, the world fell away, and there was nothing but the two of them, lost in each other's embrace. Y/N knew that there would be consequences, that she would have to face the fallout of her actions. But in that moment, with Jack's lips on hers and his hands roaming her body, she couldn't bring herself to care.
All that mattered was the fire that Jack had ignited within her, the passion and desire that had been missing from her life for so long.

November 10, 2023
The Devils played the Capitalโs and lost 2-4 and the team decided to go out after the game as most of them just wanted to get drunk as they had the next day off.
Jack was out for that game but was watching in the press box decided to join the team as well.
Luke was pretty frustrated after the game so Jacks and Sebastian shared a look and decided they would let Luke drink as much as he wanted and Jack would get the drinks for him.
They have been at the bar for at least a few hours now and Luke has gone through many drinks and shots and was fully leaning against Sebastian and falling asleep.
โJacky.โ Sebastian called out from where he was sitting with Luke and he instantly got Jackโs attention as Jack spun around and saw his baby brother falling asleep.
โYou got him?โ Jack doubled checked as Sebastian stood up with Luke completely leaning on Sebastian his eyes barely open.
Sebastian nodded and followed Jack out of the bar as they waved bye to their teammates.
Jack opened the back seat and helped Sebastian get Luke into the car and Luke whined when Sebastian tried to let go of Luke making Sebastian and Jack share a fond look and Sebastian got into the backseat with Luke.
Luke instantly curled up on Sebastian and his breath slowed down.
โIs he asleep?โ Jack smiled as he looked through the mirror seeing Luke completely laying on Sebastian.
โYeah.โ Sebastian hummed and gently rubbed his hands through Lukeโs hair, he frowned gently seeing the dark circles under Lukeโs eyes and how pale he has gotten.
โAre you alright Bassie?โ Jack gently questioned as he was driving and looked through the mirror and could tell Sebastian was troubled.
โItโs a lot.โ Sebastian mumbled out knowing if anyone would understand it would Jack, โI just didnโt expect it to be so much.โ Sebastian knew it was going to be hard in the NHL he just didnโt expect for it to be this much, especially with all the injuries and how much Luke and Sebastian are both playing.
โIt is. It doesnโt get easier but you get use to it.โ Jack didnโt want to lie and say it was easy the longer you are in the NHL because he knew that was a lie.
โThank you Jacky for taking care of us.โ Sebastian truly appreciated how much Jack has helped both him and Luke when he didnโt have to.
โAlways buddy always i gotta take care of my two baby brothers.โ Jack playfully winked through the mirror smiling as he saw the smile on Sebastianโs face.
Sebastian leaned his head back onto the seat closing his eyes for the rest of the drive.
Sebastian leaned his head up as Jack parked the car and he gently shook Luke awake but just got a grumble.
Sebastian gently shifted out from under Luke and got out of the car.
โIs he awake?โ Jack peeked into the car still seeing Luke still fast asleep in the car.
Sebastian shook his head in reply and slipped his arm under Lukeโs legs and picked him up. Luke didnโt even stir and just rested his head m on to Sebastianโs chest still fast asleep.
Jack just smiled shaking his head and closed the car door.
They walked to the elevator and took it up to their floor and walked down the hallway to their front door, Jack opened the door and Sebastian walked in and headed down the hallway to his and Lukeโs room.
Sebastian gently set Luke down on the bed and started taking his shoes and skipped the shirt off Lukeโs head and his jeans and grabbed a pair of shorts and put them on Luke. Luke didnโt even stir but Sebastian was used to that and he has permission from Luke to change him when heโs asleep and drunk.
Sebastian quickly got changed into a pair of sweatpants and then grabbed both of their phones plugging them both in but making sure the notifications were all off. Sebastian closed all the blinds of all the windows in their room so they can sleep in.
Jack walked to the doorway and leaned on the doorway fondly smiling at the two, heโs loves being able to see all the little things between them and truthfully loves their relationship so much.
Sebastian looked over and saw Jack standing at the door with water and medicine for the morning and the drunk bin they have in case one of them is sick.
Jack walked in and set the bin down on Lukeโs side and set the rest on his nightstand and he turned around and pulled Sebastian into a gently hug.
Sebastian relaxed into Jackโs hug and leaned down to rest his head on Jackโs shoulder.
โYou are doing amazing job bassie and you are having an insane rookie season, buddy iโm very proud of you.โ Jack held Sebastian tightly as told him everything Sebastian should know.
โThank you.โ Sebastian mumbled feeling a lot better but he wasnโt surprised it was Jack, Jack always had a way of making him feel better.
โAlways.โ Jack promised his adopted little brother and pressed a kiss to the side of his head before letting him go, โGet some sleep you deserve it.โ Jack sent him a smile heading towards the door.
โJacky?โ Sebastian called out and Jack turned around curiously, โI love you.โ Sebastian didnโt say those words often to anyone that wasnโt Luke but Jack deserves to hear them more.
Jack felt his heart and face soften immensely, โI love you too.โ Jack smiled and turned back around and closed the door behind him.
Sebastian let out a breath and walked over to the bed and laid down on his back and even in his sleep and drunk Luke scooted closer to Sebastianโs and threw his arm over his stomach.
Luke mumbled something against Sebastian chest and Sebastian softly chuckled pressing a kiss to Lukeโs head, โI love you too.โ

'it's always been you'
jack was a lot of things you could say, but he was most importantly blairs best friend since he moved to canton years ago. she grew up across the street from the ever chaotic hughes boys, who somehow always pulled her and her brother out of the house.
or at least he was her best friend, once he left for the show; messages and facetimes stopped. her family moved away shortly to san diego after she began her freshman year at university of southern california, double majoring in pre law and political science. she slowly but surely over the course of the years had begun to faze him out of her life, knowing full well he got rid of her too. blair recently graduated from USC with manga cum laude and decided to consider the possibility of moving to new york to start her life. her older brother joey had been out there for 6 years already, with college and now his professional career. and so here she was, two suitcases packed for two full weeks of sightseeing and potential job hunting in the city.
she strolled out of jfk, looking for her brother who stood waiting beside his car and once the two found one another they quickly jogged over to one another. "hey sis, glad you made it in safety!" he said taking the two suitcases from the girl, to put in the trunk. she hopped in the driver side, quickly connecting her phone to the Bluetooth. "couldn't wait 2 secs could you?" he joked, as he hopped in hearing olivia rodrigo blaring. "nah." she grinned, letting her parents know she was with her brother. "coffee?" he mused, and she nodded excitedly. "ya know it." she smiled.
โข
she had been here 2 days already and had done some sightseeing with her brother on the first day, and then yesterday explored lower manhattan and had stopped in to see where her brother worked, in the financial district. tonight though, they were going to be going out with some of his friend group and she was nervous. she hated being in a room of people in public no less without meeting them first one on one, but he promised her they were cool and very chill. besides, they were excited to meet the young girl who kept him on his toes. and the one who always had a joke to say. she sat down at the vanity an hour before they had to leave and quickly did some natural makeup and loose waves, before picking out a black crop long sleeve, short black faux leather skirt, black ankle boots and a small green purse. she walked out to the living room greeting her brother's girlfriend who smiled widely. "ouuu yes! i love the outfit blair!" she said genuinely and blair blushed. "you look great, i love it! you are gonna rock it." mogan spoke softer so just she could hear it and blair nodded, and thanked her for the support. she had changed over the course of four years and her body changed drastically. her 5'2 figure took a hit and that in turn lowered her self esteem and confidence within herself. she had been invited over the years to visit two friends at university of michigan but felt so poorly of herself, she never went. she didn't want anybody to see how much she'd change, even went as far to make a new instagram. besides, she had a whole new life out in california and that made it easier for her to never look back. and lets be honest, she didn't want jack or his brothers to see how she looked. she had adored the middle child the three years she knew him and once things started to change, she knew she could never be enough for him.
morgan grabbed ahold of the girl's hand as they walked towards the restaurant in greenwhich village. "have you guys been here before?" blair questioned as they quickly went to their usual seats. morgan nodded, "yeah all the time!" she beamed. the three walked towards the back, their friends all jumping up to greet the sister. "hi I'm jackson, nice to meet the girl who keeps him on his toes!" the dark haired man said causing her to laugh, "ofcourse! blair nice to meet you jackson!" she said hugging him back quickly. "I'm jackie! i work with morgan, nice to finally meet you! heard so much about ya. by the way, i love the outfit!!!" jackie said hugging the girl, and blair smiled thanking her. she moved on to three other people, two girls and a guy and then she sat down next to her brother. "has he convinced you yet to move here full time?" aaron questioned and she shook her head at the tall redhead. "nah not yet, though I'm sure its coming." she giggled, and the rest laughed. the waiter came over to collect drink orders, and she ordered a cranberry vodka and water. "where do you wanna work again?" her brother asked and blair smiled, "either go to law school to become yknow a lawyer or in a government agency. not too sure yet." she said shrugging and the others nodded. "well I'm sure jackson could hook you up, he works for town hall." and jackson shrugged nodding. "yeah, its a nice gig." he said. the group fell into a comfortable conversation, and trying to get to know the girl a bit more.
two hours later, they decided to head up to upper east side to go to a club, and so they made the almost hour treck up from Greenwich village. they ended up at one that the group frequented and once they got inside, joey took blair up to the bar to get drinks. the two stood there conversing as they waited for the drinks. that's when she saw him. no, not jack but the knock off kurt russell who played in california. somehow, she'd avoided him despite her parents living in the same area as him. trevor did a double take to the siblings before clapping his hand on joey's shoulder, causing blair to look up and catch trevors eye. "hey man, whats up?" joey said turning around and bro hugging with him. "good good, playing in the best league is more than i could ask!" trevor said cheekily and joey nodded, turning back to blair. trevor looked at blair as if she was somebody he'd never met before, "is this your girl?" trevor asked somewhat crass. blair shook her head, "no this is blair!" joey said looking at trevor like he was an idiot. "oh my god blair! how are you?! i didn't even recognize you." trevor said now realizing his mistake and blair took that to heart. she swallowed hardly, trying to not cry. she cursed her damn sensitivity. "i-im alright." she said smiling weakly, before looking over and seeing the tray of drinks. "good seeing you man." joey said somewhat crass, annoyed with the hockey player. "yeah, you too! is it true your parents are in newport?" he asked and joey nodded before walking off with blair. trevor stood their for a brief few seconds before taking drink and rushing back to the group.
blair chugged her cranberry vodka, surprisingly fast. joey watched as she did so, and then went to take a shot of tequila. she coughed as it finished going down, and he clapped her back a few times. "I'm gonna get another one." she said and joey wrapped an arm around her, not allowing her too. "no you're not getting drunk..at least not yet." he winked and she rolled her eyes. "come on lets go dance, girly!" morgan said pulling the girl out to the dance floor. ofcourse dancing queen had to be on, and the girl jumped in a circle along with jackie and annabelle the other girl that was jackson's girlfriend.
as soon as trevor reached the group that consisted of quinn, luke, jack, alex, cole, pk and a few other players in their group. "yo guys you wont believe i just saw at the bar!" he said freaking out, and some of the guys laughed. "who?" alex questioned throwing an arm over his shoulder. "joey and blair anderson!" he said breathlessly. "woah calm down their bud." alex joked laughing, as the three hughes searched the crowd for the siblings. once blair left right after the draft to move with her parents to california, joey fell off the face of the planet as well. quinn and joey had been the closest due to age and playing for usndtp together, and so that had hurt him as well. "where is she? i see joey but not her." jack said looking at trevor and trevor searched the crowd too. "she looks completely different, i thought she was his girlfriend." and then he found her. trevor pointed towards the quartet of girls, and jack needed no confirmation of which one was which. the same dark hair that sometimes crept up in his dreams was the same as when they were in highschool. he took in how much she had changed physically and absolutely adored the softness of her hips that peeked out from her cropped sweater. the subtle roundness of her cheeks, with her dimples ever present.
"damn shes changed." cole said and jack could feel the judgeness of his voice, as he finished that statement. "so?" jack said feeling himself getting angry and then cole recognized his mood changing. "like it fucking matters." quinn said hitting cole in the chest, understanding what cole was trying to say. "I'm getting another drink." jack said standing up and walking towards the bar. back on the dance floor, blair craved another cranberry vodka and pulled morgan over with her. "hi, can i please have a cranberry vodka!" blair asked and they nodded, putting it on joeys tab. blair and morgan talked at the bar, not realizing that jack was on the other end of it downing two shots. "thankyou!" blair said taking the drink and shot that was put down in front of the two. the two clinked the glasses together and once on the bar before throwing them back. blair coughed again and laughed as morgan's face grimaced. as soon as jack heard the coughing, he looked down and realized that blair was inches from him. now or never he thought, as she was about to walk off. "blair!" he said but she didn't hear him, he took two big steps and called her once again and she froze, before turning around. who could possibly know me here, she asked herself. she turned around jack and her eyes went wide. "blai-" he said once more, reaching out a hand before she speed off with morgan back to the table. jack caught joey's eye and his eyes went wide as well before turning his attention back to blair. jack stood there seeing if joey would walk over, but he didn't. instead the two of them plus morgan calling it a night.
โข
it was the next morning and blair was staring at the ceiling of the guest bedroom. she groaned rolling over, and pushing her face into the pillow. she hadn't been able to get jacks shocked face out of her head the whole night. she had had a nightmare about the summer she left for california with her parents, and he had forgotten her birthday. she didn't realize she was crying until she heard a sob tumble out of her, as her mind with self doubts. she sat up, crying into her hands and thanked the universe her brother and his girlfriend had left for brunch awhile ago. she declined their invitation and said she just wanted to sleep. she wiped her tears, and got out of bed throwing on a sweater and a pair of black leggings and her birkenstocks on. she decided she needed some coffee and a breakfast sandwich to lift her mood just a bit. she walked out of her brothers apartment and headed down to starbucks on the corner. she took in the sights, smells and sound of saturday early afternoon. she thanked the person that opened the door for her, and headed to the line quickly. she got her usual cold brew and sausage sandwich, and sat down at the table by the window. she scrolled through tiktok, trying her very hardest to laugh like a maniac in public.
about 30 minutes into her stay, she felt somebody staring but she pushed it away. not wanting to give anybody her undivided attention. she stood up a few minutes later, and headed towards the trash to throw away her garbage. as she was about to open the door, somebody did it for her. she looked up at the blue eyes she had once adored. she sighed seeing trevor and cole accompanying the player. she walked out quickly, heading back to her brothers apartment. she was close to the door once she heard her name. she rolled her eyes knowing it was jack, and so she slowed down a bit and waited for him to catch up. "blair!" he said finally reaching her and stepped in front of her. her eyebrows creased, looking up at him. all 5'11 of him. "yes?" she questioned, crossing her arms across her chest. he knew that nervous tick she had done from the very first time they met. "uh- how are you doing?" he asked, pushing some hair out of his face. she rolled her eyes, and continued her trek towards the front door of the apartment building. "wait blair!" he said pulling her arm, and she yanked it back. "hi how are you doing? after four years jack, seriously? fuck off." she breathed, turning back. "hey you didn't reach out either, ok?" he said and she stopped looking back at him. "i congratulated you, you ass. i texted you the night you got drafted and never got a response, jack. so that's on you, not me." she seethed, and he realized that he'd been in the wrong. "i cried every night that summer, in a scary and strange new place and you- you didn't even reach out once my parents dropped the move on your parents." she said feeling tears pool her eyes. "all i wanted was my best friend and you didn't care enough about me it seems, which is on me." she said before turning back to the door. "blair please." he pleaded. she opened it and looked back at jack who stood there processing everything. "come on jack." she said holding the door for him, and he quickly took the chance.
โข
she set her coffee down on the kitchen counter and placed her hands on her hips, trying to figure out what she wanted to say. "i'm sorry i didn't respond, I'm sorry i never reached out to you or said happy birthday. i know that's on me, there's no excuse for it. i didn't find out you moved until august when we came back to for a michigan game, and my parents told us. they'd kept it from us because they didn't want to tell us over text, but in person. i realized that i had tested fate, thinking you'd be home waiting for me. and - and i guess i was heartbroken that you didn't tell me yourself. i was losing my best friend and somebody i - i had fallen for.. in one moment." he sighed as he paused, biting his lip. blair turned around at his confession, did he really just say that? he met her eye, as she processed it. "it doesn't matter anymore jack, im not that same girl. hell, i haven't been that same girl since i left. things changed pretty quickly for me freshman year, and i-i- im not meant to be in your life clearly." she said pinching her nose. "whats that supposed to mean? why arent you supposed to be in my life?" he asked, stepping towards her and invading her space. he grabbed ahold of her hands, and she pulled them back. she shook her head, looking at the floor. "im not the kind of girl you're supposed to be seen with." she said sadly, "look at me jack. i changed in more than one way when i moved...and have fought so many battles just to be standing here today. one's you can't fathom." she said shutting her eyes, "haven't you realized its always been you?" he whispered and she reopened her eyes to look up at him. "what?" she said barely coming out as a whisper. he smiled softly chuckling a bit, "you are your hardheadedness could never see how hard i was trying to get you to realize i liked you more than as a friend. i was trying so hard, the guys couldn't help but laugh at every attempt. calling me a fool knowing you'd never realize until i said something." he said shaking his head as if he couldn't believe the years he spent pining over her. "wait what?" she said looking into his eyes. "you thought i was just being nice? oh no..I'm not that nice to just anybody" he said laughing and she shook her head blushing. "you fool! you idiot!" she said slapping his chest, somewhat angry and somewhat sad. he grabbed ahold of her hands again and pulled them into his chest, "its always been you bean, i have never once stopped thinking about you, even if you did change your Instagram and slip off the face of the earth. i still never stopped, you can ask my brothers." he said inching closer to her face. she blinked twice before biting the inside of her cheek, "but I'm not right for you." she said frustratedly. he shook his head, "i like this version of you blair, don't sell yourself too short. i know i will absolutely adore you, bean. i promise you that." he said before placing his lips on hers. their lips felt as if they had kissed a million times before. she moved her hands up to his neck, desperate to be as close as possible. he wrapped his arms around her hips before moving to her lower back. they pulled apart, resting their foreheads against one another's, catching their breaths.
tears pooled both of their eyes as they looked at one another, "I've thought about doing that for years." he said cheekily and she grinned, "I've been waiting for that for years too." she hummed before reconnecting them.
โข
one last hurrah was planned to michigan before the season started and jack invited her to his and his brother's lake house near where they grew up. she had met up with the three of them the day before they planned to leave for brunch. "i-i don't know." she said leaning back in her chair. "go have fun, ill still be here when you wanna come back." joey said from beside her, "there its been decided." quinn smiled lightly clapping his hands together.
โข
jack took ahold of blair's hand as they walked through detroit airport, walking towards baggage claim. "I'm nervous." she whispered to him as they waited. he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and looked at her in the eyes, "you have no idea how much they've missed you hun. everything will be great." he said kissing her temple. she nodded, resting her head against his chest. they made it out 15 minutes later and searched for ellen and jimmy's car. once they heard that blair was coming into town, they quickly volunteered to pick them up. once ellen found luke in the crowd, she saw quinn then jack and then on the girl she had always considered her daughter. jimmy found them as well and smiled at ellen once he saw that her and jack were holding hands. "blair!" ellen smiled widely, wrapping her arms around the girl. blair was transported back to one of the first hugs she had received from the queen herself and melted. "i've missed you so much babygirl!" she whispered before pulling back to inspect the 5'2 girl. "don't hound her." jimmy joked, and blair smiled before hugging him. jimmy had also considered the young girl their daughter, a testament to the amount of time she spent over at the house. blair stepped back, right to jacks side as they all put the luggage in the back. luke hopped in first, with quinn in the back and then jack and her sat in the middle seats. they drove towards the lakehouse.
โข
jack gave a tour to blair, and she could only imagine how much fun the three had here during the offseason. it was definitely a bachelors pad, with the amount of boyish and frat items they possessed. "this is your room." jack said opening the guest room door and she saw her luggage. she nodded softly before thanking him. "its late i should start getting ready for bed." she said and he nodded before walking out. she sat on the bed placing her head in her hands. she took in the very clean and crisp guestroom, knowing full well ellen had her hand in here at some point. blair quickly got ready for bed, and then tossed and turned for two hours not being able to fall asleep. especially knowing jack was down the hall, mere feet away from her. the summer after they moved to canton, her and his family went out to new hampshire and spent a month out there living with them. and there were many nights the two fell asleep in each others arms, one or the other not wanting to go back to their bed after talking for hours. jack down the hall was tossing and turning as well, thinking about the same thing. he was about to get up when he heard a soft knock at his door, before it opened. he heard the familiar soft feet of blairs. she had an oversized trojan t-shirt draping over her small frame, as she finally came into view. the moonlight cascading into the bedroom windows, allowing him to see all of her. "i couldn't sleep." she said and he got up, "me neither." he now stood in front of her, and she could feel the familiar warmth of him as he did so. the familiar chest of the hockey player, directly in her eyesight. "i had a feeling you'd be up, bean." he hummed smirking and she rolled her eyes. "what can i say, i missed my twin." she mused looking up at him. "its a good thing i missed you too." he said pulling her in by the cheeks and kissing her. they moved in sync towards the bed, molten with newfound freedom and feelings.
she sat back on the edge of the bed, jack coming in between her legs and then moving her further into the bed. they parted for a brief second, "are you sure?" he questioned and she nodded before she reconnected the two's lips. jack wasted no time in taking her shirt off and then her shorts, but slowly took her all in as if they'd never be in this situation again. "you are a fuckin goddess." he spoke into her neck, planting a few kisses down it. her back arched softly, wanting more of him. she pressed a kiss into his lips as things progressed into more.
โข
the two laid in each other's arms, the sun now rising. jack had spent time whispering sweet nothings and sweet words that made her heart swell, for the past two hours. they also spent time talking about what they had missed in the past few years, and talked about their future and what they wanted to do. together and separately. she now had her head on his chest, and was looking up at him. "i want you to come to jersey, i don't care if its fast or careless but i cant go anymore without you. i don't think my heart could handle it." he said softly and she smiled. "thankfully i planned on heading out there." she grinned now, as he smiled. he placed a kiss on her lips once more, entangling once again.

DATING WITH JACK
parings: jack hughes x girlfriend!reader
summary: how I think it would be to date jack
authors note: I'm going to start writing about hockey, so if you have any requests, feel free to send them.
โฉ. . . masterlist !
You and Jack met at a local coffee shop in New Jersey. You didn't really follow hockey, so you had no idea who he was. He noticed you and tried to hide, thinking you might be a fan, but you just thought he was being shy.
When he finally mustered the courage to strike up a conversation, you didn't recognize him, and we had an awkward exchange about our favorite coffee flavors. Jack was pleasantly surprised that you wasn't starstruck.
Our first date was at a local art gallery, as you was more into art than sports. Jack, wanting to impress you, did some quick research on famous artists, which led to some amusing mispronunciations of artists' names.
Jack and you tried to keep our relationship low-key, given his status as a professional athlete. We enjoyed quiet evenings at home and occasionally attended games where you'd pretend to be just another fan.
Jack becomes your personal hockey tutor, explaining the rules and strategies. You start to attend games regularly, and your interest in the sport grows.
You and Jack enjoy watching movies and cooking together on your off days. He's a huge fan of your homemade dishes.
You support Jack in his career, even if it means traveling for away games. You become a true Devils fan and proudly wear his jersey in the stands.
He teaches you the basics of ice skating, and you share cute moments on the rink, occasionally falling but always laughing.
On off-days, you both enjoy exploring the beautiful parks and beaches along the Jersey Shore.
Jack's teammates adore you, and you've become a regular at team gatherings, where you've made friends in the hockey world.
You've introduced Jack to some of your favorite non-hockey hobbies, like hiking, cooking, and binge-watching TV series.
He's always there to comfort you after a tough day, and you support him through the highs and lows of his hockey career.
You two have a playful rivalry in mini-hockey games at home, and Jack swears you have a hidden talent for slapshots.
Date nights often involve watching classic hockey games together or attending charity events to give back to the community.
You've traveled together to see other NHL arenas, making it a goal to visit every one over the years.
