Idk Coriolanus's possessive thoughts about Lucy Gray just don't feel right to me? This book is lots of fun, though it feels a bit cheesy at times, but the one thing that keeps sticking with me is that I'm just not impressed with how SC is presenting CSnow's possessiveness. She's been really good at subtly and naturally showing us so many of his other traits and establishing his character, but I feel like the possessiveness is jarring somehow, like big globs of paint on an otherwise finely detailed painting. Like she is telling when she should be showing. I will have to think about this more, but for a character who is really well-developped and interesting, whose motivations are clear and understandable and yet whose goals and actions are often alarming and manipulative, that his desire to own and keep and possess Lucy Gray are not handled with the same finesse. It feels heavy handed and clunky to me. Idk.
#tbosas#the hunger games#it feels like shes trying to force him into becoming the villain rather than letting it happen naturally#adding in extra red flags where they maybe arent needed and dont fit well

Visenyaism I've started engaging in fandom spaces and I'm losing my shit daily at how fans will shrug off the murder or potential murder of CHILDREN.
The three wee Lannisterlings, Daenerys and Viserys, Rhaenys and Aegon, Daenerys' baby... GRRM spelled it out for them that killing children is NEVER OK for any reason, especially political gain, and yet I still have to fight off demons who think it would be fine for the good of the realm. Am I talking with Tywin Lannister on discord or something???
This is always easier said than done but. Other people being wrong or having bad opinions in fandom space does not have to be your problem unless you make it your problem. You don’t have to engage with everyone. Post what you want. Block. Keep it moving. Curate your space.
I think arguing about whether or not something like murdering children is good is not a great use of your time and energy. Obviously it’s bad like one of the worst things a human being can do. The books are also clear about this. But it’s much more interesting to examine the ways in which the characters complicit in that kind of violence justify it to themselves.
Why would you keep yourself at the “is killing children good debate” level when you have the reading comprehension necessary to choose to move yourself to the “what does it say about westeros that the entire sociopolitical system hinges on child hostages, child weddings, and child murders” level. You can leave the room and go to the honors class it’s down the hall. Open the door and walk out
#This is an extremely important point in fandom always#and in life#the question you must always ask yourself is#do I want to be Right or do I want to be happy#you will give up a lot of happiness in your life by zealously pursuing always being Right about Issues#and by Right I don't mean#having good opinions#or finding the truth#or improving yourself#I mean winning arguments and 'Educating People' and needing to be SEEN to be Right#by letting go and moving on#you will be happier#and by moving on to spaces where you can actually accomplish something rather than argue with idiots means you can do more good#I mean yeah just don't argue with people on the internet#as soon as it's an argument and not a discussion you have already lost#fandom things

Car Trunk vs Car Boot: A clear win for US English, trunk was already a thing in which you stored items, frequently for transport.
Crisps vs Chips: I gotta admit, the Brits have this one. They're thin slices of potato that have been made crispy. No chipping of any materials involved.
Car Park vs Parking Lot: Equally matched. What's a car park? A place to park cars. What's a parking lot? An otherwise empty lot where you can park.
Elevator vs Lift: Both equally fail to address that the damn thing also goes down.

Finally reading TBoSaS! 8 chaps in and so far no, it is not as strong as the original trio BUT SC's early and quiet establishment of Snow as someone who lives in his memories and does not--cannot--forget, is very well done. As a villain origin story, so far it is doing an amazing job of creating an understanding of why Snow is the way he is without making excuses for the person he turns himself into by the time we meet him in THG (or SoTR).
Also the worldbuilding is very enjoyable, which was something that was lacking in SoTR, in my opinion.
#not sure how i feel about Tigris as his beloved cousin#im waiting to form an opinion on that until i see how it ends up being used#for now it feels cheap#like Haymitch being buds with papa Everdeen and Hawthorne just to have them appear#without their presence being meaningful to the story#also the idea that the first kill was of a capitol girl BY a chatty butcher's girl from Ten#rip#not sure i will incorporate this into IMKM#knowing what we know of Snow and his obsession with seeing people in his present day as replicas of people from his past#it could be fun#but i might continue to ignore the prequels in my own worldbuiling#i was here first after all#the hunger games#tbosas

I do think that Peeta has very complicated feelings towards Cato and Caerwyn. Specifically, Caerwyn.
Given his relationship with Katniss pre and post Games, he is definitely one of the few who saw right through her.
And he feels conflicted. Caerwyn is an indirect reminder that it wasn’t happily ever after with Katniss.
Also, do you have a specific reason why you chose Paris?
Hello anon! It has been a while since I gave some real thought to the Peeta-Caerwyn relationship, so thank you so much for giving me a welcome reason to do so🩶
In short: I totally agree. Peeta's thoughts on Caerwyn are many, and various, and likely changing day-by-day.
In long: I feel like especially because Katniss is so focused on her duties as Prim's mentor that she isn't paying as much attention to some of the other details of the Quell, and as a good partner and husband, Peeta has taken it upon himself to watch her back and keep his ear to the ground. He's the one paying attention to the competition and the intricacies of the Quell. So it's probably Peeta who immediately figures out Snow's angle, and from there, Caerwyn's, and he is probably BITTERLY aware of the irony of the whole situation.
So to say his feelings are "complicated" is the tip of the iceberg. He probably respects her, in a sense, for figuring out what she needed to do to win and for going for it. On the other hand, as someone who was on the receiving end of a fake romance plot, I doubt he thinks that it's a good idea, both because of heartache and potential political catastrophe. Then again, it did work to keep him and Katniss alive, so it's not that her plan is stupid... but it's the whole reason he and Katniss are in this mess--forced into a marriage they weren't ready for, announcing a pregnancy (???) to the world, trying to keep Katniss's sister alive when that will almost certainly not be possible, and half-heartedly trying to stave off the revolution that they inadvertently started--is because of their fake-romance plot. Peeta (rightfully) thinks that Caer has no idea what she has signed herself up for. Interestingly, Caer is more like Katniss in this way; she's so focused on survival that she doesn't see the long-term repercussions of her actions, but as an outsider, Peeta certainly can. I am not sure he will see that similarity between our two wee gals though, overshadowed as it may be by the similarity of "she is trying to fool her blond buddy into a fake romance plot whether he likes it or not" which is much more personal to him.
I am also not sure how Peeta sees Cato's role in all of this. His impression would likely have changed (along with almost everyone's) when C2 entered the arena and the chummy, flirty banter from the interviews turned into sniping and bitching, kicking each other down flights of stairs, threatening to let the other drown, etc. Even if Peeta thought Cato was in on the plot during the pre-Games, I doubt he's feeling the same way now, when Cato is being... well, the way he is. The more Cato tries to take charge of the situation in his Career way, the more it is going to seem to Peeta (who knows what Caerwyn is up to, sort of) that Caer is trying to manipulate him into catching feelings so that her plan can succeed, rather than (as we know) that she is trying to get the big Career to remember the plan they made together.
Peeta might feel less icky about the situation if he know Cato was a willing participant in that plan, but I doubt he would think it's any better of an idea, as he has the benefit of hindsight and knowing all the carnage a plan like this can create. Still, I like to think that all this gets him thinking about what would have happened if he and Katniss had put their heads together pre-arena in 74 and decided to stage a fake romance from the get-go. Even more, what if they had been reaped for the Quell instead, and had been allowed to win together without needing to break any of the rules? I bet the what-ifs keep Peeta up at night, wondering if things would have gone better, or worse, or if somehow it all would have happened anyway.
I'm not going to answer these questions, because in many ways they are the questions that inspired C2's relationship (as I sometimes describe it, they are inside-out Everlark). Suffice it to say: I am really excited to get to develop their relationship more in coming chapters, because there are still so many layers of devotion and deception that have to be laid down. It won't be over until neither of them know up from down, and that's just the way we like it!
Finally, as for Paris... I literally do not fucking remember. I remember posting that chapter originally (9 years ago or something... yikes) and being excited to see what people thought, and I have since been pleased by a number of positive comments about the arena. I mean, I have always loved Paris, and I started writing this fic around when I watched Les Mis for the first time (an extremely formative experience for me) so that was likely involved? But unfortunately, dear anon, I simply do not remember.
Instead of an answer, I offer you these pictures I took when I was in Paris in 2023 and deliberately trying to do an IMKM tour. Featured are 133 rue de la pompe, the red cache, l'Arc, ducks in the big bath fountain in the Jardin des Tuileries, and Notre-Dame (as a bonus, and a preview of things to come.,,)

THANKS FOR THE ASK 😘

btw the katy perry/bezos' girlfriend/other four irrelevant billionaires 10 minute space stunt was not the first all female expedition no matter how much they try to market it as such. the first all female mission was in 1963 with soviet cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova, Irina Solovyova and Valentina Ponomaryova - all three of which were working class and had to pass incredibly hard exams to be chosen from 400 potential candidates. just in case we started falling for the propaganda machine again
