Umbra by Malcolm Sutherland

Absolutely love this short animation by Malcolm Sutherland. Its hauntingly beautiful, and i absolutely love the concept, and the simple line art illustrations. Malcolm Sutherland is an animator / illustrator originally from Calgary, Alberta. He studied printmaking at the Alberta College of Art and Design before moving to Montreal in 2002 to direct a short animated film at the National Film Board of Canada.

He has a lot of other work on his vimeo page, I absolutely dig the Japan animation sketches done on a tablet pc while he was travelling in japan. Exquisite.

Headspace

The students, from the University of Melbourne, were tasked to “take ideas from within their heads and place them, literally, on the outside […] by building a complex form made from paper and can be worn on the head.” Headwear was chosen as a design topic because it gives students an opportunity to design in reference to their own personae and produce visually interesting outcomes that can be manufactured and tested in context. The course coordinator was Stanislav Roudavski.
