it is my personal headcannon that Todoroki as a pro hero genuinely has no clue what merch he has out there and all of it is slightly cheesy and tasteless because he does not pay the slightest attention to what sort of stuff he approves. Midoriya (who has made it his personal mission to collect every single piece of Hero Shouto merch for this express reason) will be wearing some sort of ugly fire-and-ice themed graphic tee or something and Todoroki will be like “what is that disgustingly tacky thing” and Midoriya will be like “dude it’s literally your official merch”. Like, you canNOT tell me that man takes any interest in anything to do with designing his own merch. He will say yes before even looking at the ideas just to avoid having to get involved in the process at all. Generally the interactions between him and the people who actually DO design his merch go a little like:

merch guy: hey boss I had this idea for a-

Todoroki: go ahead.

merch guy: but I haven’t even-

Todoroki: it’s fine I’m sure whatever it is is fine everything’s fine I’d like to go back to work now.

and then 1 month later:

Todoroki: Izuku. what, when, where, and wHY????

Midoriya: well, i think the ‘what’ is pretty obvious, it’s a three foot tall chibi plush of one of my absolute favorite heroes, pro hero Shouto. Have you heard of him? He’s great. Anyway, ‘when’ and ‘where’ are three weeks ago when I preordered it on your online store, and as for ‘why’. Well.

*squeezes the plushie extremely enthusiastically*

(This somehow turned from my socially-awkward-Todoroki post into a Tododeku post but honestly I’m not mad b/c tddk my beloved they could never make me hate you. Was that a meme I just used? I think that was a meme. And I’m like 80% sure it was applicable to this. Why am I more out of touch with pop culture on the internet than most adults here? At least, that’s the impression I get. It’s really disorienting when I see the artists I follow who’ve mentioned being like married and doing adult things and stuff are more informed about the latest whathaveyou on the internet than I, a high schooler lol. I feel like when it was first explained to me at the tender age of 14 that I don’t need to use full sentences with proper grammar / punctuation / capitalization / spelling when texting. I used to text the way iida speaks. That or I’d say things like howdedoody my good fellows because idk I was strange and I continue to be strange but in a slightly less off putting way…hopefully. Anyway I’m rambling again. I sincerely hope that I’m not entirely incomprehensible, but, failing that, just know that this entire section in parentheses has no real relevance or importance to the post. Um. Bye.)

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
