Hi, love your Son's of Berk AU!

I have several questions, firstly, how would the events with toothless from him being shoot down to having a bond with Hiccup go? Like what changes or things to take in, especially since I see Dagur going with Hiccup when he goes looking for the downed night fury. Or like Dagur too shoots a dragon down the same night as Hiccup did toothless, maybe?

I just can't help but think that Dagur should also have a dragon that he bonds with, so that he too alongside Hiccup bonds and learns that dragons aren't beasts. Maybe have Dagur dragon that he bonds with be a skrill?

I never really saw the night fury being an "unholy offspring of both lightning and death", I see it more towards being seen as a bringer of death yet never with lightning, so maybe with it being a night fury for Hiccup and a Skrill for Dagur would work. Just my line of thinking.

Secondly, how do you see things going differently for the events of the first movie overall?

Would Hiccup still lose his foot from the end fight with the Red Death, would it be Dagur in this AU, or would both lose a limb?

Oh my goodness thank you for the ask!! I’m so glad you like the au and I really appreciate your ideas and lines of thought!! Allow me to yap for a moment -

So I’m the events of Hiccup shooting Toothless down, not much changes. Nobody believes that Hiccup truly did shoot a night fury down as in the movie it’s referenced/implied that this is not the first time Hiccup has made this type of claim. Dagur doesn’t believe him either since he’s trying to “fit in” which is pretty much pointless since everyone has already labeled him as the “weird and unstable kid”. Although, Dagur does note the amount of desperation in Hiccup’s mannerisms as he tries to get Stoick to listen to him and believe him. In this au, previously when Hiccup had pulled this stunt and was met with the inevitability that no one would believe him, he would usually drop it. However Hiccup doesn’t drop it and starts disappearing (looking for the night fury and then befriending toothless). Side note, Hiccup doesn’t tell anyone (including Dagur) that’s what he’s doing. But Dagur assumes that Hiccup is looking for the dragon he supposedly shot down in efforts to try and prove himself as more than (in the bluntest of terms) just the runt of the litter and a disappointment, granted Dagur probably doesn’t think about it THAT deeply probably just assuming Hiccup wants to prove himself.

Eventually, whether out of curiosity or pure boredom (since Stoick took all the ships and left to go search for the dragon’s nest but decided to leave Dagur behind which he is definitely salty about) Dagur will follow Hiccup to figure out what he’s up to which will lead to some wonderful conflict

Not quite sure about giving Dagur a dragon (yet) but I do want to give that guy his skrill. Also I loved your thoughts with the unholy offspring of lighting and death being more of a duo title for Hiccup/Dagur and Toothless/The Skrill, rather than just a title for the night fury. Honestly such a cool idea and I love it! If it’s alright I would totally take inspiration from that because that’s so cool

As for the end, Hiccup will still lose his foot but the events that led to it will be different. I’m not sure if Dagur will lose a limb but he won’t get out of that battle unscathed.

Helloooooo I think your Sons of Berk AU is pretty cool! I wanted to ask though, how does Heather fit into all this (if she exists at all)? Is she still Dagur's (and of course in this AU, Hiccup's) sister? Or do they have no such relation?

Thank you!! I’m glad you’ve asked because I actually have an answer to this! Heather does exist in this au! She sort of takes the place of cannon!dagur. She is still the daughter of Osvald the Agreeable and is lined up to be the next Berserker chief. (So she isn’t Dagur’s or Hiccup’s sister in this au)

In this au she does in fact claim the title Heather the Unhinged. She definitely isn’t as deranged as cannon!dagur is, but she is very clever and somewhat manipulative (definitely knows how to get her way). I figure that could lead to some interesting hijinx in the future

I’m not sure exactly if shes going to be a “good guy” in this au, probably more of an antagonist. But i’m not sure yet!

Part 2

Hiccup is pretty much the same as cannon!hiccup, but probably a bit more sarcastic (if at all possible), mostly as a defense mechanism to deal with added teasing from Dagur. He is incredibly accident prone. Hiccup is definitely pushed a lot more towards fighting dragons(more so by Dagur), but still has terrible luck with it. However, Stoick slightly less rigid about dragon fighting since he also has Dagur to kind of carry that. But, Hiccup still tries his best to keep up with his older brother (to no avail)

Stoick is a lot more stressed all the time because in this AU he has not one, but TWO troublemaking sons. Dagur makes the trouble, and Hiccup just seems to find trouble. Mans is actively graying. In addition to keeping his two danger-magnet-sons alive, he’s also constantly under pressure and scrutiny from the village. Lots of members of the council wonder how in the world Dagur is going to lead them as their future chief and no one knows what to do about Hiccup. There’s a lot of rumors about Stoick just being a bad father since both his sons are so “odd”. Plus the dragon attacks don’t really help with stress. So Stoick is a little more testy. In addition, he’s actually a bit more protective of Hiccup since he’s the youngest and smallest and one of last pieces he has left of his wife. Stoick and Dagur butt heads since they both have their own way of doing things and Hiccup either stays out of it or adds fuel to the fire with his sarcastic quips.

Part 1

I don’t know if I’ve been cooking or not. But I’m gonna pretend I’ve been cooking so hear me out. Okay so like y’know how Dagur calls Hiccup his brother? What if they actually were. What if Dagur was actually Stoick’s firstborn son? I mean they both have ginger hair and green eyes so…

In this AU, Dagur is Stoick’s firstborn son and Hiccup is his youngest son. Dagur is still deranged but slightly less so (but he was present when Cloudjumper snatched Valka and carried her away so that kinda messed him up as a three(ish) year old so yk still a bit deranged). The AU still follows the main premise of cannon!httyd1 but like I’m mostly thinking of PRE-httyd1 right now.

Dagur is probably one of Berk’s best sailors (still the king of armadas if you will). But because of his somewhat unhinged behavior still isn’t exactly welcomed or at all encouraged by the people of Berk, and he generally has a not so great reputation for being…you guessed it, deranged. Pretty much a danger magnet since he causes a lot of problems. And needless to say, this doesn’t reflect well on Stoick. He still loves to torment Hiccup and will absolutely drag him into his troublemaking and put him in needless danger (even accidentally) however he will also drag him out of trouble as well.
