We are incredibly complex beings made up of roughly 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms. Each of these atoms is each made up of an incredibly small nucleus and even smaller electrons that orbit around the nucleus. The interesting part is that scientists discovered that electrons do not orbit the centre of an atom like planets around the sun. Instead, think of electrons like a swarm of bees or birds, where the individual motions are too fast to track, but you still see the shape of the overall swarm. In fact, electrons dance. But it’s not random dancing – it’s more like ballroom dancing, where they move in set patterns. These patterns can vary – some are slow and gentle, like a waltz whereas some are fast and energetic, like a Charleston. Each electron keeps to the same pattern, but once in a while it may change to another, as long as no other electron is doing that pattern already. No two electrons in an atom can do the same step: this rule is called the Exclusion Principle. I found in this study an interesting analogy to the way we’re supposed to conduct our lives. It’s inspiring to realize that each one of us is a very unique individual made of free atoms, breathing free atoms, touching free atoms, watching and smelling free atoms, moved by a perpetual dance of energies all around and within it. Very few people understand the importance of the journey as opposed to reaching the destination… So that people get discouraged, they sabotage themselves with trivial thoughts, they underestimate themselves and overestimate everything else. We see it every day around us, with relatives and friends. And often the victims are ourselves. It happens to everyone, but the important thing is to realize it at some point in our path. Take as an example the typical holiday. Often the excitement of the night before departure and the plane ride are clearly more thrilling than the moment you arrive at destination. The same is applicable to our life journey. Only we tend to “girare le carte in tavola”, shift one's ground (the italian expression sounds more effective to me). So we feel trapped in a loop that never ends, where time never seems to be enough and the destination keep getting further away. The journey is no longer so fun and so we hide, we get bored, we get older and we forget. Then, if just for a moment, we stop and reflect: to clarify things, to remember ourself, our dusty dreams, the innate courage we had as a child and of the few expectations if not to enjoy the very moment. Here is that everything around us resumes color, life becomes more like a game to play than a struggle to fight, breath gets longer, mind gets calmer and the destination gets clearer. At one point, we can sit back again and return to enjoy the journey... . . One of the most amazing walking tracks and breathtaking views I ever had in the Albany Region of the Flinders Peninsula. Easy to not forget these moments. We often tend to take for granted circumstances that fundamentally built strength and audacity, and which indelibly forged a new us.
