i somehow didnt notice this on my first several viewings but in ep. 7 after ray and rudy get into the fight, rudy calls out for ray as he's walking away 🥺

the whole scene is obviously trying to convey just how broken down the men are by this point. but there's something to the fact that this happens between two guys who have never been in conflict, and actually seem to have some kind of a bond, mostly due to ray's fascination with rudy. basically rudy is an easy target for ray to release his frustration on because he has a big gay crush on him and doesn't know what to do about it.

"we all think he's hot" yet you are the only one who says so, ray ray...his fascination manifests in like, casual homophobia, mixed with genuine affection. like the scene where they're drinking coffee rudy made, ray calls him fruity again but then stares in total jealousy when rudy shaves pappy and talks about getting him some lotion for his chafing, lol

and of course, just trying to cheer him up, by being his annoying (affectionate) self

so finally when they're playing the game and they're all just torn the fuck up about what they've seen they're trying to be normal, ray starts as his normal self with the Comments towards rudy

and after rudy tackles ray hard and he doesnt like it and he goes after him, ray says:

which is interesting bc up to this point he's called him gay and tried to make him seem effeminate, but really rudy is bigger and stronger than ray, reminding him of his own insecurities and also, again, the big gay crush he has on him. his whole Existence just seems to be too much for ray to handle.

my personal headcanon is that they make up, during which rudy hugs ray and it makes his brain explode but nothing ever happens between them and ray just thinks about it when he jerks off for the rest of time<3
